  • Qosmio X500-128, taking forever to boot also Toshiba service station error

    Hi
My toshiba qosmio x500-128 is taking forever to boot up these days, iver rolled back the system using system restore, ive stopped any unessential startup services that i know are not req at startup but the system still takes forever to boot, ive also updated to the latest BIOS etc
Another thing is that everytime i login i get the error that Toshiba Service station has stopped working...
any help would be greatly appreciated

So if I am to do a system reformat. I am no novice with computers but by no means completely efficient at everything. What is the "best-practice" when doing a system reformat?
Burn a reformat disc from the system utilities?
Is there a way to reformat that would install the latest drivers/BIOS?
I am going to have a headache with the stuff on my HDD, eg. iTunes, photos, university work don't think I have enough space on my extra HDD's to store it all then to re-transfer it all back... :(
Lets just say I'm not looking forward to doing it, and I am the one everyone goes to to do these sort of things for, I don't mind if I mess up their computers that much but this laptop is my baby :D

  • Random BSOD - Toshiba Qosmio X500 13R (Windows 7 Home Premium x64) have min

I've been having some problems with random BSODs on my laptop.
The laptop itself is fairly new, bought in March this year, really good model but refently I started having problems.
One day I closed the laptop and thinking it went into sleep mode but a few hours later when I opened it a BSOD stared me in the face, the processor part was pretty hot so I immediately restarted it to lower the temperature, but I remember that the BSOD had something about "Kernel Power" written on it.
It happend 3-4 times since then, the third time it happened I enabled minidump logging so now I also have the log from the last time it happened, can anyone take a look at it and tell me what is going on and how to fix it??
I still have a guarantee on this baby so I can get it fixed for free if it's a hardware issue, still I have some important work to do this week (already almost lost a crucial project file on this) so I want to try and fix it myself for now, until I get this project done.
    Thanks!!!

The BSOD can be caused by software of hardware issue.
You can check if new OS installation would solve this if its software issue then a fresh OS installation is the right workaround. Before starting a OS installation, backup the data ;)
But of course the issue could be related to hardware; for example high temperature.
You said that you have noticed higher temperature while happening.
So maybe the memory modules are affected by higher temperature and this leads to BSOD. In most cases clogged fans are reason for that. Check if dust and debris needs to be removed you can remove dust using compressed air spray.
But if this does not help, I would recommend checking the hardware under warranty conditions

    Hello
    Recovery installation is very simply.
    # Switch your notebook ON and press F12 several times
    # When the boot menu is shown put installations disc 1 in optical disc drive
    # In boot menu choose CD/DVD and press ENTER
    # When the Toshiba Recovery Window is shown just click on next
    # On next step Summary should be shown > confirm with next
Recovery installation should start. Just follow menu on the screen and put next installation disc when necessary. Please try this and I hope everything will be OK.

  • Qosmio X500-Q895S Fan Noise on Right

    Qosmio X500-Q895S:
The fan on the right side, above the numeric pad, is making a noise like it is hitting something soft.
Is there a way I can clean the fan or is the fan going bad?
The fan does not make the noise all the time.
The warranty ends on July 26, 2011.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Guys;
Definitely Qosmio :x505 800 series has a serious fan quality problem. Somehow TOSHIBA does not want to see this issue and keep ignoring.
All what we can do is to discuss the same issue here endlessly and helplessly? I bought my Qosmio X505 Q896 a year ago. What a surprising!! Coincidence; just after my warranty has expired then cooling fans started to make extreme rattling noise. I crossed my fingers and try to clean the fans using a canned air; offcourse didn’t work, because this is purely related to the quality of fans used on $3K gaming machine.
I sent my machine to the authorised Toshiba service. They confirmed that fan’s bearing is worn out and need to replace. I am pretty sure that all you know removing the defected fans is not a piece of cake and it should be done by a professional technician. And if you are lucky enough service centers could find the right model spare fan for your machine.
Good luck to all of you and my humble suggestion is next time never ever buy a Toshiba

