Traversal field in XML Source of LiveCycle Designer files

Can someone explain to me how the Traversal field
in XML Source relates to the tab order for an entire PDF form?  Like in my form i have the following, but both have 70 in them, but different names (field vs draw), but i dont know how that relates to the overall tab order of the entire PDF.
<traversal><
traverse ref="#field[70]"/></
traversal>
<traversal><
traverse ref="#draw[70]"/></
traversal>

It tells where to tab to next - those are attached to a field and point to the next field to go to.
#field[70] and #draw[70] are field names in your form. I think those tags only show up if you start using custom tabbing order.
Something looks odd though - did you name your fields with "#" in front? I might be wrong but that may cause problems for some things (not tabbing per se) - someone else here can hopefully correct me or not.

  • Extension fields in forms using Adobe LiveCycle Designer and SAP Cloud Application Studio.

    Hello everyone,
    I am new to using SAP Cloud Application Studio and am currently working on forms.
    I have created some extension fields in the dunning letter form message type : FormDunning Notification.
    Upon activating, the extension fields do show up in backend form data type structure.
    However i am unable to find the fields in the front end form under Form Template Maintenance.
    I have tried opening form with open editor as well as downloading template and opening in Adobe LiveCycle Designer .
    After creating the data connection in adobe ,the first field (ProjNumDun ) do appear in correct place in data view.But i cant find the rest of the fields.
    Any help,guidance and suggestion will be really appriciated.
    Thanking in advance,
    Kamakshi

    Kamakshi,
    First, any extension fields added must be explicitly assigned to appear on the forms. Through Front-end Adaptation, this would be via the "Further Usage" link. Within the SDK, you'd right-click the XBO and select "Enhance Forms" (which would take you to the same screen as you'd end up at in through front-end").
    You must select "Add Field and Edit..." to actually assign it to the Form Template schema.
    Once this step is done, re-download the Form Template, and make sure to reload the Data Connection within LiveCycle. Through there, you should see your fields. You'll likely have to dig for them - they appear at the very end of the child elements.
    Note that, while fields added through the front-end have a long string appended to the end (for example, it would appear as "ExtensionField_1234AISU897234HJA" if added via front-end adaptation), the fields added via the SDK do NOT have the suffix (you'll be looking for an element with JUST the field name, i.e. "ExtensionField")

  • Editing Form Fields inside Acrobat? (after using LiveCycle Designer)

    Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended ==  Acrobat
    LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 == LiveCycle Designer
    =========================================
    Say I downloaded a new PDF from the interwebs.
    I want to add some forms fields so I go to Forms ==> Add or Edit Fields... (inside Acrobat)
    Now Acrobat will detect possible places where to add the form fields. I make changes etc. Then I am  satisfied with my form fields.
    Now say I want to remove a particular object from the PDF, lets take an image as an example.
    So I fire up  LiveCycle Designer; File ==> New ==> Import a PDF document ==>  Create an Interactive Form with a Flowable Layout.
    I remove that pesky little object.
    In LiveCycle Designer, I save the file as PDF.
    I open up Acrobat. I realize I need to make some more changes to some of the Form  Fields.
    But now instead of "Add or Edit Fields..." option I get "Edit Form in  Designer..."
    I hate the GUI of LiveCycle Designer --- I had rather edit the form  fields from inside Acrobat, as it is easy and fast to change multiple  form fields in a few clicks.

    Thank you Niall for the above response; Your response gave me an idea which allowed me to remove that line by zooming in to 200%
    You know Acrobat detects Form Fields for you.
    But many times it makes mistakes, for example in the screenshot below it made the boxes that came with the PDF as text fields instead of check boxes.
    The thing is rather than me delete the (form) fields it detected, and start over by making new check boxes, I will not be able to place my new check box in exact locations as Acrobat has done.
    When I imported the fields that Acrobat made into LC (by saving the PDF in Acrobat and then opening it with LC) I get option to change the Object Type from Text Field to Check Box when I right click the object.
    Is there a similar way to change the Object Type from Text Field to Check Box inside Acrobat? Any suggestions?
    ===========
    I would really like to do it inside Acrobat because then if I have to make some minor changes to some field properties, all my hard work which I did by filling the fields gets deleted, as I am forced to use LC. The text I add to the fields don't get deleted when I edit the field properties inside Acrobat. I don't know why LC decides to delete all the text which is filled out in the form fields even though the PDF is saved in Acrobat before being imported into LC?
    Here is the above PDF file with the text boxes:

    Again thanks for all your guidance so far.

