Trackpad forgets speed setting

Under Lion, my Magic Trackpad keeps forgetting its speed settings (how quickly a single-finger motion moves the cursor on the screen). I have it set one notch down from fastest, and it will randomly reset to the middle setting. I've not had this problem before.
It might have something to do with my using Parallels Desktop with a Windows 7 virtual machine, because the mouse speed setting seems to get reset there as well. When the trackpad resets, it happens universally -- both within the VM and outside of it. I'm not sure, however, whether Parallels is the problem. I never had this issue prior to Lion.
Anyone experiencing this issue who isn't using Parallels?
Anyone having this issue WITH Parallels? If so, have you had any luck working around it? Maybe it will be fixed in the next Parallels update.
Also, I think this is a general trackpad issue -- not just with the Magic Trackpad but with the built-in trackpad on my MacBook Air as well.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Yes, I will post feedback both to Apple and Parallels about this.

Hi Linda,
Did you ever resolve this?
I have this issue too, but ONLY when Parallels (v6) is running. I run it in the "crystal" Coherence mode.

  • Trackpad tracking speed keeps changing

    I see lots of posts with trackpad issues, but I can't find one about this problem.
    If I plug into an external mouse into my computer, which I do when working on my external monitor, when I unplug the mouse the speed setting on the trackpad changes.
    It doesn't change to the mouse speed setting, it changes to something totally random. This happens whether the mouse was a generic USB wired mouse, or my Logitech wireless.
    Not a show stopper, but really, really annoying.
    Any insights appreciated!

    I don't know about Mountain Lion but I used to use Tiger (OS X v10.4) and it had crazy, complex and unnatural (to me) mouse acceleration. Perhaps that's what you're referring to? Back then there were a few replacement mouse preference panes and mouse drivers available which improved things to some degree, but it wasn't an easy thing to change because of the (very bad) way the mouse acceleration feature was implemented.
    I don't know if Apple has either changed the mouse acceleration or made it more straight-forward to customize since then.

  • Magic trackpad tracking speed changes

    My Magic trackpads tracking speed changes to slow when I log off. I have to reset it when I log on.
    How do I set the tracking speed to stay put?

    If you use MagicPrefs, some people believe that causes the Magic Trackpad to default back to slowest tracking speed on restart/relog. Have a look at the Magic Prefs preferences pane for the Trackpad and see if you can change the default tracking speed in that instead of the System Preferences pane.
    If you don't use MagicPrefs, there is a fix using Terminal for the same problem with the Magic Mouse, and it may work for the trackpad too. I'm adapting this from Tyler Nicols' post on his blog.
    Open a Terminal Window
    Enter the following command to see what your current setting is:
             defaults read -g com.apple.trackpad.scaling
    This will return a numeric value. To speed up (or slow down) your mouse tracking, you can simply change this number accordingly by typing the following command, replacing the “your_trackpad_speed” with a new number such as 5.0. Notice that read has been changed to write:
            defaults write -g com.apple.trackpad.scaling your_trackpad_speed
    So, for example:
            defaults write -g com.apple.trackpad.scaling  5.0
    You may need to restart your mac to see the changes take effect.
    Let me know if it works for you.

  • Tracking Speed Setting Not Saving

    Hey MacBook owners, try this:
    * Open System Preferences, click on Keyboard & Mouse, and then click on the Trackpad tab.
    * Set the Tracking Speed so that its on the third tick from the right (or under the second "e" in "Speed").
    * Quit System Preferences.
    * Reopen System Preferences, click on Keyboard & Mouse, and then look at where the Tracking Speed is set: Is it now on the fourth tick from the right (under the letter "p" in "Speed"?).
    Well, that's what's happening to me. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but I'm wondering if it's a preferences glitch, or an issue with the trackpad itself.
    Thanks.
    13-Inch MacBook, Intel Core 2 Duo (Black); Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Mine does the same. Put it on the third tick from the left, and it comes back on the second tick. I just leave mine on "fast" and it stays there.

  • Trackpad tracking speed resets since 10.5.6

    Since 10.5.6 and the new solo trackpad preference, I've had an issue with the trackpad tracking speed resetting from my fast setting to a slower one. It seems to happen when I use my mouse and wake from sleep with the mouse plugged in.
    It may be a conflict with either the Kensington Mouseworks preference panel (I have a trackpad at work) or the software for my Razer mouse. But before I start tinkering with those, I wonder if anyone else is having problems with the speed setting?

    See if this will work for you. Let us know.

  • Adobe Reader ignores mouse scroll speed setting

    Whenever I load a .PDF file, the mouse scroll wheel setting is ignored and the document scrols 1 line at a time. This is very annoying when trying to read a document, especially is it is a long one.
    Is there a way to set the scroll speed in the Reader so that it matches the Windows scroll speed setting?

