Tool cost capturing and calibration of tool:

Hi, to capture tool cost, we defined tool as fhmi material type and included in bom. Accordingly it is issued to production (thru alternate unit) and tool cost is collected in production order. Now we need to do calibration also for that tool. To do calibration we need to define that tool as equipment as standard practice. What we feel that we are duplicating the data by doing that. Please advise is there any method to eliminate data duplication and to work with product costing as well as calibration. Please advise.

Generally tooling cost will be obsorbed through overhead charges for a cost center. So best way go with overhead cost for PRT. And define it as equipemt PRT.

Capture and replay

Hello!
Our application has 3 layers:
- Flash
- Java
- Oracle PL/SQL
Java layer is basically a bridge between flash and oracle. Our servlet container is the Tomcat. What I would like to do is capture all the events on java layer to replay automatically every day and make some functional tests.
There is or do you know any tool to capture and replay java events on tomcat?

JMeter can read a log file and create a script that executes the same requests as the log file mentions. Then you can add checks/assertsions. This can be used for some simple Testing.

Include Tool cost in Standard cost of material

I have a scenario where we use consumable tools in manufacturing the end product , which is 'nut'. We use roughly 80 tools in the manufacturing process. Each tool has its life. For eg. Tool A will be used to manufacture 10,000,000 nuts. The production lot size is usually 900,000 and the tool will be used for more than10 production orders.
Since the tool is being reused for various production orders, i have problems in bringing its cost. I cannot give 0.1 pc as the unit of measure for tool is per piece. If i give 1 piece, since its being reused, the cost will not be accurate and there will be huge variance.
Any ideas on how to deal with this?

is there an operation for tool usage within the production order where time confirmation happens?
And correlates the tool usage with the time confirmed?
If yes, post the tool consumption to the cost center that is a assigned to the work center that is used in this operation and in the cost center (plan) activity rate cover the tool cost overall.
Result: Each time confirmation valuated with the activity rate contains a portion of tool cost.

Is this a good design -- XI and another EAI tool in the same landscape

I am working in a project wherein the client already has an EAI tool which is based on SOA(Web Services). They are implementing SAP systems in their landscape. They now want to use SAP XI in the landscape for the purpose of integration. They want to integrate their initial EAI tool with XI and have the existing integration with NonSAP systems as it is and integrate SAP systems using XI.
Is this a good design having two EAI tools being used for integration between two systems? What are the various issues that need to be taken into account?

There are lot of points that has to be considered when evaluating the design of EAI landscape. I heard somewhere that even SAP does not recommend to scrap the existing landscape and bring in SAP XI there. I gues dual hub gateway is very common unless it is a fresh implementation becuase changing the existing landscape is re-investing the cost again for the customers.
If you ask me then SAP XI is not yet so robust to handle huge volumes in real time data integration and SAP XI can be used in between for integration to SAP system as it is a SAP system and it works excellent integrating with SAP systems.

in my company we had more or less the same situation 2 years back, a existing BizTalk solution, and whether we should introduce XI or not.
We concluded with the following; BizTalk should be used as the main integration engine between the different system landscapes and ALL external communication, and XI should be used as the integration engine for all data to/from our SAP system landscape. Depending on the integration scenario, we may use both.
BizTalk will not see any SAP systems, only web services exposed by XI or using IBM MQ depending on an async/sync integration scenario.
We believe that XI is better with integration from/to SAP, and;
- In future SAP will deliver out of box integration for the XI system (XI content) for Enterprise Services Architecture
- Several components in the NetWeaver stack are using XI for communication
We have a SAP system landscape with several 46C systems (IS/OIL, HR ...) and newer NetWeaver solutions.
I can give you a brief resume of our experiences my background is ABAP developer since 98, I have implemented a few BizTalk solutions to SAP 46C, and Im a certified XI developer and developed several XI solutions between SAP 46C/640 and BizTalk.

