To buy or not to buy-applecare plan

as a first time buyer of iphone should i buy applecare for $69 as well? will it cover screen spiderwebs, as my bro did to his? please advise

No, it will not cover broken glass from dropping the phone... what it WILL do is extend the normal 1-year warranty to 2 years. That includes the battery, manufacturing defects, essentially anything that would result in Apple replacing or repairing your phone within the first year would be covered for the additional year. I get AppleCare on pretty much every Apple product I get- on the rare occasion that I've had to use it, it's more than paid for itself.

  • How can I actually reach someone on the phone to prove that I have an Applecare plan? I am tired of being on hold for hours and waiting for calls that do not come.

    Case number: 28****598
Last year, I had problems with my phone and they said I did not ahve the applecare plan. I finally proved that I did; and the worker promised it was in the system. This year, I have been put on hold (once for an hour only to be told that it was not office hours by a recording), numerous times because the regular phone people cannot do anything about the Applecare plan even if I have it in my hand. I can give all the information you need. I made an appointment last night and they called in the middle of the night, wihch is perhaps my fault due to a time difference, but on the phone today I booked one appropriately for tonight and thye did not call. My phone is broken and I feel as though Apple's quality in customer service simply isn't what I would expect. This process should not be stressful or as lenghty as it is.

  • Can we buy AppleCare Protection Plan in stores?

Can we buy AppleCare Protection Plan in stores? Such as the Apple Store, Best Buy, Etc.. I am looking for the applecare for Ipod Touch.

    Hello:
I suspect you can, but why not buy it from the on-line Apple store?

  • Ok I really need help. I bought an unlocked iPhone at T-mobile and registered it at another cell phone provider. So my question is: Can I buy AppleCare Protection for my phone if my cell phone provider does not cell the iPhone?

The question is pretty self-explanatory. But I really do need an answer. I really need to know if I can buy AppleCare Protection after I purchased the iPhone outside of the Apple store??

I fyou can take your iPhone to an Apple store within 30 days (maybe less) of purchasing it, and provide tehm with proof of purchase, and let them evaluate that it is not damaged, you should be able to purchase an AppleCare+ program for it (assuming that your iPhone qualifies for AppleCare+).
I purchased my iPhone 5 at an AT&T store and then took it to an Apple store about 3 weeks later to purchase my AppleCare+ for it.  Luckily I haven't needed it yet, but so far, it is still only 49 weeks old...

  • How does the ask-to-buy notification determine which organizer's device to send it to?  I keep receiving notifications on my ipad but not my iphone.  my ipad does not have a data plan so if i'm not on wireless, i don't receive any notifications.

How does the Family Share ask-to-buy notification determine which organizer's device to send it to?  I keep receiving notifications on my iPad, but not on my iPhone.  My iPad does not have a data plan so if I'm not on wireless, I don't receive any notifications.

Did you ever receive a solution for this issue?

  • If I purchase an iPod touch from somewhere other than Apple, can I buy and put an AppleCare plan on it?

I want to purchase an iPod touch from Target, but I think that the AppleCare warranty plan is better than the one that Target offers.

So if I purchase the AppleCare plan right now to go along with my iPod, do I just go through the AppleCare registration process to get everything set up?

  • Buying Applecare after the 30days for iPad mini

I remember reading that you can only buy Applecare within the 30day window from purchase date and only if you take it to an Apple store for them to check it out before purchase. I bought my iPad mini back in March, and I decided to check the warranty just for the heck of it. What was weird was that Apple was actually offering me to buy Applecare. I clicked on the link, and I was offered $79 +tax which came to $85.52. Is this Applecare + or is it the regular Applecare? All it says on the checkout page is "AppleCare Protection Plan".

A screenshot from the U.S. online Apple Store.
I can tell you that I bought AppleCare+ when I bought my iPad 3 in March 2012 and it cost $99.00 + tax. I assume that you bought AppleCare which does not include two incidents of accidental damage.
As far as I know, there is no way at all to purchase the + package after 30 days of purchasing the device. I believe that you can purchase AppleCare within one year of the purchase of the iPad.

