Toshiba depot damaged my laptop

I just received my laptop back from toshiba depot. They had to replace a lcd mask. Well the technician id PPA1 must have used a drill to remove the screws, because i now have drill bit scratches in that area. My laptop now looks severely damaged , and worst yet the lcd back or the outer cover looks like someone used it to go snowboarding, with very bad and deep scratches.
What do i do, can someone please help me.
Thanks in advance

Thanks, i already spoke to a case manager named Paulo, who was the rudest individual. He said he will have the depot send me a box to return it again for another repair. Then he hung up on me.
I will never buy another Toshiba again.
My brand new laptop is now all messed up, and looks like it came out of a garbage can. I have no idea a big corporation can do this to its customers. It seems like toshiba doesnt care about its customers.
The condition my laptop came back to me is alot worse than it was when i sent it in for repairs.
Is there a way i could complain to a corporate office. I have pictures of all the damages.

  • Laptop DAMAGED by Toshiba Depot!!!

I am so upset!  I sent my laptop for repair after fan and hard drive were about to fail to Toshiba Depot, they repaired that, so far so good.
BUT when I opened the box with my laptop, returned to me after repair, I realized that the front (of the chassis next to the touch pad) was BROKEN!!!     It was NOT like that when I sent it!
I hope you can see the pictures of the damaged I attached in a file below.... How can Toshiba Depot send it back in such condition???  They could have at least fixed their mistake.
I tried to contact by phone but no answer, and now I am waiting for a reply to the e-mail I sent them.

Thanks Jim, later today I will send you a private message with details and more pictures.
Yes, as of today I still got no answer.    I actually checked the package to verify the possibility of a damage during transportation. But I hardly doubt that is the case: it shipped overnight both ways with a sealed box authorized by Toshiba and both ways it was properly package (according to instructions on the box).  the box was one of those that inside covers the laptop with film and holds it in place.  I don't think the laptop has moved inside the box at all, so there was no possibility to damage the front the way it did.  Thinking about it, it looks to me that, when the front has been froced with something flat (a screwdriver perhaps) to lift-open the front of the computer that was not opening because the last screw on the left was probably holding the front of the chassis still tightened to some degree, the top of the chassis (in the front - which is weaker in structure then the bottom there: it bend more easily than the bottom) broke the way it did.  This is my analysis of the situation, but in addition, my 'educated' guess is that after insterting the tip of the flat screwdriver in between the bottom and top part of the case, the  guy twisted it clockwise.
I am very upset about this, so JimI truly hope you can help me. and thanks again for offering your help, I appreciate it.
Also I have a question for anyone who would happen know the answer:
A while back I had this same laptop fixed in Japan.  The Toshiba people over there changed the Hard Drive and re-uploaded the Vista system in Japanese (under my request).
Now that I have sent it for repair again, the Toshiba people in Kentucky changed the Hard Drive and fan as it states on the repair report I got with my computer back.  They also reloaded the factory setting (or whatever is loaded when a person changes a failing Hard Drive) with Vista system in English.  Now I get a message when I first enter Vista, that asks me to register my fingerprint in Japanese.  Why is that happening?  Wasn't the system reloaded in English?  Where is that information stored?
    thank you for your answers.

  • Multiple Problems with Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 laptop??

