Transparent title

I'm trying to make a title with a black background and transparent letters that show a hidden layer. I've figured out how to make the letters transparent, but I just can't get a background that will leave my letters transparent to the third layer. How does one do this?

Only way is to create a matte...
Firstly, you need to have the text as white text on a solid black background, rather than white text on an alpha channel (clear/transparent background)...
This is how i do what you want to achieve:
1. on V1 you have your background image (image to be seen through the letters).
2. on V2 you have a black slug (exactly the same length as your 'text clip')
3. on V3 you have your text clip
4. Select both the black slug and your text clip and nest them (press option(alt)+C) to merge them into one clip... you will be asked to name this new 'clip'... look up 'nested sequences' on the manual.
5. You now have your background image in V1 and this new nested clip on V2
6. press control-click/right-click on the nested clip to bring up the little menu... navigate to "Composite Mode" and choose "Multiply" from the sub-menu...
job done.
Whilst you're at it, experiment with different composite modes... very very very useful things to get your head around... especially Travel Matte - Alpha and Travel Matte - Luma

  • Remove Title Bar From Form, Visual C# Express

I have been told to set the Border to 0 or "none".
I was also told to set the ControlBox to False.  This only removed the minimize, maximize and exit icons.
There is no Border setting on the Form Properties.  Is that in the Ultimate version?
Otherwise, what code do I use to remove the title entirely?
In games like Starcraft 2, there is a transparent title bar with minimize, maximize and exit styled to fit the game visuals.  I would be interested in that, too.  Is that c++ only, though?

    set Forms ControlBoxproperty
    to false and Text property
    to empty
    this.ControlBox = false;
    this.Text = String.Empty;

  • Title Box sticks until quit

    iPhoto '08 (version 7.1.5 (378)) on a PPC (1.6 Ghz Dual G4 with 1.38 GB RAM) OS 10.4.11
When you're in iPhoto viewing "all photos" as opposed to viewing as Events, you get a large grey transparent box in the middle of the window which contains the date and event name as you slide the scroll bar. Once you stop, the box disappears. So far so good.
However, I've found that under certain conditions this grey transparent title box sticks in place. It keeps changing as I scroll but no matter what I do, it won't go away. The only way to get this title box out of my way is to restart iPhoto. I believe the problem is triggered mostly if you try to use the scroller to view photos pending an import.
    Thanks.

iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Uncheck "Show Acrolling Information"
There's a similar setting in the Events tab as well.
If that doesn't sort the problem try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Title Problems

I'm having real trouble with Titles. Two issues:
First, the titles keep snapping back to the menu grid - I cannot get them to overlay a clip - and only sometimes can I get them to overlay black. They are not cooperating. Could this have something to do with the fact that the video clips were first shot in FHD (not SD or CBR) then processed thru the Apple Codec?
Second, how can I go back and change/edit a title page once the text has been laid in? Is that possible?

    AppleMan1958,
I'm having very similar problems -- can get the title up into the clips, but there's no "hovering over the clips" with a "purple shadow" -- it simply slips between the nearest clips. I can edit the text, but can't get my images/clips to show in the title field like the pretty Cayman Islands fish in your tutorial. Using the color picker just turns the black background into a dull grey, no matter what color I select.
If these title frames are available somewhere in photoshoppable form, I can mash them up myself -- or can I make my own transparent titles? Or are there more transparent titles available on the web somewhere? what's the format?
Thank you much for any help!
    Cheers