  • Upgraded Qosmio X500-10T to Win 8.1: Sound drivers for 5.1 over HDMI

    Hello *brilliant* Toshiba community,
I have recently upgraded my Qosmio X500-10T from 64-bit Windows 7 to 64-bit Windows 8.1.
I have left Windows to download driver updates.
My setup: Qosmio (HDMI) => Yamaha AV receiver (HDMI) => Samsun LCD TV.
_The Problem:_ Playing a video file (in MPC-HC) with 5.1 sound only outputs 2 channel PCM.
Would it be better to install the Win 7 drivers from Toshiba even though they are older and for a different OS, or install windows 8.1 drivers from another Qosmio, or leave the Win 8.1 drivers found by Microsoft?
This driver issue is made more problematic as I don't actually know what the technical hardware components are in the machine so its not as though I can find a win 8 driver for them.
As always any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Buzz

    Hi
From my knowledge the Win 7 drivers are totally different from Win 8.1 drivers and I doubt that Win 7 driver would work properly on Windows 8.1 system. However, you can test such Win 7 drivers too. But of course I would recommend you to use the Win 8.1 drivers released for other notebook series.
As Im not mistaken the Qosmio X500 needs 2 sound drivers: Conexant (chip CX20583-10Z) sound driver as well as the nVidia sound driver (for HDMI)

  • QOSMIO X500-12D - webcam, bluetooth and fingerprint disconnection issues

    Hello,
I still got no solution for this problem. I already did a clean install of Win 7 x64 but still no luck. The devices still keeping disconnecting and I have to reboot to resolve. (this is bad since I normaly using a bluetooth keyboard)
Further this Problem seems not only to occour if system goes 'idle' since my bluetooth keyboard was disconnected during typing. (whatever 'idle' means).
Sometimes I was able to recover at least the Bluetooth connection by turn it off and on again within the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack, sometimes with the HW switch (which also deactivates the WLAN) and sometimes only a reboot helped.
It seems that all three devices (Bluetooth, Webcam, Fingerprintsensor) are connected to the same integrated USB root hub within the system.
After my last test, everything was working before I left the system during a nightly copy operation of a 'few' gig, I come back after ~4 hours and all devices were disconnected (HW not installed) --> I checked in the device manager (see [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241257] to show devices which are not connected and in the computermanagement right click device manager -> View -> Show hidden devices) all 3 devices shown as 'not connected'.
I already opened a case at support and they told me to update the bios. (when I opened the call the tests were done with the latest bios available)
Nevertheless, I also had a small talk with the support and they told me to restore the system from the recovery DVD's and check if the problem persists after the restore of the 'certified' image (drivers and so on). If it still persists they will do a HW repair. (change mainboard or whatever)
*AGAIN... is there still NO solution out there? I have searched the web and found many people with the same issues. (X500 owners and others)*
    _What did i tried:_
    - different hotfixes as described at [http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0402UQ0001R01.htm] and [http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ0402UC0001R01.htm] ([http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978258])
    - right now I am using [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981214] since the build numbers of the files are higher than in the hotfix mentioned above and therefor this hotfix should also resolve the problem described in [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978258]. (and I am using an USB audio device)
    - I also tried to disable different things of the power management (e.g. disabled usb selective suspending)
    Modell QOSMIO X500-12D
    Partnumber PQX33E-030009GR
    BS-Version Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 6.1.7600 x64
    BIOS-Version V2.60
    CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz
RAM 4096MB RAM {color:#ff0000}(<- Toshiba Tools reports wrong RAM size, 6GB installed)
    {color}HD Size 499,685,253,120 [Byte] 465.368 [GB]
Video NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M Version=8.17.12.5896
    Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080

