Tomcat installation without OpenJDK

Hello archies,
please, can I install Tomcat server (no tomcat-native package) without OpenJDK? I using Oracle's JDK in my /opt directory
sudo pacman -S tomcat8
resolving dependencies...
:: There are 2 providers available for java-runtime>=7:
:: Repository extra
1) jre7-openjdk 2) jre8-openjdk
Enter a number (default=1):
I cannot choose another than 1 or 2
Some hints? Or just manual installation? Thanks

I strongly advise you against manually installing software thare are provided as packages by your distro (either in official repos – tomcat*, OpenJDK – or AUR – Oracle JDK).
To sum up (and if you insist you do not want OpenJDK), if I were you I would:
1) Remove all the JAVA_HOME, and PATH variables you mention from ~/.bashrc and ~/.xinitrc (very important)
2) Install jre8-oracle and jdk8-oracle from AUR or from my repo. As these packages provide "java-environment" now you can…
3) Install tomcat8 from extra
4) Configure tomcat8 to use Oracle JVM à la systemd:
# cp /usr/lib/systemd/system/tomcat8.service /etc/systemd/system/
# vim /etc/systemd/system/tomcat8.service
In this last line you want to change
Environment=TOMCAT_JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk
by
Environment=TOMCAT_JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle
Then start Tomcat 8 and check it is started with Oracle JVM by visiting http://localhost:8080/manager/status:
Tomcat Version JVM Version JVM Vendor OS Name OS Version OS Architecture Hostname IP Address
Apache Tomcat/8.0.11 1.8.0_20-b26 Oracle Corporation Linux 3.16.1-1-ARCH amd64 columbia 127.0.0.1

  • Create installer without labview

    Hi,
Is it possible to create an installer without LabVIEW? I am supporting Windows 2000 through 7 and the versions of NI software varies with each OS, specifically when dealing with oscilloscopes running Windows due to VISA conflicts.
The two main problems I have with creating installers with LabVIEW (Application Builder):
    1) Windows 2000 requires the Product Framework before 2.8.0. This makes it impossible for installers to run on Windows 2000 that require product installation newer than 2.8.0 which is basically every installation for Windows 7.
    2) As far as I am aware, the required software has to be installed on a local machine first before creating an installer. Then you navigate to the Additional Installers section when creating an installer to add to the installation. The location path will point to the orignal CD drive or location it was installed from on the local drive. I don't see why this required. Why can the installer be created directly from the extracted files without it being installed on machine?
    Thanks

Wow guys, thanks for two blatent insults. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all.
    A little further explaination:
Supporting and maintaining Windows 2000 in 2014, I agree, is cumbersome. However, you have to realize these oscilloscopes that run Windows 2000 in 2014 still cost upwards of $8,000 to replace and the operating system cannot be upgraded. Why do they still cost so much? Because they are very useful tools. And new ones cost $20,000 to $30,000. I don't think that this effort is "los[ing] [the company's] ability to make a profit".
For those of you that are interested in the orignal question posted here is my solution.
I used SFX Builder (http://sourceforge.net/projects/s-zipsfxbuilder/) to bundle NI's software into a single executeable file. Heres the steps:
    1) Download all necessary NI software
    2) Download SFX Builder
    3) Download 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/)
    1) Extract all NI software into a single folder and use 7-zip to compress into a .7z archive
    2) Open SFX Builder and add the .7z archive to the File tab
    3) You can easily set the path of extraction to anywhere on the computer, the temp (%temp%) is the most useful
    4) On the Tasks tab click the add/plus button and select Run Program, then enter the path where the extraction happened, here is an example
    5) Easy peasy!

  • HELP! XP ENVIRONMENT VARs and Tomcat installation

Hello people. I found out that at work we'll be switching over to Windows XP soon. But the problem is that our system administrator has disabled the ability to create/edit SYSTEM environment variables. I can't just ask him to enabled it because our IS department doesn't support JAVA :(. Previously, I had Tomcat on a Win98SE box w/o the sys admin knowledge (but don't get me wrong, I was doing work-related stuff with the tomcat server), so it wasn't an issue before. Is there a workaround to creating the JAVA_HOME, CATALINA_HOME, and PATH environment variables? What about the "User Variables"? Can I create "user variables" instead? Or can I create and run a DOS batch file that sets the necessary system environment variables for the tomcat installation? This is what I've been doing (DOS batch method) currently with the Win98 box. Sorry I have very little experience with XP, but from what I've heard, it can be very restricting depending upon on how it was setup by the system admins. Out of the box w/o sys admins, I've heard it's an ok OS.
    Anyways...any help is greatly appreciated.
...damn those system administrators :( :p

Also another question. To install the SDK1.4, do I just install it like I normally do as in a Win98 box? I thought there was a XP plug-in that needed to be downloaded and installed too some time ago? Did the plug-in later became built into the installation bundle? I read somewhere there was a legal judgement made to force Microshaft to support Java?
Sorry I've been out of the XP loop...

