Too Many oracle ora_p0?? processes in Solaris 10

I have a very intense update process which has about 8 SQL query - every one of them is having the HINT "NO_PARALLEL" as well as the stmt "Alter session disable dml;" before we execute the query.
Even the Index is also hinted as no parallel.
Every time this process run, i see number of ora_p??? process comes up and it never went goes down.
No when ever this happens, I am seeing lot of slowness in my transaction times. Please help and advice....

  • Too many Oracle Locks

    Hi Guys,
    We are facing this situation where in our Prod environment is getting many many Oracle Locks.
    Users are not able to perform their work smoothly and this hits hard during the month ends.
    DB Version= 10.2.0.4
    Apps Version = 11.5.10.2
    I have performed some investigation and found the below:-
    - The users perform certain operations and it is during this operation that we start getting Oracle locks frequently.
    - This issue cannot be recreated in any lower instance.
    - The sessions that are blocking are INACTIVE sessions with module 'ARXCWMAI'.
    - The sql that is run is also a select query (does not look like a problem area)
    - Trace/tkprof do not have enough information.
    - These sessions also tend to lock the table AR.AR_PAYMENT_SCHEDULES_ALL (found from v$locked_object)
    - These blocking sessions are killed and thats the temporary solution.
    Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Trith

    Pierre, How do I go forward after taking the backups of session,sql and lock tables.
    First goal should be to know what kind of lock type is blocking in your case and what is the related database object.
    To do this you need to understand how Oracle locking works, how different locks are represented in V$LOCK and how to check blocker/blocking session in V$LOCK. First step is to read relevant Concepts Guide section and try the examples and checking at the same time what is exactly in V$LOCK: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25789/consist.htm#i5704. Especiially you need to understand TM and TX lock types and to check what kind of blocking locks you have in your case.
    Other very good documentation about Oracle locking can be found in Tom Kyte Expert Oracle Database Architecture and Jonathan Lewis Oracle Core books. If you have access to My Oracle Support there are also some good notes on Oracle locking.

    I just wonder how come oracle that much of memory for each process. Is that something we can control through some system/database parameters or is that the way oracle 11g on solaris works?As you have already said, it is "virtual" memory. This is not real, "physical" memory. Solaris has a virtual memory sub-system layer in it, as do almost all other modern operating systems. Google "operating system virtual memory" to find out more on what virtual memory is and how it works.
    In terms of your question, virtual memory means that not all of a process's memory space needs to be in physical memory for it to run and execute. The process virtual memory space is broken up into equal sized pages, and only those pages currently being referenced (used) are mapped and read into physical memory pages. Thus the virtual size of a process is irrelevant to how much physical memory is being used. Look at the RSS column (ps -ely) for the physical memory used by each process - Resident Set Size.
    Furthermore, an Oracle shadow server process (oracle) uses a large segment of shared memory for the SGA. This shared memory only exists once in physical memory, and is shared amongst all the shadow server processes. But it is mapped into the address space of each process, and so appears and is counted in the virtual and physical memory of each process.
    So each reported virtual size (SZ) of each oracle process is also counting the mapped shared memory pages in each process, and so counting the same pages multiple times across all the oracle processes. You need to subtract the size of the SGA shared memory from the virtual size of each oracle process to determine the private, local memory per shadow process.
    If you want a further breakdown of the memory map of each process, look at the manual pages for pmap (man pmap), which will break it down by text, private data, zero initialized, shared and other types. By subtracting the shared size from the resident size you can get a true view of the private, local memory per oracle shadow server process.

