To check a record for existence in dbtable before using insert

Hi Experts:
My problem is that i have defined a foreign key in the Z database table and if i create entries directly through SE11, the check executes finely, but is i use insert command through module pool, all the entries are saved and the foreign key check is not executed.
Eg I want to check the plant entry in T001w, if it is there, only then that record should be saved, otherwise error message that please check your entry,
Is there any possiblity without using internal table.
Can we read through dbtable as we can in case of internal table?
Best Regards, Neetu

You could do a select single from T001W before you Insert into your Z table to see if the entry exists.  However, if you are doing multiple inserts it is more efficient to do a single load of the T001W records into an internal table, sort it and da a read using binary search.
I think T001W is fully buffered (a lot of these type of tables are) so the select is going to be reasonably efficient.

  • Subcontracting Info record for Same Vendor which is used in Purchasing vendor

    Hi Gurus,
    When we want to create info record for both standard and sub contract  with one single vendor.,  system is not creating a separate info record.
    It is considering the same  Info record for all the options.  This triggers error -  Info record price does not match.
    Reg,
    Suresh

    Yes.. That's correct. System will just update the same info record number.. But you should not face any problem for price fetching...
    System will work properly for standard PO and subcontracting PO..
    System will compare the item category of info record and PO line item, as per this comparison, system will pick the price from info record..
    You can see in the above screen shot the value 3 indicates that it is for subcontracting PO.
    Standard PO :
    I am just changing the item category from blank to L.

  • Query for row by rows-before using seq number

    Hi,
    I have a table of CatalogAuthor records
    long : id
    varchar : author
    long : seqnum
    I have made the table so that initially, if there are 10000 unique authors, then the rows will have sequence numbers from 1 to 10000. As authors are dynamically added, they are given the sequence number of an existing row in the table, i.e. the nearest row whose author comes before the new author. As time goes there are more and more duplicates, and at a certain point, the table has all its sequence numbers reassigned to be monotonic increasing by author name order.
    We want to use this table to build a tree of about 10 nodes per parent, culminating in author names. So to expand the tree at the first level, we could divide 10000 by a suitable power of 10 to get the groups of sequence numbers. However, with duplicate seqnum, there may be 14365 rows so ideally, to overcome the problem of clumping, I would do some kind of query to identify the 1436 record in sorted order by sequence number, the 2872 record by seq number and so on.
    What query would that be? With appropriate indices, would it still be slow? Would I have to do 10 of these queries to expand one node with 10 children? Is there a better design to accomplish the same goal of exploding a balanced tree by author name sort order, culminating in a leaf of one particular author?

What will this tree structure do for you that an index on author won't do?
    I don't know of any way to automatically keep a tree balanced every time DML is done.
    You could periodically re-balance the tree; that shouldn't be too hard. Let's say you want each parent to have up to r children. Use the analytic ROW_NUMBER function to assign unique numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, ... to each row, in order by author.
    The row numbered 0 will have no parent
    For all all rows numbered n (n > 0), the parent will be the row numbered FLOOR (n/r).
    Whenever you re-configure the tree, use a MERGE statatment. An index on author will probably make generating the ROW_NUMBERs faster.
    If you need help, post CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements to show the table as it exists with the tree out of balance, and also show how you want it to look after balancing. Use a small value of r (maybe 2 or 3) to keep the sample set small.

  • Check Out Records through Workflow

    Hi
    I want to Check Out records that are added through Import Mgr untill they are reviewed and approved. However, if i enable "Check Out Records" for Start activity and select "Action on Records" as "Check In" for Stop activity - the Workflow fails to launch giving an error message "Not yet implemented".
    How do i achive this functionality?
    Regards,
    Anoop

    No way to checkin/checkout records from a non-main table.
    This would not be logical. When you check out a record from a flat table and it is used as a lookup value somewhere in the main table, so what to do with such a situation? Checkout the corresponding main table recordt? This would be rather confusing.
    In other words, it is quite a question how to handle checkin/checkout for records that are used somewhere else.
    There is no such problem for the main table records - they can never be lookup values and no record in a repository can depend on them.
    So, no way to checkout records from a flat table.

  • SU01 records for Service desk

    Hi all. We are busy implementing Service Desk to receive service requests from all SAP clients in our landscape. I am unsure on how to setup the Business Partner and SU01 records on Solution Manager for key users (those who log service requests).
    We will have 2700 key users (users that can log a service request) on various clients and our testing have shown that the service desk cannot recognise/validate the user unless they have an SU01 and Business Partner record on Solution Manager. In our scenario these users will never physically log on to Solution Manager as they do not perform any Service Desk function apart from logging requests from 3rd party SAP systems.
    I was under the impression that you only need a business partner record for these users to be validated in service desk, but that seems to be wrong.
    Is there anyone that can assure me that I do in fact need to create an SU01 record in Solution Manager for these users? If not, can you please advise as to how we can do it without an SU01 record for these users and only use Business Partner records?
    Thanks for reading.

