Torch dropped in water

I have never dropped my Torch 9800 before in the over 2 years I have had it but when I finally did it was in the toilet.  I immediately took out battery, sim and blotted with a soft  paper towel.  Within 30 mins I immersed it in rice.  The moisture indicator on the phone itself is white.  There is a small patch on the battery that is red, but since I never noticed it before, I don't know if it is moisture indicator or what.  About 24 hrs in rice I reassembled it and it came on fine but I had in my haste put the sim in wrong. When I corrected the error and replaced the battery it did not come on.  I am eligible to upgrade, but I really don't want to if I can bring the Torch back.  It is back immersed in rice.  I have had some tell me it could take several days.  I can purchase a new battery, but if I am going to have to purchase a new phone, that seems kinda like a waste if it does not work.  I even saw on a crackberry.com forum where a RIM tech recommended the guy whose BB got sweaty to immerse the phone in alcohol for 5 seconds and then let it dry for 3 days.  I might try that as last resort, but I cannot bring myself to try it now.  Any suggestions, pep talks on being patient....that is not a virtue of mine.

Yes, I am in Canada.  In fact, I'm right in the heart of the nations's capital, Ottawa.
So do you have any backups that you've done with BlackBerry Desktop Software?  If so, you should be able to load one of them to your new phone.  Doing a device switch might not be possible if you can't connect your previous phone to BDS, as you've already suggested.
Whatever happens, keep us up to date on your progress.

  • My PowerShot SX170 was dropped in water

I have a PowerShot SX170 IS. It was dropped in water for 4-5 seconds, but it didn't go all the way under and the lens was above water. It was off, and I immediatly took it out, took the battery and sd card out. I put it in a bowl or rice for 28-30 hours. I recently took it out and put the battery (fully charged) back in and turned it on, but it wouldn't work. Is there anything at all I can do to save it?

It really does depend what water he dropped it in!
Sea is salty, salt  conducts electricity, my thinking here if it got onto the circuit board or any electrical contact it could cause a leak, a resistive leak - not a water leak.  Maybe a few 100K ohms or less, this would be enough to upset the apple cart and cause digital circuits to 'latch up'.
Salty water can eat away the protective  lacquer on the circuit boards then eat away the fine copper tracks, it would cause severe contamination to them.
Also water can ingress by capillery action.
Apart from what has been suggested to letting it dry out the only option would be to send it in for repair, then there's the question is it worth it.

  • Problems after phones dropped in water.

lately my phones dropped in water for 30 mins long, after i noticed i immediately bring that to service center for repair but after repair my phones not working properly like before.the problem is bluetooth an error comes "Unable to perform Bluetooth operation" then wifi error "System error" i also cant restore the back-up and application settings from my MMC.
what can i do now?is there any way that i can fix my phone specially my MMC for back-up?
    Nokia E52 here.
    NOKIA E52-1

Then you will slowly encounter more and more problems with your phone as the electronics corrode. The issue with the memory card is probably due to card reader or mainboard. The service centre will have to check to see which it is and replace as necessary.
Another option would be to try to restore the backup using Ovi Suite. You will need to transfer the backup from the memory card to your pc first and try it from there. This way you bypass the card reader.

  • LG Ally and One Drop of Water

My wife was using her new LG Ally phone (4 days old). She apparently had a drop of water on her finger and when she switched open the keyboard the phone went dead. We tried charging it and it came on but only had 4% charge.
We took it to a store and they said it had water damage. We thought that was crazy but after looking at the phone we realized that when you open the keypad your fingers are right over the connection of the battery to the phone. So one drop of water is all it took (crazy but true).
We let the phone sit for a day and a half while we contacted support. They basically said we were screwed (in a polite way) and that we would have to buy a new phone at full price. They did, however, tell us a canned story about dropping it in the toilet and putting it in rice to dry it out. That made me think I should try charging it again. And this time (a day and a half later) it seems to be charging normally. We didn't put it in rice (but we are talking about a drop of water) but I'll probably do that as well just to be on the safe side. Support also asked if we had the phone in the bathroom while taking a shower which makes me think that this phone (all smart phones?) is very sensitive to moisture in the air.
When we got the phone I looked into getting a cover for it. I found some plastic back covers but I didn't understand why you would want that. But after this I'm thinking that it is needed to keep water away from the battery.
Just FYI. I'd never try to use this phone on a rainy day.