  • Too many number of process' anybody with similar problem

    Hi,
    we are using portal 9022 on rh201. once in a while it starts creating excessive number of process' and dogs down the system. we are running infrastructure and mid tier on the same server. any body out there with similar issues. I am thinking of converting the dedicated to MTS system. anybody has any success in tuning the performance.
    Thanks,
    Vijay

    which 'processes' are they ?
    java, db writer, webcache, ohs ???
    I wouldn't turn on MTS by default without understanding exactly why you are turning it on..
    This document is for 309 but the premise of the assertions is exactly the same.
    Thx

  • Receiving the following alert thousands of time a day: Too many total in process partial IP datagrams in the system

    The signature on the alert is 1205. The attacker is 0.0.0.0 and the target is 0.0.0.0. Does anyone know what is causing this? Or how I can tune this alert out? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You may take a packet capture and verify the IP address.
    Also Modify the signature in IDM and under "Alert Frequency" change "Summay Mode" to Summarize

  • OID Working Normally But I Want to Understand "oracle SID " Processes

    I'm runninng OID as part of an Identity Mangagement 10.1.4.0.1 installation on Linux. When I look at the processes that oracle is running I see many "oracle<SID>" processes.
    I'm looking for where I can read about the different types of processes that comprise OID on Unix/Linux. I'm particularly interested in knowing how "oracle<SID>" processes are created and destroyed -- is each process synonymous with an active connection to the directory?
    Thank you for pointing me to the docs on this or telling me what you believe these "oracle<SID>" processes represent.

    Those Oracle<sid> processes are database instance processes - OID is implemented in a database (where else?).
    They should be there for the life time of your server - they should not be killed, destroyed or whatever - they can be stopped by logging into your server - after setting the proper environment variables, execute:
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    shutdown
    exit
    The shutdown can take a while - it allows all active, current sessions to do their thing. Another option is shutdown immediate, which will kill active sessions, as soon as the running transaction finishes. Both options result in a clean shutdown, leaving the database in a consistent state.
    A real killer is shutdown abort - it will simply abort all transactions, but leaves the database in an inconsistent state. Oracle will recover automatically in most cases.

  • Too many java processes.

    Hi,
    I have installed Forms & Reports Services Standalone 10.1.2.0.2 on RHEL 5 and applied the 10.1.2.3 patch to it. After the patch, the java processes continue to grow so fast that sometimes when I open a new session and try to switch to oracle user, I get a "too many processes" error.
    Apparently these java processes are from the Reports Server, however I haven't even yet configured the Reports server and am not doing anything with the reports server at the moment. Right now, I'm only configuring the Forms server.
    So, I am wondering what is going on here - why are there so many java processes and what to do about it?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Based on dependency better you can go for 3 parellel process at a time as what we are doing in our project.
    check schedule time for each your process chain which fetchs data from source system (Info Package) and re schedule them which should not execute at a time (make it max 3) and try again

  • Step by step process for taking oracle back up on solaris

    Hi
    Can you please explain me step by step process for taking oracle back up on solaris.
    as well as i don't know about RMAN . what is this how to install this. whenever i am typing the rman in solaris $ rman
    rman not found is comming please help me in this

    First of all, what's your Oracle Version?
    RMAN has changed a lot since if first appeared in Oracle 8.0. Now, if you don't have any knowledge at all of recovery manager you must first take a look at the recovery manager version corresponding to your particular oracle version so you get acquainted to the concepts.
    If you see the error 'rman not found ...' then it means you don't even have set the environment variables for your session, which is part of the install process. The PATH environment variable must include the $ORACLE_HOME/bin where the rman along many other oracle binaries are located.
    1. Check the environment variables.
    2. Specify the Oracle version
    3. You can use Enterprise Manager to easy your life, but the setup procedure is subject to the oracle version you are referring to.
    4. Take a look at the backup/recovery manual to get acquainted with rman concepts.

  • %COMMON_FIB-6-FIB_RECURSION: has too many (8) levels of recursion during process switch

    Hi,
    I often get this message in my logs;
    %COMMON_FIB-6-FIB_RECURSION:  has too many (8) levels of recursion during process switch
    Does anyone have any idea what this means? This same router has, on average, one disconnect from our GRE tunnel each day and I can't connect to it externally until the cable modem is rebooted. The log above is the only thing I've got to go on really. Everything else looks normal.
    Thanks!

    i am using weblogic 10.3 but still getting <Oct 8, 2009 3:26:35 AM EDT> <Error> <Application Poller> <BEA-149411> <I/O exception encountered java.io.FileNotFoundException: /my123Domain456/123456ServerName/servers/123456ServerName/cache/.app_poller_lastrun (Too many open files).

