Tracking/mapping links

Hello all,
I am working with a large number of InDesign files (72 to be exact). I am trying to find an efficient way to record all the links I use in every document.  I would like to create a list of all the links in each document to see if I can consolidate anything and replace a few links with 1 indesign file to function as the "link" instead. (A "multiple use file" as I call it. I use some the same pdfs over and over again so when things change, it's best to have one ID file serve as the master file which I can re-use and make changes to content year after year.)
I'm stuck as to the best way to go about it.
I could package the files to get a list of the links/locations and paste that info into an excel file...but would this be the quickest way?
Perhaps I need to bite the bullet and just do that, but to package and compare links in all 72 files doesn't sound fun. I'm curious if anyone has any other suggestions on tracking/comparing links.
Thanks!
~C

  • LMS 4.2 bent or crooked Topology Map links

    Hello all,
I'm trying to include as much info as I can, so forgive the lengthy post. I have an ongoing issue with reoccurring bent or crooked Topology map links. Imagine two devices that are in the same region, even installed in the same data closet. The map link between device A may go off across the map, take a 90 degree turn, run a little bit, then take another 90 degree turn back to device B. The bent links are not between all devices and seems to reappear even after I right-click and delete the link(s). The bent links may even reappear between numerous different devices, even after I cleanly log out of my map and LMS. I have worked with at least two Cisco TAC support CSE's who have never seen this issue (scary), and have been unable to provide a solution except to delete my "Layer~2~View.xml" server profile file, but this is no guaranteed fix.
    Here is my LMS setup:
    > Windows Server 2008 SP1, with all Important updates
    > Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.3
    > Workstation is Win7 Enterprise, fully patched
    > Internet Explorer 9
    > Java SE 6 Update 38
This issue was also happening under LMS 4.2.2.  Based on another article I found on these forums, I have deleted and recreated all of my LMS databases to defaults, to no avail. I am also fighting another issue where my Topology maps are not saving, producing the "Unable to save map..." message in the lower-left map corner (I added my comments to an existing post about that annoying issue.)
See attached picture for an example.
Any suggestions or comments are welcome.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
May be is independed of the browser but if i started under IE it was unsuccessfull.
I cleared the java from my computer and opened the LMS by IE. The java was intalled but topology map did not started.

  • Object Map Link in Navigation Page

I am playing with Navigation Pages in R2. When I create a new page group Portal automantically creates two sample navigation pages: "Sample Banner 1" and "Sample Vertical Navbar". On the "Sample Vertical Navbar" there is an item called "Page Group Map" which has a type of "Object Map Link".
I've tried to create my own custom navigation Page and would like to include this item. However, "Object Map Link" does not appear in any of the "add item" choices. Am I looking in the wrong place?

    Hi Robert,
You may need to expose the Object Map Link item type in your page group first. Edit the page group properties, go to the Configure tab, click Edit in the Content Type and Classification section, then make sure that Object Map Link is included in the Visible Item Types list.

  • Copy Apple Maps link

I'm doing an iBook and want to link addresses in the text to open in Apple Maps on the iPad. How do I copy the Apple Maps link to paste into the Navigator?

Thanks but I think this is a Maps issue - finding a way to copy a map's url or link would be useful for multiple applications, other than just iBooks Author.
I have about 185 addresses to link into my iBook project, so the thought of coding each link is not a happy one!

  • Tracking external links

My HMTLDB application manages many external links.
I'd like to somehow count which of these is used more often to be able to do things like:
    List most popular items
Any suggestions on best methods to track external links?
Anyone else done something like this?
(i.e. use redirects or some other method)
    Thanks,
    Erik

    Erik ,
You need to include your workspace ID in the proc call
    begin
    htp.p('<a href=HTMLDB_UTIL.COUNT_CLICK?p_url=http://yahoo.com&p_cat=yahoo&p_company=NNNN
    Click </a>')
where NNNN = your workspace ID.
You can obtain Workspace ID value using function HTMLDB_CUSTOM_AUTH.GET_SECURITY_GROUP_ID

  • Email geotagged photos with map link.

I use Nokia Location Tagger in my Nokia N95-1.
Nokia Location Tagger geotag my photos and I can se in Nokia Maps that the coordinates are right.
I want to email my geotagged photos from my phone to my friends and also a map link with the coordinates.
If my friends click on the coordinates (or on the photo) I want Google Maps (or similar) to open.
Is it possible to send a map link like this?

    Hi there,
Okay, I understand what you're trying to do a little better now. How about Share on Ovi in conjunction with the Share Online client for the mobile phone? It works very well, I just pushed a photo with a GeoTag this morning, which gives you a Google Map View tab when you visit the link. The application on the phone and online both let you send links to your friends. Check out my post:
    http://share.ovi.com/channel/travla.MyStuff
You just need to sign up at http://share.ovi.com.
I also noticed that if you don't want to download the Share Online client (or if you handset was not supported), each channel you create (think of channels like folders) has an e-mail address associated with it. All you need to do to post without the Share Online client (say from your desktop PC or Mobile E-mail client) is to mail your GeoTagged media to these customised channel e-mail addresses and you media is posted on the web with a Map View. Very cool.....

  • Map links vs individual graphic links?

Are there advantages / disadvantages to using Map links as opposed to creating individual graphics for links? I sometimes make a graphic to go on a home page with links to the main sections of the site (separate from the  main navigation), and have always felt the need to cut the image into separate graphics, thinking that Map links were somehow not as "good". I don't really have any basis in fact to think this - so I thought I'd ask…
    Thanks…
    DB

I don't think there is any difference in the value of the two, really.  I can see a difference arise if there are LOTS of the images to link as opposed to a single large image to map, but even then I'm not sure which side the advantage will fall to.  Generally it's thought that fetching two smaller images is faster than fetching a single larger image since the two-images can be fetched simultaneously.  As the number of images increases the advantage here fades rapidly due to a) network congestion, and b) multiple hits on the server.
    So - suit yourself....

  • Image map links not working in all browsers

Hi, I develop HTML marketing emails once a week and my boss
has recently informed me that some, not all, of the image mapping
links do not work in all browsers or emails i.e. MacMail, Opera,
Safari, etc. He's positive there's something in Dreamweaver that
makes the links universally accommodated no matter what email/web
browser you use, but I haven't been able to find a solution as of
    yet.
Any help on this would be appreciated, thanks!
    :music;

Let's start with the least critical issue. Your boss and his
    boss are
simply wrong. An HTML link is just an HTML link, whether
    created in DW or
    in Notepad.
Now, on to the meat. When you upload this page to the web, do
    the links
work? And when you say that they don't work, what do you
    mean? Do you mean
that when you click on them, you are not taken to the linked
    page? Which
    links are not working?
Finally, why do you have your mapped image also within an
    anchor tag?
    <a href="
    http://www.beyondthewall.com/xcart/giftcert.php"><img
    src="Slice.jpg" width="263" height="58" border="0"
    usemap="#Map" /></a>
Is that the one where the link doesn't work?
Can you post a link to this page on the web, please?
