Trash and Sent Items Policies

I am looking to automate deletion of trash and sent items. I know that can be set up for trash by administratively setting that in client options for the post office, but is there a way to do the same for Sent Items, say to delete sent items after 90 days?

I wanted to evaluate what would be affected first, so I did a Mailbox Statistics, Expire Statistics run on my mailbox. I set the "items older than", and "Downloaded items older than", number of days for 370, and included Senti Items and Calendar Items. I got a lot more than I bargained for. The log shows everything from way back when.... long before the 370 days I entered, all the way up to today's present email. Why is mail from March 2013 forward being shown? Does that mean in a real run these sent items would also be deleted? How do I interpret this?

yes that too....in the bottom of the expire reduce you chose what to
include....received items, sent items. calendar items.
so for sent items its just items older than and trash older than.....
you can then select sent items only.....
may need to do 2 separate scheduled events one for the trash and one for the
sent items, but very do-able..

• Mac and S3 Mail Trash and Sent items separated

Hi Guys,
I recently moved away from my iPhone and am trialing a Galaxy S3.
After a lot of difficulty, I set up my .mac email on the S3 and all seemed to be working well.
But Mail on my Mac now has separate Sent and Trash Folders under iCloud, which only have the Sent and Trashed eMails from my S3. All eMails sent and Trashed from my Mac show up under the normal Folders.
When I had my iPhone, all Sent and Trash items - both from Mac Mail and iPhone Mail - showed up under Mailboxes Sent and Trash.
What have I done wrong?

The only way to fix that is to switch from your POP/POP3 email account to an IMAP account, such as iCloud email, Gmail or Yahoo. POP3 accounts will not sync changes on any device back to the server.

• Can't get Mail- Gmail- Drafts(And Sent Items) to mirror online or my iphone

I have read the posts here and elsewhere on how to get this to work, but for some reason my 'Drafts'(and 'Sent' items) folder in Mail.app is still not the same as online or on my iphone. What exactly do i need to do to make Mail.app folders for Drafts/Sent items stay in synch with my iPhone and web based Gmail?
Here are my settings in Mail.app
-Gmail is Setup as IMAP
-in Mail->Prefs->Accounts->Mailbox Behaviours All boxes are checked for Server except 'Junk'
When looking at a normal 'Inbox' panel, if I mouse over the 'Gmail' account in 'Drafts' it says "Contents Stored on Server. Name on Server: Drafts"
However when viewing Mail.app->Drafts->Gmail, no draft messages are shown. If I do the same on my iPhone or the web based gmail I do see the up-to-date drafts. Also if i select the 'Drafts->Gmail folder), I do not get any options in (Mail->Mailbox->Use This Mailbox for).
That said, if I find the IMAP Structure in Mail(scrolling down accounts) I do see a folder structure called 'Gmail->[Google Mail]' that does contain the Drafts and Sent folders that are in synch.

• Read the Inbox,Drafts, And Sent Items SMS in J2ME

Hello,
i want to read the SMS from Inbox,Drafts, And Sent Items. Is their any way to read this.

Yeah ... i'm trying to do the same thing .. well ... this is the only work around that i found ... The platform i'm working on is a nokia 6630 2nd Edition (series 60, midp 2.0) .. since the device has JSR75 ( connection to file and pim ) ... you can open the c:\system\mail\ directory (note, it maybe at another location) and phase the messages stored in there directly ..

It is possible it just hasn' updated yet.
Try resetting:
Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)

• All emails except those received over last 24 hours, were suddenly deleted. Inbox, trash and sent all affected. Any ideas on why and whether I can expect more of the same? I use outlook express

I have had my ipad2 for over a year and this is the first time I have suddenly lost emails without warning. My inbox, trash and Sent all emptied leaving only emails I had received in the last 24 hours. Have no idea where they have gone or whether this may happen again. Did not have iCloud.

Try this:
Settings > Mail Contact Calendars
Tap your mailbox
Tap Mail Days to Sync
Choose no limit

• Problems with icloud folders and sent items

Hey,
I have done an extensive search but cannot find the answer to my query. I have been a long time user of apple’s email service and thus have an @mac.com/@me.com and an @icloud.com email address. Recently icloud has been playing up and is no longer storing my sent emails in the sent email file but is creating a smart “Trash” folder with a “sent Items” folder in that and this is where my sent items are coming up.
This is not only annoying but is also mucking up my ability to sync properly with Postbox
Does anyone know what on earth is going on?
Thank you!

If this is a POP account and you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), you probably have the problem described here:
Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
If you’re just starting to experience the problem, doing what the article suggests might work. If you’ve let the problem to become worse over time, however, it’s almost certainly too late to solve it as described in the article.
Because of the differences between Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, further discussing your problem here might confuse other users with apparently similar problems using Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), so please start a new topic in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum, or just look for other threads discussing the same problem there. This is actually a FAQ in that forum.

• Mail and sent items folder on Yahoo!

