Tricky CSS height property question

Hello,
Please have a look at my latest project:
http://www.sitebaker.org
As you can see I have split the background into three
seperate images, "notebook_top,jpg", "notebook_middle.jpg" and
"notebook_bottom.jpg". The notebook_middle image is repeated
vertically using CSS. The big pitfall of this however is that the
rings on the left never really match (Have a look on the bottom
left where the middle and the bottom images meet). Is there any way
to fix this? Is there any way to define that the middle image
always HAS to be a multiple of 49 pixels (the image's height)? That
would make the site look so much more professional...
I'm really lost here, so please help. Thanks a lot.

Take a look here - I think this is the best way to accomplish
something like
you have -
http://neapco.beyondunreal.com/film-clip-layouttest.html
Pay attention to the way the divs are arranged.

  • CSS height property use in Fluid grid layout

    Hi, I'm totally new to fluid grid layout and just got started in it. I have a div tag that has 5px height and I sucessfully applied that and seem fine only on Tablet landscape (1024x768) and Small tablet landscape (800x600), nevertheless it isn't even displaying on Mobile portrait (320x480), Mobile landscape (480x320), Small tablet portrait (600x800) and Tablet portrait (768x1024).

    I really do appreciate your efforts to help me solve this problem... Thank you in advance

    Height is determined by content.  I can't think of a single reason to have a div height of 5px because almost nothing will fit inside that small a space without problems.
    As to why it doesn't show up in other devices, you must have put that style into the Tablet CSS code instead of the default Mobile CSS code.
    Fluid Grids build up from Mobile (applied to everything) with specific rules for Tablets, then Desktops.
    Best advice, use Fluid Grids for layout only.  Use a separate CSS file for content styles.
    Hope this helps,
    Nancy O.

  • IView "automatic" height property problem

    Hi SDN,
    very annoying one ....
    I have "km document iView" pointing to html file.
    my user is editing the html file (add \ remove line ) so ... basically, my user determine the iView height (the height of the iView is determine by the lines number the user wrote ... )
    Height property is set to "Automatic" .
    all work fine !
    But , when I put this iview in a page with another iview [vertical order (one above the other ... )]
    the "automatic" height stop working ....
    the iview height is not changing dynamically  .... it always in the same Height .. with scrollbars ...
    Any ideas why ?
    I just want to get the effect of the "automatic" height  of the iview within a page ...
    10x in advance,

  • Htmltext, images and css' display property

    Hi all,
    I've got two questions; one about whether or not something is
    natively
    possible in Flash and another if there is a free or
    commercial component
    to fix the problem.
    I know CSS/HTML in textfields is one of the weak points of
    Flash, but I
    still would like to clear something up (couldn' find a
    definitive 'not
    possible' through google).
    I'm trying to display images from HTML/XML as block through
    CSS in a
    dynamic textField but can't seem to get it to work. I kinda
    doubt
    whether it is possible at all...
    I've tried too many variations to display one piece of code
    which fails,
    but it boils down to:
    * I load XML in which headings, paragraphs and images
    (usually within a
    paragraph) are set.
    * I load CSS (or generate with AS for that matter) which
    set's the
    properties of the various tags.
    * Images always display inline even if just one single char
    fits beside
    it in the field. If nothing really fits beside the image,
    Flash still
    places text there which is then hidden from the reader. All
    attempts to
    have the image's display set to block fail. Also if I try
    through a
    surrounding p-tag.
    I tried all from XML.ignoreWiitespace,
    TextField.condenseWhite, adding
    p-, and br-tags. It just won't work.
    If there really is no (why not?!) possibility to have it done
    natively,
    does anyone know of a solution (paid or free) done
    previously? I can
    think of some ways to make a start, but kind of don't have
    the time to
    make a really thorough effort...
    Thanks in advance?
    Manno Bult
    http://www.aloft.nl