Overall communication between SAP systems and BizTalk depending on the integration scenario and who is the initiator:
SAP 46C to BizTalk:
There are no good mechanisms available for sending data from 46C to BizTalk, we are using HTTP_POST with XML payload. Then you must use the iXML library on the SAP side, its ok, but you will spend, in my point of view, too many hours on XML programming that can be generated automatically.
BizTalk to SAP 46C - Which SAP adapter to use for BizTalk?
We started with SAP adapter from IWay, but that adapter gave us a lot of problems on the BizTalk server (pretty complex adapter with strange behaviour, and several integration scenarios stopped working for no reason at all (unstable)).
Due to several severe problems, we switched to SAP adapter from Microsoft 1 year back in time. If I dont remember wrong, back then, the SAP adapter from Microsoft did not support parameter of type string or table types so there are/were some limitations regarding the signature of the RFC function.
The SAP adapter from Microsoft is more stable than the previous, BUT we have some hick ups with that one as well when BizTalk does very frequent calls to SAP 46C.
SAP 640 to/from BizTalk:
I assume you can use the web service functionality on the SAP side in order to send/receive data, but I dont know whether 640 support asynchronous web service.
XI *****
The communication mechanism between different SAP systems and XI are much better than with BizTalk:
SAP 46C to XI:
Configure a sender communication channel with RFC adapter; basically the XI system will be RFC server so the only thing you have to do is to create a RFC port on the 46C system pointing to the XI system. In the Abap program, you can do normal function calls with destination (RFC port) AND the RFC call will automatically be translated to XML on the XI side.
Thus, you can forget all about the iXML library and XML rendering of the payload to HTTP.
Besides, you can choose to use sRFC, tRFC or even qRFC depending on the integration scenario and whether you want guaranteed delivery.
XI to SAP 46C:
More or less same as BizTalk using a SAP adapter, but string and table types are supported.
SAP 640 to/from XI:
This is a very nice situation, every 640 has a local integration engine, so the main integration engine (XI) can send/receive XML messages both async/sync. Another advantage is using the SPROXY transaction on the 640 system, generating automatically a proxy class being able to send/receive messages based on a message interface defined in XI (outside-in programming).

BizTalk and XI are at a conceptual level identical, two integration engines with the purpose of send/receive, route and do message transformation (mapping) using adapters to different technical systems.
Microsoft has a lot of resources available and for sure, BizTalk will be a very good choice for most companies.
SAP came late with XI, but they are not trying to make the best integration engine, but good enough. And for sure, I think SAP will come with very nice XI content in time (interface mappings between message interfaces business solutions) which is beyond BizTalk.
As an ABAP programmer I just love the transport system between development, quality and production systems. We are using the CMS transport systems between our development XI, quality XI and production XI it is so nice and fast. With BizTalk you have to create a MSI file (installation file which files to include) and somehow transport the file (mail or whatever) to the quality environment for installation really tedious work compared to XI.
So we are using BizTalk 2004 and XI 3.0 and are very happy with both.

i have following query,
we are into auto component manufacturing and get tool cost amortised as part of selling price, ( Sale price is inflated till tool cost is recovered) and tool has specific life of some quantity.
We want to map as follows
Sale proceeds consists of sale price and tool cost
tool cost paid to vendors of in house is capitalised
Depreciation is @ standard rate, where as actually tools get scrapped in lesser period
my question is how to capitalise the tools and write off the same through amortisation.

Using o/h accounting you can book the cost to the Tools.
In pricing you may try condition types to amortise.

Tool cost ammortize in component price

Hi All,
We have a case where component price is Re 1 per pc. Tool Cost is Rs 5000.00 and we have to ammortize the tool cost in 5000 Pcs of supply. After completion of 5000 Pcs Goods Receipt, system should change the price to Re 1.00.
How can we proceed, there is no facility in info record where we can maintain GR Qty 5000 Rate 2.00 and after that Re 1.00.