    Hi,
We purchased the Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 laptop at Best Buy about a week ago.  However, we seem to be having multiple problems with it, that I wouldn't have expected from a brand new Toshiba.
    Problems:
Whenever I'm in Mozilla Firefox browser, it crashes 90% of the time.  Firefox was always my favorite on our previous computer, and still is, I just can't use it because it continually crashes.
In Outlook, whenever I try to open a message or reply, or basically any general command, it pops up an error message that says, "Could not install the custom actions," and then does whatever I'd wanted it too.  It's a pain, as we do a lot of email and calendar through Outlook.
In Outlook, when I tried to import our Contacts, it says that we do not have the appropriate permissions to access the files.  We are the only user account on this computer.  We don't do seperate ones for each family member; we just turn on the PC.
It seems to me like the internet crawls on this computer.  Every time we try to play a video (e.g. ABC, CNN, Youtube), it won't buffer.  It just stops and starts all throughout the video about every 3 seconds.  HUGE nuisance.  We watch a lot of videos.
Minor issue:  In Firefox, before it has crashed that is, on my old computer I used to be able to type "cnet" without the quotes into the address bar, and it would take me to www.cnet.com.  If it couldn't find the page, it would take me to my default search engine's page (Yahoo) with the search results.  On this one, if I type anything into the address bar (like search terms/keywords) it bring up search results with a My Start Incredimail search engine.  I want my Yahoo search engine, and I want it to find the page if it can.
I cannot seem to get the Aero Flick (I think) to work.  That was one of the main things I was looking forward to, but I can't figure out how to do it.
It seems to me like the Windows Explorer freezes a lot.
There have been multiple times when I'm typing that the keys don't work.  Like I would have to press the A key about 10 times to get it to show up on the screen once.  It's hit and miss and doesn't do it all of the time.
This isn't a problem - just a question.  Is it best to leave the computer plugged in all of the time if it's stationary?  Or once it's fully charged, should I unplug it and let the power run down, and then re-charge it?
**CLARIFICATION:  It's not Outlook Express, it's Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.  The one that you have to pay for.  Surely it works with 7, considering it's Microsoft?!?!
If you can help me answer any of these problems/questions, I would really appreciate it.
Have a safe and Merry Christmas!

Yes, everything was fine with Firefox.  However, I have uninstalled it, and am just using Internet Explorer for now.
    Thanks for battery info...
I'm well within the return window, but overall really like the laptop.  I've put a lot of time into it, and just want it to work right if possible.
    Thanks for the info.
ScottinFla wrote:Concerning Firefox, have you checked your add-on list for any faulty plug-ins or extensions? Try disabling them and see what happens. Also, that search engine you mentioned may have somehow been installed on your machine. Have you checked the "Manage search engines..." window available from the search bar? Check your add-ons as well. You could always reinstall Firefox from scratch.
As for the battery, it may not be best to continually run down the battery - followed by a long charge. Once a month or so should be fine. Otherwise, just try to give the battery some exercise every now and then.
Are you still within the return window? Your unit may have a bad install, some bad RAM, or...
I have the same model and it works just fine.

You can use the adaptor that came with your device. They work in the UK. You will need a wall outlet plug adaptor, however. You can buy them at most AAA travel outlets, computer stores, or buy Apple's World Travel Kit.

  • Toshiba Portege S100-S1133 Laptop - Intenet (Cable or Wireless) cuts off when phone rings

Toshiba Portege S100-S1133 Laptop, Intel(R) Pentium(R) M, processor 1.73GHz 795MHz, 512 MB of RAM.  Internet (cable or wireless - COMCAST service) cuts off when the house phone (AT&T service) rings.  The HP Laptop in the house doesn't have this problem.  COMCAST can't fix the problem.

The only way to fix the problem entirely is to not have any 2.4GHz cordless phones in the house. You can try to change the wireless channel on your router but it probably won't be far enough from the 2.4GHz phones to help. I assume when you say it shares internet you mean that your home computer is connected in the back with ethernet and that is why the internet stays up on it. Your MBP connects wirelessly so it disconnects when the phone is in use.
Go to 192.168.1.1. Log in by leaving username blank and password is admin. [Follow these instructions|http://www.tutorial5.com/content/view/155/79> to change anything you need to (such as if you have unsecured wireless). Click wireless and under basic wireless settings you probably have channel 6 by default. Try channel 1. (Though you can also get into problems with wireless networks of neighbors interfering so download [Airport Radar|http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/networking_security/airportradar .html] and try to avoid channels that are nearby).
As I said the only solution is not using 2.4GHz phones.

  • How to restore default BIOS settings on Toshiba 1410 / 1415 / 2410 laptops? Option to CHGBIOSA?