    OK, kind of 'fixed' this one:
    * parse HTML/XML for contained img-tags
    * added id attribute if not present
    * place HTML/XML in field
    * get reference to loader object associated with the image(s)
    through
    TextField's getImageReference() method.
    * aad eventListener to it
    * on INIT or COMPLETE: retrieve height of image/loader object
    * insert multiple paragraphs after image so that next actual
    text
    appears below image. Multiple paragraphs are inserted to
    accomodate the
    useage of scrollV for field, otherwise (one big paragraph)
    image would
    be considered as one line and scrolling would look strange...
    Inserted
    paragraphs have a set leading style so the number of
    paragraphs to
    insert can be calculated.
    ugly but for me it works (at the moment). Anyone any better
    solutions?
    kind regards,

  • CSS layout - two questions on sidebar

    So I'm having trouble with my sidebar:
    site
    1. I want to get it to stretch to the bottom of the div it's
    in, with a 10 px margin on the bottom, basically, stretch exactly
    the same distance down as the main content div. I get the
    impression this is tough in CSS, but there has to be some work
    around? I don't think I can use faux columns in this instance,
    though if it's possible please explain how.
    2. This isn't really a big deal, but it'd be nice to have a 1
    px black line on only the left side of my sidebar (I have one drawn
    onto the actual images, it'd be nice to do that in CSS). Is this
    possible?
    Thanks a lot and sorry for the beginner questions.

    I have another question about the same site. In IE I'm
    getting this:
    pic
    In Firefox I'm getting this:
    pic
    Firefox is much closer to what I want, but I'm not sure why
    IE is showing up like it does. Seems the margins are changing and
    IE is padding my sidebar for some reason. Any ideas?

    how do i fix it though? can make corrections in the code and send me the code?
    It's not fixable. If you do not know how to use static <divs> then you might want to consider using a table stucture for the construction. Whilst not the ideal way to go tables do work in conjunction with one another.
    You can only really use abosolutely positioned <divs> for  a simple website which has say a header and 2/3/4 columns and no footer. As soon as you try to include a footer the absolutely positioned column <divs> can't recognise it's there so any content in them does not push the footer down.

  • Beginner CSS multiple stylesheet Question...

    Hi,
    I am a complete beginner. I've followed through the Dreamweaver beginner 'Check Magazine' tutorial to create a site and it's straghtforward. My site is small, a tourist guide, basically a three column/main image homepage like the tuotorial and then around 25 pages featuring different places with identical main column and a thinner right column layout. (I've created a template for the 25)
    My question is regarding CSS stylesheets. Now obviously I have used the CSS stylesheet to set the size and background colour etc of my Div Columns in the homepage as in the tutorial. But my 25 pages have different column widths and background colours to the homepage. Do I need to create a seperate stylesheet for each page?
    Or does each div column get a different name on each page? (div#right_column 1,2,3 etc) Or I need to learn another step?
    I've looked in the beginner guides and they all explain one stylesheet, but don't elaborate for when you start adding new pages and want to edit them.
    I know I have a lot to learn! But I don't want to go further learning a bad habit or misunderstanding and wasting a lot of time when a simple answer would really help me at this stage. It's fine if someone knows a good guide or tutorial that covers this that they can link to as well.
    Thanks in advance!

    If I understand this correctly, your home page is the only one that has unique styles.  The other 25 site pages share the same styles.
    Create one external stylesheet for the 25 pages.
    Use embedded CSS on the home page for styles that are specific to that page.
    Embedded CSS goes in the HTML document between the <head> and </head> tags like so.
    <style type="text/css">
    unique page styles go here....
    </style>

  • CSS load balancing questions

    I hope that someone can help with 2 simple (i think) CSS questions.
    1. When configured properly for load balancing, should the CSS round-robin between servers or will it continue to use only one server until triggered by some event or parameter?
    2. If 1 of 2 load balanced servers fails, how does load balancing proceed? Will it continue to try to load balance between the servers or will it give up on the failed server unitil some event or timeout occurs?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eliot

