Trex can't be updated to higher levels on windows 2003 server 64 bit

Hi gurus,
We have a portal system (EP 7.0 SP18) and a Trex 7.0 server which are
working on windows 2003 server 64 bit on the same server.
After upgrading our portal system from sp15 to sp18, we can not see
indexes on Index Administration screen. When we tried to create the
indexes from the beginning, we faced the message "An index with the samename already exists."
We thought that the level of the Trex server(25) is low which may cause
this problem and decided to update the Trex server to level 46. We
downloaded "TREX70_46-20001842.SAR TREX 7.0 REV 46" from
service.sap.com and tried to update Trex server according to
NW70_SPSTACK_GUIDE_SPS18.pdf.During the installation a warning
message "You started an installation of sofware for platform
i386, but SAPinst is running on platform AMD64" was given. When we
continued the installation, an error message
was shown in a message box."Running msiexec.exe failed with return code
1603:Fatal error during installation. Commandline was
msiexec.exe/norestart/L sapmmcx86u.log/i sapmmcx86u.msi/qn" I searched
the sapmmcx86u.log and the error message says that this installation
package is not for windows
2003 server 64 bit.
"This installation does not support 64 Bit Windows Operating systems.
Please use the corresponding 64 Bit installation package.
Action ended 8:26:08: LaunchConditions. Return value 3.
Action ended 8:26:08: INSTALL. Return value 3.
MSI (s) (10:84) [08:26:08:578]: Product: SAP MMC SnapIn -- Installation
failed."
We searched in OSS notes and found the note "Note 1021003 - TREX 7.00 -
Update Windows 2003 64-Bit installed from DVD"
.We did the things in the note but unfortunately nothing changed.
We tried the install revision 45,44 etc but we got the same warning and
error messages.
Any suggestions?

Hi Tolga,
You face with this error, because of Trex installation package is trying to install native i386 redistributables (vcredist_x86.msi) during the process. In order to patch Trex system on x64 architecture, follow the instructions, below;
1) Start sapinst, under your <TREX_PATCH> path
2) Ignore AMD64 warning popup
3) When popup appears on the "1603:Fatal error during installation." error, change temp folders on both environment variables, on my computer
4) Download and execute "vcredist_x64.exe" then run installer
5) After respective installation click on "Retry" button on error popup
At the end of this operation, your Trex patch will be succeeded. Please do not forget to undo your temp directory settings, on your Trex host. I hope that it is clarify your question.

    Hi ,
SAP instance running on Windows 2003 server , DB-oracle 10.2.0.4.
Currently we have 16 GB of physical memory and 12 gb of virtual memory set in the system. As the sap system is started immediately the paging goes high to 25 gb used.
Checked market place and found this note
Note 1009297 and implemented the windows patches given in the note ,still the issue exists. Please help to resolve the issue.

    OS:Windows 2003 server 64-bit machine. service pack 2
    Basis-Team .

have a look at note 1518419 because in meantime the reality is a little more complex.
note 88416 is still valid, but only if there is only one system on the box and if your pagefiles has 2-3 times the size of the physical ram of the box (which is litte too much if the box has 250 GB of it).
The reason why the system is using pagefile directly after startup is following:
SAP configures large portions of memory for caches and transaction memory for the users connecting to the system.
This amount is allocated during the startup of the system. Only some parts (so called privat memory) is allocated on demand.
This is the reason why the system needs so much virtual memory after being started up. How much - see note 1518419.

  • Can't connect my Mac to my Windows 2003 server shares via SMB

    Hello all
So my problem is I have my Powerbook running 10.4.7 with all the latest security updates and I cannot connect it to any shares on my Windows 2003 domain controller. Everything was working fine and I could connect to the server with no problem till about a month ago. However, I can still connect to the Windows 2000 domain controller with no problem. The error I get when trying to connect is "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct". I did try clearing out my keychain, making sure all of the authentication policies on the server are correct (disabling the digitally sign commucations always policy), and I even went as far as editing a .conf file in /etc/ folder that allows for passwords to be sent without any encryption (I forget exactly what I changed but I can post that later when I get home from work) and none of this has worked. I unfortunately don't have another mac to test out connecting to the Windows 2003 server. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do to try and get this issue resolved?

TO share out as afp you need to have file and print services for macintosh installed on the 2k3 Server.
O n the main management console click on the shares icon on the left. then click the "link" create a share. The wizard will guide you through the process. i forget the order of progression but i beleive its the second or third part in the dialog it will have 2 check boxes, the top one checked by default, is to share it for windows/smb the second (lower box) is to share as AFP for mac check this box and change the share name if you like. then proceed through the rest of the wizard. Make sure you configure the security/sharing prefs for access.. we typically remove the everyone policy and add one for Authenitcated Users, and ofcourse Administrators.

