Toshiba Satellite L755-S5216 poor sound

I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite L755-S5216. The sound is barely audible through the on board speakers, and hardly any better with speakers plugged in. There doesn't seem to be any upgrade to the Conextant audio driver available. I've checked all the settings and have all the volume levels at max. I've been told by our IT guys that there isn't really anything I can do with this model as the sound is poor at best on most of them, and Toshiba has never really bothered to address the issue. Does anyone know if there is a fix, or should I just save this one for general web duties and buy another laptop?

My computer has the same problem. The sound is muffled. I called Toshiba and hooked them into the computer. They told me the driver was corrupted for the sound. This was NOT covered by the warrenty. I explained I wasn't buying a warrenity for $199 (this is more than half what I paid for the computer) when it should work out of the box. They "fixed" it - NOT. They also were going to call me back - NOT.
I have 4 Toshiba laptops. They all came with warrenties and systems discs. The tech support person explained they don't give the discs or the warrenty anymore to save money. My advice is to write to the Attorney General of your state and the Better Business Bureu and buy a DELL.

  • Toshiba Satellite L755-S5216 Black Screen after failed bios update

There was a Toshiba BIOS update that went awry and now the computer won't turn on. I can hear the fans and see the lights, but all there is is a blank screen.

I'm not a tech support agent, but there are a couple things I would suggest doing.
While the laptop is off and unplugged, remove the battery, hold the power button for 10 seconds, restore the battery, and try the laptop again. If that doesn't work, try booting on only AC power without a battery.
If you still don't have any luck, give support a call at (800) 457-7777.
    Good luck!

Toshiba USA has not supplied a full set of Windows XP drivers for your model. This is most likely your problem. Toshiba laptops are very finicky about only working properly with the Toshiba supplied drivers, not those from the chipmaker or Windows Update. Unfortunately, after checking the Toshiba Asia, Australia, Europe and India sites, none of them have XP drivers for your model.
Perhaps the best solution would have been to use Windows 7 - XP Mode. This is a free option if you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate editions. If XP Mode works for your purposes, you could just have used Windows Anytime Upgrade, to upgrade the Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit edition your system came with to upgrade your system.
However, as you have installed Windows XP, you have probably wiped out the Toshiba Recovery partition that was on your hard drive. So, unless you made a set of Toshiba Recovery Media, as per the directions on pages 74-75 of your L755 User Manual, you may want to order a set of recovery media from Toshiba.
Please let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Toshiba Satellite L755-S5306 Blue Screen of Death BSOD

If you are having “The Blue Screen Of Death” (BSOD) with a Toshiba Satellite L755-S5306 you are not alone. Please leave a comment in hopes enough of us can find each other and come up with a more permanent solution than the work around I present here. As of the day this was posted there was nothing index into Google or Toshiba’s forums regarding a Toshiba Satellite L755-S5306 having a BSOD problem.
Unfortunately I don't have an answer or solution so much as a troubleshooting alternative and that is to install Ubuntu 11+. I would rather use windows7 but the fact that Ubuntu runs without crashes indicates that my problem is a Windows 7 software issue. Windows7 is conflicting with either the hardware within my computer or some pre-installed factory software.
This laptop is new (it has only been out of the box for 3 months), has an i3 processor, 4GB of RAM and is still under warranty; until Sept. 10, 2012. I have yet to contact Toshiba but will. Within the last month (Feb. 2012) I started to get multiple BSODs out of no where. These were the following error messages:
    1. KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
    Caused By Driver : luafv.sys
    2. KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
    Caused By Driver : Ntfs.sys
    3. SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
    Caused By Driver : ntoskrnl.exe
    4. PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    Caused By Driver : ntoskrnl.exe
    5. KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
    Caused By Driver : partmgr.sys
You can see my full BSOD error reports here: CLICK HERE
I have done all of the following hoping to solve this issue with no luck:
    1. Re-formated computer with factory shipped disk. Five Minutes after I did this I got the BSOD. That definitely eliminated the idea that it was something I had installed or that it was a windows update conflict.
    2. Got all window updates. That didn’t help.
    3. Checked all drivers manually one by one through the device manager for updates; according to the Device Manager there was no updates.
*However, this is the only area of hope that I have. I downloaded the program Drive Max and it list several drivers as outdated. I can only download two a day and install them. After I have them all installed I will report back as to whether or not I have a BSOD.
    4. Updated BIOS. Toshiba did have a BIOS update available but the update did not fix my BSOD problems. I have seen on this forum many people have had problems with the BIOS but I have not.
    5. Ran window's memory diagnostic tool. It reported  no errors.
60 I also ran Ubuntus memory test and passed.
    7. Check Disk with no errors
After all those failed attempts I took to the Internet. That is when I ran across a post online where a person stated they had the same problem with a similar Toshiba laptop and switched to Ubuntu. After doing so they had no problems. I did the same and agree I have no issues after one week. So I hope this helps for now. If anyone has this problem or finds a windows based solution please leave a comment.

