Triggering PXI-board: Intermittent failure?

Hi, Everyone!
I'm trying to perform sampling from two boards at the same time. One board is an ordinary PCI-6224 and the other is a PXI-6229 located in our PXI-system. After a lot of trial and error (and some help from these discussion boards) I succeded performing sycnchronized continuous sampling from both boards by using the VI attached. It exports the master clock to a pfi-port and this signal is taken in by the pxi-board through another pfi-port and a physical wire.
Apparently, the VI manages to trigger the pxi-board, but not every time. Looking at an array indicator while running my main program I se that the channels from the pxi-board "drop out" perhaps one in four times. Any idea what cause this behaviour? I'm an amateur in LV and can't figure this out myself.
regards,
Einar

Hello!
You could implement some real HW triggering in order to fully synchronize the boards. Please look at shipping examples and examples on our website where you can see SW triggered and HW triggered examples. If you look at these examples you will also see how they make parts of the code execute in a specific order using the error cluster.

  • PXI-board only returns perfect sine wave

    Hi, everyone!
    This is a strange one:
Im peforming synchronized sampling from two boards; one is a PCI-6224 in my computer and the other a PXI-6229 located in our PXI-system. Being a rookie when it comes to labview, I was quite proud of myself for managing this all by myself. However, when i looked closer at a 10 sec test-record I noticed something peculiar. Although none of the 32 (differential) channels had inputs during the recording, the PXI-board returned 16 perfect 1 Hz sine waves with exactly the same amplitude as the measurement range. Attaching a signal to the terminal block didn't alter this. The PCI-board returns only weak 50 Hz (power network) noise, as expected. What is going on ??
I'm using a PXI-1031 chassis together with a PXI-8184 controller connected to the PC with a network cable. I trigger the pxi-board by sending the PC-clock through a PFI-port and a physichal wire.
    regards, Einar

As I said, I haven't used LabVIEW 8 all that much. It's a bit tricky: you'll have to make a new Project, add the PXI as a new Target, and the add the VI you're trying to run underneath the new target. The last time I was playing with this I also had to open some ports in the Windows XP firewall.
If this is all a bit much for you, you might have a PXI controller that is configured to dual-boot both LabVIEW RT and Windows XP. If you reboot the controller in Windows XP mode, you can then access the PXI-6229 in the same way you currently access the PCI-6224... provided you don't mind copying the VIs over and hooking up a mouse, monitor, and keyboard to the PXI.
Switching from LV RT to Windows XP is most easily done by selecting the appropriate option in the PXI's BIOS. Check your PXI controller's manual for details.

  • Anyone have experience installing and running the Condor Engineer QPC-1553 PXI board

Do anyone know how to installing and running the Condor Engineer QPC-1553 PXI board using their LabVIEW drivers?

    Hi CEY,
as far as i know there are many documents with it.  Install it like every other hardware. To test it there is a program from Condor Engineer. To build your application, there are good example for BC, BM and RT.

  • Unreliable access to PXI boards

I am using a PXI-1033 chassis with PXI-5405, PXI-6541, and PXI-5105 connected to a PC via PCI-PXI 8331 MXI.  The first time I loaded the drivers and software, then turned off the PC (Windows 7), then I switched on the PXI-1033 and all of the boards were identified and access LEDs turned on.  Several days later, when switching on the PXI-1033, the chassis powered on successfully and was linked, but the PXI boards' access LEDs never turned on.  I tried several times switching on and off in different orders with no success.  Each time, the devices showed up in device manager, so I tried re-installing the drivers.  That day the devices worked correctly again.  But now, 1 week later, the access LEDs do not turn on!
I need a solution that doesn't require reinstalling all drivers everytime I want to use the devices.
    Thanks!

    Hello rpfrancis,
When the access lights on your modules are not turning on, do the cards themselves still function (can you get input/output from them)?  Do the devices still show up in MAX?  You are correct in turning on the PXI-1033 chassis first.  You will always need to boot the chassis first, then the PC.
Also, have you taken a look at the troubleshooting section of one of your module's user manual?  There is a section about access LEDs not turning on that gives steps to try to fix the issue.  It sounds like you may have already done a couple of the steps, but I recommend trying the each step in the manual.  Let me know!