    HI,
It seems that I have found a solution for this problem.
If you have read my first post exactly you should have read that i already disabled the selective USB suspend.
I have connected 2 external USB hubs which are powered by an AC/DC adapter. On this USB hubs I have connected varios USB devices...7.1 USB Headset, external HDD's, PDA, Card Reader, PKI device, USB Sticks, etc.
Nevertheless, I also disabled the the Powermanagement settings on all devices which were involved and where it is possible.
To do this goto the device manager --> right click --> View --> show devices by connection.
Now locate your bluetooth, webcam and fingerprint device. (be carefull names might be different because of different drivers!)
    Should be under ACPI x64-based PC --> PCI-Bus --> Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller --> {color:#ff0000}*USB-Root-Hub*{color} --> {color:#ff0000}*Generic USB Hub*{color} -->
There you should find all integrated devices which are troublemaker:
    * {color:#ff0000}*AuthenTec Inc. AES2550*{color}
    * Bluetooth USB Controller-7 from TOSHIBA
    * USB-Webcam
Now double click every device in this 'chain' and locate the powermanagement TAB. (Please note that NOT all devices in this chain do have a powermanagement tab and cannot be configured....that's ok)
On the power management tab uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' and click OK.
I have done this for all devices which are {color:#ff0000}*marked red in the chain above*{color}. (_I also deactivated the USB selective suspend in the used powermanagement plan!)_
It seems to work now....until now no more bluetooth problem or devices which were gone. It might be that it is enough to disable the Power saving settings only on one or two devices, but right now i had no time to test.
Please also keep in mind that I am using the latest Intel Chipset driver, latest Toshiba drivers and installed the Microsoft hotfixes described in my first post in this thread!
It would be very nice if some people can try and post here if it works!
    Regards

  • Qosmio X500 and HDMI output does not work automatically

    Sorry for my english..
    Good morning.
I have a Qosmio x500 recently that runs on Windows 8.1
Previously, when I plugged in a hdmi cable from the PC to the TV, I had ( Samsung TV ), after a beep on the PC , automatically binding and made ??the TV is lit ( if it was in standby).
I could even control the PC with the TV remote control, put a movie , pause, etc.. Super convenient!
Source indicated on the TV Anynet + Toshiba pc.
And when I commutais with the TV remote control on TV, the PC screen is lit .
Off, despite repeated attempts with at least 5 software (drivers ?) Different Toshiba certified HDMI, I do not have it and I have to manually switch to see the PC on the TV (choose HDMI source on the TV) .
HDMICtrlMan is a folder where after installation, there are:
    ChangeOutput.exe
    HCMSoundChanger.exe
    HDMICtrlCfg.exe
    HDMICtrlMan.exe
    But nothing works !
I also updated the video and audio driver: gforce gts 360m
    But now I hold!
And I do not know the logical progression of the computer when you plug an HDMI cable (totally depends on the graphics chip ?).
If someone has an idea or experience of this problem, thank you in advance

    >The problem is that with the drivers windows 7 64 bit, HDMI worked.
The problem is that you changed to a Windows system which is NOT supported on this notebook.
Of course you can use Windows 8.1 on this Qosmio X500 model but this does not mean that all notebook features would work properly.
Windows 8.1 is completely different and many Windows 7 tools and utilities are not compatible with Win 8.1
I dont know if this will help you but the Windows 8.1 Toshiba System Driver is very important software when in comes to use Windows 8.1 on Toshiba notebooks.
Try to install this Windows 8.1 Toshiba System Driver released for Qosmio X870/875 series.
But if this will not work, I dont see any other possible solutions.
Either you will give up the Windows 8.1 and will switch back to supported Win 7 or you would use Win 8.1 but without the automatic HDMI support.

