Traveling blues

I have just updated my filtering system for one of my clients who are a first school. Because of the difficulty of getting HTTPS filtering working I have decided to rely on redirecting www.google.co.uk and www.youtube.com to forcesafesearch.google.com by adding dns zones on the windows servers. It is working well on google searches, but with youtube I am finding virtually 75% of the videos have vanished! And I am not talking about inappropriate videos - youtube safety mode is just excessive. Can anyone else advise whether they bother with Youtube Safety Mode for schools as I think that I am going to have to turn Safety Mode off as it renders Youtube unusable.Ultimately I intend to get SSL filtering to work properly, but I think at the moment there are too many problems, so I will have to rely on Google Safe Search for google and maybe...

I put the following ad on craigslist Saturday afternoon:==========================================FREE - 14 computer towers Dell Sony HP eMachines GenericI have 14 computer towers to give away. All of them we working when taken out of service except one - the HP model. They've been stripped of hard drives and memory. Machines that had IDE optical drives still have them. Most have power supplies too.Free to whoever claims and picks up first.==========================================As soon as the ad went live I started getting emails. It went live about 5:00 PM on the 4th of July today. As of 11:00 PM I've had about 25 unique requests. A couple have tried multiple times, including the first responder whom I've already told he can have them.He said he wanted them for scrap. I figured someone might want them who wanted to rebuild them....

    Dear All,
I have purchased IPhone 5S in Florida Mall when I was traveling to US from India.I bought this phone in unlocked condition. I started my phone when I came back in India. After few days (4-5 days) it started giving blue dump regularly. Then I have contacted Authorized service centre (Maple)  in India (Maharashtra – New Mumbai) and then Maple checked with Apple and Apple said this phone is not under International Warranty. But when I purchased this phone form Apple Florida Mall ,I have been told by Zach McKenzie (Sales Person) that it has an international warranty and u can approach to any authorized centre in India for any issues. And that’s the reason I have bought this phone.
But now I am in big trouble so tell me how can u help me in this regards.

Note this is a user forum hosted by Apple. You aren't talking to Apple here just other users.
Note that the iPhone warranty is NOT international and never has been. Your iPhone must be serviced in the country of purchase.

I am trying to delete an email. However, recently, when I highlight the email, the highlighted area turns a very dark blue and all I can do is undelete it. The "delete" sign at the top is not visible. What causes this to happen?

I found this link for a similar problem someone had with a Lotus Notes account. I used it to resolve my issue with a different email account (basically followed the same steps, and then looked for the particular account I needed to delete)... hope it helps!

  • Driver issue? with docked T61, and 31P9490- IBM USB Travel Keyboard w/ UltraNav and sleep mode

Can someone from Lenovo please advise me on which version drivers need to be installed for the external keyboard and mouse, and/or the proper power setting(s) to use with this configuration so the machine will react and wake up from its nap with a Fn+F4 on the external keyboard?
T61  7658-CTO,  3GB RAM,  Vista Business Ultimate.  These are the external IBM/Lenovo devices used:
    250410U     THINKPAD ADVANCED MINI DOCK
31P9490    IBM USB TRAVEL KEYBOARD W/ULTRANAV
    31P8700     SCROLLPOINT PRO OPTICAL MOUSE
I have an issue with waking my T61 up from sleep mode while it’s docked and using the external keyboard, mouse, and monitor.  When the machine is docked, the blue Fn keys or the Think Vantage button do not function on the external keyboard.
The external keyboard seems to be the same as the internal keyboard installed in the TP- which I thought would react the same as the internal keyboard when I installed the driver that it came with.  I had hoped something this simple would be easier than it now seems.
    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers, Mark

Thanks for the advice Izzy.  After installing both sets of keyboard and hotkey drivers it does respond to most (but not all) blue Fn key combinations as marked on the external keyboard.  The blue ThinkVantage button still does not respond.
Oddly enough, I am able to use the Fn+F4 key combination to put it into sleep mode and to bring it back out, but when the display comes back I have no control of the UltraNav pad, track pointer, or mouse.  I had to open the TP cover slightly and use the pad to get past the login screen to the desktop.
Incidently, just after using the UltraNav pad on the machine as it was slightly open a couple of messages popped up onscreen involving the USB port(s).  One indicated it was searching for a new device driver for a USB connected device, and the other indicated I could benefit from connecting the device to a high- speed USB port by unpluging the low-speed hub and connecting directly to an available high-speed USB port.
Interestingly, I don't have any external hub connected. It may have identified the docking station USB ports as low-speed, which I don't believe they are...any ideas for what to do with this new set of issues?
    Thanks, Mark

  • I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic but Logic won't send midi data out to the MOTU Traveller to the Piano Disc player

    Hello All,
I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8  but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio.  I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!
Somebody please help.  Thank you all in advance for ANY ideas you might have!