    I don't have a working SolMan I can log into right now so the answer is general. You do not need an SU01 user for every message creator. You only need a user for message processors on the SolMan system.
    Note: There has been a problem for many years that SAP just won't fix. In order to get the list of BP's automatically from the satellite systems you have to have the auth object S_USER_GRP in the satellite system, then the users appear in the BP create screen in SolMan. They need to put that auth in one of the SolMan satellite system roles.
    Also be carful to set the right date range in the BP auto create screen so you get the full list of users.

  • Check for duplicate record in SQL database before doing INSERT

    Hey guys,
           This is part powershell app doing a SQL insert. BUt my question really relates to the SQL insert. I need to do a check of the database PRIOR to doing the insert to check for duplicate records and if it exists then that record needs
    to be overwritten. I'm not sure how to accomplish this task. My back end is a SQL 2000 Server. I'm piping the data into my insert statement from a powershell FileSystemWatcher app. In my scenario here if the file dumped into a directory starts with I it gets
    written to a SQL database otherwise it gets written to an Access Table. I know silly, but thats the environment im in. haha.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi
    Since SQL Server 2000 has been out of support, I recommend you to upgrade the SQL Server 2000 to a higher version, such as SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008.
    According to your description, you can try the following methods to check duplicate record in SQL Server.
    1. You can use
    RAISERROR to check the duplicate record, if exists then RAISERROR unless insert accordingly, code block is given below:
    IF EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM TableName AS t
    WHERE t.Column1 = @ Column1
    AND t.Column2 = @ Column2)
    BEGIN
    RAISERROR(‘Duplicate records’,18,1)
    END
    ELSE
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO TableName (Column1, Column2, Column3)
    SELECT @ Column1, @ Column2, @ Column3
    END
    2. Also you can create UNIQUE INDEX or UNIQUE CONSTRAINT on the column of a table, when you try to INSERT a value that conflicts with the INDEX/CONSTRAINT, an exception will be thrown.
    Add the unique index:
    CREATE UNIQUE INDEX Unique_Index_name ON TableName(ColumnName)
    Add the unique constraint:
    ALTER TABLE TableName
    ADD CONSTRAINT Unique_Contraint_Name
    UNIQUE (ColumnName)
    Thanks

  • Incremental records for accounting document number

    I am facing a problem where I need to get incremental upload. I have to get the Accounting document number posted for an asset. I was thinking of using ANLP-BELNR, forming the AWKEY from it, and then getting the BKPF-BELNR. This way I thought I would get incremental records, as BKPF has CPUDT and CPUTM. But my confusion is:
    1) is that date and time the time when the document was posted?
    2) this date and time differs from the date(CPUDT) and time(CPUTM) in ANEK table? Does that make any difference?
    3) Also I checked CDPOS, and for OBJECTCLAS = BELEG, adn TABNAME = BKPF, there is no entry with Changeid = 'I'. That means the new documnets posted are not being captured in CDPOS?
    Please tell me a way how can I get the incremental data?

  • How do I prevent constant clipping in voice recording for podcast

    I'm trying to record the voice track for my podcast. I used to use a PC, but am trying to learn how to do it on a Mac Mini using GarageBand. The audio quality on the PC was fine, but I'm having nothing but problems on this Mac. I'm not sure why.
    My first try resulted in audio waveforms that were tiny, about 1/10 the height of the track when you view in the audio editor. I had to boost the gain after I made the recording, using an audio editing program.
    In my second attempt at a recording, I moved the volume slider to the right very slightly and re-recorded. Now just about all of the waveforms are clipped off at the top and bottom. About 90% of my podcast had clipping.
    So, either the waveforms are way too small, or huge with clipping....just by moving the volume slider as slightly as I can. I have checked the audio input volume in System Prefs and it is around 3/4 of the way up. Then I tried controlling the volume with the slider in GarageBand. Is this wrong? Should I lower the volume in System Prefs to half way?
    I'm using an external mike. I can't figure out why the volume control is so sensitive. How am I supposed to adjust the volume? It's either way too low, or way too high. Am I doing something wrong?
    Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)
    Powerbook G4 17 1.5 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.2)
    Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)
    Powerbook G4 17 1.5 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Forget the waveform. Set the master outs on Garageband to be at 0 DB. Set the volume of the input channel to be 0 DB. Use your ears...... adjust you gain on the inpt device to that you do not see clipping in the channel meter.
    Think about a little compression.....

