  • Any way through terminal setting or 3rd party app to tweak scroll direction?

I am really struggling with the settings that the OS X Lion GUI allows you for trackpad scroll direction.  Natural just seems horribly wrong for veritcal scrolling like in a webpage, but exactly right for horizontal scrolling, like swiping between desktops.  If I turn off natural scrolling, I ALWAYS accidentally swipe left toward the dashboard screen when I mean to swipe right to where I keep iTunes.  It is very frustrating.  And while I might be willing to retrain myself to vertical scroll the natural way, I could never ever ever retrain myself to mouse-wheel the opposite direction, and natural scrolling changes both the trackpad and mouse behavior--you cannot configure them separately.
Are there any other options to tweak this beyond what the GUI provides?  This is really frustrating.

I hear you.  I agree too.
At first I thought it was my iMac that was unstable or buggy after Lion's upgrade.  Was fiddling with the scroll settings for both my Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse for almost few nights... trying to understand it all, and (finally) realized it is just one generic setting!  It's like in the house you have two wall switches to the same light, and if both are at off positions, depending which one you use last, eg you turn on the 1st switch, and if you are at the 2nd one, it is at off, you need to on it first then off it, the the light will go off - crude example, but something like that.
Ya, I already put it in Lion's feedback on Apple.com, I think a lot more should do the same, so that the next update, there may be seperate settings for these.
    Cheers

  • Changing the scrolling direction for my mouse will change the scrolling direction for my trackpad

I really like the new feature "natural scrolling" with the trackpad, but when I use my mouse, the scrolling direction is reversed as well. So I tried to change the settings of my usb mouse (razer diamondback) from "natural" back to the old scrolling. Unfortunately it also changed my trackpad settings back to normal.
Is there a possibility to use my mouse scrolling the "old style" while using the "natural scrolling" with my trackpad ?

I've said a very similar thing in this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3290807?start=15&tstart=0
The thing is that someone from Nova Scotia posted a link in that thread to "Scrollreverser", and it looks like that tool can actually de-couple mouse and trackpad scrolling.
I've sent the proprietor of the app an e-mail asking if it will also work in Lion... If the answer is yes, this might do you fine...

  • Can I change the scroll direction of the trackpad without changing the scroll direction of the mouse scroll wheel?

I don't know if anyone else came across this problem, but I noticed that changing the scroll direction on the trackpad also changes the scroll direction on the mouse. I enjoy the natural movement on the trackpad, but the normal 'windows-style' movement on the mouse. Any solution?

I too have same issue. By default trackpad has natural scroll direction. However for mouse natural scroll direction causes problem, if you used to use wheel on the mouse on Windows and Linux platform. If I change the mouse's wheel direction to non-natural direction. It fixes the issue. However it changes the trackpad's direction also to be non-natural, which is not good.
Both the settings can be independent of each other. (i.e. mouse's scroll direction and trackpad's scroll direction).

  • Scrolling direction is different between iPhone and Trackpad.

Can i change the scrolling direction on the TrackPad? It is different between mobile device like iPhone and Trackpad.
    TrackPad:
To scroll down i have to move my fingers from top to bottom.
    on iPhone or iPad:
To scroll down i have to move my finger from bottom to top.
I want to use it in the same way, because it is confusing.
    Greeting Koe

You will be able to when you upgrade to Lion.  The gestures are as  you describe.

  • Adobe Flash Player and trackpad scrolling issue?

I downloaded Flash Player to my mbp yesterday so I could watch some YouTube vids but after the d/l and install my trackpad scrolling became slightly jittery and skipped every so often. It does it on anyhing that is internet related only (safari, app store, itunes store etc.) It got annoying so I uninstalled Flash Player and no more skipping. Does anyone know a fix to the scroll skipping when Flash Player is installed? Maybe a setting that can be changed in flash system prefs? I would like to have it installed but if it is going to continue to make my scrolling skip then I guess I'll have to try to live with the skipping or just flat out live without flash on my mbp. I downloaded it directly from www.adobe.com and it was the latest version. I'm running ML on a mid 2012. Also could be an issue with ML being so new that adobe hasn't caught up yet?

I have similar problems.  It does seem to correlate to Flash running in Safari.  Works fine with Google Chrome but Chrome isn't as fast on OSX.

  • How do I invert the horizontal trackpad scrolling in Dreamweaver CC code window (Mac)?

