Too much security in Mountain Lion

I only switched to Mountain Lion last week. It seems that every time I do anything I get a pop up asking for my password. I am the only person who can access my Mac, so is there a way I can switch all this security off, or some of it.
Examples:
I start up Safari and I am asked if Safari can access my keychain.
I am frequently asked for my admin password to unlock things, for example to start up Carbon Copy Cloner.
There are too many other instances to mention, and I am tired of always being interrupted to give my password when it is TOTALLY unnecessary!!
Thanks Apple people, but can you let me know how to switch this "security" off?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
 ▹ Restart
from the menu bar.

  • HT3662 What about TOO MUCH SECURITY???

What about TOO MUCH SECURITY???  I always played the SET puzzle in the New York times, which required the Java plug in.  No problem, until I installed Mountain Lion, which I am beginning to REGRET.  After installing the new OS, the NYT game page required that I install the newest version of Java.  Now I'm completely frozen up when I try to play my puzzle.  Just the stupid Java icon, with the squares circling endlessly around the coffee cup.  It went on for an hour, and I finally gave up.  I have to restart everything before I can use the browser again.  Any suggestions??

Is playing that game worth the extreme security risk of having Java enabled in your web browser? Are you aware that Java is currently vulnerable, allowing a web site to install malware on your machine without any user interaction required? Further, that has been the case for 25 days (this time), with no fix available yet. And that's just the latest incident... Java has been involved in getting the majority of Mac malware installed over the last year.
    For more information, see:
    Java is vulnerable… Again?!

Advance warning - Mail worked fine.
I had fits with the last link I posted. At first it worked fine, then all of a sudden, it quit working. I now have iCloud - iCal syncing, but iCal is read only. Not a real big deal since you can log onto iCloud using Safari and post a new event.
I finally gave up on Address Book because it kept creating multiple contacts, which if you tried to merge or delete the multiple contacts, the contacts were deleted. It also worked at first and then stopped working as it should.

  • Too much security

Have four computers I maintain, all running 10.4.9. There seems to be too much security on a couple of them (I guess actually within the user account), but I can’t put my finger on the specific thing that’s causing this issue. Example – when a file is transferred to my computer (which is an OK one), either through file sharing, off of our server or e-mail, I can open it, alter it, save it, etc., without any problem. On the ones with the “issue,” these files cannot be used without going into Ownership and Permissions (through “Get Info”) and changing the accessibility to the user. Sometimes the files will open without going through this, but they ask for the user’s password first (and saving an altered file is still an issue). It seems like things put directly on the desktop are sometimes even more secured than when put in other places.
I have gone through the whole computer on one of these two and tried to give the user full accessibility to everything (through “Get Info”), and have run permissions repair numerous times (which actually changes some things back). This is one of the newer computers, and this user is even the first and only user ever set up on it. I’ve also checked to make sure Norton AntiVirus is set up with no more restrictions than my settings.
I’m beginning to think this “extra” security issue might also be creating problems in our (ug) Lotus Notes program for these two users. One other computer/user is fine, as I am.
Any ideas anyone? I don’t know what setting(s) I need to look for – or where, to “free up” these security issues on these two computers.
    Thanks,
    Ginny

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Text overlapping / too high in all Mountain Lion apps (10.8.2)

Hi everyone, hope someone is able to help me with this.
I recently migrated to a new Macbook Pro Retina (15", 2.6GHz, 8GB ram) from my old Macbook Pro. Everything's going great, but I'm having problems with the Mountain Lion supplied apps. Much of the text in these apps seems to have jumped up a level – I've attached a few screenshots, mostly from Calendar, to demonstrate what I mean.
I've been searching the forums and can't find anything about this (it's also quite difficult to articulate, so apologies if this has already been brought up elsewhere). This isn't stopping me working, but it's REALLY annoying – so would be great if anyone had any suggestions.
Calendar icon – see how the date is pushed up to overlap the red strip at the top.
Calendar event – see how the location info is overlapping the event name.
Calendar nav – see how the labels are pushed up and not in the middle.
Itunes search – see how the text is pushed up and not in the middle.
    Many thanks in advance...

SOLVED. I had a duplicate copy of Helvetica on my system – found in Font Book (yellow warning triangle). All fonts are now positioned correctly.
    Thanks anyway!

  • Security programs mountain lion

What is available for laptop Mtn Lion Mac Pro against malware - viruses etc?

No viruses affect osx at this time.  According to Apple - http://www.apple.com/why-mac/faq/#viruses
Is a Mac safe from PC viruses?
Yes. The OS X operating system isn’t susceptible to the thousands of viruses plaguing Windows-based computers. And although no computer connected to the Internet is completely immune to all viruses and spyware, OS X has built-in defenses designed with your safety in mind. The Mac web browser, Safari, alerts you whenever you’re downloading an application — even if it’s disguised as a picture or movie file. And Apple continually makes free security updates available for Mac owners. You can even have them download automatically.
As for malware - Free Software:ClamXav
    iAntiVirus
    FlashBack Check

  • Is it too late to mountain lion

i restored my 2011 imac to snow leopard is it too late to reinstall mountain lion?

You will need to install Lion first I belive.  I don't think you can skip ahead two versoins.  Are you sure you want the upgrade.  Lion and M. Lion are were OSX really started getting buggy and bloated.  I am about to format my older iMac and take it back to snow lepard.