    Blues Piano,
I'm not sure if this will be a help or not.  I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced.  However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip.  While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old.  I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU.  I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track.  Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter.  Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force.  To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities.  To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All."  Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform"  then "Velocity Limiter."  In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.
I hope this helps.  I envy you your Mason & Hamlin.  If you need more help on this just email me at pfleischmann at mac dot com.

  • Once and for all: Can DVD SP build Blu-Ray disc content or not?

    Maybe I’m crazy, but…
Everything I’ve heard to date has Apple backing the Blu-Ray format. Believing this, I just spent $900 on a new Lacie D2 external Blu-Ray burner (which IS Mac compatible). I also purchased Toast 8 (which IS Blu-Ray compatible).
All I need to do now is build my disc content (assign H.264 1920x1080 content, build menus, etc.) then drop it all into Toast and burn Blu-Ray video discs… right?
So what is all this I’m reading here about DVD Studio Pro supporting the HD DVD format and not Blu-Ray???!!!!!!
Am I going to be able to do this using DVD SP or not, and if not, can anybody tell me a program I can use to build my Blue-Ray disc content? (All of my HD content is H.264 (1920x1080) rendered directly from Adobe After Effects).
My deadline for this project is fast approaching and I’m hoping somebody can shed some light on this. If I can build Blu-Ray discs and burn them on my Mac using Toast 8 and the Lacie D2, I’ll make my deadline and justify the $900 spent thus far.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks, SM

    Wait a minute,
Maybe I don’t need to buy PC to run DVDit Pro HD. I have a Mac Pro! With Boot camp I have a PC! Any reason I shouldn’t try running DVDit on my Mac via the Boot Camp beta? That way I'd also be using my Lacie D2 Bu-Ray drive. And with Roxio's 30 day return policy I haven’t much to loose...
I'm calling Roxio tech support. Let you know how it goes

    A LITTLE LATER:
Just got back from digging into Roxio's discussion forum and here's what I found:
I have travelled down the same frustrating path my friend!
But I did succeed doing it all on my new mac Pro, finally...
Install BOOTCAMP (free beta). Install WINDOWS XP ($269 from AMAZON). Install ULEAD BD RECORDER, which comes with DVD MOVIEFACTORY 6 (free trial, $80 to buy).
BDAV worked well from SONY V1-U burning to MATSHITA BD-MLT SW-5582 and played perfectly in new SAMSUNG 1200 palyer on my 57" DLP.
TIP - install BOOTCAMP et al on its own HD, and use NTFS... This will come in handy when doing a BDAV from a file such as HDV1080 that is larger than 4GB.
To do BDMV, you'll need SONIC DVD-IT PRO HD ($499) which I have yet to try...
Frustrating process, but kinda cool to figure it all out, especially when NOBODY in sales at any of these places seems to have a clue.
So there you go - must be possible

  • Internal Blu-ray drive upgrade.

Hi, as the ongoing saga of desiring a Blu-ray Read & Write drive in a Macbook Pro 17" is still a painful bag of hurt for many people including myself, I still can't help try and track down a suitable  possible solution and likely contender.
I previously had upgraded the MacBook Pro's internal 2.5" Hard Disk Drive after having learned at the time that the internal cleareance of my early 2009 unibody MBP 17" allowed a capacious maximum form-factor 'thickness' of 12.5mm instead of the usual 9.5mm for an internal HDD. This was an extremely rewarding piece of info and allowed me to grace the MBP with a 1TB HDD inside, which is absolutely fantastic especially when using space for Bootcamp and of course dealing with Hi Definition video files using FCS, in which you can 'never' have enough space for (transcoding into Apple Pro Res can turn out some seriously huge files). The now fitted internal 1TB drive has now enabled the MacBook Pro 17 to become mobile once again and not fully relying on external drives.
    Except Blu-ray.
I'm personally not keen on attaching an external Blu-ray drive which is why I initially got a MBP for mobility and therefore still looking for an eventual compatible internal version. The irony is that Final Cut Studio can edit and process Hi Definition Media, albeit without proper large optical-disc storage media to store it on and FCS's Compressor will even transcode it to Blu-ray format and burn on output to Blu-ray disc (even has a Blu-ray New Batch template). Toast 10 & 11 Titanium deals with Blu-ray (via it's Blu-ray plugin). Therefore it continues to be a painful legacy that the MBP is devoid of one.
My question is this, if upgrading the internal Super-drive to another optical drive, what are the exact dimension restriction and therefore the allowed thickness form-factor for a slot-loading optical drive on it's 'own' and with it's securing bracket/bezel. Is the bracket/bezel a standard fixture that will de-assemble and be re-used with a new replacement, or would any replacement drive come with a new suitable on affixed.
Any thoughts on the following two likely contenders. The first drive by FastMac Reads & Writes Blu-ray, the second drive by Sony Reads Blu-ray only but both makes read & write DVD's (no doubt Sony has a writeable slot-loading version somewhere buried within one of their Web Site because I had a Sony Laptop about 4 or 5 years ago that burned Blu-ray). The FastMac drive looks promising if the company is legit:-