  • Too many objects match the primary key oracle.jbo.Key

    Hi OAF Gurus,
    Currently we are implementing R12 Upgrade , for this we have deployed all the custom OAF Application related files on to the the respective JAVA_TOP folder.
    We have a custom municipal postal application which tracks the Postal Details.
    The page runs perfectly fine without any error in 11i instance, but the same is erroring out In R12.
    In R12 it shows an error as Too many objects match the primary key oracle.jbo.Key[112010 2014-10-01]
    here 112010 is nothing but the postal code id and 2014-10-01 is the Effective Start Date
    We have a custom table as xxad_postal_codes_f  (Date Track table)which contains the postal_code_id and effective_start_date (primary key is combination of postal_code_id and effective_start_date ).
    The Table already contains a row for postal_code_id = 112010  and Effective_Start_date = Sysdate.
    Now we want to update the entry for the same postal code with the Id being same as 112010  and  Effective_Start_date as 2014-10-01 through custom PostCodeChangePG
    at the time of save we are getting an error as Too many objects match the primary key oracle.jbo.Key[112010 2014-10-01]
    The table doesn't contain any of the data mentioned ([112010 2014-10-01]) at the time of insertion, hence there should not be any duplication of primary key but still we are getting the error.
    Please let us know how can we handle this..?
    Below is the code which is getting called on Click of Save button of PostCodeChangePG
    if (pageContext.getParameter("Apply") != null)
          PCodeCoWorkerBase coWorker = getCoWorker(pageContext, webBean);
              coWorker.processApply();
    Code in PCodeCoWorkerBase
        public void processApply()
          String postalCodeId = UIHelper.getRequiredParameter(pageContext, "postalCodeId");
          Date startDate = UIHelper.getRequiredDateParameter(pageContext , "EffectiveStartDate");
         Serializable[] postalCodeData = (Serializable[]) applicationModule.invokeMethod( "insertPostalCodeMajorChange", params, paramTypes );
          finalizeTransactionAndRedirect( postalCodeData );
    Code in Application Module
      public Serializable[] insertPostalCodeMajorChange ( String postalCodeId, Date date )
        PCodeAmWorker amWorker = new PCodeAmWorker(this);
        return amWorker.insertMajorChange( postalCodeId, DateHelper.convertClientToServerDate( getOADBTransaction(), date )
    Code in PCodeAmWorker
      public Serializable[] insertMajorChange ( String postalCodeId, Date date )
        // Get the view objects we need from the application module
        OAViewObject viewObject = (OAViewObject) applicationModule.getPCodesVO();
        PCodesVORowImpl currentRow = (PCodesVORowImpl) viewObject.getCurrentRow();
        currentRow.validate();
        currentRow.setEffectiveStartDate(date);
        currentRow.setComment1(currentRow.getNewComment());
    // Create a new row based on the current row
    PCodesVORowImpl newRow = (PCodesVORowImpl) viewObject.createAndInitRow(currentRow); //This is failing out and gives the error
    // Get the new effective start date as entered by the user
    Date effectiveStartDate = currentRow.getEffectiveStartDate();
        // Calculate the previous period's effective end date
        Date previousEffectiveEndDate = DateHelper.addDays(effectiveStartDate, -1);
        // Refresh the current row (the one changed by the UI) with the data it had at the beginning of the transaction
        currentRow.refresh(Row.REFRESH_UNDO_CHANGES);
        // The current row will now represent data for the the previous period set the effective end date for the previous period
        currentRow.setEffectiveEndDate(previousEffectiveEndDate);
        // Insert the newly created row that now represents the new period
        viewObject.insertRow(newRow);
        applicationModule.apply();
        return generateResult(newRow);
    PCodesVO() is based on PostalCodeEO
    below is the code from PostalCodeEOImpl
      public void create(AttributeList attributeList)
        // NOTE: This call will set attribute values if the entity object  is created with a call to vo.createAndInitRow(..)
        super.create(attributeList);
        if (getPostalCodeId() == null)
          setPostalCodeId(getOADBTransaction().getSequenceValue("XXAD_POSTAL_CODES_S"));
        if (getEffectiveStartDate() == null)
          setEffectiveStartDate(getOADBTransaction().getCurrentDBDate());
    After diagnosing the issue we found that the error is on the code of AMworker file while creating a new row PCodesVORowImpl newRow = (PCodesVORowImpl) viewObject.createAndInitRow(currentRow);
    we tried so many things such as clearing entity cache, VO cache, validating for duplicate primary key but still not able to resolved this.
    Please advice how to insert a new row on the PCodesVORowImpl without any exception.
    Thanks,
    Pallavi