  • Content of textfields is gone, when using LiveCycle Designer Version 8.2

    Hi there,
    I´m having a Problem with LiveCycle Designer in Version 8.2 (exactly 8.2.1.4029.1.523496). When It try to open a PDF-document containing an AcroForms-Form with some textfields, I can see all the textfields of the document, but their content (the text) is missing, I only see the empty fields.
    When I use LiveCycle Designer Version 8.1 (exactly 8.1.1.3021.1.438934) everthing works fine. The xml-sources produced by the two differnt LiveCycle-versions look different, too.
    Is there any known bug or something, which could explain this behaviuor?

  • We were using Adobe Livecycle Designer 7.0 for creating forms, what is new product replacement?

    We were using Adobe Livecycle designer 7.0 (circa 2004) for creating our own dynamic forms.  The program has since failed to work, we cant locate the old disk.  What is the new product replacement that will allow us to build new forms from scratch with our own fields and data collection?

    LiveCycle Designer no longer comes with the Windows version of Acrobat Pro, but it can be purchased separately (soon): http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/tools/designer.html

  • Error when attaching a remote XML source

    Hello,
    When I try and attach a remote XML source to my XSL file,
    Dreamweaver CS3
    tells me "Unable to locate or parse the XML source".
    The XML file in question is located at
    http://weather.yahooapis.com/forecastrss?p=UKXX0085
    - which is a fully
    functioning URL to an XML page - I can load it okay, and I
    can view the XML
    source.
    Why does Dreamweaver report that it cannot access it? If I
    open the source
    of that URL and save it as a .xml file and attach it to my
    XSL locally, it
    works just fine - so it works locally but not remotely. The
    source is likely
    to change frequently, so attaching a local XML file is not an
    option.
    If I ignore the Dreamweaver error message and use that source
    anyway, the
    browser just responds with "An error occured while loading
    XML document
    http://weather.yahooapis.com/forecastrss?p=UKXX0055".
    Error message was: A
    connection with the server could not be established ".
    The only thing I can think of is, the URL to the XML source
    doesn't end in
    ".xml" - but then again, hardly any XML sources on the web do
    so I can't be
    the first person who wants to try and incorporate one in
    their site like
    this!
    Any help appreciated!
    Cheers,
    D.

    Okay, now using this in a new file called web.config

    All is well - except, that restricts the app to people who

  • Xml source Reading

    HI all
    I have xml source in for each loop.
    when execute package getting error Like ...
    was unable to read the XML data. Root element is missing
    I think this comes due to having blank xml file.
    can anyone suggest me how can verify xml have root element or not before go to xml source.

    check if file size is empty before you go ahead with data flow task. You can do it inside script task by using
    IIF(System.IO.File.ReadAllText(<filename>).Length > 0,true,false)
    Set a  boolean variable inside SSIS from above value and use it in precedence constraint following it to check whether you need to execute data flow task with XML Source.
    Set precedence constraint option as Expression and Constraint and Set Expression as
    @BooleanVar == false

  • Livecycle Designer form distribution - bound fields blank

    PDF forms created in Livecycle Designer have bindings of some form fields and an XML data source (Livecycle Preview looks great).  When I make  user-like data entry into the form as it is displayed in Lifecycle  Preview, it behaves as I would expect at the user end after distribution . When submitted  from Livecycle Preview it generates an email with an attached XML  document representative of the entered data. My problem is that  switching back to the Livecycle  Design, saving the form, closing  Livecycle, opening the form in Adobe Acrobat 8, enabling usage rights in  Adobe Reader , and finally distributing the document, it arrives at the  user end and is displayed as it is in Livecycle Design View (None of the bound fields are visible and the flowable form is not "flowed". I looks exactly like the Licecycle Design View.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply. The user community has no import capability (forms are email-attached for opening using the free Adobe Reader). I want to populate the form from my end (Adobe Acrobat 8.13). I was under the impression that associating the form as follows was sufficient fo populate the form.
          File > Form Properties > Select Default Tab and at the Data File: prompt,  enter the name of a local XML document that binds to form fields
    Am I missing a step?

    Hi,
    You have the choice between xml or pdf, in later versions of designer you can choose with a dropdown on the email button Object palette, the "Submit As";
    In earlier version you had to edit the XML Source and change the format from xml to pdf (or vice-versa);

  • How to get LiveCycle Designer forms to ignore default text in fields when validating

    Hiya,
    I'm testing out Designer ES4 to build a simple form that's submitted via email.
    Everything is working except for my text boxes...  They are set up as required fields but because I've included default text with instructions, if you press submit without editing the fields they're not validating as empty and not throwing an error message.
    I’ve been searching the forums all day for a fix, but I’m too new to understand where to put code etc.  I’ve tried adding
    'text{!=placeholder}' in the validation pattern box but that doesn’t work…
    All I have is LiveCycle Designer and I’m on windows 7.  Thanks for your help!