    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/3245/2512/-/18658441/Sony-BC-5640H-Slot-Loading-Sli m-Blu-Ray-Combo-Drive/Product.html
    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:tGtqxbfqWNsJ:www.sony-optia rc.eu/products/bluraydrivesnotebooks/bc5640h.html+Sony+BC-5640H&cd=1&hl=en&ct=cl nk&gl=uk&source=www.google.co.uk
It doesn't matter if for at least the immediate time being, it may not be actually possible to play Blu-ray movies within OS X lacking the kernels for it. If a compatible drive was found, then the rewards are:-
Storing massive amounts of data (up to 50GB on one disc). Fantastic fro backups and archiving.
Being able to FINNALLY output edited Hi Def video/movies from Final Cut Studio onto a Blu-ray disc and then playing that on a dedicated external Blu-ray player elsewhere.
Booting-up in Bootcamp for attempting to play-back Blu-ray movies using windows drivers, software and built-in OS kernels. (I'm not a Windows person, but can't deny it can save the day where some things are concerned)
Future-proofing; if one day soon Apple smiles on us all and releases a system OS update that enables 'full' Blu-ray support (or some other upgrade)

I have noted that on numerous wish lists for Mac enhancements has been Blue Ray capability.  I looked at the Fast mac web site and the specifications were impressive.  When I saw the price, I had to have the Heimlich maneuver performed.  This is not to dissuade you or anyone else to purchase one.  It simply is a reflection of my cheapness ex. for me SSD are overpriced for the value received but I take no issue for those who but them.
What I find to be very peculiar is the issue of apparent compatibility with only pre-unibody MBPs.  We know that these MBP are slower than the subsequent generations.  Blu-ray vidio files are huge. To load, tranferr, edit and compile these such files is best served with a fast processor.  To install this on an older MBP seem like simultanously  taking a step forward and a step backward.
Your list of virtues has merit but I have to take exception with your 'Future Proofing'.  Apple has a habit of going down the road less traveled.  If and when they integrate Blu-ray capability in their MBPs, it does not follow that the Fast Mac drive will be the same or have software compatibility.
I have both a pre-unibody MBP and a unibody MBP.  I have changed the optical drive on the old machine and I have just looked inside the newer one (when I upgraded the HHD).  They both APPEAR to be identical but I suspect there may be subtle physical differences.  Hence this may be the reason why it can be installed only pre-unibody MBPs. (I can be bribed to take the both out and compare them!)
I would suggest to contact the technical department at OWC and find out if they are familiar with this product and what opinions they may have.  I have dealt with them on several occasions and they seem knowledgeable.
    Ciao.

  • Blue sceen appeared after low disk space warning

Hi Everyone, just seen a message stating a low disk space on my Mac pro bought last November and tried plugging in an external hard drive to remove some pictures to free up some space but it seems that the computer did not have enough space left to start up and run the hard drive. I then tried to restart and ended up with a blue screen and have no knowledge now how to fix this problem. I phoned support but they say I have no technical support left but do have warranty and I would need to either try with the community here or take the unit to an apple store for an appointment. The store is an 1 and 1/2 from me and I really want o see if there is another fix that could allow me to start again then remove some files and then add external drive to remove more. I was blown away at the low amount of storage.....looked for the icloud option last night to upload there as i was told about this by a UK client of mine and now see it is not up and running. Any advice or help by the communtiy would be greatly appreciated as this is my business and travelling laptop. Cheers, Dean <")))><

    Hi Dean,
You may be able to access it via FireWire Target Disk Mode: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
If so, move and delete enough so you have at least 15% free space on the MBP's HD. After that, run Repair Disk:
First check the S.M.A.R.T. status on your HD: Boot from install disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down the c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language and click Continue > click on theUtilities Menu in the menu bar > select Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the left side (the name of the HD’s manufacturer and the model number, usually the top item in the list) > look at the bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says “Verified” (good) or something more ominous like “Failing.”
If S.M.A.R.T. status is "Verified," run Repair Disk > click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility (such as DriveGenius, TechToolPro, DiskWarrior) or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.

