Tone measurement express vi affect the output signal?

Hi everyone, I am doing a oscilloscope to measure the input signal coming from my analog input of myRIO. I am still new to Labview and I not sure how to implement the tone measurement to measure my signal frequency, amplitude and phase. The first diagram below show the program before i haven't add the tone measurement express vi, the signal get from the waveform graph seem great. However, when i added the tone measurement express vi, the signal seem distorted and unstable. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Is it the way I implemented is wrong?
Figure 1: without tone measurement express vi
Figure 2: with tone measurement express vi

I would like you to prove the "bug" that you're describing by creating an example that shows the calculated and the expected results. By opening the code of the "Spectral Measurements" Express VI you can dig into the heart of the calculation, and there (in the "ma_FFT Power Spectrum and PS Density no State.vi") you will see that the Power Spectral Density indeed IS calculated by using the formula PSD = (Power Spectrum/(df*Noise Power BW of Window)). See the attached PSD.jpg that shows where the calculation happens.
The Power Spectral Density is supposed to be dependant of the chosen Window. Please read chapter 5 "Smoothing Windows" in the "La
bVIEW Analysis Consepts" manual.

  • How does the window selected on the spectral measurements express vi affect the output?

I'm using the spectral measurements express vi to find the power spectral density of a fairly broadband signal. I've already discovered a bug in the express vi; it doesn't divide the power spectrum by the equivalent noise bandwith for the window as it should. However, even after taking this into account by using the scaled time window vi to divide this factor out, the PSD is still changing with the window. How can I get the PSD to be constant with varying windows??

  • Tone measurements Express VI

I had installed the Sound and Vibration toolkit . When I open Tone Measurements from Tone and Distortion of Sound and Vibration,It can't initializing completely and close automatically . So I can' t  configure it , please help to solve this problem, thanks!

    Hi,
I had done with your proposal. Both of them is 2012,it's OK now.Thank you! New problem appeared,I acquired signal to analysis THD and at the same time I used "Harmonic Distrotion Analyzer.vi".The two values are different. Please see attached picture.

  • Changine the output signal on a pressure transucer

Im trying to change a pressure transducer's Output signal from 0-5V to 0-10V. Where would I find this setting under Measurement and Automation Explorer?

You can't change the range of your pressure transducer from within MAX.  That is set by whoever manufactured the pressure transducer.  If you want to change the input range of the compact Fieldpoint module that it is connected to, you can do that within MAX.  What analog fieldpoint module are you using?
Browse to the specific module you want to change within MAX.  Right click and pick Go to Device configuration.  Pick the Channel configuration tab.  There you will be able to set the input range for each channel.

  • What is the effect of output signal with the same sampling frequency but different number of samples?

    Hi,
I'm using PXI4461 for audio measurement and there is a question about analog output. I'm using the Basic Multitone vi for generating multitone signal. The sampling rate is 200k and my question is how to determine the number of samples. I used an audio analyzer to measure the distortion of the output signal with 200k and 1k points and there are no different except the update rate. What number of samples is suitable for 200k sampling rate?
    Thanks,
    Bill

The Sampling Rate determines the maximum frequency that you can see (the rate/2 according to Nyquist).
The number of samples divided by the rate determines how long you will sample. This sample time can only be determined by you. Do you need .1 seconds worth of data, or 1 second? But note that the MINIMUM frequency that you can detect is 1/(Sample Time) or the Sampling Rate/Number of Samples. So if your system has a minimum and maximum frequency specification use that as your guild.

  • Phase measured by two tone measurement have different dt

    Dear all;
I write a labview program for isolated a signal from the mixture of two signals by using a reference input. I choose to use butterworth filter and apply it in bandpass mode. To determine the band width of the filter, I also use two tone measurement vi to detect the phase of the reference signal and the signal I want to outcome. Unfortunately, when I run my program, warming with message "waveforms have different dt value" is always show. How can I fix this problem?