    None, Down, Button5, 5
    but still get an error:

    “^chromium$”
    How to make it properly, anyone?
    fixed it, just needed to remove "$" sign in “^chromium$” > “^chromium”.
    One thing is if imwheel working, you cant increase fonts in chromium with "ctrl + wheel" unfortunately.

  • Photographers:  Don't Forget To Set Your Camera Clocks Back

    With the change this weekend to Standard Time, clocks we sometimes forget to set (for those of us who prefer our "time taken" fields to be accurate) are those in our cameras.
    Do any cameras automatically make the change?  Even cheap watches do that nowadays.
    Happy shooting!

    I carry two bodies when working events, and try to keep the time coordinated between them so I can upload the files to the same folder, and sort them by time taken in Bridge.  It's a great idea, but for some reason it does not seem to work that well, and I have not been able to work out why.
    BTW  About two years ago we extended our Daylight saving period by a couple of weeks at each end, and not being an early riser, I love it.

  • Having problems with macbook pro trackpad its like it wont register where im trying to lead it to go to... and sometimes bounces around in different directions ... already turned off and changed speed setting

    not sure what else to try? and im kind of technology challenged so if any one can help with some step by step answers would greatly appreciate it.

    This is what Apple has to say about this problem.

    If the suggestions made by Apple does not help, you may have to take the MBP to the Apple store

  • Trackpad tracking speed settings changes by itself.

    Ok, this is only happening whenever I play Starcraft 2 Beta (which is what I'm currently playing on the Macbook), I use a wireless laptop mouse whenever I do so.
    I remember a while back I changed the trackpad settings a little higher because I just thought it was a little too slow in the game, but I later reverted to the default settings because I was just used to the old speed.
    Now, whenever I open up Starcraft 2 Beta and close the game, the trackpad settings get back to the high setting I had it setup before. How does this keep happening? I want to keep the default tracking speed settings.

    While in my case, I got the in-game mouse settings all set to default, mouse sensitivity is set to 50%.
    I even tried Cmd+M which minimizes the game, and within the System Preferences change the tracking speed back to the default settings. However, when I fullscreen the game again the setting goes back to high.
    I was thinking at one point to open the preferences file in the home directory for Starcraft 2 to see if there was any text file that would have any mouse settings in it and edit to default but wasn't able to find it.
    Anyone have a solution to my problem?

  • Is there a way to control the Magic Trackpad scrolling speed?

    I just got the new magic Trackpad.
    I am finding the speed of scrolling in window to be quite fast such that I it goes to far. Is there anyway to control the speed of it so it does not go to fast?
    Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

    I haven't received my MTP yet but if it works like the trackpad on my MBP you just don't flick your finger so fast. The speed is governed by how quickly you move your finger across the surface which is something I find very cool because it puts me in total control.

  • Boutique Template changing Flexslider speed setting

    Hi guys.
    Im getting to grips with the new Boutique Template which is great and Im enjoying the use of web apps and content holders, all things I told myself Id use to be more efficient with my last template but didnt use fully.
    Now they are using woothemes flexslider as a web app whci is very clever but Im finding it hard to change the speed of the slides. Ive timed them to be 9-10 seconds long so should be 9000 mili seconds but I cant find this setting in the supplied .js file.
    On the site and at the bottom of the file they list the default settings as
    slideshowSpeed: 7000,           //Integer: Set the speed of the slideshow cycling, in milliseconds
    animationSpeed: 600,            //Integer: Set the speed of animations, in milliseconds
    but when I either change this in the .js file at the bottom to a new number nothing changes.
    Also when I mved the line to the top of the file the whole slider stops working and disappears off the home page.
    ;(function ($) {
      'use strict';
      //FlexSlider: Object Instance
      $.flexslider = function(el, options) {
        var slider = $(el),
            vars = $.extend({}, $.flexslider.defaults, options),
            namespace = vars.namespace,
            touch = ("ontouchstart" in window) || window.DocumentTouch && document instanceof DocumentTouch,
            eventType = (touch) ? "touchend" : "click",
            vertical = vars.direction === "vertical",
            reverse = vars.reverse,
            carousel = (vars.itemWidth > 0),
            fade = vars.animation === "fade",
            asNav = vars.asNavFor !== "",
    slideshowSpeed: 7000,
            methods = {};
        // Store a reference to the slider object
        $.data(el, "flexslider", slider);
    so has anyone used this template and changed the slider speed.
    second has anyone found any group infor on the newish template for BC as im sure ill need more help in future and thought others would be sharing info on the new ranges of templates.
    Thanks guys.
    Dave

    Stickerannie:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you were to export the movie in QT Pro and reduce the frame rate to 15 fps, quality = high, you could reduce the size to 2.2 MB. If the quality setting was medium it would be 1.1 MB. You should try it and compare to see if the medium size would meet your image quality needs. Sure would speed up the loading.