  • Moving overseas. Should I buy Applecare?

I plan on buying a MBP in the US, but will be moving to Egypt. Will I be able to utilize any of the benefits of the Applecare plan abroad? If I have an issue with my mac in Cairo, how would apple be able to fix my problem? Thanks

You register the AppleCare with your location and that country laws and AppleCare rules apply, not to where you purchased it.
There are Apple repair in Egypt.

My ipad mini was a gift. Am I still able to buy applecare with no receipt?

You don't really need a receipt.  The Apple system knows when the device was sold.
You can check here to find out the status of your iPAd

    Enter your iPad's serial number.
The only tihng to be aware of is the purchase date:
AppleCare+ must be purchased within 30 days of the date you bought your new iPad. If you did not purchase AppleCare+ with your iPad, you may purchase it at an Apple Retail Store. To buy AppleCare+ at an Apple Retail Store, a Specialist will first need to verify your iPad purchase date and confirm that your iPad has no pre-existing damage. Find an Apple Retail Store.

  • Can I still get the support of the first gen iPhone if I buy Applecare?

Can I still get the support of the first generation iPhone if I buy Applecare? If I can't then can it be replaced by Apple?

Sorry, but you cannot buy AppleCare after the original one year warranty on your iPhone expired. If your  phone is damaged you can purchase an exchange for a refurbished one.
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5s. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

  • Must buy protection plan for warrenty support

Sad day for a 10 year old to learn a hard lesson. 21 days ago my son, after saving his Christmas and Birthday money, made the biggest purchase in his young life. His first time at Best Buy, which he chose because it was a real store and he could talk to salespeople and touch the computers. He bought an Acer Chrome Book for $199.00, sadly it turns out he couldn't afford the Best Buy Protection Plan.
About 14 days later a small crack appeared in the upper left hand corner along with black spots on the screen, Where the crack is its pretty obvious that it is a default and not damaged, he was devestated. Off to Best Buy we went and we just returned shortly. My son is very dissapointed, I am furious. He didn't fully understand the exchange between me and the manager, to him it was just they would not help him get it fixxed unless he paid them, As for me well I know a shakedown when I see one. We were told that we should of bought the extended warranty in the first place. but lucky for him even though it was against the rules they would sell it to him today and if he bought it they would send it out for repair if not well sorry too bad. After I questioned the manager if he was really sure this was how he wanted to leave it, I was told that this one time they would send it out for repair but they did not know how long it would take and he doubted they would fix it under warranty unless we bought the Best Buy Plan. Having lost all trust in them we packed up our defective laptop and headed home. On Monday I will contact Acer and resolve the chromebook issue. I will let the BBB be a neutral arbitrater in our dispute with how Best Buy supports what they sell. My son learned a lesson, Best Buy lost customers and I gained a hobby of spreading this tale to all who will listen.

