Transferring to a replacement S4

Only 4 questions
My old LCD screen is broken;  black but power to the phone still works.  How can I do a hard reset on the old phone if I cannot see the screen?
I moved the SIM card from the old phone to the new phone but my pictures didn't transfer to my new phone?
Only place I had my gmail address was on my old phone; any other way I can find it?  Google's website has not helped after trying all day
The settings for my Hotmail account do not have an option to show more messages, but the option is there for my Comcast email account?  Need to show whole inbox for my hotmail

Hi sts123,
I'm sorry to learn of the broken screen issue outlined in your post! Not being able to see activity on the screen makes it impossible to perform any action on your phone with any certainty, we are not able to provide options to do a hard reset in this case.
<< Moderator note - the SIM card does not contain photos.  Photos would be on an SD or micro SD card if you had one and saved the photos to the card.  The following paragraph has been edited for accuracy. >> The pictures from your SIM SD card may be located in a folder that your new device is not able to access for some reason, please connect your device to a computer via a data cable or a SIM SD card adapter to view the contents of the SIM  SD card on your computer to confirm that your pictures are there. Most likely you simply have to move them to a different folder accessible by your new device. • Transferred activation, before replacing Failing Disk,

we had to use a tombstone backup to prevent corruption from propogating to new Disk
the problem is the only good backup image available had an activated install of both AA2 and AA3
the last time I had to do that was on another system
and I was presented with a "repair activation" window
now on this system I get a full activation window for both AA2 and AA3 which doesn't function on either
normally when I change a disk
    I transfer the activations first
then take the image and restore to the new disk the unactivated product
    this normally works
but we had no choice in this matter as the disk was just about fried
would uninstalling and reinstalling allow the activations to proceed?

"the activation process doesn't just look at the disk but the motherboard too... and it's sneaky"
in most instances this would be considered a ROOTKIT
    Un-install - Re-install doesn't work
    I didn't change the MB
    I didn't change the processors
I didn't change the video card
    I didn't change the NIC
I didn't change the sound card
    I didn't change the OS
    only the FRIED HDD
at my home Office I use Symantec Backup Exec
at the company Office Acronis is used
a full restore at my house to another disk gives a "repair activation" window
a full restore to the same disk gives no change in activation status
a full restore to the same disk at the company office gives no change in activation status
a full restore to a replacement disk doesn't give the repair activation window
    rather gives the following
    "activation information is invalid"
(which occurs when launching previously installed product recovered from backup image)
    then after uninstall re-install sequence
    "yer 30 days is up"
and the following dialog is presented when attempting activation in either case of new HDD
here's the dialog I get when trying to activate after restore to new disk
before uninstall and after uninstall - reinstall procedure:
internet connection not detected is a lie because I just posted this from the system in question

  • Should I replace an iPad Air 2 of which the frame has been bent?

My 64GB/Cellular iPad Air 2 is about two months old. I'm very careful with it. It has been in an Apple SmartCase from day 1.
A few days ago, I noticed the area around the front-facing camera was slightly (perhaps a few millimeters) protruding out of the SmartCase. In just that area, it looked as though the top-half of the frame was becoming separated from the bottom-half of the frame. I could press the frame down but it immediately protruded again. I figured the adhesive had failed, resulting in the separation. There are no other apparent issues, not even with the screen.
A staff member at the Genius Bar of my local Apple Store took the device out of the SmartCase and proceeded to show me that the back of the case was sightly bent, only at the top. The staff member told me this was not a warranty issue and that my only options were to live with it or to have it replaced, out of warranty ($$$). As a courtesy, the staff member immediately ordered an out of warranty replacement. I'm at a loss as to how this happened, especially since the case was not (and still is not) bent in the slightest; the staff member said is entirely possible with the SmartCase. The only thing I can figure is that the SmartCase and the device experienced minor stress while in in my travel bag--enough to bend just the device.
Upon returning home, I exerted slight pressure on the frame such that it now looks completely straight, resulting in the apparent elimination of the separation. If I didn't know better, I wouldn't think anything was amiss.
My SquareTrade insurance policy covers replacement of the device, with no deductible. The remaining ten months of the manufacturer's warranty would be transferred to the replacement device. The staff member told me the replacement device has never been used; yet it's presumably not "new". Is it likely that the integrity of my original device has been weakened such that I should go ahead and replace it?