Thank you all for your help.
Since I reformatted every time I have booted up I have turned on the Windows memory diagnostic too. I did this in hopes that if a BSOD occurred it would catch something when it rebooted and today it did after an extended memory test.
I got the standard message, “Hardware problems were detected...Test results will be displayed again after you log on”, however no test results were ever displayed. Does anyone know if there is a way to manually find the results of the test? Also, I ran the test again to see if I could get the results and the second time it said there were no problems detected.
At this point I am suspecting it to be a faulty stick of RAM. Windows 7 utilizes about 1.25GB of ram when booted and Ubuntu 200MB. This very well could be why Ubuntu works without problems.
I have to write a business plan in the next few weeks and cannot send my laptop in until that is done. So I will continue to use Ubuntu until done with my plan and then contact Toshiba. I will post back with any information I get in regards to the problem and once again thank you all for your help.

  • Problem with sound on my Satellite L755-1LZ

    Hi people,
I think this is where we can help. For a long time struggling to fix the sound, but I fail.
When you boot, you will hear windows sound, the sound for some time, and then suddenly disappear.
Drivers are good, I deleted and then went Automatic update. All in all, the sound works for a short time.
Could this be a software or hardware failure? Thanks people!
My laptop is: Toshiba Satellite L755 - 1LZ
I find it strange that the sound works, but briefly, the fault may be to the speaker .. what do you think?
    I'm so grateful in advance

Could someone follow exactly this steps just to check if its helps to resolve the issue?
    Step 1:
Uninstall the Device from Device Manager
    Open Device Manager
    Expand the Sound Adapter section.
    Find the Sound card Driver.
Right click Sound card Driver and select Uninstall.
Select the check box delete the driver software for this device.
Reboot the computer after uninstall process has finished.
    Step 2:

Click on start, select Control Panel
Now click on Programs and select Programs and Features.
    Find the Sound card Driver.
Right click Sound card Driver and select Uninstall.
Reboot the computer after the uninstall process has finished.
    Step 3:
Download and install the latest drivers for the Audio card from the Toshiba website
    Step 4:
    1. Select Control Panel from the list.
    2. Then click on Hardware and Sound
    3. Now you have to click on Manage Audio Devices to get to the Sound panel.
    4. Now Select Playback > Speakers > Enhancements and make sure everything is un-checked.
    5. Then Select Playback > Speakers > Advanced and un-check 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device'
    6. Then go to Recording > Microphone > Listen and ensure Listen to this device' is unchecked.
    7. Then go to Levels and ensure the Microphone level is at 100% and the Boost is at +10db
    8. Now got to Enhancements and make sure everything is un-checked.
    9. Then you have look into Advanced tab and un-check 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device'
    10. And finally go to the Communications tab of the Sound panel, and change 'When windows detects communications activity' to 'Do nothing'.

  • Satellite L755-16J - Trouble with sound card

I currently own a Toshiba *Satellite L755-16J* and it is having some sort of trouble with the sound card, i think.
When i bought it, it came with windows 7, i changed the windows to windows 8 and since then the audio has been troubling me.
The internal speakers work for a minute or two when i play an audio file but then stop working.
i had been using an external usb soundcard and external speakers for some time but decided to switchback to windows 7 for the sound to work properly again. even though i have switched back to win 7, the sound still doesnt work.
I am quite sure that the problem is not in the internal speakers because they do work, although just for a brief moment but they work, so i am guessing the problem is in the software instead of the hardware.
i tried updating the sound drivers but they seem to be up to date, according to windows the drivers "seem to be working properly"
    Can anyone help?

    > even though i have switched back to win 7, the sound still doesnt work.
    How did you do that?
Did you use the Toshiba Recovery Disk in order to install Win 7 or did you install the Win 7 using fresh and clean Windows 7 disk?
The notebook supports Conexant sound chip. The sound driver is available on the Toshiba EU driver page and in case the sound chip is already recognized in device manager after the sound driver installation, I assume the driver has been installed properly.
In such case I would recommend you to connect the headphones.
In case the headphones would function properly, the speakers might be affected. I mean the hardware. But of course its only an idea.
Beside the headphone check, you could check also the settings within the control panel -> sound -> playback tab.
Usually the speakers should be set as default device.
    Check this option too.

  • Satellite L755-1HW - colours do not look natural on display

I recently bought Toshiba Satellite L755 and I'm generally pleased with it. It's an upgrade from my Toshiba Satellite L300.
However I have an issue with the way it displays colours. At first glance everything seems ok, but then again some colours do not look right.
For example, gold on my old Toshiba looks 'gold'; on the new one it's kind of yellowish and generally, yellow seems to dominate in some ways and red is often not truly red.On the other hand, the old Toshiba seems to have a better picture; better contrast and more natural well saturated colours with no issues as above.
The colours on the new display look like they've been filtered and have some kind of tinge of an unidentified colour. I compared a number of photos on both laptops and the difference is consistent.
My L300 runs on default settings; the only thing I adjusted is brightness. I tried adjusting settings on my L755; brightness, contrast, hue, gamma, saturation but without any improvement.
I've done colour calibration and when I get to the 'shades of gray' they seem fine like everything else in this test and yet something's not right. I would appreciate any advice and I hope it's not just a poor quality display.
I cannot connect the laptop to another display, but I can paste screendumps if needed.