  • Macbook pro 15in 2011 with mountain lion installed- dropped wifi

I am having a fit with my macbook pro - dropped wifi after sleep-  I did all the things suggested in another apple forum- my airport extreme is current with updates- renewed dhcp etc etc NOW  to be accurate my 2010 mac mini has no issue whatsoever--  this is driving me crazy-  I would have thought Apple would have fixed this by now -with the update 2 or 3 days ago but ha ha it did not-- but I can assure you that it is not a hardware issue as much as a mountain lion/ apple software issue- I have to restart my computer all the time to remain connected- can someone tell someone at apple about this- I sure am seeing a TON of people with the same problem- it is not allowing me to run smoothly-- as I had zero issues before the perfect install of mountian lion --from lion-- which my macbook came with-- I am also running Kaspersky for Mac and it is the 2013 version and today I had to restart change its proxy settings to get it to update and it was fine last week.
I am wondering if this has anything to do with the apps having to come thru the app store because a  time and moon phase widget I got when running lion from the app store is just blank now. Safari loses the ability to connect and I have to restart then all is well for an undetermined amount of time or an awake from sleep mode and its thank you apple turning my laptop into a  **** on earth- I thought I should put this out there for Apple to see.

For anybody whomay stumble across this post- it is an addendum to the originalpost
Just to be sure  it is an APPLE SOFTWARE ISSUE - ProbablySafari---I used my mac mini ( with mountain lion ) and-- it too drops wifi-- and the end  result is
SAFARI CANNOT CONNECT TO SERVER lol
the app store hangs and hangs and hangs
as it does my macbook pro -- they  BOTH have to be restarted-- then it is okay for a little while
THIS IS SO ANNOYING  ha ha-- in this instance caps does mean I am yelling lol

  • Not sure if Mavericks is worth the effort of downloading and I prefer mountain lion.  How do you make a file in Finder.

I am not sure if Mavericks is much better than Mountain Lion as an OS.  The maps part was okay but I could not view the map as shown on the apple website, there was no 3D.  How do you create a file in Finder on the MacBook Pro.?

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!!!!!!!!!!!!  YOU DID IT!  I cannot believe it!
I changed "Move To Trash" to "Move to Trash" and selected a file.  I had lost all hope, so I took a minute to prepare myself for yet another moment of deep frustration.  Then I pressed F10, and bang! the file was trashed!!!  It took me a couple minutes to actually believe what just happened.  Thank you so much!  If I could, I would "like" you as many times as I can physically hit the "Liked" button!
PS: what the heck is wrong with Apple though???  Wrong instructions, incorrect help instructions on their own site.  The chances of figuring this out before having a nervous breakdown were like one in a million (approximately, I did not actually do the math).  Last week, the keyboard and the trackpad stopped responding on my brand new macbook pro for a couple hours. I was not the only one with this problem.  Apparently, this was from a design flaw, which means it could happen again at any time.  iMovie doesn't work.  TextEdit keeps crashing all the time.  Emptying the trash can take hours.
Since 2000, I bought a PMac G4 Quicksilver, a used PMac G3 Blue, a used iBook G4, a used Pismo PBook G3, a used Graphite iMac G4, a used iMac G3 (green, 233MHz I think) and I already had more problems with this brand new macbook pro than will all the other macs combined...  For such an expensive machine, with 16GB of RAM, that's a little dissapointing, especially from Apple.  Maybe I'm just not lucky.
Anyways, thanks again!  Best moment of 2014!

  • I am unable to Download Mountain Lion for my Mac Pro.

This really *****. Now I know why I can't download Mountain Lion!!!! I have an 8 core Mac Pro at 3ghz
    Hardware Overview:

      Hardware UUID:          00000000-0000-1000-8000-0019E3F8CB92
And It is too slow to run Mountain Lion. I doubt it. This would not be the case if Apple Supported the Cores parallelism as they are suposed to do. I know this computer is faster than my MacBookPro; How about it Apple, Why not write software to support all my 8 cores and you won;t have to force me to stop using the new Apple System Software. Why can't we users be the ones to determine if our machines run too slow under Mountain Lion? I can't afford a new Mac Pro; you surely now how to hurt a User/Developer.

  • Kernel panic after Mountain Lion download?

After I downloaded Mountain Lion on my older MB Pro 17", (which was running Lion 10.7.4 previously), upon the Restart that goes with the install, I got a Kernel Panic screen, telling me to restart again, which I did, returning to the same condition. I tried a Cmd-R restart and performed Disk Repair from Disk Utilities, then re-downloaded ML, but then got the same result.
For what it's worth: Here's the Kernel ID showing on my paralyzed screen:
    Kernel UUID: A8ED611D-FB0F-3729-8392-E7A32C5E7D74
    System model name: MacBookPro5,2 (Mac-F2268EC8)
Is my build too old for the Mountain Lion install?

Disconnect all external devices besides Apple keyboard and mouse, then see what happens.
If you don't get any kernel panics, then try connecting devices one at a time and test for a few days or until you get another KP.
I just read another post which stated there were several threads listing problems with the dual GT 120 cards and Mountain Lion. So, you might search out those if it doesn't turn out to be one of the attached devices.