    Hi mansons67992701,
No purchase is required to install Flash Player.  The offer you're seeing is optional.  There should be a yellow 'Install Now' button on the bottom right of the page. Is the button not displaying?  Please post a screenshot of the page (How to post a screenshot in the forum).

  • Mavericks installer without using the App store

Where can I download a Mavericks installer without using the App store? My company has not sanctioned use the app store. I have admin rights and am allowed to upgrade myself if I am able to download a standalone version from the website. Which is what I usually do.

Of course. I should have been more specific. I meant from the Apple website. Typically, I have always downloaded standalone installers from http://support.apple.com/downloads/. However, the 10.9.1 updates you will find here require 10.9. That's my probem. I can't find a 10.9 standalone as I have been able to in the past.

  • If I download Mountain Lion on my MBP , can I use the same installer file on a different computer and continue the installation without Internet connectivity?

    Hi Folks,
I have just downloaded Mountain lion on my  Macbook Pro(haven't installed it yet) . My question is, can I copy the same downloaded Mountain Lion from the Applications on to an external hard drive and use the same on a different computer? I am having problems with internet connectivity right now, it would be amazing if it can be installed on the iMac without internet connection.
    So is that doable?
    Thanks in advance

And the 2nd installation would not require internet connectivity? Except , of course during the set up and the configuration of iCloud and location based services, which I can skip at the time

  • Running a labview installer without installing drivers

Ouch. I have to install multiple LabView programs onto the same machine and they were all compiled with different versions. I don't have the luxury of rebuilding them. When I try installing some of them, the program won't let me install because newer drivers are already installed on the machine. Is there a way of running an installer to install the program without installing the drivers?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The folder where the installer was placed into should have a bunch of folder in the "bin" folder all starting with "p". These contain the various installers that are run. The actual installer for your executable should be in there somewhere, so you could try running it directly.

    Yoav,
The SAP Business One SDK Help Center Documentation covers "packaging" your solution in very good detail.  You should review this.  In the SDK Help Center documentation, look under "Package and Deployment".  You can also search this forum and there are many posts on this subject.

Is there a way to permanently remove this adware from Firefox?

Do you see this as a Firefox extension in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions"?
If you can't uninstall an extension then this means that it is installed globally, possibly via the Windows registry.

    Dear All..
Iam having a two year old MacBookAir with MAC OS X Leopard preinstalled, But for the past few months iam getting some problems and thought of re-installing the OS. But i lost the CD provided with the Mac book.
Is there any way of installing the OS back without the CD provided with the mac book air..?
is there any URL were i can downloaded the OS for installation..?
    Please advice.

Is there any way of installing the OS back without the CD provided with the mac book air..?
Yes. Purchase a retail Mac OS X package newer than the MacBook Air, or contact Apple and order replacement original disks.
iLife isn't included with retail OS versions other than the Mac Box Set. Retail OS X packages don't contain Apple Hardware Test.
is there any URL were i can downloaded the OS for installation..?
None unless Apple has told you otherwise.

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.30 High-Availability installation without MSCS

    Hi all,
Do we have any option to install SAP NetWeaver 7.30 High-Availability System on the third-party cluster solution, except for MS Cluster Service?
I tried to install the first cluster node without MSCS configuration, however, sapinst.exe checks whether we already set up MSCS on this node, then installer aborted.
I'd like to know the way to disable this checks. (Or, way to mimic the installer as if MSCS cluster configuration was done.)
    If unavailable, I have to install MSCS first, and SAP NetWeaver, then also have to uninstall MSCS instead of out cluster software;
It seems to me no sense.
    Best regards,

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for your quick response.
It is disappointed for me that HA Installation is tightly combined with MSCS.
Do we have a way to migrate from other installation scenario to High-Availability?
For example, once we install ASCS instance as distributed system, then migrate
it for High-Availability usage, leveraged by profile updates and so on?
I'm not sure how High-Availability installation is different from other installation
scenario except for installation path and hostname to be used for connection.
    Best regards,