  • Qosmio X500-014 (LED Backlit Display)

    Hello all, quick question here.
Just picked up my new Qosmio X500-014, although I'm quite satisfied with this machine I wish this particular model had the LED Backlit Display for the keypad.
Would it be possible to buy the correct Backlit keypad and swap it for the one in my mcahine? Or are there other components required as well?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for reply Dr.Lamp.
I did take the time to call Toshiba today and was told that I have a canadian model with multilingual keypad no backlighting. (Qosmio X500-014 Mfr. Part Number: PQX33C-01400N). They also told me that they do not carry nor sell parts for these laptops, any advice as to weather a backlit keypad would be compatible with my model is inconclusive. They did however give me the number to there parts supplier:
    National Parts Depot (1-800-524-8338)
Speaking with a Rep at National Parts Depot I was told they do not carry parts for the canadian versions, only the US versions. They do not have any reference to the X500 version only the X505 version.
Now I`m confused, is the X500 canadian only and the X505 the US variant? This may explain why all the models I see here in Canada have the same multilingual keypad with no lighting? (not sure)
So I decided to take things a step further and gave them the part number to a US model that has the English only LED backlit keypad . (Qosmio X505-Q850 Mfr. Part Number: PQX33U-00L00H). NPD won`t give me the part numbers for the keypad, but does have availability for $90.00 US funds, no guarantee that the LED lighting will work with my model number but should physically fit into my X500.
So, I guess I need to find the parts supplier for Canada and see what they have to say, if all else fails I may just take the $90 dollar gamble on the keypad for the X505 and see what happens, worst case I can always resell it on Ebay.
I`ll keep this thread updated with any findings, thanks.

  • Qosmio X500 Canadian version. Turbo mode how do you set it up?

I've had the Qosmio X500 (Canadian version) and have yet to figure out how to set the CPU to turbo mode which has been touted by Toshiba to be avail. I have installed an run a few games but a game such as Assassin's Creed tells me it has issues as the processor it sees runs at 1.6 vice the 1.9 required.
Any ideas guys I think it's very similar to the American X505 but no lighted keyboard nor the SSD primary hard drive.
    Thanks

Also, If you're running it on the high performance power setting, try it on Balanced instead. This laptop should be powerful enough to run your game on balanced, and balanced won't heat up the cpu as much, making it more likely to be at a proper temperature to turbo boost.

  • Qosmio x500 - "Delay in part delivery" 2 month long repair

I booked my Qosmio x500 laptop in for warranty repair for a failed hard drive replacement almost 2 months ago, and have just received a text message from the repair center saying the eta on the part is now for *next* month.
When I booked it in, it had another two months or so left on the extended warranty I bought with the machine. All these bad reviews of Toshiba warranty repairs are making me nervous.
I was initially told it was going to take two weeks to repair by the guy at Joyce Mayne since the depot is in another state.
A week and a half later I received my first text message from the repair center saying that there was a delay in part delivery and it would take another two weeks for the part to arrive.
I thought to myself 'that's fair, sometimes these things happen' and I didn't think too much of it until I called the Joyce Mayne store on the day it was supposed to be delivered to the store and was told that the "delay in parts" status was still in effect and it was going to take another two weeks...
So I call up last week and I'm promised it will definitely be in store in a weeks time on Friday and that they'll call me when it arrives.
Then I call up the store and they say it'll definitely be in store the next Friday...
So this brings us to today when I'm expecting to pick up my laptop in two days, I get another text message telling me there's a delay in part delivery and "current eta for parts" is next month.
Where can I make an official complaint? Is it worth making an official complaint? Is this the normal amount of time it takes to make a repair on a laptop?
The delinquent at the Joyce Mayne store says he's "just the messenger", so I asked him to email me the contact number of the repair depot and I never received it.

    Hi,
There is not much Toshiba can do if a part is delayed due to shipment from overseas, but maybe they can provide another solution. I would call their call center and tell them the situation. Looking on their website the phone number is 13 30 70.

    Hi
As far as I know the compatible keyboard has a part number: A000048040
But you can use any standard A4+10key flat half glossy black keyboard.
You can also contact (call) the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country to get (order) a new keyboard for this X500 Qosmio series.
The guys would be able to order such keyboard directly from Toshiba.