    Thanks Bruce - this looks like exactly what I'm after!
    I have a really noob question though - where do I go to enter code?!  Below is a screenshot of what I'm looking at - can you please talk me through how to make your suggested changes?
    Do I do it on the 'xml code' tab or somewhere else?

  • Importing XML to Blank PDF Template;Form based on LiveCycle Designer 8

    Hello,
        I searched my questions and only thread closer to what i need is from 2012 and not sure is something have changes since then...
    I have rights enabled form designed in Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8 -Forms has few radio button,check boxes and date fields and email submit button(as XML).
    The plan is to send the send the PDF to users,who would then complete the form,email me updated as XML attachment and essentially I am collecting the data in form of XML instead of actual PDF.
    My application would need to read the XML and if some values-check box are set as true.I would need to save the PDF.
    I  need details of an API /SDK needed to achieve this essentially my application need to leverage this SDK,to import the data to blank PDF and save a copy to folder.
    As always thanks in advance..

    If you're looking to integrate the functionality into your application, you could license the Datalogics PDF Java Toolkit. Among other things, it has APIs that allow you to import and export XML to and from XFA forms.

  • Controlling XML output Livecycle Designer 8.0

    Hello.
    I am new to XML and somewhat new to LiveCycle Designer, however I have acclimated rather well.
    Here is what I want to do:
    1) Create a PDF fill-in-form (including various fields...text, numeric, radio buttons, and some FormCalc functions)
    2) Create a Submit button that emails an XML file to the form administrator
    3) Use MS Excel to import XML files into pre-mapped fields
    Basically, I do not have server database support, and this is the best workaround (and most functional) I could come up with.
    After mapping fields in Excel, I exported the *.xsd and created a new data connection within LiveCycle. Then, I linked the schema fields with the bindings - corrected any errors, and have tested the form (form1). I made the submit button - that's all good, too. When I import the XML into Excel - that's where I have a problem, and it's not an issue with Excel to my knowledge, but rather how the form generates the XML output.
    For example, I have 25 fields that will be outputted via XML. My PDF form consists of 4 pages (8.5" x 11"). When I created the form and got to the end of the page, I "inserted new page" and went on my merry way. When I import the XML, Excel properly maps the fields, however, it does not import the info to a single row. What I have discovered is that since my PDF form consists of 4 pages (each bound to "sheet[*]"), the XML output looks like the following:
    Example of the XML output from my form:
    <form1>
    <sheet>
    <submissionID xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    >743</submissionID>
    <reviewerID xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    >234</reviewerID>
    <date xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    >24/01/2008</date>
    </sheet>
    <sheet>
    <tag1>input</tag1>
    <tag2>input</tag2>
    </sheet>
    </form1>
    Wherever there is a "<form>" tag (hence a new page in my PDF document), Excel puts that data on a new column. All fields within form1 are imported and mapped to the correct field, however importing a single XML file will occur on 4 rows.
    I bound each "page" as "sheet[*]" mostly because that is the only way I knew how to use FormCalc to do calculations from fields that occur at different places throughout the document.
    So, I have tried to be as clear as possible, and would like suggestions/help as how to control the XML output from a LiveCycle document. If I am to modify the outputted XML and remove the multiple instances of <sheet> and </sheet> then Excel imports the data just fine and on a single row.
    I would love some help on this rather specific problem. I guess it's a very basic issue that someone with experience could help.
    Thank you so much!!
    Jim

    I have a vital form that clients fill out, which is passed to many people in the company along the workflow. The form is a Planner and we have in the following PDF, Word Doc..
    Well before, the Planner.pdf was originally created in Word, since most people have access to Word.. but evolved to a PDF form created from the Word Doc via Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.0 w/ User Rights enabled so that the form could be filled out and saved using Adobe Reader.. which was a step better than Word.. being that it is free. But this needed to be easier and more to the point b/c some clients don't particularly like installing the latest version of Reader, even if you provide them the link. Nor do they like saving the form, filling the form, and attaching the form to send back.
    My goal is to have the client fill an HTML version of the form, submit and be done with it, but everyone in the workflow be able to easily receive the filled Planner as a PDF form.
    So some months ago I ran into this post Chris Trip, "Populate Livecycle PDF from mySQL database using PHP" #8, 22 Sep 2007 4:37 pm
    which uses the command line Win32 pdftk.exe to merge an FDF file into an existing PDF on the remote server, and serve this to whoever.
    My problem was with shared hosting and having the ability to use the Win32 pdftk.exe along with PHP which is predominantly used on Linux boxes. And we used a Linux box.
    so i created the following unorthodox method, which a client fills the HTML version of the Planner, all field values are INSERTED into a table in MySQL DB, I and all filled planners that have been filled by clients to date can be viewed from a repository page where an XML file is served up of the corresponding client, but someone would have to have Acrobat Professional, to import the form data from the XML file into a blank form.. altoughh this is simple for me.. I have the PHP file already created so that when a Planner is filled and client submits. >> the an email is sent to me with a table row from the repository of the client name, #, email, and a link to d-load the XML file,
    But I also have the PHP files created so that the Planner can be sent to by email to various people in the workflow with certain fileds ommitted they they do not need to see, but instead of the XML file beiong served up i need the filled PDF Planner to be served.
    I can do this locally with ease on a testing server, but I am currently trying to use another host that uses cross-platform compatibility so i can use PHP and the pdftk.exe to achieve this, as that is why I am having to serve up an XML file b/c we use a Linux server for our website, and cant execute the exe.
    Now that I am testing the other server (cross-platform host), just to use them to do the PDF handling (and it's only $5 per month) I am having problems with getting READ, WRITE, EXECUTE permissions..
    Si guess a good question to ask is can PHP do the same procedure as the pdftk.exe, and i can eleminate it.
    or how in the heck can i get this data from the DB into a blank PDF form, like i have described??