Well you got a bad case of the DDT's and dt's
If you get rid of those express vis and use a vi from the waveform measurments pallette you won't get fooled by that dt that does not exist coming out of your filter
Of course you COULD use the Digital IIR Filter vi off the Waveform conditioning palatte and keep your dt info but that doesnt get rid of your DDT's
    Here is one quick mod

  • Output signal has a short halt.

I developed a measurement system with S&V toolkits.  I am sending a Gaussian signal to the D/A output which then goes to our loudspeaker as a white noise signal. In the meanwhile, I record two input signals to do FRF averaging analysis. I can hear the signal "cycle" every two seconds or so.
Does the input averaging operation cause the problem for the output signal in S&V Vis?
Thanks a lot for any responses

    Hello,
If I understand your application correctly, you are generating a Gaussian white noise signal which you output to a speaker.  You have a process running in parallel that inputs two sound signals and then analyzes these input signals.  If I have misunderstood you, then please correct me.
From your explanation I am not clear on the exact problem.  Is the problem that you are seeing a small pause in the output signal, which you believe may be attributed to the processing that you are doing on the inputs?  Or, is the problem that the noise output signal seems to repeat itself once every two seconds or so?
If you are concerned that the FRF analysis is interfering with your I/O, could you possibly wait until after the data collection is complete to perform the analysis, rather than doing it on the fly?  If the problem is that the output signal is repeating itself, please explain to me how you have programmed the output (perhaps you could attach a screenshot of the part of your code that does the output).
With a little more information about the problem I should be able to provide you with better answers.  Thanks!

  • What happens to the outputs when I reconfigure the 6524 card?

I have an application where I want to recongure the card throughout my program. For example I might initially want to set a single 8 bit port, so I could use Dig_Prt_Config and Dig_Out_Prt. Then I might want to output a batch of data using buffered IO so I use DIG_Block_PG_Config and DIG_Grp_Config to configure the card again. My question is what happens to the output states when I do this. If the port is then assigned to a group what happens to the outputs at that point? Do they remain unchanged until I do a Dig_Block_Out or do they all turn off? I guess I will find out when I try it, but it would save me from throwing away code if I knew now,
    Thanks,
    David

    David,
I assume you have the 6534 board. On the 6534 board, reconfiguring the port will not affect the output value. Well, as long as the direction map doesn't change. Anyway, hope that helps.

  • Output signal high at DIO lines of 7330

    Hi
I am using Labview 7.1 with Ni motion controller. I am trying to detect the output signals at the auxiliary DIOports of the card using the attached programme in the NI example finder. My board ID is 1 (thats what was allowed by the programme) and I put port 1 , to check the DIO lines of it. I checked pin 10 (port 1-bit 0) and pin 44 (port1-bit 1) using an oscilloscope. The output is high at 5volts.
I changed the DIO pin polarity switches to active low status but the output remains the same.I fiddled with the set and reset buttons of the programme, initialize the card but nothing changes.  Any idea on how to figure whats wrong?
    Thanks

    Hi
Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delay in response as I was on vacation. I tried your programme but the result remains the same. The output is always high.
Max shows the card is working properly. It also shows the board type as 63. But the programme only takes in board ID as 1. How can set the direction using MAX and save the settings?
I tried the write 1 point example programme on axis 1 ,line 1 and tested the signal on pin 44 and 42 (oscilloscope ground), and toggled the line but the output is high. But when I stopped the programme with the STOP button it gave an error message 70102 with a possible cause the setting doesn't match the line direction?
The oscilloscope ground was firmly connected to pin 43 or 42 of the board for all tests.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks

  • Changes in the RDF are not affecting the report

    Hi All,
    Greetings.
I have D2K which is working fine from a couple of years. we had encountered an error recently and we have found the cause of it in the formula column of the RDF and made changes accordingly. We are sure that the changes we made in the formula column will resolve the issue. But, the changes are affecting the output. What could be the cause for it?
The report is called from the form and the RDF is in the report server which is being called on pressing the button. We are sure with the location of the RDF file in the sever path.
We encountered the same problem with other report which is having the layout problem.
Do we need to restart the report server every time we made changes to the RDF ?
    Thanks in Advance.