  • Crystal Runtime Installation without RDC

    Moved Per Request
I am a design engineer with a development company who has been asked to update work previously done by an employee no longer with the company. The problem is that we have used a crystal reports runtime install that contains RDC. This gives users the ability to edit reports and so on. We have taken a different direction and we are looking to only supply canned reports that cannot be modified. We still need to provide runtime installation for crystal, but I have not been successful in finding the correct information.
Currently we call ReportsRuntime.msi which is tied to a Data1.cab file. I am not sure if this was generated via the companies installshield or was provided and received via BO.
My best guess is that it is ours and we are using Crystal 11 runtime within it. If so I can address that, however, I simply want to make sure I either have the correct runtime install or know for sure what files I need to pull in order to have a distribution without RDC.
As of right now I believe these will be:
    CRDesignerCtrl.*
    Craxddrt.*
    Craxdrt.*
Any assistance to get me in the right direction would be appreciated.
    Leon Elzie

Leon, when you say you will be using the RDC, I assume this is an app coded in VB 6, C++, etc.(?). That being the case I think the best way to approach this is to figure out what is the exact runtime you are using and the exact version you are using. I can then recommend the correct msms and other sources of information. You will have to then build an installation package using a utility such as InstallShield, Wise, MS Visual Installer, etc.
The msi and cab you mention does not come from Crystal / BO / SAP and I am not quite sure why you can not use it...(?).
To figure out the runtime, download the Module utility from here:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006252802008E/modules.zip
    Use it as follows:
    1) Run your RDC app and process a report
    2) Start Modules
    3) Go tot he File menu, select New list -> Memory modules
    4) Save the file
    5) Expand the "By process" node and fine your app exe
    6) Click on the name exe, right side pane will get populated with the dlls loaded by the app.
    7) Go to the View menu and select details
    8) Look for craxdrt.dll, crviewer.dll and craxddrt.dll
    9) Let me know the version of each of the above and the path they are loading from.

  • Broken Tomcat installation on WinXP - JAVA_HOME error

I am new to WinXP ... but have to use it. The problem I am experiencing is due to error in setting JAVA_HOME.
I am in the process of installing a Tomcat 5.5.20 and have problems with correctly seting JAVA_HOME environmental variable.
My jre is at "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10", and this is a value I placed at JAVA_HOME=.C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10
When I am testing it running %Java_Home%\bin\java ... I am getting back the same error I am getting when I'm run startup.bat i.e., "'C:\Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command".
This must be my lack of experience with DOS/WInXP -- do I have to place quotes? is this a problem?
    Thx for help...
    pete

OK. I found the problem. I am writing this for others who may encounter the same problem while working late ... and perhaps be a bit desparate ...
YOU MUST LOAD A FULL JDK! For whatever reasons, there is(are?) JDK distributions that offer reduced functionality - no jdb.exe and so on.
I found it hard way by tracing execution of "setclasspath.bat". Without badmouthing the script, let me only say that it's diagnostic msgs are somewhat cryptic. In the first scan they indicate error in defining JAVA_HOME, however once you look why are you geting the msg, it is clearly generated on the exit when failing to validate that (in my case) jdb.exe is not available.
Given this clue, I checked (googled) for missing jdb.exe and here is a smoking gun:

  • Help! -why can't start Tomcat --Installation problem??

    I downloaded Tomcat 5.0.30.exe and installed Tomcat 5 and JDK 5 on my local computer (I also have IIS installed, and Java App Server (from J2EE); yes I have plenty of space lol);
I did this in the command line:
Set JAVA_HOME=C:\jdk1.5_03; and I also added this env variable to my user & system Path variables in System Properties dialogue (just to exclude this problem).
and I remember during the Tomcat.exe installation, the JVM was already correctly set to C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5_03\bin\client\jvm.dll (I also tried set JVM to C:\jdk1.5_03\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll and it did not seem to make any difference)
I am still not able to startup the service (don't see my admin page even though the system tray says the Tomcat is running).
Does any of the above setup seem wrong? I'm a novice in Java/JSP and just want to try developing some web service in Java/JSP instead of ASP or .NET.
I'd appreciate all your advice and help!!
    Thanks in advance!!

When I say "Startup" in the command, the original command window displays Using CATALINA_HOME: C:\apache\tomcat5, so I guess it was correctly set already ...?
By default, it is using 8080 port... If I have my IIS running, would that have conflict? IIS runs on 80. I don't think I've anything running on 8080.