If you're going to get a 'free' replacement...as in with square trade, I say go for it. In the future, let's say you have issues, any signs of visible damage can be a reason to decline coverage under the warranty, even if that damage has nothing to do with the malfunction.
also, if the seal is broken its' possible that dust and moisture can get into the guts of the iPad, possibly causing future issues

As already provided, iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone which includes data such as most iPhone setting, email account settings, SMS messages, notes, recent calls, call favorites, contact info, 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app, and photos available in your iPhone's Camera Roll.
In regards to contact info, the iPhone is designed to be synced with the supported application on your computer. With Vista, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007, or with the address book used by Windows Mail - the name change for Outlook Express with Vista. This address book is called Windows Contacts.
All iTunes content and photos transferred from your computer should remain on your computer and must be re-transferred to a replacement iPhone. If you don't have Outlook 2003 or 2007 available, you will lost calendar events available on your iPhone.
I suggest doing the following before sending your iPhone in for repair or exchange under warranty.
Import any photos available in your iPhone's Camera Roll by your computer. If you aren't syncing contact info and calendar events with a supported application on your computer, do so. When syncing, your iPhone's backup will be updated as the very first step during the sync process.
After you have done these steps - importing photos available in your iPhone's Camera Roll and syncing at least contact info with the supported application on your computer - you have Windows Contact available for this purpose, along with the sync process updating your iPhone's backup with iTunes, immediately before placing your iPhone in the box, go to Settings > General > Reset, and select Erase All Content and Settings. This is a secure erase option erasing all content and settings from your iPhone since your iPhone returned will likely not be returned to you and will end up becoming a refurbished iPhone.

  • Set parameters values depending on other parameters

Is it possible in the Bex to have a parameter to be used to load data from another infoprovider (then the one of the actual query) in order to populate a select-option in the query ?
    - a Customer exit variable seems to be able to only change its own values. It have no access to the other variable and parameters ?
    - Replacement path seems to only be based on kind of "hard coded and unchangeable" selections.
So how to do that ?
I also think to use RRI by doing a 1st query but I wonder if all the result of the 1st query (lets say all the orders numbers) could be transfered into the orders select-option of a 2nd query ?

    Hi Siegfried
    >But you can create a variable with replacement path and
    >assign a query (with selections) to it in order to populate
    >the select list for your query by another query.
Yes but could I have control on the selections of the replacement path query and fill them in real time ?
I mean could my main query (the user lauching it) cascade its selection to the replacement path query ?
    For example :
Let say that I want only orders that have a particular texts in description. The description lines are not in my main query infoprovider.
So could I have a parameter, let say "description contains word:" which could be transfered to the replacement path query in charge of selecting all the orders with the word in text ?
From what I understand atm of the replacement query the selections seems to be "statics".

  • Having trouble installing Backup Assistant

First, yes its an old phone, the venerable LG-V8300. When I attempt to install BA  I get an error of "Unable to Retreive Catalog". Verizon CS says that this has been a problem for about 3 weeks and does not know when, if ever, it will be available.
I can get my contacts transferred to my replacement phone, but does anyone know if the BA will be available again?
    Jim

    Hello chronos56,
May I ask when was the last time this LG 8300 was actively used on the device? Devices that wasn't active and did not open the Media Center catalog prior to March 25, 2011 will no longer be able to access the Media Center. This is because the devices required an update to the software certification in order to retain access to the Media Center catalog. This time window to update the certificate has expired on 3/25/11. If this is the case, then a contact transfer would need to be done at a corporate store.
    Hope this helps...