I  have problems booting to any operating system but DOS on Toshiba Satellite 1410 (in very good physical condition) after few years of inactivity (drained down main battery and CMOS battery - now they're charged)
Windows stops with BSOD (error 0x0000008e), Linux stops with kernel panic, bad_area_nosemaphore and IRQ error.
Plain MS-DOS 7.10 seems to run OK.
BIOS was 1.40 with main password set. After first boot it displayed request for entering password and pressing F1 key to set the hardware clock. Now it doesn't display this message anymore.
Two memory modules (Nanya - 256 MB, 266 MHz, CL 2,5) are OK - checked on different versions of MemTest86+
(Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool hangs when starting!)
I dismantled laptop and cleaned very small amount of dust inside with compressed air.  Changed thermal paste on the processor (Celeron M 1,8) and bridge. Turned laptop on with extension cards, battery and disk and without them also.
    It didn't help.
I flashed the CMOS with BIOS 1.20, 1.30 and 1.40 back again. None of the versions didn't let booting neither Windows nor Linux.
MS-DOS, PC-DOS, FreeDOS still run OK.
What's more interesting - after flashing procedure all BIOS settings were intact (booting priority, battery saving mode, etc.). And yes - I removed the password before flashing!
I was suspicious about problems occuring when laptop was entering 32-bit mode and checked it with Video Memory Stress Test.
When CMOS was flashed with 1.20 BIOS above test was running flawlessly. However, with 1.30 and 1.40 version it stopped >>Unhandled Exceptopn "Access Denied"<< in 8th iteration when lucky. Most of the time it stopped after 2nd or 3rd iteration after framebuffer subtest.
    So my question are:
    - did CMOS lost its settings or somehow they were corrupted after long period of laptop's inactivity?
    - is Video extension of this BIOS flashable?
    - why the settings are NOT restored to defaults after each CMOS flashing?
    - or maybe there is some hidden switch/option to CHGBIOSA flasher to reset non-flashable CMOS area?
    - or is my built-in Video Card (nVidia NV17M) or IRQ enumerator dead?

Hi Jerry! I think I'm on board now, anyway I hope so. I removed both devices and switched them around. The device manager shows two USB devices. One is Mass Storage and one is Composite. I don't realy know which one is the 1TB and which one is the 16 GB. In my boot menu, it just says USB now?? My laptop only has three USB ports. Two on the right and One on the left. I have a wireless mouse plugged in one of the ports on the right as you can see in device manager. I hope this is what you were asking. I can be a little thick headed at times, so let me know what else you want me to try Thank you for your kind reply. It really means a lot to me.

  • Toshiba doesn't recognise laptop or tablet when using HDMI

I have a toshiba (Model#46G310U) and when try to connect a laptop or tablet using HDMI cable. It says no signal.
But when i connect the laptop using VGA cable, it works. i want to know my Tv is compatible with tablet or laptop using HDMI cable or if i need to change some setting.

    Jolin:
Were those scanned tiff image files you added the data to with exiftool? See if PhotoInfo can read the EXIF data in those files. If not then the fields are not the correct ones.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

    Hey,
thanks for the answer, I've uploaded the pictures on a new site.
the problem is that the sticker on the buttom with model number is blank.
I dont know if the original owner was supposed to write the numbers onto the
sticker himself but there is nothing.
Is there any other place where I could find info on the laptop, maybe inside it?

  • Experience going bad with Toshiba Depot Center

We have a Tecra R840 that has been sent to the depot in Louisville, KY (UPS Contract Repair Center?) twice for the same problem.  The first time, it came back in a week, but, the problem was not resolved.  It has been at the Depot since 8/16/12 without any progress on the repair, and no contact from Toshiba.  We are becoming concerned with this unit.  It only took a week for the unit to ship when it was originally ordered, but it takes much longer to repair?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Peter,
That is the site I have been using to check the status.  The status has shown "in repair" for weeks.  Is there someone I can call to get an idea as to when this unit might be coming back?  As you can imagine, having a computer out of service for this amount of time is troublesome.