    Great to hear Dean, thanks!
Further notes: OSX needs about 15% or 10GB Free space minimum, but will run mucch faster/safer with 30-40% or 50GB of Free Space... Free Space is no longer ours to use.
Another tool to help clear up assorted things is Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • PowerBook G4 won't boot past blue screen

I've read a couple of posts with similar problems. The jist is, I did a security update/restart earlier and now my laptop won't boot past the blue screen after the white screen with the gray apple. I think I'm on Mac OS 10.4.11 but I had it on auto-update so that could be incorrect.
I've booted from the install disk and run a diagnostic from the First Aid bit in the Disk Utility. It says that there are no errors found and the S.M.A.R.T. status says "verified" as well. It won't let me boot into Safe Mode (although, I could be doing that wrong as I'm not exactly clear on how to do it - pressing S doesn't seem to do anything, but if I press Command + S it takes me to a text listy thing and I've run the "fsck -f" system check (which seems like the same as the disk utility check?) from there and also gotten the "volume is ok" message. There was also a suggestion to run some kind of diagnostic after booting with the D key from the install disk, but I was never able to get the disk to boot from the D key, only the C key.
I'm sure that this is kind of the "same song, different verse," kind of post, but I've not read about volumes registering as okay. I'm a little wary of a archive-and-reinstall as I've not ever done that before (so, if that's the suggestion you have, I would really appreciate loads of specifics on how that works so I don't mess up!)
I've read in several instances suspicion of a hard drive problem but I've not had any slow downs or any crashing. I did travel to the UK for about 10 days, but I didn't even change the time zone on my laptop while there, so I don't think that's it (but I suppose it could be.)
Lastly, I did recently replace my keyboard. A few keys had become non-responsive so I replaced it and have had the new keyboard for a bit over a month.
Suggestions? Ideas? Sorry if it's a repeat post -- just felt like the circumstance was a teensy bit different. And also, thanks very much for any info you can give.

    Linsey:
If you can boot your computer into Firewire Target Disk Mode and you have access to a second Mac that supports firewire, you may be able to back up items that have not been backed up previously.
If you are able to back everything up successfully, and you have tested your backup to be sure it is sound, then we can proceed with re-installation of the OS. The best option is to completely reformat and erase the HDD and then install the OS from disk. (I will post complete step by step directions). This will enable you to start with a clean slate/HDD. Your other option would be to use the Archive and Install option. Think it over and let me know how you want to proceed.

  • Travel workflow problems.

I apologize in advance for the length of this question.
When I travel, I carry a MB Air with OS X 10.9.1 and Aperture 3.5.1. I create managed Libraries on a 500GB EHD (or two).
I will certainly do some deleting and minimal editing.
When I get home I transfer the travel Library to my iMac (27" 2013, same configuration) desktop. I open the Library in Aperture but rebuild it first as this sometimes helps the below problem. I then merge the travel library to my present iMac Aperture working managed Library. (I create a new Library for each year on the iMac.)
Now I carry out my real editing etc. on the home Aperture. When I go to open my Projects there will be random images that have the dreaded yellow triangle, the files can't be found. If I reload that Project, once or sometimes more from the travel library I will often get rid of the triangle.
I just went through this with ten projects, last week. Finally all files were present and accounted for. However today out of the blue the warning badge showed up on all the images in one project. Having saved the travel library, I was able to reload that project and I have access to the images again.
For me what this means is that I have to store my travel Libraries even after thay are merged with my home Library. This is obviously a PITA and takes up space. My home Libraries are stored on a Drobo 5D. I never have that problem with images downloaded from a CF card to the home Library. If I go to "Find Referenced Files" it lists the missing images but I think it says they are on the Drobo. (Same thing however used to happen with my old Mac Pro System and WD EHDs.) Sorry I did not copy the field.
Any ideas as to what is going on? If it happens again should I just rebuild the home Library to see if the missing files will be found? Can I ever trust my system so that I don't have to keep all my (redundant) travel Libraries?