  • PXI 6133 harware failure

We have a PXI-1042Q computer chassis with 4 PXI-6133 data acquisition boards installed. All of the four boards were working. One day in last week, it seems like one of them stopped working. When I turned on the computer and the "Measurement&Automation Explorer"->"Device and Interfaces"->"PXI-6133XI1Slot6"->"Test Panels", it showed "Hardware failures, do you want to continue?". Then I clicked "yes" and entered the test penel. I clicked "start" then it showed error. The error message was: "Error-50152 occured at test panel. Possible reason(s): a hardware failure has occured. The operation could not be completed as specified".
The other three boards is still working. Ii tried swapping the board in slot 6 (which is not working) with the boards in other slots. The working boards were still working fine but this board still didn't work.
Could anyone suggest what could be the reason and what should we do in this situation? We need all the boards to work for taking a complete set of measurements. We purchased the system about 10 years ago. The board which is not working was purchased probably 6 years ago.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.
    -An

    wohoho,
Just to confirm, you tried swapping out this card into other slots to try and see if it receives data? Additionally, do you have a spare card that you could use in the mean time that can collect data to confirm the malfunction of the card? Can you try to test the card in a different chassis as well?
If all these cases come back negative, it seems as though the card is broken and non functional. How this could have happened, there is really no telling. Age, constant usage, power surge, physical damage, and/or the environment are all possible reasons.
You can call into National Instruments Support line and create a service request to try and get the hardware repaired.

  • Triggerring PXI-4110 to measure 1 current value while HSDIO PXI-6552 generating waveform

    Hi,
Some question about PXI-4110 to measure current while PXI-6552 is generating the waveform.
    1. Let say, I need to measure 3 points of current values, i.e. while PXI-6552 is generating sample-1000, 2000 and 3500. On the edge of sample 1000,2000 and 3500, the PXI-6552 will send a pulse via PFI line or via PXI backplane trigger line. My question is, is it possible to trigger PXI-4110 (hardware trigger or software trigger) to measure current values at these points ?
    2. Let say I need to measure the current on 0ms (start of waveform generation by PXI-6552) , 1ms, 2ms, 3ms, 4ms... and so on for 1000 points of measurement, code diagram as shown at the figure below. It is possible for the VI "niDCPower Measure Multiple" to measure exactly at 1ms, 2ms, 3ms .. ? How much time will have to spend to complete acquire 1 point of measurement by "niDCPower Measure Multiple" ?
Thanks for viewing this post. Your advice on hardware used or software method is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi engwei,
    1. Unfortunately, the 4110 does not support hardware triggering. Therefore you cannot implement direct triggering through the backplane or anything like that. However, there are a couple of possible workarounds you can try:
    a) Use software triggering: Say your 6552 is generating in one while loop, and your 4110 is to measure in another while loop. You can use a software syncrhonization method like notifiers to send a notification to your 4110 loop when your 6552 has generated the desired sample. This method, however, will not be very deterministic because the delay between the trigger and the response depends on your processor speed and load. Therefore, if you have other applications running in the background (like antivirus) it will increase the delay.
    b) Use hardware triggering on another device: If you have another device that supports hardware triggering (like maybe an M-series multifunction DAQ module), you can configure this device to be triggered by a signal from the 6552, perform a very quick task (like a very short finite acquisition) then immediately execute the DCPower VI to perform the measurement. The trigger can be configured to be re-triggerable for multiple usage. This will most likely have a smaller time delay then the first option, but there will still be a delay (the time it takes to perform the short finite acquisiton on the M-series). Please refer to the attached screenshot for an idea of how to implement this.
    2. To make your 4110 measure at specific time intervals, you can use one of the methods discussed above. As for how long it will take to acquire 1 measurement point, you may find this link helpful: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/7034
This article is meant for the PXI-4130 but the 4110 has the same maximum sampling rate (3 kHz) and so the section discussing the speed should apply for both devices.
Under the Software Measurement Rate section, it is stated that the default behavior of the VI is to take an average of 10 samples. This corresponds to a maximum sampling rate of 300 samples/second. However, if you configure it to not do averaging (take only 1 sample) then the maximum rate of 3000 samples/second can be achieved.
It is also important to note that your program can only achieve this maximum sampling rate if your software loop takes less time to execute than the actual physical sampling. For example, if you want to sample at 3000 samples/second, that means that taking one sample takes 1/3000 seconds or 333 microseconds. If you software execution time is less than 333 microseconds, then you can achieve this maximum rate (because the speed is limited by the hardware, not the software). However, if your software takes more than 333 microseconds to execute, then the software loop time will define the maximum sampling rate you can get, which will be lower than 3000 samples/second.
I hope this answers your question.

Did this issue happen to multiple response group?
Did this happen to calls from PSTN calls?
This problem is mostly related with network issue.

  • NI-DAQ 6.9.3f4 doesn't work with 6025E PXI board.