  • Applecare auto transfer

they replaced defective Ipod classic with refurb that's gone bad but, applecare wasn't auto transferred to refurbed replacement.
Now, none of s/n match anything! The s/n internally doesn't even match the engraved s/n.
Gotta find the original receipt if possible from 12/07
This is the wackiest thing I've ever seen

    stage4survivor wrote:
Ipods are apparently only replaced by refurbs, not repaired. Very suspicious different warranty for replacements vs buying a refurb.
Not suspicious at all. That's what I was trying to explain. If every refurb replacement came with a one year warranty, you could, conceivably, keep extending your warranty. That would hardly be cost effective for Apple. As I said, it's a policy issue, not related to the quality of the refurb.
And, where do you think refurbs come from? They're repaired items. When you send your iPod in for warranty service, Apple verifies the problem then notifies the shipper (DHL, I think) to send out a refurbed unit. This means your turn around time is about seven days. Apple then repairs and refurbs your original unit which could take longer than seven days and puts it back into the system. Very early in the product life, the warranty replacement units are probably brand new items. Returned units probably also go into the system.
    Best of luck.

  • How do i backup everything on my iphone 4

i am a new iphone user and my new phone is defective.  how can i backup everything that i have created and saved on my verizon iphone?  i am transferring to a replacement iphone.  i have read way too many support pages that clearly fail to properly address this issue.  and please dont mention anything related to itunes sync as it doesn't save many things.  i need to backup my call log, text messages, to do lists created with 3rd party apps, facebook settings, photos (they disappeared when i did a restore, luckily i did a manual backup of those), microsoft exchange settings, favorite contacts, the arrangement of my apps, and a great many other things.
    many thanks in advance

Just sync your phone before you get your replacement. First thing done when you perform a sync is an iPhone backup. Read here to find out what's included in that backup:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
The rest of your content should be on your computer: Apps, Music, etc.
Then, when you get your replacement phone, follow the directions here:

  • Wait to register Applecare?

I just bought an Applecare Plan for my one month old 20" iMac Core2Duo and I'm trying to decide whether to enroll it now or wait. Here's my reason for waiting.
Let's say I enroll it now and in in 6 months I have a problem with the iMac which would require replacement of the iMac and which would be covered under the original one year warranty. In that case, my Applecare could be transferred to my replacement which would then have only 2.5 years Applecare coverage (the original 3 yr, minus the 6 months already used).
On the other hand, if I wait to enroll until anytime up to month 12, then I would still have a brand new unenrolled Applecare Plan to use on the replacement iMac, again waiting until anytime within the first year.
For the sake of this discussion, let's disregard the 90 days phone support, and just consider the actual warranty. Is there something I'm not thinking of or is this not a valid reason to wait?

The language is very straight forward, not the usual legal doubletalk associated with many warranties. (emphasis mine)
    Warranty Coverage
Apple's warranty obligations are limited to the terms set forth below:
Apple, as defined below, warrants this Apple-branded hardware product against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of retail purchase by the original end-user purchaser ("Warranty Period"). If a hardware defect arises and a valid claim is received within the Warranty Period, at its option, Apple will either (1) repair the hardware defect at no charge, using new or refurbished replacement parts, or (2) exchange the product with a product that is new or which has been manufactured from new or serviceable used parts and is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or (3) refund the purchase price of the product. Apple may request that you replace defective parts with new or refurbished user-installable parts that Apple provides in fulfillment of its warranty obligation. A replacement product or part, including a user-installable part that has been installed in accordance with instructions provided by Apple, assumes the remaining warranty of the original product or ninety (90) days from the date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer coverage for you. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes your property and the replaced item becomes Apple's property. Parts provided by Apple in fulfillment of its warranty obligation must be used in products for which warranty service is claimed. When a refund is given, the product for which the refund is provided must be returned to Apple and becomes Apple's property.