    SMB 2 wrote:
When you get the chance can you briefly outline your merging steps.
    Thanks.
Hi.  There are no steps  .   In my "master" Library I run "File➞Import➞Library" and select my travel Library.  If prompted, I select "Add".)  I do other things for hours.  When the merge is finished, I close Aperture, re-open it, and let it run unmolested overnight.  Then I close it again, reopen it, and look to see if anything is amiss.
More fully, when traveling I hew to the following:
(First let's change our terms.  I am now going to call my "master" Library my Home Library and the Libraries I use when traveling Travel Libraries.)
    Clean up Home Library
         Empty Aperture Trash
         Repair Database
Confirm that no Originals are missing; confirm that all Originals are where I think they are
Create new Travel Library     Select a few Images and run "File➞Export➞{items} as Library"
Move that Library to an EHD.  Rename EHD to match expected contents.
Prepare second EHD as back up for EHD with Travel Library.     Rename to match, e.g.: "Travel Library BU".
    Travel
    Record data
Import recorded data files into Travel Library
Back-up EHD before re-formatting camera cards !!  (I use SuperDuper and clone drives.)
Codify, tag, develop Images in Travel Library as time permits
Return home.       Travel Library EHD stays with me (along with cameras, etc.).  Travel Library back up EHD goes in checked bag.
Clean up Travel Library     (As above for Home Library)
Import Travel Library into Home Library     "File➞Import➞Library"
Let Aperture run with Home Library loaded, unmolested, overnight.  (Voodoo, but with some justification.)
Close and re-open Aperture.  Give it all the time it wants when closing.
    Confirm import
         All Projects and Images present?
Project descriptions and Image metadata intact and complete?
All Originals accounted for and where I expect them to be?
Back up Home Library using standard Home back up procedure
Relocate managed Originals to EHD dedicated to Originals of Home Library Images
Back up dedicated EHD using standard Home back up procedure
Back up Home Library again, using standard Home back up procedure
Erase EHD with Travel Library; erase EHD with Travel Library back-up     I have a working copy and two back-ups.  I confirmed that the working copy is good prior to backing up.  I erase the drives now, so that I won't hesitate to use them later.  (Three months from now I don't want to pick up the former Chile Travel Library EHD and ask myself, "Oh -- this has my files from Chile.  Is it OK to erase these?")
The principle is basic: always have two back-up copies, on separate devices, of all your files, and never have the working copy and both back-up copies in the same physical location.  When traveling, this is impractical, but the above is, imho, a good compromise.
Clearly that covers a good bit more than just merging, but I thought it might prove useful.

  • Re: Satellite C660-1LD Blue screen whilst trying to connect to the internet

I've been having a lot of trouble with trying to get my laptop to connect to the internet, when I was attempting to troubleshoot it, the blue screen appeared and it shut down, I didn't have enough time to read all of the information so I'm not really sure why it appeared. The laptop restarted and still couldn't connect to our wireless network, I tried numerous system restores which couldn't complete even though I tried it after I deactivated my AVG protection.
Eventually it connected and I was able to go on the internet for a short period of time with a very temperamental connection, it then disconnected again after about 15 minutes, I struggled to get it to connect again but when I eventually did the connection seemed fine and didn't drop.
I shut it down and when I turned it back on I had the same problem again, it wouldn't connect, the troubleshooter couldn't fix the problem, although a few times it identified the problem as a "problem with the wireless adapter". I tried everything I could think of, more system restores, re-installing the "network adapters" under the device manager, changing the power options to maximum for the wireless adapter and checking the the computer doesn't turn it off the save power, removing all wireless networks and then trying to reconnect to them. After about 2 hours I managed to get it to connect again after rebooting it in safe mode and the connection is fine now.
However I'm worried that I'm going to have this issue every time I turn my laptop on to go on the internet. I'm also very concerned about the "blue screen" that came up, it hasn't happened again and that was the first time I've ever seen one and I've been told by friends that its pretty severe and is known as the "blue screen of death". I don't know if this is anything to worry about or whether it was just a one off? Is it possible that my laptop could have some sort of virus or bug? Or a possible hardware problem? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm fairly certain that this is a problem with my laptop and not the wireless network as I can access the internet on my iPhone and the internet is working perfectly on all of my housemate's laptops.
    Thank you

No its the original OS that I bought it with, its only the wireless connection that it seems to struggle with, it seems to be working fine since I had the issue with the blue screen, and when I had that issue I tried it with other wireless networks and it still wouldn't connect to any of them.
Since then a few times its struggled to connect at first but has in the end, I'm concerned that something inside the laptop could have gone wrong being the reason for the blue screen and the dodgy connection to the internet as I've never had any hint of a problem with it before. My laptop is just over a year old and I do use it a lot and regularly take it out and about when I go to University and travel to and from my hometown, so could it be its just wearing out? As I once got told laptops don't have a particularly long life if you are always moving them and travelling with them.
    Thanks!