Having recently installed CC I'm enjoying all the apps so far...although Dreamweaver (which I use quite a lot) is showing unusual scrolling behaviour.
In my previous version of Creative Suite, for all apps I have a two-handed approach where I use the trackpad to navigate around the document with two fingers, while using a mouse to select the code/element etc.
I have already turned off the default 'natural' vertical scroll because it feels more intuitive to me (i.e. if I want to scroll down the page, I pull down with two fingers).
However, with this new version of Dreamweaver, it breaks convention by having reversed the left-right scroll direction, which has thrown me because it is the only app so far that goes against the norm. Previously if I wanted to see code off the right hand side of the window, I would swipe right, but now I have to swipe left. I had a look at the settings and couldn't see a way of changing this.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Yes, this issue has been fixed in DW CC 2014.1 release. Please try the same.

  • Mouse/Trackpad Scroll Options Not Independent

    I'm using 10.7 on a MacBook (late 2008 Unibody).
I am getting used to "natural" scrolling with the trackpad (slide up/page down) with Lion, and understand the reasoning behind it (to match iOS--I have an iPhone, so I'm already familiar the the slide up/page down scrolling).  However, because of the behavior of scroll wheels on many computers I encounter frequently and habit, I want to keep my scroll wheel with the traditional setup (scroll wheel down/page down).
When I go into System Preferences->Mouse and uncheck the "Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling or navigating" box, the mouse returns to traditional scrolling (down/down).  Unfortunately, my trackpad now starts behaving in the same manner (down/down), even though the "Scroll direction: natural" box in the remains checked under the Trackpad pane (it should operate up/down with that setting, but doesn't).  If I quit System Preferences and then relaunch it, the "Scroll direction: natural" box is now unchecked, even though I did nothing to it.  If I recheck it, and then immediately go to the Mouse pane, the "Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling or navigating" box remains unchecked.  However, both trackpad and the mouse now use the "natural" (up/down) scrolling, when only the trackpad should.  If I quit and relaunch System Preferences, the box in the Mouse pane is now checked, even though I did nothing to it.
It seems that the scroll preferences for the mouse and trackpad should and were meant to be separate and independent, since they each have the box under their individual panes, but they are not operating separately.  Are there any ways to fix this so I don't have to change the preferences every time I switch from the trackpad to the mouse?

  • Macbook Pro Retina Trackpad scrolls wrong way

IR and yellow screen issues aside !...
my new macbook pro retina (with Mountain Lion already installed) has an issue with scrolling. It came with 'reverse' scrolling i.e. moving your fingers down the trackpad makes the screen move upwards and vice-versa. I find this confusing so I went to the system prefs to change it. Under the 'Scroll and Zoom' tab the first option is 'Scroll direction: natural - content tracks finger movement'. This is what I wanted. But curiously, this option was already checked, and giving me the reverse scroll direction! I unchecked it, so technically I should now have the reverse direction, but then I had the natural direction?!
Ok, so it's not so much of a problem, as I can change the direction. But obviously it is the wrong way around. Just wondered if anyone else had discovered this on their MBPr and if so, can it be corrected?
    Thanks!

Un check that setting. What Apple thinks is Natural is Backwards from what every other person in the world thinks and Knows it is.

  • IPhoto scrolling direction opposite to prefs

iPhoto scrolling direction is opposite to what I have set in system preferences.  I set scroll direction to natural, iPhoto scrolls down when I scroll up.  I uncheck natural, iPhoto scrolls up when I scroll up. I haven't noticed this in any other program. I'm using an Apple trackpad.  I have a new iMac that came with Lion and iPhoto pre-installed and have applied all the updates.
    I submitted a bug report.
    Anyone else with this problem?

I know. I am trying, Really. Came to my new rMBP from Snow Leopard. . . .  I am trying to get used to it in Safari, but scrolling directions in Final Cut, Photoshop . . .oh man...nope. Its not going to work....
There is an app called Better Touch Tool, but I am just not getting it ;-(

  • Lion causes Magic Trackpad scrolling to reverse?

Recent upgrade to Lion has caused the up/down scrolling on the Magic Trackpad to reverse...  Two finger up movement scrolls down on screen, and two finger down movement scrolls up on screen....?????  Opposite to when Snow Leopard was loaded and opposite to trackpad visual cues in System Preferences.

    Yes! I noticed that, too!
You can switch it back to the trackpad behavior you're familiar with in the Trackpad preferences in System Preferences.
Just uncheck the first, top-most box, "Scroll direction: natural - Content tracks finger movement."

  • System Settings will not save my desired mouse scroll direction

I understand the Apple genius of wanting the Settings: Mouse: Scroll direction: Natural box to be checked.  But **** it, this is MY iMac and I want the scroll direction to remain Unchecked, so the screen scrolls in the direction I’ve been used to for YEARS.
The problem is the System Settings will not save the unchecked scroll box.  I have to return to the System Settings every time I log on to UN check the Scroll Direction: Natural box.
Will Apple ever fix this so that I, and others, can operate the scrolling as THEIR LONG-TIME USER sees fit?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