    Hi ,
    One question here , if you are udating a existing record then why you are trying to create a new row
    PCodesVORowImpl newRow = (PCodesVORowImpl) viewObject.createAndInitRow(currentRow);
    Thanks

  • Sendmail in Solaris 10 - 554 Too many connections from origin

    I recently upgraded a server from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10. One of the apps that worked fine on S9 is now having a problem. I believe I have discovered the cause, but I'm not having any luck coming up with a solution.
    The app in question queries a database for a list of e-mail addresses (all within our own domain) and then sends e-mail to each user. The messages are sent to our Barracuda firewall/spam filtering appliance, and it relays the messages on to our Exchange server.
    The problem that arose after the upgrade is that sendmail is opening too many concurrent connections to the Barracuda, and the 'Cuda is replying with "554 Too many connections from origin".
    I see that there is a sendmail configuration parameter "SingleThreadDelivery" that will only allow one connection to the Barracuda at a time. That appears to be overly restrictive, though.
    My question is this: is there a way to tell sendmail to only allow some number of concurrent connections to the 'Cuda so as not to hit this limit?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Glen,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Yes, I did look at those, but my understanding was that those parameters effect inbound connection and in our case, the problem is that we want to limit the number of outbound connections.
    As it turns out, the S10 upgrade was not the cause of this problem. At the same time that we upgraded we also added a second network interface (and IP address). Unknown to either myself or the current Barracuda admin, the old IP had been configured into the 'Cuda so that rate limits did not apply. The fix was to add the second IP, too (well actually, he decided to open it up to all of our servers' internal IPs).

  • Is there any version of Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.2.0.2  for Solaris

    Hi
    Thank you for reading my post
    Is there any version of Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.2.0.2 for Solaris X86 available or under development?
    Does any one tried the sparc version on x86?
    Thanks

    I looked there and it say there is only SPARC architecture available.
    I want to ask whether any one tried to install the sparc version on X86 or not as it is java and should run everywhere.
    Thanks.

  • Too  many parallel processes

    Hi
    I will have to build process chain to cube 0SD_C03 and the datasources are
    2LIS_12_VCITM
    2LIS_12_VCHDR
    2LIS_12_V_ITM
    2LIS_12_VDHDR
    2LIS_12_VAITM
    2LIS_12_VDITM
    2LIS_12_VADHDR
    Now the question is after providing the links between " Delete index" process and individual  loading process (Infopackages),the message I am getting in the checking view is " Too many parallel processes for chosen server " and furthe,r the suggested procedure by system is " Reduce the number of parallel processes in the chain or include sub-chains :
    How can I reduce the processes? Is there any alterante method of building this flow to avoid warning messages..
    Though these are warning messages ,what is the correct flow of building process chain for this without getting any warning messages.

    Hi,
    Based on dependency better you can go for 3 parellel process at a time as what we are doing in our project.
    check schedule time for each your process chain which fetchs data from source system (Info Package) and re schedule them which should not execute at a time (make it max 3) and try again

    Thats not the problem. However, what is the condition you have. Typically, you should be having the condition C1 AND C2 and not C1 OR C2.
    Also, provide more details like how you have implemented QB. Does your iterator hasNext returns row..?
