Transports during Support Pack application/testing

During our last Support Pack processing, (SP14-SP16) we had applied the support packs to Dev, QA and were waiting for our functional teams to complete their testing prior to applying the SPs to PRD.  During this time, the SAP manager insisted we promote "a minor change" to PRD via the transport system!  We protested that this would violate best practices (we have previously always "frozen" production changes during SP application and testing) and could possibly introduce program and data errors!  In order to maintain our employment, we acquiesced to the change.  Where can I get documentation the supports our Basis team stance?  Any input is appreciated.

You can quote following line and use the note as reference,
Test system, quality assurance system and production system should always have the same Support Package status.

  • Support pack application - downtime minimized

    Hi,
We have a large number of support packs to apply, including EhP3, to our ECC 6 system (Currently EhP2).  To minimize downtime during support pack application we want to utilize the downtime minimized method (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/12/5ec33a6e386436e10000000a11402f/content.htm).  One of our concerns is around user session.  Specifically, the person who is doing the SP application and activation may lose connectivity to the SAP system.  We are therefore not sure how to ensure that the activation process is either uninterrupted or can be restarted if connectivity to the SAP system would be lost.
Please provide your feedback/comments on how you have addressed this or perhaps is it just an education thing.
    Thank you,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
If I have understood your concern correctly, triggering SP import to run in background ([Defining Start options|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/12/5ec33a6e386436e10000000a11402f/frameset.htm]) should take care it.
In any case, if the import gets aborted you can always restart it from SPAM or even [reset the queue|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/a7/a7a932845c11d2b421006094b9ea64/frameset.htm] if you have not crossed the Preparation module.

  • Short dump in every transaction during support pack import - Solution Mgr

I am in the middle of applying support packs SP13 and SP14 for Solution Manager.  In SPAM, during the import, I received short dumps.  I get short dump for all transactions.  The error message is 'Syntax error in program "SAPLWB_CUSTOMIZING", Field "G_DC_TABSTR" is unknown in INCLUDE LWB_CUSTOMIZINGDEV'.

    Hi
My first question, would be, why are you performing  other activities while importing patches?
    This is not recommended.

  • Objects are locked in open change requests during support packs update

    Hi All,
We are applying support packs in the ECC Dev system. Its giving error in phase OBJECTS LOCKED..?  after that i checked with ABAP consultant he given requests which i unlocked the objects from SE03. Still the same error Objects are locked in open change requests is coming.
If i checked requests which are not released, those are in hundreds which we can not release. How can i find a specific object which i need to unlock or any chance to skip the phase and continue. Because 15 days back i have updated the support packs without any of the issue.
Please suggest me whether i can find the specific objects to unlock or any other process.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hello,
Normally when we double click on that error message 'objects are locked', system takes us to the transport requests containing those objects in question.
And did you try SE03 --> Objects in Requests --> Search for Objects in Requests/Tasks ?

  • Applying  support Pack in  test mode...

    Hi Guys,
I need to know can we apply support pack directly on production in test mode?
If yes, please give me the details of it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Abu

    Hi,
You can use the test scenario to determine if a modification adjustment is required before the Support Package is actually imported, or if any conflicts need to be resolved before the import. The test scenario does not import data into your SAP system.
Also please note that there is no test scenario for SPAM/SAINT updates. A SPAM/SAINT import ignores the scenario you select

  • Experiences - Applying support packs to enhanced SAP Web Dynpro code

Just thought I might highlight some experiences we've had with applying support packs for XSS. (Reply if you have your own experiences or a proven better way)
Firstly, we are using Travel within XSS and have some significant developments to get this working globally.  Rightly or wrongly, we added our own DC's within the ESS application area and need to take this into account during support packs.
As advised by SAP, we have not directly applied the support pack source code to the modified track, but created a separate SPXX track which we manually need to reaply all of our changes.  It dissapoints me that SAP don't recommend doing what the help.sap.com states, but there must be a reason for this (supposedly the meta data tool not yet available in NW04 will address the main reason).
In order to get our custom DC's from the old track to the new; I needed to add all non-generated objects to an activity, connect SPXX-1 track to the SPXX track and transport all the way through to the approval stage to get it migrated (the connection can be terminated after this is done).  Again - Less than ideal, especially if you accidentally transport a generated file or miss a file.
Then for all SAP Web Dynpro changes, we've documented all changes to the nth degree and it's at this point we manually reapply the changes - taking into account any SAP changes that may have occurred.
I hope SAP promotes doing this a better way soon, but here's a process for anyone else needing to do this.
    Regards,
    Matt