Connecting an external monitor would be a good test, but as I said at the beginning I don't have vga cables. I can compare colours on my old and new toshiba.
Perception of colours might obviously be subjective and without comparing, many would find nothing wrong with the colours on my new toshiba. However, I can tell warmer shades from colder ones and it's ultimately me using the computer.
I made a trip to a computer shop and looked at a number of different laptops and it's really difficult to see much difference in colours looking at e.g. Windows 7 sample pictures. In fact, when I look at them on my computer they seem OK and not different to what I saw on other laptops at the shop. It's only when I copied them to my old toshiba that I saw the difference.
Of course, you may say it's my old toshiba that shows colours wrong, but I'm sure you'd agree with me if you saw the difference. The colours are natural and warmer, something I cannot say about achieve on my new toshiba.
I used to have an excellent Samsung external LCD monitor and when I bought my old toshiba I was mostly disappointed with sharpness and angles compared to the samsung. Now this time it's the colours, notably yellow just like in the case of the person whose link I pasted. For them the problem disappeared after moving from intel (with HD Graphics 3000 as I checked) to AMD. That's why I asked about your card and impression.
Also, have you compared colours on your laptop with another one (older model) or connected it to an extenal monitor/tv?

  • Satellite L755 - after Win 8.1 upgrade cannot use FN+F8

    Hi Sirs;
After I update my laptop Toshiba Satellite L755 to Windows 8.1 and when I press FN+F8 to off or on the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth it is not working.
I removed VAP then system driver and then functions key utility and re installing it not Success to turn of,
    please any advice?

Windows 8.1 does NOT support the Value Added Package anymore!
The VAP was released for Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 Upgrade
Notebooks which were preinstalled with Win 8 do not contain VAP anymore!
But the Satellite L755 does not seem to be Win 8.1 supported.
So you will be lucky man if you will get these function buttons working.
I can recommend you to check the Win 8.1 driver released for Satellite L855 series.
Install the Toshiba Function Key Utility and Toshiba System Driver
    Maybe it would help

  • Satellite L755-S5368 - PrintService Error Event ID 372

I got a Toshiba Satellite L755-S5368 laptop with Windows 7 64b. I have an HP 1020 LaserJet printer with the latest HP software installed lj1020-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe that I can find from HP. The printer works fine, but everytime I print something an error message is logged in Event Viewer.
I googled this, but did not find anything that matches what I am getting. Everything I saw on goolge the printer actually would not print, but mine prints fine.
Does anyone know how to get Event Viewer to stop logging the code everytime I print to the HP laserjet 1020?
    Level-Error Source-PrintService Event ID-372
The document Microsoft Word - 2012-2, owned by YYY, failed to print on printer HP LaswerJest 1020. Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.
I get this anytime I print to the laserjet 1020 with Word, Excel, Notepad, Acobat, etc. Like I said, it prints fine, but I want to get rid of the error code being logged everytime I print.
I have posted this at both sevenforms plus the HP support forums, I have not gotten a response from either site.

Sorry I didn't realise that your printer doesn't use PCL (printer control language) - your computer converts a document to a printer specific file whereas with a PCL compliant printer your computer creates a file to one of the PCL standards and sends that to the printer.
The only other suggestion I have is that occasionally self extracting and installing driver files get it wrong. I'd try uninstalling and deleting (if possible) the printer drivers and unpack the files out of your "exe" file to disk and then do a manual "Add a printer" printer

  • What does it mean if two orange lights on my Satellite L755 are blinking?

I have a Toshiba Satellite L755-154 (PSK2YE). Recently, whenever I launch a high-resource game (Train Simulator 2015), after about half an hour the power and battery indicators blink orange. A while after this, the laptop cuts out. What is going on?
    Thanks in Advance

Usually the power indicator (2nd from left) glows white when the computer is turned on.
This indicator will flash orange (amber) when the notebook turns off into sleep mode.
The battery indicator shows the condition of the battery charge.
White indicates the battery is fully charged, amber (orange) indicates the battery is charging and flashing indicates low battery condition.
In my opinion it looks like the notebook turns into the sleep more or shut down because the battery charging status is low.
At the other hand it could be possible that your notebook overheats due to unacceptable high temperature level. In such case the DC IN indicator would flash orange and the notebook would shut down.
This might be also the case since this issue happens while running a high performance game.
In case of high internal temperature, you should check if the cooling vents as well as the cooling grilles are free of dust and the cooling air could circulate properly.
