Trackpad stuck in "click" position

I came back to my Macbook Pro (13" mid-2012) with the mouse part of the trackpad stuck in the "click" position. It's not currently clicking/dragging anything, but I am unable to use the trackpad like normal; instead I have to tap the pad. Nothing was spilled on it, and there is no debris stuck in the crack. Unfortunately I'm in a country far from an Genius Bars- is there anything I can do to fix it? Thanks!

Problem eventually gets worse after lengthy usage. I'm noticing that the system is also hot when it gets like this. After putting it to sleep for a bit and coming back it wirks fine again. Overheating seems to be a likely cause and I'm sad to think about leaving my machine with Apple for however long it takes to fix it. Seems that I have little choice, especially after reading the many posts here about similar trackpad issues.
Quality control feels like it's slipping at Apple.

  • Trackpad stuck/not clicking

    I have a 2010 MacBook Pro. The trackpad seems to be stuck. I cannot click the left side. It won't even make a clicking noise. The right side does make a clicking noise. Not sure how to fix this... I've been reading about people saying the battery tends to get big sometimes.  So I am including the battery information cause I'm not sure how to tell if that's what's causing my trackpad to not click

  • MBP 2010 trackpad stuck

    Hi there
    an hour ago I was playing GTA SA with  parralels on my 2010 Macbook Pro (bought in Feb 2011) which also has applecare... everything is fine
    all of a sudden, the button does not click!!!! I feels as if it is stuck in the clicked position!!!!
    I live in India, but I am currently in Poland. To the best of my knowledge, the closest AASP (that I know of) is over 400km away. I do not have the original MBP box, or anything to ship it safely in....... I also dont want to be without the computer for long...
    What to do? it feels mechanical... justs refuses to click..
    please help!!!

    Hi G,
    Try "massaging" it all around, pressing down on it and moving your fingers around all over it while continuing to press down on it. If no luck, use an external mouse until you can get to an Apple Store or AASP.

  • Cursor issues, stuck on click and drag mode.

    My cursor is stuck on click and drag mode.I assumed issue was faulty track pad. Purchased a magic mouse, and initially it was fine then the same issues started occurring. Is this a virus? Ran disk repair and permissions repair , no change.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    Hi Rhondavas77,
    To enable/disable Just-In-Time debugging
    On the Tools menu, click Options.
    In the Options dialog box, select the Debugging folder.
    In the Debugging folder, select the Just-In-Time page.
    In the Enable Just-In-Time debugging of these types of code box, select or clear the relevant program types:
    Managed, Native, or Script.
    To disable Just-In-Time debugging, once it has been enabled, you must be running with Administrator privileges. Enabling Just-In-Time debugging sets a registry key, and Administrator privileges are required to change that key.
    Click OK.

  • Why trackpad generates 'fake' clicks when lid is closed on Windows 8?

    Hi everyone,
    I'm experiencing a pretty weired behavior by the trackpad - when the lid is closed, the trackpad generates fake clicks. I'm using an external mouse and suddenly getting right-clicks and things like that. As soon as I open the lid it all stops. I tried to clean the trackpad and the area of the display covering it when the lid is closed, thinking that something maybe confusing the pad, but it didn't really changed anything.
    Thanks

    To back to the normal scale you have to disable the parallax.
    Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Reduce Motion (turn off)
    You won't be able to put the wallpepr out of frame as ios 6 (earlier), but it stop to putting the annoying zoom.

  • The trackpad isn't clicking?

    Well my trackpad isn't clicking. I can drag. But can't click. I even used the mouse and still no clicking. When I realized my trackpad's button was broken. But why isn't the mouse working. I used 2 different mouse. Please help.

    Ok, good to know. Backing up will be easy cause I've only got about 40GB of files and a 1TB external hard drive.

  • Cannot disable trackpad 'touch to click'

    Last week I installed the latest updates for my OS X Leopard Macbook (ver 10.5.8). Since then, my trackpad has been hyper sensitive and is constantly highlighting things and dragging things around when I'm just using it to scroll the cursor. I've gone into Preferences-->Trackpad and disabled "Clicking" and even "Secondary Clicking," but the problem hasn't gone away at all. It wasn't a problem at all until I downloaded those updates.
    I've searched the forums for an answer to this problem but couldn't find any other than 'take it to an Apple store.' Does anyone have any thoughts about what I could try? Thanks.

    iwebdrivingmecrazy wrote:
    I have checked for updates and it says everything is up to date. I just bought it from the apple store yesterday, so I would think once it installed, it would be all good, but not so much.
    The touch to click doesn't work on the magic trackpad at all.
    Are you saying that your prefences for the Magic trackpad shows all the 4 touch gestures? Mine only shows 3 finger gestures. Even under all the demonstrations for the additional gestures, it shows demos of 3 finger gestures only.
    What am I missing?
    Did you check for updates while the MT was connected?
    My Trackpad Prefs show 2 options under Four Finger.
    I dunno that you're missing anything, but something doesn't sound right. Try clicking on the button "Set up BT trackpad" in Trackpad prefs.
    If no luck, open BT prefs and remove MT. Restart MBP and add it again.

  • My trackpad has stopped clicking

    I have an older macbook I believe. I thas a solid bottom  and is white with white keys. My trackpad has stopped clicking. I can move the mouse but I cannot click on anything. I have tried plugging in an  external mouse and I have the same issue. I am not a computer expert so I have no idea where to go from here. Please help. Thanks.

    When you say that it has a solid bottom I take that to be a uni body MacBook with a battery that you don't remove. Try resetting the SMC
    Newer Mac portables with a battery you don't remove
    Shut down the computer.
    Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Determine mouse click position on jps page

    hi ........ i'm developing registration web application using Jsp and want to determine the user mouse click position on frame.......... how can i do it using jps

    I used to have a lengthy JSP page, which has lot of list boxes. When I click one list box, the other list box value is depend on the previous one. so, I post the form and when I come back it used to scroll at the top. I used to below code to resolve it. I called scrollingPos() fn in list boxes onchange event.
         function scrollingPos(){
              //store the scrolling position in the hidden (whichpos)
              var mypos = 0;
              mypos = document.body.scrollTop;
              document.forms[0].whichpos.value = mypos;
         function gohere() {
              //while loading form, get the 'whichpos' value from the server and pass to scrollTo
              var thispos = '<%= scrollpos %>';
              window.scrollTo(0,thispos);
              thispos = 0;
    <html:hidden name="mainForm" property="whichpos"/>

  • The Trackpad does not clicking

    hi everyone my Trackpad doesn't clicking but the touch is working any idea
    my regards

    You may have a swollen battery, which is below the trackpad and puts pressure on it from underneath. If you are comfortable in opening up the bottom enclosure (if your model has builtin battery), you can examine the battery for yourself.