Hey there, it sounds like your child did a lot of saving and got to their goal of getting something that means a lot to them! That being said to quote your last post you said " we bought it 21 days ago from BEST BUY not Acer they should of taken the unit and replaced it or sent in in for warranty repair. Instead knowing they had us at a disadvantage they took the opportunity to try to sell us a warranty, not help us solve our problem, going as far as giving us the false impression that buying an additional warantee was our only course of action" While yes you bought it from best buy, acer is the manufacturer so that is why they give a warranty on their product they distribute through retailers, so you are covered for as long as they feel you should be covered. Also from your first post you did say that the customer service rep that was assisting you said that even though it is not policy and is not something that would normally be offered (and this is true) they would sell you the protection plan and then send out for you. You also stated they told you they could send it out to the service center under the manufacturers warranty, but they would most likely not fix the issue and just either send you a quote to fix it or send it out, which from your description of what is wrong with the chromebook is also very true in what they associate/manager told you.
"Retailers need to be put on notice that they will stand behind what they sell or we as consumers will not buy from them and that outrageous behavior like what happened to me and my son today is unacceptable in the retail marketplace of 2014." This sort of situation would happen at ANY retailer you bought the chromebook from, not just Best Buy. How is it unreasonable? The product you purchased has physical damage to it. This could have been caused by any number of things. If you truly believe this is a manufacturers defect, you should definitely bring it up with acer directly (it would be best in this scenario since you said there is a crack on it, and best buys service center has strict rules to follow).
Everyone who does have issues seems to think Best buy (or whatever retailer that wont accept their return/repair under manufacturers warranty) is not standing behind their product. They do offer a 15 day return/exchange period so if you have any immediate issues you have time to take it back to them and get a working product or your money back, otherwise it needs to be brought up to the manufacturer unless the retailer can offer to service the product for you under their agreement with the manufacturer (like mbrguy stated). I know you are dealing with a frustrating situation overall and I hope a community connector can help out in some way shape or form. Good luck to you and I hope you get your child into a working chromebook!
PS: Just to note on the geek squad plans best buy offers, they are offered because they cover more than what a manufacturer covers and in most cases last longer than the manufacturers warranty. So you definitely save money in the long run, especially if your motherboard happens to stop working or if you sill anything on the unit (if you have the ADH plan, rather than just a normal part coverage plan). A motherboard alone in almost any computer to get replaced would cost almost as much as your machine cost all together! Any way enough rambling from me, good luck =)
Even though I work for best buy, my posts and thoughts are that of my own and do NOT represent best buy in ANY WAY.

  • Can you buy a plan for multiple computers?

Can you buy a plan for multiple computers? For just one price and one account?

MBAs do not have user replaceable batteries. I'm not sure you could even buy third-party replacement batteries. You may be able to purchase an Apple part through places like ifixit.com.

  • Time to send in the old MBP or just buy applecare and pray?

    Hello All,
Last week I sold my life (my 2x 1.8Ghz Powermac and 1.33 14" ibook) for a Macbook Pro. I purchased a refurbished MBP 2.0 Ghz and i was so excited, but now, I have the whine (which i fixed using QuietMBP a nice program. and I keep getting these painful shocks on my forearm while I am using it (while its plugged in). I still can return it but I dont know what to do!?! I still have over a month of school left and need a computer. Should I just sent this beast in or buy applecare and wait?

If you need a computer and cannot get hold of another one if you send the MBP in then I guess you have to hold on to your purchase in order to complete your school work.
If you feel that you can live with the workarounds to the whine then you may as well keep the machine and enjoy all the other great features that work well.
Once you keep the machine and register it with Applecare then it's more or less "yours for life" unless you try to sell it later on, though I'm not sure if these early MBPs will fetch a good price down the road if later revisions come out without these (or other major) problems (think: the hot revision A of the Powerbook 12").
So, the question really is: is your current MBP something you are either prepared to live with and enjoy for a long time or maybe take a hit on during re-sale later on? Or would you sleep better at nights having returned it, making do with a temporary machine and waiting for something better to come along?
Another thought: since nobody has officially said that the CPU whine is a recognized problem yet, it may be something that is recognized and fixed down the line, but the possibility also exists that it never will get fixed, except in the next revision of the product. So, I wouldn't count on a fix at this stage.

  • Trying to set up my account on my new computer, but CC only will let me buy new plan. How do I transfer account?

I just bought a new computer and am trying to move my CC acct over, but CC only will let me buy an additional plan, not transfer the existing plan. How do I transfer? Thank you!

    Aloha Helzo,
Not sure if it's solved or not. I did have to uninstall all my CC from the old computer before I was allowed to install on the new computer, but it still kept telling me I had to buy the programs. I'll just watch and see if I get double-billed. I should know within a couple of weeks. If I do, then I will try and resolve it through the people in the billing department. that's how I ended up having to resolve it last time I changed computers.

  • If I buy applecare now, do I get the "key" instantly?

    Hi!
If I buy applecare now, do I get the "key" instantly?

I would very seriously consider contacting the Apple store via chat; according to the web page, it says "free shipping". I don't know if that means they will send you the box. Inside the box is a piece of paper that contains the registration code. If they actually mail this, you may not get it in time. So, use the storechat feature and ask if they email the code, automatically apply it to your Mac, or mail it to you for you to register.