    Hi Eliot,
    The CSS can be configured to perform load balancing in a variety of different ways. Least connections, round robin, ACA etc. Each new connection through the CSS will be round robined over each of the servers in your server group.
    If a server fails then the CSS will know it has failed through the use of keepalives (based on TCP connection, ICMP etc) and no longer send requests through to that server. Traffic associated with a previous connection to the failed server will be sent to on of the surviving servers. It is then up to the behavior of the application as to if the user experiences any disruption.
    Hope this helps
    Brett

  • Some nagging CSS image rollover questions

    Hi,
    I'm using DW CS4 here. I finally got a Top Horizontal Inline CSS navigation to work with CSS image rollovers. Here's the site:
    http://www.brightbeltmusic.com
    And here are my questions:
    -Why, when my original images are 90 px  wide x 30 h, do I have to cut the width in the code to 84 px to make things line up?
    -I can't seem to set the images by obvious pixel widths - any little thing throws the whole navigation onto the next line and so I have to set the 'Up' image as a repeating background, while shortening the actual image link itself. Is this right? It seems to "work" here but maybe barely.
    -Padding seems to always be set in 'ems' - so how many pixels are in an 'EM' ? This is so I can figure out the width issues I always seem to have when I want horizontal rollover images...
    -Margin for a # ul apparently effects the very end/outside of the list....Is there such a thing as margins for the individual # li ?
    I guess I need a good pointing to a image rollover tutorial for Horizontal inline navigation.
    Many Thanks for any help. It just seems like I play a guessing game on the pixel details when I'm trying to construct these types of mavigation.
    Thanks, Frank B.

    Probaby because you are not taking into account padding, borders and margins which add to the width of the container/s

    Mathematicis is critical to the set up. As stated padding and borders, margins etc add to the overall width of a container. So if the containers are too wide to fit in a specific width they will be thrown to the next available space, usually to the next line.
    Example: a container which is set at a specific width of 90px and has padding left and right of say 8px is really 106px wide. Therfore if you're trying to allocate space for 6 buttons where each is 90px wide and has 8px padding left/right you need to allocate a space 6 x 106px plus any borders.

    Personally I would never recommend setting padding in ems. Certainly ems and px don't mix and match very well.

    li's do have default padding and margins set so these need to be zeroed out.
    li {
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    As an experiment copy all the code below, open a new Dreamweaver document and paste it into code view, save it to your site folder with the name navigationTest.html. Run it through a browers and see what the results are like.

  • Bug in Graph Legend Height Property

    Hi All,
    I am trying to set the height of the graph legend via property node and it seems it is not setting it to the input value. I set the value of the height and read it back and they do not match.
    Is it a bug in the property node?
    I have attached the vi to this post. Pls take a look at it.
    Thanks,
    Ritesh

    I don't think it would be a bug.  The legend height probably needs to be some multiple based on the font size of the legend.

  • Subform minimum height property minH not working

    Hi,
    I am trying to set the minH property of a subform, so that it is always the same size as the content area that it is sitting in.  This is because it has a border around it - I want the resulting box to be the same size regardless of whether the table data fills it up or not.  However this is having no effect - when I have less than one subform's worth of data the box is still shrinking.
    I can specify the subform as Positioned, with a height of 12cm.  This does the job when there is only one page of data, but when the table overflows onto the second page, the subform (including border) is still fixed at 12cm when I want it to potentially stretch down the whole page (20cm).
    In the Subform Form Ready event I have the following Javascript:
    this.minH = "12cm";
    What I was hoping would happen is that the subform would always display a minimum of 12cm on the first page, and on the subsequent pages it would be at least 12cm and expandable up to the maximum content area height of 20cm.
    I am using LCD ES version 8.
    Thanks,
    Vindaloo

    why don't you just put a border on the subform itself?
    I already have a border around the subform - the problem was that it shrinks with the data, when I want it to be a fixed size on the first page and expandable on subsequent pages.
    The minH property seemed to be exactly what I was looking for, except that it had no effect whatsoever.
    Anyway, I have solved the problem by putting a fixed rectangle of the required size on each master page, rather than trying to use a variable height border around the subform in the Design view.
    Thanks,

  • Content rule Content CSS 11 500 question

    I have the following question, the port number in a content rule is this the port to witch the content switch forwards or to witch he listens on.
    Suppose i have an url www.myname.org
    when i receive this on the content switch i want to redirect it to the backend on port 8080. How can i do this.