(Firstly I'm running the latest version of Mail on the latest OSX on an iMac, and MBA, iPads and iPhones).
What is it with Mail on oSX and how have Apple managed to make it so much worse than Mail on iOS?!!!!!
First issues, if you can help please.
I use Yahoo! On every Mail app in the world for the last zillion years (including on iOS) when you sent an email it goes in to your Sent Items. Nothing revolutionary about that. But why on Mail for OSX does it go in to a different folder called Sent Messages and not in the Sent Items folder like it does on every other Apple Mail app?! If I sent an email on my iMac when I want to find it on my iPhone I won't find it in Sent Items (one of the four or so default folders with a pretty icon) but instead I have to find it all on it's own in a separate sub folder called Sent Messages. Can that really be right?
Secondly, Exchange.
Mail on iOS and Exchange all works simply and logically and updates immediately etc. Why does Exchange mail on Mail for OSX firstly take many, many, many, minutes to update the Inbox (despite manually clicking the Get Mail icon). it is soooooo slow despite forcing it to do it. Also, identicasl settings for Mail Preferences on my MBA and my iMac. One Exchange Inbox says 189 Unread and the other says 98 Unread.
Mail for OSX gets a resounding 2/10 score but maybe I'm doing something wrong?
All input gratefully received.

FROM AN APPLE TECH - SEE BELOW
Hi Scott
To see Sent Mail on you Gmail IMAP address in Apple Mail program, you need to click on and expose Gmail section in left column of mail and show the Sent folder as shown below. This will show you the emails sent from your other devices. This information is stored on Gmail server.
The best way to reach me is via email. Please reply to this email and I will contact you as soon as I possibly can.

• What is the difference between the "sent" and "sent items" folders?

My email is in the "sent" folder but not the "sent items" folder. How do I know my email has actually been sent?
Why are there two folders?
Can I just use one?

Sent vs. Sent Items
In Thunderbird, the Sent folder (located on the IMAP mail server) retains a copy of each of your outgoing e-mail messages. This is a function that can be altered in the preferences, but is most often configured in this way on the Princeton campus. '''Outlook does not recognize that the Sent folder is any different from any other e-mail folder. Outlook's equivalent of the Sent folder is called Sent Items and is generally stored locally rather than on the central mail server.''' When you begin using Outlook, copies of your outgoing e-mail messages will be stored in the Sent Items folder. The Help Desk recommends that you create a rule to send copies of your Outgoing messages to your Sent folder on the IMAP server. See Solution 9202 for instruction.

If you’re using an incoming POP3 server, you can only synchronize your Inbox folder. If you’re using IMAP4, you can choose the folders that you want Thunderbird to synchronize with the server. Remember that IMAP4 doesn’t support the synchronization of the Contacts and Calendar folders. '''Thunderbird uses a folder named Sent to store sent items. Exchange and Outlook Web App use a folder named Sent Items.''' You can synchronize the email items that you’ve sent in Thunderbird with the Sent Items folder on the Exchange server. • Mailbox and sent items in Home view

People do not like seeing just the unread items in the Home view. We create a new panel that points to the Mailbox folder. This displays all their previous messages as well as any new ones. However, it also displays the items from the sent folder as well. Is there a way to only display the mailbox items without the sent items in the panel?

Disregard this post. The sent items can be removed from the Mailbox panel by choosing Edit on the panel, select the Display tab, and deselect Sent under Item Source.

• How can I recover my Emails and Sent Items for an Accountthat was wiped from my computer?

I had to complete a system restore as my computer failed. This resulted in my account being wiped from the computer, alomg with any files relating to it. I have consequently downloaded Thurderbird again and reinputted my details, whih has resulted in me gaining emails for the past month. However I have not got access to the emails I received for the 6mths prior to that time, any of my sent items, or any of the sub-folders I created and their contents. If anyone has any offerings of help in recovering these I would massively appreciate it!
Thank you,

• Mails were deleted automatically from inbox and sent items, even in deleted items in Exchange 2013 CU2

Dear all:
I encountered a problem and needs to be solved.
We runs Exchange 2013 CU2, and some users told me that their mails in sent items and inbox were automatically delivered into "deleted items", especially in last two weeks or yesterday.
The users said they cannot delete so many mails at one time. And now I found one user's mails in "deleted items" were also deleted this morning.
I don't know whether it was bug or not in exchange 2013 cu2, and how to solve this problem? Thanks for any help.

Hi koiso,
Are there any commons among problematic users or deleted emails? For example,
they are on the same database
they have delegate settings
they are using mobile phone to sync emails
At the same time, I'd recommend you enable Mailbox Audit Log for the problematic users. For your reference:

I have checked my webmail and the email i replied to is there and not deleted but that's not on the ipod but my reply which was sent from my iPod has completely disappeared as have the rest. Can anyone please advise me on this. • BT Mail inboxes and sent items not syncing with Ou...

I have got IMAP/SMTP set up on Outlook but having trouble syncing my inbox sub folders that I set up online with BT Mail - these are not showing in outlook. Also items sent from BT Mail not appearing in outlook (just the ones sent from outlook). Any solutions?

Hi Oakmere,
Thanks for posting. If you set these folders up within POP the recommendation is that they are set up again on webmail before transferring over to the IMAP. You may need to set this up again to ensure everything syncs up.
Thanks