  • How to install properly a second hard disc in my Qosmio X500-13J?

    Hello,
i'd like to know if there is any accessories to install a second hard disc in a Qosmio x500-13J ?
I think it's necessary to fix the hard disc after plugin the sata connector and before closing the bay but i'm not sure ????
    Thank's , tonio8bits
    Message was edited by: ADMIN

    Hi tonio8bits,
Yes, for installing a second HDD you normally need a HDD holder like on first HDD. With other words its a case that holds the HDD to install it in slot properly. It should be the same as in first HDD slot...
I dont have the spare part number but an authorized service provider can help you to order this part. So you should get in contact with the guys to get this part.
Here is a list of all ASPs:

I hope I could help you a little bit :)

  • Qosmio X500/00X System Recovery (Factory Reset) From Hard Disk Drive or Separate Disk

    Hey Guys,
Looking for your advice and any links if any...cheers in advance
    My Situation
    In December 2009 I purchased a Toshiba Qosmio X500 - Model No. PQX33A-00X00J
At the time I upgraded my purchase from Toshiba Reseller BD4U, going from the standard 1x 500GB Sata drive + 1x 64GB SSD... to instead having 2x 500GB sata drives. I purchased with 3 year onsite next business day warranty, that is is now expired.
It came loaded with MS Win 7 Premium Home Edition - but no disks provided.
    My Needs
I need/want to factory reset my PC - its starting to run slow
I need to re-partition from my existing 4x partitions to just having 2
    The Issues
Possibly as a result of upgrading the disk drives at time of purchase, I don't believe I have a hidden Recovery partition in order to do a System Recovery from the Hard Disk Drive - see image of my current partitions attached
I don't have Win 7 OS installation disks or Toshiba Driver disks as they should have been installed by Toshiba
    My Questions
Do You agree that I DONT have a Recovery Partition - when looking at the partition image? I'm confused on this point coz people say its hidden!?
Given I have no Toshiba Drivers Disk or Windows 7 OS disks - what should I do? I'm thinking of downloading Win 7 (use my product key from sticker under PC) and making a disk/USB (but need to learn how)
Is this where I get ALL necessary Toshiba drivers for my PC from?
Does Toshiba provide a link on its site and instructions on where to get Win 7 from so I can make a recover disk??
    Notes
Tried to email Toshiba support but at step 1 of their email process validation failed due to my PC being out of warranty so will call them on Monday instead
THANK YOU THANK YOU, for any help you can give big ro small
    Cheers
    Rick

WOW, thanks Macius for that great, full and thorough reply...cheers mate
I suspected I didn't have a recovery partition - so thanks for confirming it as I planned to risk it and try! I guess it doesn't really matter why, and it would be futile to go and blame the re-seller or Toshiba at this late stage in the game in hopes they would help...
Yeah, I just went to Microsoft Software Recovery hoping to download Win 7 OS and create a recovery disk but of course Microsoft would NOT allow it due to it being software that was pre-installed on the device blah blah blah (see error image)
And I didn't bother back then in 2009 to create recovery media as you wisely descibed, mostly due to laziness and mentally putting it in the 'too hard basket'...I didn't really understand it - or much about computers at the time.
Re - your Option #2 - thanks for confirming Toshiba drivers. I could/can do this - but don't really want to buy something I already have, perhaps I'll check out ebay or see if a friend has a disk
Re - your Option #1 - I'm currently based in Vietnam and wont be back in Oz till late in the year, so will see if I can find a reliable Toshiba service provider here - but wont hold me breath on this one
I'm thinking that IF Option #1 is a No-Go then - maybe Plan B or Option #3 could be:
Do an Audit of Programs to identify those I don't need and can safely remove - then remove using Control Panel/ Remove Programs tool
Reformat all other drives (not C:// where OS is)
    Then use some re-partition software e.g. Disk-Partiton.com
    Any final thoughts???
Anyhow - thanks very much again
    Rick