As you stated the system without the context tab is NetWeaver 7.0.  The context tab and the extra wizards were new features in NetWeaver 7.0 Enhancement Package 1.  Your system would have to be updated to this NetWeaver Enhancement Package level in order to have this functionality.

  • Support pack Upgradation

    Hi Gurus
I have couple of doubts on my Transports. We are upgrading support packs on BI 7.0.
They upgraded on Development System and They are planning to upgrade support packs on Testing and Production System.I want to transport from Develoment to Testing System.
What would be the effect on Transport if I transport objects from Dev System to Testing System when they are on different Support packs. Can I migrate the Objetcs or not .If so what would be the effect. Please let me know.
Could any one let meknow how to apply SAP notes once the basis apply Support Pack Upgrade.I need to do this down the road.Any help will be appreciatable and assign points.
    Thanks,
    Suryam.

    Hi,
Usually SAP notes are applied by the BASIS team. Notes are nothing but code changes provided by SAP for the std SAP programs.
Also in case you the transports, I would do thorough checking as patch levels are different on both the systems and the functionality might be different. For ex. if a patch upgrade came with some new features in query designer and those features were used in development, they'll not be available in test system after you transport as the patch levels are different. After patch upgrade to the test system, you might have to retransport.
    Cheers,
    Kedar

  • We want to finalize a support pack strategy any pointers?

    Hi,
We want to finalize on the support pack application policy for our company. Currently we are on ECC 6.0 Support Pack 8. We have a new SAP installation. Can you please suggest some blogs or articles that elaborate on what is a good support pack application policy. i.e how frequently should we apply the support packs, compatibility issues, what all things we need to test after applying the support pack etc.
    Thanks for reading.

    Hi,
Support packs are basically the Program/Object Corrections & Modifications. There is no hard rule on when to apply the support packs but it always best to be with the latest (latest -1) support pack. This way you will be safe from all the know issues and will have all the new functionalities. The important thing to note while applying the support pack is to decide whether you want to maintain the modifications to the standard objects (if any) or not? a functional testing is advisable.

  • Report painter report does not exist after applying support pack

    Hi,
I have created report with the help of report painter for FI.
Also created transaction code for the same.
After applying the support pack, while testing I got the error that
program in the transaction code does not exists.
How to search that program and where or I need to create the same program again?
    Thanx in advance.
    -Umesh

The reason could be having (1)  invalid characteristics value or (2) have not properly defined the General Data Section, most likely (1) in this case.
Either way, go to t-code GRR2 to change the report.
In the report row or column, is there an Element (the labels in red color) that does not make sense?
It could still have the correct label names, but double-click and go into "Record Types (from your error message)".  Be sure to have the correctly define values attached to each Characteristics.
If all above seems okay, try (From top bar, select) Edit --> General Data Section.  Think of this section as the "header data" of the report.
    Good luck

  • Support Pack Upgrade Undo

    Hello Experts,
I am new to this fascinating world of SAP BASIS professionals and here I am again with my fourth issue. Please give your valuable advise.
    The Scenario:
I have an ECC 6.0 ABAP+JAVA system installed. Recently I have upgraded 3 of it's software components, which are follows:
    PI_BASIS 2005_1_700     Level 0009----to-----Level 0010.
    SAP_BASIS 700               Level 0009----to-----Level 0010.
    SAP_ ABA 700                 Level 0009----to-----Level 0010.
    My Question/Issue:
I have upgraded the above to Level 0010, but now I want to revert them back to Level 0009 (initial level), that is, I want to UNDO the SUPPORT PACK application. Is this possible? If this is possible, then how?
Please Note: I have not taken any database backup before applying this patches, furthermore, my database is in NO ARCHIVE LOG mode.
    Help me....

