Transparency in movies

Anyone know how to make the background transparent in movies on iWeb?

Well, what's the settings in the Avid? By default it will invert the Alpha, you may need to invert it in the Alpha key's settings by ways of the effect editor. Also make sure to choose the Alpha in the first place. If it's not been selected on import in the options, it will never appear once the system has converted the clip.

  • No transparency in my Quicktime movies in AE CS3 -- help

I'm rendering a set of animated captions on a transparent background. I need to drop them over existing video, so I need to maintain their transparency. I am, rendering them as QT movies, as animation, RGB+Alpha, millions + colors, straight: Unmultiplied. I can render a png sequence and hold the transparency, but I cannot get a quicktime movie to stay transparent. I get a black background. Can the Avid import the Quick time and key out the black? Am I doing something wrong. Importing the PNG sequence takes forever -- I have to ftp it across town and it toook an hour just to load onto the ftp site! Is rendering out to PNG sequences my only option. Why am I unable to get a transparent qt movie? ARGGGHHH!! I read on here that re-loading Quicktime might help? Has that worked for anyone? Is that the trouble? Anyone? Help?

    Moving on...
At my company, we create images, animations, video backgrounds and templates for PowerPoint and Keynote etc.  Keynote '09 (iwork '09) and PowerPoint 2008 and 2011 on the Mac, all work.  Now we're hearing that the transparent backgrounds are no longer being recognized (black background instead of clear).  Is anyone able to check this for me and let me know if there is a workaround or something? I can't find any documentation on how Quicktime changed with Maverick or Keynote 6, so need to do real world testing I'm only running '09 on my Mac and won't have Keynote 6 for another 2 weeks or so.
Please let me know, I may be able to throw in a free subscription to our website for someone who can help me with this.

Hello all... I'm maybe a little late to the party here, but I've had the same trouble for a while with both animated Transparent gifs and quicktime movies with an alpha channel matte.
This morning I spent half an hour tinkering with the export options from quicktime player pro on my old laptop (I used QT 7.6.6 on OSX 10.8.5) and managed to make a "transparent" quicktime movie which plays in the new version of Keynote.
If you have access to the old version of quicktime player pro, you can open your transparent, previously playable file (.gif or .movie) and use the ProRes compressor, using the "4444" option in the list of compressors. Make sure the colours are set to "millions+" to retain the matte and you shoud be OK.
It works a charm... you have to re-import it, simply replacing the original file in the finder seemingly doesn't work, but you can use this method to generate a working version and take 30 seconds to re-import it into the keynote.
Yes, the files are much larger than gifs. Yes it's a lot of messing around if you're not familiar with movies. But in principle it worked for me and sorted out a whole heap of my problems.
Just for note, I've not tried exporting it to Powerpoint as I've no need to do so, or way to test it, but I guess that is a different matter.
    Hope that makes sense!

  • Can you export keynote to be transparent?

    hey guys,
new to the program. I'm trying to bring in a presentation into a site I built.
My nav bar keeps hiding behind it. I was curious if anyone had experience with getting it to almost act as a transparent flash movie. I've tried flash and .mov files, both hide my nav bar.

I'm just starting to look around the forums for this question, so I haven't fully searched to be sure this hasn't been answered elsewhere....but, I wanted to chime in here because the original poster is bringing up an important issue that's only partially addressed by the video export issue.
I just took the plunge with Keynote 6, after producing dozens of podcast "lectures" for university courses over the past few years in Keynote 5, and am worried that the control over export to video that the user used to have in Keynote 5 is now lost. The real issue for me with video export of a narrated presentation was never the video quality/resolution. Rather, it was audio and its impact on file size. Experimenting with the same narrated presentation in the fall, I realized that changing the video/resolution didn't make much difference in the final .mov file size. Audio, however, made huge difference, on the order of 10 times smaller! Specifically, shifting the audio output (under the "custom" menu under "Quicktime Formats") from "Linear PCM" over to "AAC" (for instance) dropped the MB of file size per minute of recording from 16 down to 1.6.
So far as I can tell, there is no longer that level of granularity in controlling Quicktime export. Do you think I'm correct in that? Or, am I missing something here?