  • Toshiba Updates for my laptop

I bought my laptop 9 months ago.  I've done a few updates from emails.  I went out to the toshiba site to updates and it shows over a  140 updates for my model some going back to 2005.  How do I find out which one of these I should up load versus ones that were on my laptop when I bought it.
    Appreciate any help

Unless you are having a problem then I wouldn't bother with any of the updates on the Toshiba Support Site with the exception of the ones listed under Support Bulletins.  You'll have to manually check the version of the driver installed against what the support bulletin lists to determine if you need any of them though.  There's no magic button to push that check you system like Microsoft's Windows Update does.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Apple Service Damaged my laptop!!!

Sent my laptop in for Hard Drive repair/replacement and it returned with a DENT in the lower case! They replaced the hard drive, AND, obviously due to the damage they caused when they dropped it! - they also replaced the MotherBoard, Antenna, and Bluetooth!
This is dented so bad that the PCMCIA door is stuck halfway open.
Apple Product Specialist (who, by the way, has NO supervisor?!) refuses to consider replacing the damaged laptop and will only offer a new box to ship it back for them to replace the case.
Do I have ANY recourse? I just don't trust them! They dropped it to begin with and now I'm supposed to trust them when they say everything's okay?! And when things do go south, are they going to say I DROPPED it so it won't be covered?!
Can anyone tell me how to reach Steve?! Apparently I spoke to the girl directly under him (since she has no supervisor!)
By the way, the last time I had an issue like this (an iBook was damaged during shipping because they used different packing materials than what I sent it to them with) they sent me a brand new iBook to replace it! Now THAT'S the way to rectify a situation like this!
    PowerBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Thank you Wayne!
Problem solved and they gave me a new battery as a "goodwill gesture"! unfortunately I received a replacement MOUSE but I'm sure that can be easily corrected!
    Thanks again for the help!

  • Am I damaging my laptop by turning it off?

I hope this is the right place to ask this, if not I apologize.
A few years ago, I was told by a computer sales associate that leaving your laptop on permanently is bad. I believed him because I owned a Sony at the time that had worn down rather rapidly. I had a habit of leaving it on for long periods of time so I just figured I had messed it up doing so.
So now that I have a Macbook Pro, I want to take good care of it. So when I go to class, I turn it off. I could be gone anywhere between 3 hours and 8 hours. When I go to sleep I turn it off as well. I could sleep anywhere between 4 hours and 10 hours (I know, that's a lot >.>). I figured I was keeping it in good shape, I even monitor how much power my battery has left so it's not always plugged in and sticking at 100%.
But I've been reading up on this issue and most people seem to be saying that only restarting your computer occasionally is fine. I've even seen where people have left their computers on for months. I don't really feel comfortable doing that...but what made me wonder is a post made by someone on another forum saying that turning your computer off could be worse for it because you are constantly making it stop and restart. He even suggested that if you are only leaving it off for, say, 4 hours or so, to just leave it Hibernate instead.
Am I doing more damage to my computer than good?

Six of one... half dozen of another. The charging components will not allow your battery to overcharge. There is no harm leaving it plugged in (at least with respect to the possibility of over charging). It is important that you use your machine on battery from time to time as the battery needs to be exercised in order to perform well. Apple recommends calibrating your battery (which involves fully discharging and recharging the battery) every few months:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1490
Typically when people are referring to never turning off their machines... they are not referring to always leaving them on. Basically, most people put their Macs to sleep. This happens when you close the lid and the system goes into an ultra low power state where only the contents of the RAM are maintained so the machine can be awakened quickly by opening the lid.
Here is Apple's recommended battery care guidelines:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
It's basically not necessary to turn off your machine when you're not using it... but unless you are constantly turning it on and off, there's not much harm in shutting it down either if you wish to do so. The vast majority of Mac users do not regularly shut down their machines. If others post here, I would expect they would say the same. That should pretty much tell you that you don't need to shut your machine down.