Is it working OK now? Did your indicators turn pink? By the battery, where it should be red X's, it turns pink when it gets wet. If that happens, Verizon will not replace it under the manufacturer's warranty, but I believe Assurion does if you have insurance (which you can still add if it's within 30 days).
Yes, smart phones are definitely more sensitive to moisture. I don't even take mine into the bathroom with me while showering. And ever since I got caught in a rainstorm at a concert, I put my phone in a Ziploc bag if I'm in an outdoor situation where that could happen.
If it ever gets wet, immediately shut it off and pull out the battery. Place the phone and battery separately in a bag of uncooked rice for 1-2 days before even attempting to turn it on. (That's for, say, dropping it in a glass of beer ... a drop is probably OK.) I know it's hard to wait that long, but turning it on and charging are the worst things you can do. The moisture can corrode the battery and insides of the phone when the battery is connected. (Some people suggest using a hair dryer to blow out the water, but I would not do that ... the heat can ruin it, and the air can blow the water farther into the phone.)
I hope it's working and all is well! Thanks for giving others the heads-up.

  • I have an iPhone 3GS that I dropped in water. It still does everything but get service, can I back it up and transfer its data to a new iPhone 3GS? I heard something about how loading a backup from a water damaged phone could mess up the new one...

I have an iPhone 3GS that I dropped in water for a moment. After drying it and everything, it still does everything but get service. Can I back it up and transfer its data to a new iPhone 3GS? I heard something about how loading a backup from a water damaged phone could mess up the new one... is this true? I would truly appreciate the help, please let me know, thanks!

Sounds like your phone is in recovery mode.  In this case, all data on it is gone.  There's nothing to back up.

  • Does it bring any harm or damage to the iphone 4s if let say there is a drop of water drop onto the iphone 4s RECEIVER??

does it bring any harm or damage to the iphone 4s if let say there is a drop of water drop onto the iphone 4s RECEIVER??

Water and electronics are a bad combination. I've seen phones get a few drops of water on them and never work right again. Mind you, I've also seen phones (old flip phones) go through both washer and dryer and continue to work for years.
Does your phone still work? Are you experiencing any problems? If the answer to both of those questions is no, you should be okay.

You can try here.  However, I suspect a hardware problem.  It usually is.

Take it to an Apple store. They will replace it for $149. It isn't worth repairing if it got wet.

Apparently, your definition of "works perfect" is radically different from mine...
Make an appointmet at the genius bar. An out of warranty replacement will cost you $149.

  • My ipad drop in water

my ipad drop in water need help.

I doubt very much that the Apple techs will do anything other than tell Bancie that s/he needs to pay for a replacement. After an hour in the water (as stated in his/her other thread) the iPad is almost certainly damaged, and the Apple Stores will not disassemble and try to repair a water-damaged iPad, they'll just replace it for their standard charge.
Keeping the iPad from drying out it also just going to increase the chances of corrosion, so I see little benefit in taking steps to keep it wet.
    Regards.

  • Running drops of water (blood)

i'm trying to create the look of drops of water (actually blood) running slowly down a window, the way they are accumulating in size, making short abrupt random moves.
i pretty much done it, using a replicator, random motion (y axis), some gravity.
the problem now is the drops sometimes move slightly upwards.. although mostly compensated by the gravity behavior.
if i use more gravity, the drops will all in all move too rapidly, (they already are).
i also tried randomizing the gravity, but it would only apply to the whole group of drops simultaneously.
next challenge would be the x axis randomness, but that i'll figure out