  • CS5/CS4 GUI User Interface Design

I have always been very unimpressed with the user interface design on Adobe CS4.  It's riddled with problems and changes that make no sense and offer no advantages.
For example, there is no longer a normal Windows title bar in many of the CS4 apps.  This makes it much more difficult to maximize/restore applications since normally a Windows user could simply throw the mouse to the top edge of the screen and double click the title bar.  In fact, doing this with CS4 apps has ZERO function (it doesn't do anything).  One would think that by moving the menu commands to the top bar of the window chrome, Adobe would make these menus accessible from the top-most edge of the screen in order to increase usability.  Unfortunately this is not so and clicking the top most edge of a maximized window does nothing.
Two other very important parts of an application user interface are the upper left and upper right corners.  Normally when a Windows application is maximized, throwing your pointer to the upper right corner and clicking will close the application.  Throwing the pointer to the upper left corner and clicking will reveal the application window menu.  This happens in ALL applications... EXCEPT for Adobe CS4 programs.  These two extremely important application window command locations have been completely disabled in Adobe CS4 apps. Clicking the upper most corner pixels in a maximized Adobe CS4 app does nothing.
Then there's the tabbed document window interface.  If you float a document window and maximize that, normally you would expect it to become maximized within the application window as it should.  Au contraire, in Adobe CS4, the document window maximizes itself ON TOP OF the application window, thus obscuring and disabling any access to the application window's tools/commands.  I did report that as a bug during beta, but obviously it was ignored.  Seems kind of obvious to me that the fact that a user could accidentally make the entire application completely unusable by maximizing a document window might be a problem.
It still alludes me as to why Adobe changed the CS4 user interface to something that breaks so many Windows UI conventions.  Adobe CS3 was a practically perfect user interface design on Windows.  It was very customizable, all of the normal Windows functions were properly in place.
What's the deal with the change?
I thought maybe the file menu was moved in place of the title bar in order to make more room for other UI elements, but it's actually pretty much the same size as the old file menu title bar combination in CS3.
With all these changes and with all the functionality losses, what exactly have we gained in the CS4 GUI?  Seriously, I'm asking.
Anyway, I hope Adobe starts reading the Windows User Experience Guidelines (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa511331.aspx) and brings CS5 back to the way a Windows application should behave.  Proper theme adherence would be nice too.
Which brings me to Windows 7.  I love love love the way Windows 7 groups application document previews in one taskbar icon and allows aero-peek for open windows.  Adobe CS 4 obviously does not support this since it does not have normal document windows.  I hope CS5 does because it is a great feature.  I also hope Adobe CS5 implements the Windows 7 jumplists and maybe even a more touch/multi-touch friendly interface.  I've become pretty good at processing photos in Bridge using the touchscreen, and it's very cool, but it could use some improvements.
For an example of great user interface design, has anyone tried Office 2010 on Windows 7 yet?  http://www.istartedsomething.com/20090512/screencaps-office-2010-technical-preview-teched- 2009-keynote/
The faded transparent title bar and tabbed ribbon interface is absolutely gorgeous.

    @Adam:
I agree with your comments! So well said!
And there are other issues, too -- by the color of the app window, you don't know if the window is active or inactive (focus or not in focus). Titles of panels which are inactive, are dark text over dark background -- hardly readable at all... And many more.
I really hope Adobe are listening...

  • Headers and tabs are almost illegible in default Dell theme on Win7

I have a Dell Studio XPS laptop, Win7 64-bit, 1920 * 1080 screen. It uses the default Dell theme, of which I think the key item in reproducing this issues is the 'Frost' Window Color, with Transparency on.
On the FF4 Beta 5, and the Beta 4 before it, this affects not just the very top line of the screen (Title Bar? - the one with the min/max/X buttons on it, anyway), but also the FF headers, down to and including the tabs.
They appear as dark gray (except for the one currently selected tab), the screen behind shows through quite a bit, and they are very hard to see and to read.
No other software I have does this except on the title bar, AFAIR.
I tried altering the Control Panel/Personalization settings, and I can get something that makes FF4 usable, but it's not as nice as the default Dell theme, and affects every screen I use. I don't want to do that just because FF4, alone, needs it.
Accordingly, for now, I've gone back to FF3.6.9; that has the semi-transparent Title Bar, which is fine, and legible headers/tab lines whose colours seem to be FF-chosen, and which are opaque, and nicely readable, on the default Dell theme.
    So: is this FF4 transparent headers/tabs a mistake;
    or a design decision that happens to interact badly with my Dell theme;
or something customisable in FF4 in someplace I don't know where to find it?
    All help gratefully received.

No different in Beta 6, alas.

  • "Glass" Effect Lettering Created In Photoshop Does Not Appear Correctly.

I have made some "glass" effect transparent titles in Photoshop by putting a normal title over a transparent background, adding an inner glow and bevel and then reducing the Fill Opacity to zero.
This is how it should look:-
However, when I import it into FCE/FCP and superimpose it over video the title usually looks solid black - as it did originally before I reduced the Fill Opacity.
I have tried every combination of Composite mode I can find in FCE/FCP to no avail.
Is it possible to show it the way it is intended and if so, can anyone suggest where I am going wrong?
    Ian.

    Hi(Bonour)!
Start with a transparent background in photoshop. Compose your title document (yopu can put a reference layer at bottom of the stack to see how title will appears on your image clip- if so, pay attention to make this backgroud inactive upon exporting) and save in PNG format (this format save the alpha channel-transparency- with your graphic elements).
Import in FCE, and compose your title over your video clip.
    Use normal composite mode.
You can also use Boris title or livetype to achieve the same result.