  • Help with non-Creative Travel Adap

I have a Zen Plus V 8gb player. I bought a Hammacher Schlemmer travel adapter/converter (00v-240v) with USB port for an upcoming trip around the world. I plugged the USB cable into the mp3 player, however the little battery wasn't indicating that charging was occurring.
Does anyone have experience with this adapter, or can think of a reason it wouldn't be compatible? I've received feedback that it works with recharging Ipods via USB. I'm concerned I received a defecti've unit because the USB light doesn't shine as bright as the AC light when "charging" items.
    http://www.hammacher.com/publish/73996.asp

Yes, I do see the blue lights fading in and out, so that did confuse me a bit. I probably didn't leave the player plugged in long enough to verify it was actually charging the battery a noticeable amount. Another problem that occurred was the converter/adapter has an auto-shutoff if it gets too hot. When I had the mp3 player hooked up, over about 20 minutes, a buzzing slowly became louder, until the adapter did the auto shutoff.
That worried me a bit given it can take 6 hours to charge the player, and?I'm going to be staying in public hostels where the?noise would be too likely to bother others around me.

  • I've just downloaded software -now have a thin blue line on my screen? pls. help.

I have just downloaded some software...when my computer restarted, it now has a thin blue line on the screen.  What's happened?

A: is it in all screens or just Chrome (unlikely)?
    B: reset SMC
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
C: Your LCD is highly likely NOT broken rather a signal feed hardware issue in the monitor cable that travels thru the hinge from the logic board.
D: make a screenshot and verify if the screenshot shows the same or not.
E: the LED backlighting is showing thru implying, of course, that the LCD feed for that vertical line is not being fed.
    Reset SMC and verify.
if same, you have either bad monitor cable or connection of same at junction with logic board.
At which point make appt. with Apple for diagnostic / service

  • USB727 Windows 7 x64 Blue Screen of Death BSOD

    Hi,
Every time I use my Verizon USB727 on Windows 7 x64, after removing, when I try and suspend (sleep) my laptop I get a BSOD. I have a Lenovo T500. I am running in NDIS mode.
This worked great under Vista x32.
If I shutdown my laptop before removing the adapter all is well, however I'd like to put it to sleep as I often travel from place to place and I like to resume my work where I left off. The issue seems to be Windows can't put the device into a sleep state and unload/suspend the Novetel drivers. Without using the USB727, I have no issues. The suspend will hang trying to suspend. Sometimes it will go back to locked screen. After 5-20 minutes the BSOD occurs and the laptop reboots itself.
Windows x64 Enterprise Edition -- all latest MS updates applied as of 12/18/2010
    VZaccess Manager v7.2.1.2 (2420b)
I have called support and all they can tell me is, there are no reported problems and I have the latest drivers.

    Hello Suzerain,
First of all, upgrade BIOS to the latest version, remove all unnecessary hardware devices from the computer and try entering Windows safe mode to test whether it is a third-party software/hardware compatibility issue. If so, please download and run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check the reason for the issue. If the issue is caused by some incompatible driver, you might go to Device Manager, right click your hardware device in the list and select Update Driver Software; then click Search automatically for updated driver software.
If you still get the BSOD error after installing the latest driver, please understand that Windows system uses separated user mode and kernel mode memory space, stop errors are always caused by kernel portion components, such as a hardware device, third-party drivers, backup software or anti-virus services (buggy services).
The system goes to a blue screen because there is some exceptions happened in the kernel (either the device driver errors or the service errors), and Windows implements this mechanism: When it detects some errors occur in the kernel, it will kill the box in case some more severe damage happens. Then we get a blue screen or the system reboots (it depends on what the system settings are).
To troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. A suggestion would be to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS
If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for regional support phone numbers.
I hope the problem will be resolved soon. Thanks!
    Andy