  • Camera roll gone

SSince updating to iOS 8 my camera roll is gone. It gad 1500+ images. It's now showing me the most recent 350 photos. I don't use albums/dates/times. How can I get this back, or how do I get all images in one folder without clicking on photos and then moments.

Photos in the Camera Roll should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Everything is not "linked" to your PC in this regard. Importing photos from the Camera Roll is done manually as when importing photos from any other digital camera.
Photos in the Camera Roll are included with your iPhone's backup which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process as well as 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app. This data should be included with your iPhone's backup unless there is a problem with the backup.
When you connected your new iPhone to iTunes on your computer the first time, were you prompted to transfer the backup for your previous iPhone to your new iPhone? If so, was the backup for your previous iPhone transferred to your replacement iPhone?

  • Merging Sim card contact list from old phone with Outlook contact list

iPhone synched with Outlook Contacts during iTunes activation, subsequently transferred old phone contact list from SIM card to iPhone. I want to merge the two files, but synching operation tells me that transferred items will replace existing Outlook Contact list. Not what I want - - How can I merge the two files?

I don't use Windows but the following states that it will sync contacts with Outlook on Windows 8 via iCloud. You will need to go to Settings > iCloud on the phone at turn Contacts on and also download the iCoud control panel to your computer as described in http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/pc.html

  • DOA iMac - Apple "Lack of" Care

My 24" 2.8 GHz iMac arrived on Wed 8/22. I was disappointed to find that it had a malfunctioning fan and Tech Support deemed it DOA and needed to be returned. I was informed that shipping labels would be overnighted to me. Apple would not send a replacement until the original was returned.
    Two days later....no labels.
Another call to technical support...20 minutes on hold and then a helpful guy who says he'll call Returns directly and solve my problem (no useful info had been recorded in my case file). He calls me back later and says HE CANNOT GET THROUGH TO ANYONE IN RETURNS but has "escalated" my issue via e-mail. What a joke.
Apple seems content to hang on to my money (maybe I should ask for interest?!?!), but meanwhile I have no indication of when I'll receive a working unit and no way of contacting anyone with the ability or willingness to do something about it.
Any suggestions for cutting through the red tape?

Unfortunately, not all machines will arrive in perfect working order, some do get rough handling during transit. This is true of all makes not just Apple.
However, from my own personal experiences of Apple Customer Care, the treatment end users recieve from Apple is awful. I recently had 2 replacement Mac Pro's sent out the first of of which was damaged in transit. While I did eventually recieve a replacement unit, it took over 8 months for Apple to decide my original unit was beyond help and agreed to a replacement being sent out.
During the 8 months, the original unit was not useable and so was packed back up awaiting a solution (fortunately I had a trusted PowerMac G5 Quad to use as a back up so I was able to get some work done but did however build up quite a backlog of work and eventually had to turn work down in an attempt to ease the amount of backlog. The work I had to decline cost me several thousands of pounds in lost income which Apple gave no consideration to or compensation for.
I purchased the extended warranty which Apple transferred to the replacement machine but decided to dock the original 8 months from the warranty period. Hardly good customer relations. Apple agreed the original machine was in effect a lemon and agreed it could not be used yet the penalised the replacement machine from having the full 3 year warranty period.
After this episode and experience, having had to fight to get anywhere with technical support, eventually I escalated the problem to their Executive Relations Deprtment, 8 months on I get a solution which should have been offered immediately. Not happy. Apple just adding insult to injury.
The replacement Mac Pro has so far worked without issue and is a joy to use, unfortunately Apple's after care leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. They really do need to get it sorted out.
When it is time to replace my current network of systems, in light of my experience with Apple since the Intel switch, I doubt I will be replacing any system with another Mac. I will have no choice but to switch back to Windows based systems unless Apple really get their game and build quality back on top form. OS X is a joy to use, I just wish the machines Apple provide to run this platform on were up to the same high standard as the OS.
Hardly as Apple state on their web site "absolutely flawless integration of hardware and software", "Macs just work". The jury is still out on that.
This is not an Apple hate post, just an honest post from an Apple customer sharing my experience with Apple so far. I have to admit when I was using PowerPC based machines I only ever had one need to call tech support and the problem was sorted out pretty quickly, however since I swapped to Intel based machines, the need to contact Customer Care has been increased significantly and the over all quality of the machines I have received has been poor.
Keep at it if you are unhappy, escalate the problem to Executive Relations if need be and when you do get your replacement machine I hope it is a better experience all round for you.