  • Check/uncheck record results on more than one step at a time

    I have one hundred plus sequence files and several thousand steps total. Checking and un-checking record results one step at a time takes a long time. I'd like to be able to select several steps at a time then check or un check the "Record Results" option for all those steps at once. How do I do this? I'm using TestStand 2.0

    Hi Kevin,
    Thanks for contacting National Instruments.
    Do you want to disable result recording for ALL sequences on this station? If so, you can turn on this option in the TestStand sequence editor (Configure >> Station Options, turn ON checkbox "Disable result recording for all sequences").
    However, if you only want to do this for selected sequence files, then Ray is correct - you would need to write an external routine that will automate this for you. Attached is a zipfile containing a VBScript that will iterate through one sequence file ("c:\test.seq") and change all steps (all sequences, including Main/Setup/Cleanup) to turn off "Record Results". It first saves a backup copy of the sequence file, makes the changes, then save
    s the modified sequence file. You can enhance this script to work for more than one sequence file by using Microsoft's FileSystemObject.
    The VBScript uses a DLL I created, which exposes the TestStand 2.0 Engine object as an ActiveX DLL. Before you can run the VBScript, you will need to register this DLL:
    regsvr32 TSEngine.dll
    Then, the VBScript can be executed just by double-clicking it. Hopefully this helps get you started toward creating an automated way of solving this problem!

  • WHERE ... IN ... SELECT records for a given list of PKs (or FKs)

    Hello folks,
    Many times we need to retrieve records for given lists of PKs (or FKs), as:
    p_pk_list := '11,22,33';
    We work in 10g
    A co-worker of mine had a good idea (I thought) to "help" the optimizer and build a recordset in the FROM clause and use it later in WHERE
    SELECT ...
    FROM tableName a,
    (SELECT REGEXP_SUBSTR(p_pk_list, '[^,]+',1,ROWNUM) p_pk_id
    FROM dual
    CONNECT BY ROWNUM <= LENGTH(p_pk_list ) - LENGTH(REPLACE(p_pk_list ,','))) d_pk
    WHERE
    a.ID=d_pk.p_pk_id; -- (1)
    The tragedy is that it takes 4 seconds to retrieve 5 records from the table (no other joins). The table has about 40 columns though and there are about 51000 records. With the SELECT REGEXP_SUBSTR in the WHERE clause, it's a bit worse.
    If (1) is replaced by:
    a.ID IN (11,22,33,44,55);
    the execution takes 0.04 seconds.
    My questions are:
    1. Is this a bad idea to select records for a given list of PKs or FKs? Should one just go for one PK/FK instead?
    2. Why the stiff performance penalty?
    3. Ideally, it would be nice if this would work:
    a.ID IN (p_array);
    where p_array would be an array of integers
    Any elegant sollutions?
    Thanks a lot.
    Dan

    Check the explain plan for both statements.
    I would wager that the overhead you experience is due to the fact that you are comparing apples to oranges here.
    (SELECT REGEXP_SUBSTR(p_pk_list, '[^,]+',1,ROWNUM) p_pk_id
    FROM dual
    CONNECT BY ROWNUM <= LENGTH(p_pk_list ) - LENGTH(REPLACE(p_pk_list ,','))) d_pkreturns a string.
    a.ID IN (11,22,33,44,55);Is a list of numbers.
    If you check the explain plan for the regexp version, you should see an implicit conversion being done for you (converting the number column into a string for comparison) which means you can't use any indexes defined on a.id.
    If you want to use an array of numbers here's an approach using a built in array of numbers.
    declare
       v_number_list  sys.odcinumberlist   default sys.odcinumberlist();
    begin
       v_number_list.extend;
       v_number_list(v_number_list.count) := 100;
       v_number_list.extend;
       v_number_list(v_number_list.count) := 200;
       for vals in
          select *
          from all_objects
          where object_id in
             select column_value
             from table(cast(v_number_list as sys.odcinumberlist))
       loop
          dbms_output.put_line(vals.object_name);
       end loop;
    end;
    25  /
    I_TYPED_VIEW1
    I_NTAB2
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    ME_XE?Otherwise do an explicit TO_NUMBER on the regexp query so that you can use any indexes defined on the table in question.

  • Problem in doing BDC recording for Tcode FAGLSKF

    Hi All,
    I need to make postings for Statistical key figures. For this I need to make postings using transaction FAGLSKF.
    Now my problem is that when I try to make recording for transaction FAGLSKF I could not see the values recorded for ITEM Data Table control.
    Any one having any idea as what I am missing. Your suggestions would be really helpful.
    Regards,
    Lalit

    Hi Poorna,
    Thanks a lot for the valueable feedback.
    I checked the FMs mentioned by you. These FMs make the SKF posting but these FMs do not perform any kind of validations.
    Like for example if I use tcode FAGLSKF and try to make some posting. In case I am giving some invalid input to this transaction ( e.g. wrong Statistical Key Figure Value ) , this t code does not allow us to post and immediateley thorows some error.
    Where as I use FM FAGL_FAGLSKF_PN_POST, this FM makes an entry in the table FAGLSKF_PN without any validations.
    This FM simply insert an entry to the table FAGLSKF_PN.
    Any Idea how to overcome this. I want to make the validations in the same way as done using Tcode FAGLSKF.
    Thanks a lot for your valueable inputs.
    Regards,
    Lalit