    Frederik,
    Your content rule is what we call a Layer 5 Content Rule since it has a HTTP URL field in its matching criteria.
    This means the CSS will be listening for traffic that is heading towards VIP Address 10.5.1.1 on port 40918 AND that it matches a certain URL. This URL in your case is "//domain.be/*".
    When traffic is initiated to VIP 10.5.1.1, the CSS will use Layer 5 information such as the URL included in the client requests to match the traffic to this content rule.
    When you use a browser to access this desired page, your DNS will probably return 10.5.1.1 for domain.be, telling your browser to make a request to VIP 10.5.1.1 and URL "//domain.be/*".
    Please take a look at this link for more information.

  • The css transform property is not working in the new firefox. I have used -moz-transfrom and it was working just before the last update.

    Here's the code that no longer works. The buttons scale down in all other browsers but stopped working after the latest firefox update.
    .bigButton:hover{
    -moz-transform: scale(.95) rotate(0deg) translate(0px, 0px) skew(0deg, 0deg);
    -webkit-transform: scale(.95) rotate(0deg) translate(0px, 0px) skew(0deg, 0deg);
    -o-transform: scale(.95) rotate(0deg) translate(0px, 0px) skew(0deg, 0deg);
    -ms-transform: scale(.95) rotate(0deg) translate(0px, 0px) skew(0deg, 0deg);
    transform: scale(.95) rotate(0deg) translate(0px, 0px) skew(0deg, 0deg);
    }

    For some reason, skew() was removed in Firefox 14. You need to replace it with skewX() and skewY(). See https://developer.mozilla.org/En/CSS/transform for the syntax.
    Edit: I wrote "for some reason" but what I should have said was "skew() is not in the standard, so it was removed, but I don't know why it was removed ''right now''."

  • Error in MovieClip.height Property

    I've found that Flash inserts an extra area around objects
    drawn in a MovieClip. This causes problems when trying to scale an
    object to match a desired pixel size. To see the error, try this:
    Create a new MovieClip symbol and export for ActionScript.
    Create a new rectangle object inside the new MC symbol.
    While editing the MC, select the entire rectangle and, in the
    Properties panel, set the height to 50.0
    In AS create a new instance of it and set scaleY = 10.0 and
    turn on its opaqueBackground as shown in code snippet below:
    var test_mc:MovieClip = new Symbol6();
    trace(test_mc.height);
    addChild(test_mc);
    test_mc.opaqueBackground = 0xdd0000; // shows that the movie
    clip actually extends beyond the visible portion and when scaling
    more than 2x that adds up to a lot of pixels
    test_mc.scaleY = 10.0;
    You will see that the trace statement reports the height as
    52, not 50 and you will also see a thick red border surrounding the
    drawn rect. This spurious addition of two pixels introduces errors
    when trying to calculate scaleX/Y properties in code to match some
    desired dimension.
    David Salahi

    yes this is a known issue with flash and it is completely to
    do with the width of the stroke surrounding your rectangle. you
    will notice if you remove the stroke from your rectangle, or select
    no stroke(the square with a red diagonal line), test_mc.height will
    be traced as 50.
    when the flash ide reports a symbol height, it ignores the
    width of the stroke around the edges, while actionscript adds the
    width of the stroke/2.
    so the formula for determining the height of a rectangle for
    example, would be:
    rectangle height in AS=height returned by
    IDE+(strokeWidth/2)*2
    we multiply by 2 for the top and the bottom. or a simpler way
    of putting this would be:
    rectangle height in AS=height returned by IDE+strokeWidth
    or in your case:
    rectangle height in AS(52)=height returned by
    IDE(50)+strokeWidth(i'm betting your rectangle has a strokeWidth of
    2)
    i went into this in more detail last year
    in
    my blog
    i'm not sure exactly why you're seeing a thick red border.
    the only thing i can think of is that you're rectangle's stroke is
    transparent.