  • Creating transparent backgrounds in Keynote for export as titles in FCP

I am creating titles in Keynote and exporting them into Final Cut. I was wondering if anyone knows how to make transparent backgrounds so I can overlay the titles on videos. I have tried "include transparency" but have been unsuccessful. I haven't found any help files to address this situation.
    Many thanks

    1. make sure your slide background is set to NONE, no color, no image
    no nothing
    2. Check the Include Transparency check box when you choose the
    QuickTime export
    3. Choose Custom from the formats pop-up
    4. Click the Settings button
    5. Choose Animation or PNG from the pop-up (it probably says Sorenson)
    6. Choose Millions of Colors+ from the depth pop-up
Make any other quality or frame settings, and export it. You SHOULD get
a movie that has a transparent background.

  • Title Background Transparency Doesn't Work

    Hello,
I can't get the title background transparency to work. I'm running Premiere CS6 6.04. Clicking on the background button does nothing. Sometimes, I can randomly change the background settings to get it to become transparent, but that is not working now. Very frustrating.

This is me setting up a title. The cursor is on the spot on the timeline that has a red christmas background. Everything appears normal.
When I close this window, and move the title onto the timeline this happens. I haven't touched anything else (including the cursor location)

  • Importing .psd file with transparency in Premiere Pro CS4 titler

I am trying to import a psd file with transparency into the Premiere Pro CS4 titler and the transparency will not come in. I've tried psd, png, jpeg, gif, targa and none will preserve the transparency. What I'm trying to do is create a custom lower third using a image without having to build it inside the titler or drop the PSD directly onto my timeline. This seems like an easy task, but I'm not having any luck. Please help!

Boy you guys are quick. I did not find this thread until after you'd sorted it out. You know how much I like to work on PS to PrPro problems!
    Jeff,
You might want to move this thread to the PrPro sub-forum, as it will likely help others with PSD Transparency issues, and might never get seen back here.
Like you haven't been busy doing the housekeeping already. You moved one post WHILE I was replying to it. Imagine my surprise, when I replied and ended up in the other sub-forum - as if by magic!

My title bar is not showing the transparency in leopard. I am wondering if I am the only one experiencing this problem.

This will depend on your computer. I believe the transparent menubar requires "core image" or some other "core" technology, and if your graphics card does not support that technology then it will not do it. The transparent menubar works on my G5 with a Radeon X800XT, but it doesnt work on my PowerBook G4 (Radeon 9000).

  • Exporting transparent background titles?

I tried to export my title as a .gif, but when I upload the image to my website it has a black background. how can I make the background transparent and still have my title animation fade in?  I also want to stop the .GIF from looping. I have an alternative method if its not possible in premiere.
    Example:

well, its some kind of fake transparency as the gif format doesnt include alpha channel, you just asign one color as transparent (e.g. black) and the result depends on how the gif will be embeded and viewed. And if you succeed to make the black transparent you will still get bad results with semitransparent areas such as the edges of your letters.
The thing Japarokee wants to do (animated text on a website) might be solved best with tools specialized for webpublishing (adobe edge, animated svg, css animation or others).
If you want to stick to gif, including the background of your site in the .prproj might be best.

  • Add Title w/ Transparent background

Earlier today I learned through the list how to add a title to the entire length of a movie.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to have this title (URL actually) added without a background to the title (transparent background so all your that shows up on the screen are the letters).
I created the text in photoshop (with transparent background) and am experimenting with it.
Several formats have worked fine as long as I'm wanting a background to my text (for a "stripe subtitle" look), but the only format that has worked for getting a transparent background has been .gif
    Am I doing something wrong?
The .gif hasn't been very clear, so I'm hoping that another format will work.
    Any hints would be appreciated.
    Luke

Make your file in .png format.
Set the dimensions as close as possible to what will be used in your video so you'll only need to position it in the Movie Properties window.
Set an "alpha" channel for the background color and don't "anti-alias" the text portion to help reduce "jaggies".
Open this file with QuickTime Pro and copy it. Make a selection on your video (in and out points) and choose "Add to Selection & Scale" (Edit menu).
Open the Movie Properties window, highlight the new Video track and click the Visual Settings tab.
Set the "Offset" to position it over your video. In the lower left of the Visual Settings window is a menu for Transparency. Choose "Straight Alpha" and use Save As to complete your file.
The .gif format is not the right choice because it is only 8 bit color.
I used text tracks and QuickTime Pro version 6 in most of my videos. It allows me to set transparency colors where version 7 has left them out:

OC, explain a bit more- because what David explained
is correct. If you export from livetype without
rendering the background, then the background is
    actually transparent.
My assumption here is that after you do this, you are
watching the quicktime file that pops up in live type
after it renders- and it has a black background.
This is normal, but actually transparency is there.
Import the QT file into final cut and throw it on a
v2 track above another video image. You will notice
that there actually is a transparent background in
    FCP...
If you have already done this and you are still
seeing black, my next question would be what format
    are you editing in? DV?