  • Generate or Preview XML when Extending Reader Options using Adobe LiveCycle Designer

    Hi,
    I am trying to view the generated xml when reader options are extended. However, when I try to open the reader extended PDF in LiveCycle Designer, it says you will lose reader options. Is there any other way in which I can compare the generated XML before and after extending reader options?
    I am having issues processing PDF after extending reader options as the generated xml is generating the following error.
    "XmlException was unhandled by user code, Data at the root level is invalid. Line1, position1"

    May be you can try this way to get the XML before and after the Reader extensions.
    1) Place a Text field with multi line allowed.
    2) Place a button on the form with the following in click event.
          TextField1.rawValue = xfa.data.saveXML("pretty");
    3) Open the form in either Reader/ Acrobat and click on the Button. Save the XML data in a file that was assigned to the TextField.
    4) Reader extend the form.
    5) Repeat the step 3 again to capture the XML from the form after Reader Extensions.
    This way you can get the XML from the form before and after.
    Thanks

  • LiveCycle Designer 8 Saving Dynamic Field Problem

    Just updated to LiveCycle Designer 8 to get around the issue with my users not being able to save the PDF form data. Now my users can save the data using Acrobat Reader 8 but my dynamic fields are not working correctly.
    I have several fields that when you click a certain radio button or check a certain box, a previously invisible text field becomees visible. If one of those boxes is checked and data is entered in the now visible text field, then the users saves the form and reopens it, the data is saved but the field is invisible. Viewing the XML output confirms that the data is still there. When the form is reopened the checkbox that makes the field visible is still checked. But to see that data entered in the text field, you have to uncheck and then recheck the box to get the invisible field to become visible once more. Any idea on how to correct this "feature"?
    Thanks, Debra

    Hi Debra,
    To correct this 'feature', go in Form Properties > Defaults tab, set the Preserve Scripting Changes To Form When Saved option to Automatically.
    To correctly using Designer 7.x, youll have to write some script to achieve the same result. Currently, you have a script setting the fields state. All you need is to run the same script when the form is opened. In the example below, a form:ready script will execute the change event script when the form is opened. You can use the docReady event as well.
    For example:
    RadioButtonList: change event
    if (this.rawValue == "1")
    TextField1.presence = "visible";
    else
    TextField1.presence = "invisible";
    RadioButtonList: form:ready event
    this.execEvent("change");
    Hope this helps,

  • Can't select or edit text fields in LiveCycle Designer

    Greetings!
    I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I need to edit the header text in this PDF, so I tried to do that in Acrobat PRO, which said: "This form cannot be edited in Acrobat. Please use Adobe LiveCycle Designer to edit this form." I got a trial version of LiveCycle to see if I could edit it. But when I open the PDF in LiveCycle, I can only edit the input fields. All of the labels, all the text, headers is uneditable. I can't select it, I don't see it in the PDF Hierarchy either. Half of the Edit Menu is grayed out. Can't copy or anything else. Please help me figure out why this happens. If you need the original PDF, let me know, I can send it to you. Thank you.

    What happens when you try to edit the header? From Acrobat, when you open the "Tools" sidebar, is "Edit Document Text" grayed out/disabled? If you highlight some of the text, then right-click and select "Repace Text", do you get a popup warning about the form being interactive and having special features?
    In LiveCycle, I can't even select the text. The select box just goes right over it, and if it goes over buttons or input boxes, it does select them, but not the text or even the labels for the input forms.
    In Acrobat, I can click on "Edit Text & Images", but it tells me I need to go to LiveCycle. I don't see a "Replace Text" on right-click. There's "Edit Text", but it just tells me to take it to LiveCycle.