  • How do I make a background transparent?

I'm a total newcomer to Photoshop - I'm learning to use it in school. For my current project, I have an image of a galaxy on a black background. I need to make it seem like the galaxy is in front of another object. So what I thought was:
    - Make the black part of the galaxy transparent.
    - Move the galaxy over the other object.
How do I do this? Is it even possible?

Grant offers valid advice if you are still in the early stages of your acquaintance with Photoshop.
Are the stars basically white or do they appear colorful?
If white I suppose the »easiest« way would be to
    • load the transparency by command-clicking the compopsite channel in the Channels Panel
    • Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color and select white in the Color Picker
    • add a black Solid Color Layer behind that as background to hide the original image and insert your other image between the two Solid Color Layers (File > Place or drag it from the Layers Panel onto the canvas).
But likely the image will be more complex than that.
    Still you could start by
    • loading the channel with the best contrast as a Selection by command clicking it in the Channels Panel
    • apply that as a Layer Mask to the image (if it is a Background Layer just double-click it)
    • alt-click the Layer Mask in the Channels Panel to view the Mask alone
    • invoke Image > Adjustmenst > Curves or Levels and use that dialog to increase the contrast so that the non-galaxy-parts are black
    • insert the other image below that
This may when superimposed on the new image have grayish, dark edges, though.
To adress that you could try using the Refine Edge-dialog Decontaminate feature or paint on a separate Clipping Masked Layer.
    Other options might be to
    • set the Layer itself to Blend Mode Screen or
    • set a duplicate below the Layer to Blend Mode Screen and mask the higher one tighter
But unless you post the two images in question (or lores thereof) it’s pretty much impossible to say what the best course of action might be.

  • Embedding Transparent Flash on webpages

Put simply, we're running into problems with embedding a
partially transparent Flash movie on a page that, when activated,
rolls open and displays more content. In Firefox browsers. the
transparent area will not allow users to click on HREF links below
it. In IE, the flash content appears below browser-generated
    pulldown boxes.
This swf is embedded in a div, and uses a javascript
workaround to bypass the ActiveX issues in IE, but otherwise, it's
a fairly standard animation with no complex
There are lots of instances of people airing this issue

code-based workarounds, it would be a big help.

Sadly, that's because there ARE no fixes. wmode="transparent"
    is and always
has been buggy as all hell. Especially in non I.E browsers.

  • How do I fix this layer

I have a layer with a transparent swf movie on this page but
when the page/browser is resized the layer does not move to stay in
the same position on the page. It doesn't move at all. I want the
layer with the swf to stay in the same position and move with the
    rest of the page.
    How do I fix it?

  • Help: Slow Performance in Captivate 2

I have a new computer running XP Pro SP3 with a fast
    processor and 4GB memory.
I am editing a CP movie with 70 slides.
When moving from slide to slide, it takes 3-5 seconds for the
selected slide to appear. During this time, Task Manager says CP is
    sucking up 50-70% of CPU.
While ediiting a slide, selecting and editing any object has
similar results: CP goes away for several seconds during which time
    no editing is possible.
As an experiment, I created a new movie then imported the old
movie into it. Same result: sluggish operation.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA!

Transparency like this can tax some systems. I ran into a
    similar problem
years ago authoring in an application that has transparent
    Flash movies and
transparent png files on the same screen. Only slowed down
    one machine.
Updating the graphic card drivers fixed it. You can test for
    this by dialing
    down graphic hardware acceleration.

  • How to change names of an Boolean array in a which has been placed in a cluster?

    Hi guys,
for my program i need to initialize which tests are in a testblock. Each test is settable with a Booelan button to enable the test, or disable it.
I have actually 22 testblocks containg over 400 tests. What i would like to do is to make 1 array  with Boolean buttons. So, if you're exploring the testblocks, the labels of this buttons must contain the test names. How can i make a program so the testnames will be automatically transferred to the label of the Boolean buttons? (My array of buttons is placed in a cluster, because i have more data to store about the tests..)
    thanx for your help.