    Hi,
I notice that you still have not supplied a part number for the Lenovo hard disk. Selectively answering question does not help you and I arrive at a resolution. Please answer every reasonable question that is put to you regarding  issue and hardware.
Was the hard disk you purchased a SATA (1.5 GB\s), SATA (3.0 GB\s) or SATA (6.0 GB\s) hard disk? you should have purchased SATA 1.5 GB/s hard disk for better compatibility.
There should be a drive caddy that was attached to the original drive. With all SATA drives there are two connectors used. One is for power and the other is for data transfer.
The following images  are for your notebook series
Gently remove and inspect where the hard disk connects to the notebook's SATA port. There should be a wide connector that has both data and power connections. That is the general case with most brands of modern notebooks. With HP's notebooks, there is sometimes an adapter connected to originalthe hard disk that must be transferred to a replacement hard drive before reinstalling it in the notebook. That could be the case with yours.
HDD manufacturers suply different accessories with new hard disks. Some supply cloning software and others supply downloadable hard disk preparation software to create partitions and format them. There is a possibility that software ids available online at the manufacturer's website.  I will look at your earlier post and check at the manufacturers website.
    Best regards,

  • No purchased ringtones from iPhone in iTunes on computer and/ or on iPhone?

I purchased all the ringtones from the iTunes Store on my IPhone 4S using OS 5.1.0. Then the update came from Sprint and Apple and as usual I reset the phone before I updated to OS 5.1.1. I was able to redownload and install the apps I wanted (I never reinstall all the apps I have bought when I reset and update the phone) and I was able to redownload all the music I bought but all the ringtones that I bought are gone and could not be found anywhere to be redownloaded. I went on my computer with Windows 7 as OS and iTunes version 10.6.1.7 and ringtones were not in the "Tones" section of the "Library" or "My iPhone 4S". They also were not in the "Purchased" section of the "Store".
I tried going to one of the ringtones I bought in the iTunes Store on my iPhone 4S and I got the message that I already had purchased the tone earlier on and if I wanted to repurchase it. I tried that and I got charged again and then that one ringtone showed up as a ringtone in my ringtones settings on the phone. It did not show up anywhere in my iTunes on my computer. Since I bought about 50 ringtones I am not very interested to get recharged for all of them to get them back on my phone.
I tried downloading all previously purchased items in my iTunes and all the ringtones including the one I re-bought were not available.
This is truly frustrating to me and I would like my purchased ringtones back on my phone, could anyone help me please? Already sent in a support ticket to Apple, anyone else going through this mess?
Thank you so much if anyone could and would help me with this matter.

Can someone please help? I have this same problem except ONE of my 10 ringtones transferred when apple replaced my iphone 4s with a new one. One of my friends is also having this same problem

  • BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. I WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED.

I was at the store location at 87th and the Dan Ryan to have data transferred to my replacement phone. The employee ( Harold) did try to transfer data to my replacement phone, but was not successful. I had no problem with that. However, he instructed me to contact tech support and provided me with a phone number to contact. Here is my question? If I am in a service center should the employee who is serving the CUSTOMER DO THAT. I believe that when it comes to the customer that everything should be done on behalf of Verizon to satisfy that customer. For me to leave the store to contact tech support  myself, was a TOTAL INCONVENIENCE TO ME AS A VALUED VERIZON CUSTOMER. In the future, can service from your associates at this location take the extra step in assuring customer satisfaction to the customer.