  • I can't download itunes 10.3.1 for Windows 7 64 bit

    I can't download itunes 10.3.1 for Windows 7 64 bit.
I tried the suggestion to delete existing iTunes before installing the updated version.
I receive a message that a file is in use when I try to delete iPOD.
I started Task Manager to stop services for iTunes as suggested but it is not listed.
    How do I install iTunes 10.3.1 for Windows 7 - 64 bit?

I got the same message about the network resource that I can't access.  The only difference is that I couldn't install Itunes 10.3 because I can't remove the old version of Bonjour.  I couldn't get rid of anything in add/remove programs, but I went into my program folders and deleted everything that had to do with Itunes.  I also ran a Windows Cleanup Utiltiy.  Nothing will work.  I still can't remove Itunes, Bonjour, Quicktime, MobileMe Control Panel, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, or Apple Software Update in add/remove programs because they are on a network resource that I can't access even though I deleted them from the program folders.  This is very frustrating!

  • DPM 2012 R2 agent update on Windows 2003 server x64 - Exchange

According to the release notes on http://blogs.technet.com/b/dpm/archive/2014/04/23/now-available-update-rollup-2-for-system-center-2012-r2-data-protection-manager.aspx the following workloads are supported on Win2K3 with DPM2012 R2 UR2:
    SQL 2005
    SQL 2008
    SQL 2008 R2
    SharePoint 2007
Does that mean protecting Exchange 2007 on Win2K3 is no longer an option after upgrading to DPM 2012 R2 (UR2)? It works on DPM 2012 SP1 but I need to know if it will continue to work after upgrading.
(This question follows on from this thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c425421b-b726-4125-82fc-beae8947722c/dpm-2012-r2-agent-update-on-windows-2003-server-x64?forum=dpmsetup which was marked as 'answered')

    Hi,
Yes, Exchange 2007 backup will continue to work. I think that due to the timeframe of the UR2 release not all workloads were able to be re-certified, thus the limit in supported workloads.

  • How to view failed updates on Windows 2003 Server ?

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me how I can view what Windows Updates failed and why, on a Windows 2003 server that uses Configuration Manager?
    Thanks
    Stuart

You won't find the solution in ConfigMgr. It has done it's job and the updates have been delivered. The fact that the updates cannot install is a Windows problem. You need to be looking at the EVENT logs.

  • High Pages out in Windows 2003 64 bit

Recently we've installed ten application servers to help our AS/400. We've moved all the users to the logon group and all uses only this servers.
As I said the central instance is AS/500 v5r3, the aplication server are Windows 2003 64 with sp1.The kernel is also 64 bit ( 640 unicode ). The sap release is 4.7 enterprise. The configuration of the server is:
    - 2 Opteron processor with two kernel each.
    - 16 Gb of RAM.
    - 20 Gb of paging file ( following the SAP recommendations ).
The sap parameters have also been changed. Using perfmon and the st06 transactions i can see that the page out is too high. Is any reason for that ? Any recommendation ?

no, not yet. But we will do, when we have a fix for it. Until then the situation is as it has developed in the past 12 Years:
The page out story is as old as SAP R/3 on Windows and related to the mechanism called extended memory within R/3 and Windows Memory Management. It is not a special issue to the 64 Bit Windows platforms.
In order to support bigger memory configurations on 32 Bit Windows and Linux extended memory (ABAP Memory) is implemented in a way that only the active user context of an ABAP user is part of a work process virtual address space. Before a work process processes a user request the memory pages of the user context (abap memory of the modus etc) are mapped into the work process virtual address space. At the end of the processing in the work process the context is rolled out - the related memory pages are detached from the work process virtual address space.
In Windows Memory Management this action (unmapping) is handeld in a similar way as the Working Set Trimmer works (which gets active when system comes in a short of memory state): unmapped unmodified pages where added to a standby list, modified pages are added to the modified page list. In all Windows versions the pagewriter will start cleaning up the modified page list (writing modified pages back to their backing store -pagefile- the page changes the status to unmodified and is added to the standby list) if the modified pages list contains more than a certain number of pages. The different Windows versions have different algorythms how many pages are written back to pagefile, but the threshold for starting the action is identically from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows 2003 Server Datacenter Edition for IA64: 800 Pages - or 3.2 MB (a very, very small number)
In the past Microsoft explains that the reason for this behaviour is related to prepare memory shortage situations: as long as the system has sufficient resources it will preventively page out modified memory pages in a moderately manner. In case of a memory shortage they can drop the pages off the standby list and can immediately use the physical memory for new memory requests, without first writing them to pagefile. When Windows 2003 was introduced we obtained a significantly higher pagout rate compared to Windows 2000. Microsoft explains this with the necessity of some changes in memory management caused of kernelmode locks we had in some configurations. As long as sufficient memory is provided these pagesouts should not be a bootleneck for the overall performance of the system, claimed Microsoft.
Comparing the situation today and 7 years (4.6C days) ago you can see, thattwo factors have changed dramatically:
    1. processor performance has increased rapidly.
    2. the average size of a user context increased in a similar way and with them the number of modified pages in a transaction.
but one thing did not change that fast: disk spead. capacity has increased a lot but the number of spindles, surfaces and RPMs are stil the same. So a random accesses to a 4k page needs nearly the same time as 3 years ago.
we have shown Microsoft where the problem sticks in their operating system by modifying the Windows Management variable which defines the modified page list maximum in the Windows kernel using the Windows Kernel Debugger.
It immediately brings down pageouts to 0 the overall pageout rate is reasonable.
It's like Doping: it helps a lot, but is completly unsupported and you can't oversee the side effects.
But you know: changing this part of Windows code needs extended testing - there is a lot of other software running on them - not only SAP and fixing this issue must not harm the performance of any other software (like Database, Exchange, Internet Information Server......).
Maybe it helps to open a message at Microsoft, in order to show them they have customers having some problems with the operating system performance.