  • NI9401 output signal

    Hi,
I am currently uisng the CDAQ 9178 and the NI 9401 modules to generate the output signal. Currently I am testing out using the
Generate Finite Digital Pulse Train Retriggerable.vi from the NI example finder. The main problem i am facing is the I can generate a pulse but is unable to vary the frequency on the go. Meaning to say, whatever value i set initially will be taken as the fixed value in generating the pulse frequency. May I know what are the ways to generate an digital output pulse signal that has varying frequencies? up to around 100kHz?
Hope someone could help me thanks a lot

  • Output signal distorted

I have a pretty large VI which outputs high frequency signals to control some hardware and then takes an input from that hardware for image rendering.  My problem is that whenever I activate the imaging portion of my VI, the output signals become slightly distorted.  For example, a 1Hz sawtooth output doesn't ramp up smoothly but becomes slightly staggered.  This also messes up the frequency of the signal.  Does LabVIEW have problems outputting signals properly when another portion of the VI has a lot of cpu intensive processing?
I am using the "Simulate Signal" block to create a 1 Hz sawtooth wave, 128 Hz triangle wave, and a 65,536 Hz square wave and outputting these signals through DAQAssist.

    Hi Laura,
I went ahead and changed the 65,536 Hz square wave signal as the first input, but the three signals still do not output simultaneously.  Although the signals slightly change as I vary the Samples per Buffer and Cycles per Buffer, I can't seem to get a combination that is capable of outputting these two low frequency signals with my high frequency signal.  I would either get an error message about "DAC conversion attempted before data to be converted was available," or there would be no error message but the signal output didn't match the given specifications.  Attached is the vi with the modifications.  Presently, there is no error message with the given sampling information, however there is no square wave output at all, and the sawtooth waveform only shows a partial amount of the signal.  I had to make some slight modifications to the Waveform Buffer Generation vi in order to allow me to change phase, duty cycle, and offset of my square wave.  I don't think this would have any effect on the Cont Gen Voltage Wfm vi though.  Any ideas what's going on?
    Thanks a bunch,
    Anthony

  • Gateway In problem (Wroung output signals)

    Hi,
I build a FPGA circuit to test.
The source come from a normal simulink block “Pulse Generator”.
After the signal go through the block "Gateway In", the output signal of the ""Gateway In" is wrong.
Is there some one can give me some advice ? Thank you.

The problem is your sample period on the gateway in block. It's only taking in one sample every second but your pulse is going much faster. And your simulation only runs for 0.001 seconds. So you're basically seeing the output of 1 sample.

  • Is there a possibility print settings ( scaling) to affect the size of the document?

    Dear Friends
    my question is this
is there a possibility the print settings (scaling in the print window) of a document in AI CS4 to affect the size of the document when is saved as PDF file ?
the reason i am asking is that we have a dispute with a printer
the project was designed in Illustrator CS4 and it was saved as PDF
he claims the pdf document we gave him was scaled down ( due to the scaling we used in the print window when we were printing the document for proof reading )
he says the document when it was saved as pdf it kept those print settings and it scaled down the document size
i asked around various people and all of them said thats not possible
i just want an answer from an adobe expert...
    thank you in advance

    aspyro,
the printing house that produced our leaflet claims that the artwork we gave them was at a wrong size ( slightly smaller than the intented document size) we carefully examined both illustartor files ( where the project was originally designed ) and pdf ( as it was saved as after completion ) and both of them were correct when it comes to document sizethe printing house claims that the settings we had at the print window ( lets say 50% scaling) affected the output size of the document when it was saved as pdf ( and the document size was reduced at the half)
    is this possible?
In the PDF Print dialog, there is an option, Expand small pages to paper size; it is necessary to tick that if the PDF is A5 and you wish to print as A4 or similar (you can see by switching it on and off), but it is only relevant if there is a page.
The opposite option, Shrink oversized pages to paper size, may yield a slight reduction, maybe to 99% or so, even if you seem to have the correct page size.
Did you Save As PDF or Print to PDF?