Tool amortization cost is the cost to be distributed to the material and has to be the part of material accessible value. To do that create a condition type in your regular calculation schema this you can do by copying a frieght condition type and set the controlling functionalities of this condition type as per your business needs. In this condition type try to assign subtotal 4, 6 etc..as you wish. Now go to your tax procedure in that for Base value condition type assign a routine 362. This is the standard routine. Here you bring the value of subtotal as a addition or subtraction as per your requirement. This you could do with a help of an abaper.

1 create service order for the tool cost or create new line item as service with acct assgnment K and item cat D
2 create new condition for tool cost in schema so that it will be updated in master only(condition will be coppy of freight condition so that it can be payable different vendor also and accounting also can be done separately )

Here is my scenario. While doing a production of a Product, i want to load Tool cost on that product based on the yield.
with the help of activity i am planning to load this cost. But my problem is not a single tool using to make that product. There are 3 to 5 tools are using to make that product and the cost of that tools are not similar means suppost if i use Tool-1 then Rs.1/- per unit to be load on Prodction order, if Tool- 2 i used Rs.5/- to be loaded.like that...

I could see old data about cost of Java Card, Reader, tools etc discussed way back in feb 2006..
Does any one have recent cost data who can share here.
Like to know approximate cost that i should incur to buy Java Card, Reader, associated tools,IDE etc.
it would be nice to discuss about vendor details and cost of the product they offer.

The major factor in determining cost is quantity. The more u want, the cheaper they cost. For developer cards, manufacturers already have them "on the shelf" so there's no manufacturing cost involved. But as you move to real-world deployment, then you start getting a different cost model. Then issues of applets, card management systems, infrastructure start to affect the cost of a card. I've had a business model that made the total price of one 32k java card cost $100 due to those factors.
As far as readers go, it's different. Assuming you want desktop readers, you need to deal with issues of lost readers, PCMCIA or USB. Most deployments I've dealt with went with USB so they are portable to multiple hardware.
Assuming you mean development tools, JCOP is the king so far. For deployment tools, well that's expensive mainly because the players use a closed proprietary solution. Also, if you are doing PKI deployments, then you'll need a CA and then HSMs come into play and that just recks havoc on costing !!!!!

This is a grey area where no standard solution is available... I was able to develop couple of Z solutions, which evolved over a period of time...
The solution depends on
a. Complexity - No of products that can be made out of each mould/ dye
b. Scenario - Discrete or Rep
I will take the most easier one here i.e. 1 Product per mould & rep scenario... Any complexity more than this will be a variant of this approach
1. Create each Mould/Dye as an Asset
2. Create User defined fields in Asset Master using exit AIST00* part of Table ANLU to capture the Material you would be manufacturing from the mould, Mould life in terms of no of pieces, etc
3. Assign your PCC in the "Order" in the asset master to post the dep to it... Or assign an Internal order and later settle the IO to PCC... if your wish is to post dep based on no of pieces manufactured, then you need to use a Dep Key based on "Units of Production" method.. You will have to create one Dep Key per asset in this case...
The useful life of the mould will be maintained against dep key and actual qty produced needs to be taken from MB51 and updated against the dep key each month end.. Then run AFAB...
In case you make multiple materials from one moould, maintain all the materials in asset master... Create a WBS and post dep to it.. Create child WBS elements under this WBS, one for each product made out of the mould and allocate dep from header to child at month end... Later on, settle the WBS to PCC
In case you are in discrete scenario, you dont have much of choice.., Its practically not possible to allocate to each prod order... You will have to treat it as an overhead only

We are using WL Portal 8.1 SP4.
Here is the reason for this requirement -
A user logged-into Portal Application needs to login to Portal Admin tool to
do some admin activity. We want to provide a link in the portal application
using which the user can directly login to the Portal Admin tool without
having to enter the credentials again.
If someone has any info on how to implement this, can you please point me in
the right direction.

Hi,
When creating PP you have 2 options
PP used for compiling and PP used for Building
You create PP with all the libraries into Developing/Compiling Other DCs
And another PP with all the libraries into can be packaged into other build results (SDAs).
Once you have these 2 PP in place you add the DC as used DC.
And this should resolve the issue.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
* Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).