I ended up putting it in DFU mode.  It's kinda hard to tell it was in DFU mode because nothing showed on the screen, it was just black, but the sounds from the computer helped to tell me it was connected.
Itunes still didn't recognize the device for whatever reason.
So I used redsn0w.  I don't know if I can say that on these forums, but considering itunes was worthless at this point I am going to give credit where credit is due.
Now I am giving itunes a second chance to upgrade to 5.1, if it doesn't work, well, back to redsnow and maybe I will even jailbreak it this time rather than just using the fecovery fix found under extras.

  • Can't install ITunes on Windows 2003 server (WHS box)

    Hi,
I can't install the latest ITunes because it incorrectly mistakes my Windows 2003 server as Windows XP. So after search I find that I can change the MSI files as according to this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2154140.
This seems to work for all MSI file sin the ITunes etup exe except for this: AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi. If I change the MSI LaunchConditions it gives my error 2229 no matter what.
So I'm stuck. Should I call Apple next?

I can't help you with the error you get, but just to clarify while iTunes isn't "officially" supported for use on Server 2003, it does work. Sort of. iTunes 8 could be installed by editing the MSI, iTunes 9 however while this method is still required you'll run into a problem with iPodService.exe crashing, and iTunes refuses to finish the install until that service is up and running.
There are a few topics on here that detail what you can do to get around this problem. I believe currently the only tried and tested method is to use the iPodService.exe from iTunes 8, doing a swap trick when the iTunes 9 service crash occurs so that you can at least get the application to install.
I can't be bothered to go to the trouble though. I'm interested in seeing if Apple will silently stop with the BS and just fix the installer's version mismatch errors (easily done), and fix iPodService.exe. The reason why the service crashes, according to what I've read, is because it seemingly misidentifies Server 2003 and similar OS's as Vista or Windows 7, and then begins calling functions for those OSs from ntdll.dll - which causes the crash.
As for your error, presumably that is with Orca. All I could find relating to the errors is something about transforming the MSI and language translations. It could also be because of an older version of Orca. Perhaps try and re-download iTunes, and extract the MSI packages again. But you should only need to edit the LaunchCondition for AppleMobileDevice.msi - and you don't need to delete the table either, you can simply change the number in NTVersion from 501 to 502, save the package and it'll all work. It did for me when I first tried it anyway.

  • OS 10.3.9 and Windows 2003 Server - Can't get to the network

My company just up graded from a Windows 2000 to a Windows 2003 server. I am lone Mac user. Yesterday, with Windows 2000, I had no trouble accessing several drives on the server. Now with this upgrade, I can't log on to any of the drives.
The IT folks are not that Mac savvy and they've tried a few things regarding security, but they're lost, and haven't found anything from Microsoft that helps. And I know nothing about networking. I've tried searching Apple but can't find anything specific to this problem. I can print to all the networked printers, just can't get to the drives.
Is there something we're missing here? Something in my System Preferences that we needed to adjust first?

Our Windows PC can search files on the server with no problems.
Please help! Any advice is appreciated!!

Same here. I'm seeing the same error.
When I look at my Windows share, I see that Pages is trying to create a folder with several subfolders: Data and Metadata, plus index.zip, preview-micro.jpg, preview-web.jpg, and preview.jpg files.
I don't think this is a Mavericks issue, although I upgraded to Mavericks and Pages 5.0 at the same time. I still have the older version of Pages. It works just fine.

  • Can oracle discoverer 10 be installed on Windows 2003 server

    Hi,

    1. Can Oracle Discoverer 4.1 version support Windows 2003 on which Citrix server version 4 or above is installed? If yes, please let me know the patch details to download the same.
    2. Can Oracle 10g BI Tool, Oracle Discoverer Administrator and Desktop be installed on Windows 2003 Server Operating System on which Citrix server version 4 or above be installed?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

    Hi,
    1. Discoverer 4.1 has been desupported but was only certified for Windows 200 and XP
    2. Discoverer Desktop and Admin is support on Windows 2003:
    2003 SP1+ 10g (10.1.2.0.2 )
One thing I have to mentioned is that Oracle does not support any Citrix client operations.
If ever you encounter a problem you will need to reproduce the problem
outside of the Citrix environment to prove that it is not the cause of the problem.