    Hi btwesseli...,
in an array all elements have the same properties. So you cannot make the labels/captions or whatever different for those booleans.
    But:
You can overlay an string over the boolean button. Make a string indicator your cluster, make this string transparent and move it over the boolean. Now you can have a
'label' over the boolean containing the name of the test.

  • Spry overlapping issue

I am using a few different spry menus on my webpage along
with using a css flyout called p7express. When the flyout is active
the spry overlaps it. Is there a way to set the spry to be
    transparent or move behind?
This is what it looks like
    http://momentumadvertising.com/images/spryissue.jpg

I am assuming that you have built your page with css, and so
from my limited understanding of divs and css layouts, you should
be able to control level at which each layer appears with the z
index attribute of css. Or, I have found that the order in which I
place divs on the page has a dramitic effect on overlaps. The first
div in the code goes to the bottom of the pile, and the last goes
    to the top.
Anybody, please correct me if I am wrong.

  • Repeating background jpg image

I have my swf file embed into an html page and currenly have
the background set to #000000. I want to change this to a jpg image
that repeats for the entire background. I want the swf file to
appear with a transparent background so the repeating image shows
    through.
I have searched forums, but nothing seems to work for me. The
jpg image will be name "back.jpg" and is going to be located in the
same folder as the swf and html files.

I finally found this tech note on making the flash movie with
a transparent background. If anyone needs this info.
    Transparent

Then, all I needed to do was set html background image to my
jpg file, and it worked fine.

  • Set keyframe params in a script

I'm more of a coder than a drag/dropper.  I have a simple box that I'd like make grow from its top left corner.  That part is simple with keyframes and the timeline, no big deal.  I'd like to adjust where that top left corner is though based on where the user clicks on the screen, so instead of having separate boxes or separate animations and such I'd like to simply have the onclick event of some transparent shapes move the X,Y position  of the box itself.  I can then do a play() on my animation.  I'm sure there's a way, I think the X,Y is just a left, top in CSS, just not sure how to get at it for my box.
    Thanks.

Hoping to track this down and hoping someone who is deep enough into the coding will jump in and give an answer.
It seems, from looking at the JS, what I really want to be able to do is modify the top/left but also the fromValue on the timeline itself.  I'm going to have a bunch of buttons and I want the box to grow from the button that's clicked, then shrink back to the same button.  Instead of having a whole pile of keyframes and grow animations and shrink animations and labels, I want one grow animation and one shrink and a label for each, and I'd like to just change these values in the script based on which button is clicked.
    Thanks.

  • Achieving  a specific effect.

Hi, it's been awhile since I've done any flash animation and I'm trying to acheive a certain masking effect. Can anyone give me a few tips on how to create something similar to the FESSparkle effect on this page (middle one)
    http://www.flasheff.com/patternsshowcase/search.html?tags=particle
I know I'm going to have to use a mask to do this, my question is really more about getting the right glow effect on the sparkles. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -Greg

For the sparkles, you'll need nested movieclips. Lowest level will be only the gradient circle. On top of that, it can slightly change opacity up and down. On top of that it can move here and there. And on top of that it canmove along some curved guide. Start as small transparent sparkle, move a bit here and there and then vanish.
In each level you can put randomizing code at first frame:
    gotoAndPlay(Math.floor(1 + totalFrames * Math.random()));
and on the last frame this code to ensure your randomization runs only once:
    gotoAndPlay(2);
And in the topmost sparkle level you don't want to jump in the timeline, just randomize rotation of sparkles:
    rotation = 360 * Math.random();
If you experience any CPU problems, try decreasing number of sparkle levels, making movement more simple.

  • Make White Background of Movie Clip Transparent

I have a .mov of an animated object on a white background. How do I make the white background transparent to get the composite effect of inserting the animation in another movie? I am using FCE 4.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Set transfert mode for this clip to multiply.
If the white doesn't become transparent, try to apply a brightness and contrast to purify the white or use a color correction to set a new white balance.