    Hello,
Since you have no backup available, the only solution is re-installing the system.
"Fooling" the system by changing some of the PAT* tables is not a good proposition.
There remain a lot of open questions with this approach.
How are you going to revert your repository to the previous level ?
Support packages not only import source code corrections but also modifications to the repository (new fields in tables, extend data elements, ...) resulting in conversions of your repository.
By fooling the system you risk serious conflicts weeks or even months later, are you going to take that risk ?
I hope this can help you.
    Wim

  • Error during application of scm 7.0 support pack

While applying support pack to our SCM 7.0 system (New Installation),
We encountered a SPAM error in xpra_execution phase, due to automatic
termination of job RDDEXECL scheduled by user id DDIC on client 000.
The details of the error are:
    Message id: Brain
    Message number : 366
    Message type: A
Error: Error during SID assignment for characteristic 0REQUID (current
    value 2)
We had a look at few notes mentioned by SAP support on 1319241. which
    specifies a solution as
u201CIf you encounter the error message above, please run the Elementary
test - Compare Number Range and Maximum SID - for Master Data 0REQUID
in transaction RSRV. When it turns red, the error can be corrected by
    pressing the "Correct Error" button.u201D
But we are already getting the light as green in the elementary test
for the Master Data 0REQUID in transaction RSRV, though we still
execute the same and problem is still the same i.e. RDDEXECL
    program/job is getting terminated.

  • DDIC_ACTIVATION Error during application of Support Pack SAPKH47007

    Hi All,
We were trying to apply Support Pack SAPKH47007 and it gave us an error in DDIC_Activation Phase and when i checked the logs it gave us this error
Relationship TMFK-TDID for table TTXS does not exist
    Check dependent search help S_TMFK_SETTLE
    Search help S_TMFK_SETTLE is consistent
I searched and found one Relevant Note for this SAP Note Num : 625098 and it tells us to delete the following fields
Delete the fields FLG_AK_PAYM_FICA and FLG_AK_PAYM_FIAR from the table
I went to SE11 and i dont see this fields there, and even though if i see them i dont think i can delete them coz it is asking Developer Key.
Upon further checking i found that if we delete the Contents in  Pat01 and Pat03 we can go ahead and redo the support packs from begining. Can anyone throw some light on this as to how safe is this?
    Regards,
    Ershad Ahmed.

Did you read the note I gave you?
    The note says:
Symptom: An error occurs in the DDIC_ACTIVATION phase when you import Support Package SAPKH47007. The DDIC activation log records the following error messages:
Relationship TMFK-TDID for table TTXS does not exist
    <...>
Solution: A general solution to the problem is available with R/3 Support Package SAPKH47010. To avoid the error, import the Support Packages SAPKH47007 and SAPKH47010 together in a queue.
If you have already encountered this error, the queue must be reset and extended to include Support Package SAPKH47010. Since you cannot reset the queue from the DDIC_ACTIVATION phase using normal means, this must be done by SAP Support (Component BC-UPG-OCS).

  • BSP application not being pulled after the application of support packs

    Hi all,
Support packs SP 35-42 were applied last week end and after that one of the three BSP applications in production server is not being pulled through SAP gui. If I take the URL and paste it in IE the same application is being pulled. We are suspecting that to be a web dispature issue or firewall issue. The land scape is like this. P20 is our production server and C20 is our QA server.P20 has Sun109 as a web dispature and C20 has Sun108 as webdispature. There is a firewall in between P20 and Sun 109 but there is no firewall in between C20 and Sun 108. We redirected P20 to Sun 108 to test and all the three applications pulled up. so we concluded that it could be an issue with SUN 109 or a firewall issue. I am new to this webdispature stuff. I need help in identifying which files I have to look in to identify any kind of such errors. it is confusing why other two applications are being pulled and only one is not being pulled into SAP gui. We debugged the code and every thing is working fine. this is an urgent issue to be resolved. These application were developed long back and the developer did not leave any documentation how the hand shake is done between the web dispature and the SAP system. We are supporting the production system now. I appreciate any one responding as soon as posible.
    Thank you very much,
    Giri