The PXI 6025 board will do single point aquisitions but won't do waveform aquisitions with NI-DAQ 6.9.3f4. The software would also crash the system when trying to run the test panel in Measurement and Automation. After reinstalling 6.9.1f28 it worked fine.

    Hi,
I did all that. I completely uninstalled NI_DAQ (twice I don't think it installed correctly the first time). I removed the 6025 card. I reinstalled NI-DAQ 6.9.3f4. Rebooted. Shut down and installed the 6025 board and booted up. Measurement and Automation sees teh board but now the test panel is disabled and when I try to recompile the LabView that was working withthe older NI-DAQ I get an error that says "A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed." The same thing happens in the DAQ Solution.
During all this the 4060 DMM board got lost and Measurement an Auto. doesn't recognize it anymore. I've have reinstalled NI-DMM.

  • HP Pavilion p6510f Desktop intermittent failures - Antec 25 430 WATT Power & NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 650

After installing a new power supply and video card (Antec 25 430 WATT Power & NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 650), my system became unstable.  It worked fine for the first 3-4 hours then had a BSOD (blue screen of death) with kernel_data_inpage_error 0000007A and later a critical process failure 000000F4.  I've done all of the tests listed on this page as well as removed and replaced the cmos battery:
    http://www.faultwire.com/solutions-fatal_error/KERNEL-DATA-INPAGE-ERROR-0x0000007A-*1137.html
All of the tests passed and no problems were found and yet the system still fails after 3-4 hours of use.
So, I removed everything from my system and restored it to it's original settings.  It seems to be back to normal now (but, we'll see for how long).
This experience has demoralized me.  This is due to the fact that I've heard of others having difficulties trying to upgrade their systems.  Seems like there is about a 50% success rate unless you know what works from past experience.  I feel that the only way to get a system that has good graphics now is a well tested gaming box (PS3, XBOX, or Wii).  Is there any recommended or possibly well tested setups for this type of system that could give me the quality of a GEFORCE GTX 650 without causing blue screens or cause instability for my computer?
Since this computer comes with ATI and AMD parts, I presume maybe getting an ATI or AMD graphics card would work?  Regardless of the graphics card, the 250W power that comes with this system would most likely need to be replaced.  Are there are any power supplys that you recommend or possibly tested?
I realize there are a few questions in this post, but I have one more.  Are there any motherboard analysis tools to enusre nothing has gone wrong with the mother board?  When the blue screens were occurring it seemed to make strange noises from the hard drive as it it were thrashing and after rebooting it would sometimes fail to recognize the existance of the hard drive as well.  Since all of the hard drive tests were successful (I also ran SeaTools), this leads me to believe that the power is inssuficient, but I'm now fearful that if I upgrade the power it will only cause more problems.
    A paying customer,
    Zintage
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

So, using the standard setup still makes strange noises at various intervals, but not as frequently.  I have a bad feeling that it has caused disk drive problems based on the fact that:
    1)  Strange noises are now occuring during particular load times (although rarely)
    2)  Computer crashes (although, it no longer crashes now that I'm back in it's regular setup)
    3)  Occassionall it has really slow access times
These symptoms fall into the category of a failing drive based on the following site:
    http://www.lifehack.org/articles/technology/how-to-tell-when-your-hard-drive-is-going-to-fail.html
I'm going to return the power supply and game card and look to investing in a new hard drive in case this one finally decides to go to valhalla.

    Hello,
I am having problems with my Apple Mail and Google Apps and I don't know what to do.  I have been using apple mail with google apps for a few months now with no complications.  In the last week I have recieved a handful of messages from the Mail Delivery Subsystem citing error "554 554 Denied". I know that the emails I have tried to send to are real emails and are entered correctly. I tried to send directly from google apps to one of these people today and it worked so I assume the problem is with Apple Mail, or is intermittent. Adding to my frustration is that it works with some people and not with others so it's hard for me to see exactly what is causing the problem.
    Any ideas?
I'll include a copy of one of the Mail Delivery Subsystem emails I recieved - excluding the email address and message body.

  • Not enough triggers pxi 6561

    Hi,
I wish to do multirecord acquisition with my pxi 6561. I have the following script in mind:
    script
    generate command 1
    generate command 2
    generate command 3 marker0 (0)
    repeat 99
    wait until scripttrigger0
    wait until scripttrigger1
    generate command 2
    generate command 3 marker1 (0)
    end repeat
    end script
Marker event 0 will be exported to pfi 1 and then will be received on pfi 2 to start a dynamic acquisition session.
Marker event 1 will be exported to pfi 3 and then will be received on pfi 3 to advance to another record in the dynamic acquisition session.
No reference triggers are used, and the minimum number of prereference triggers is 0, so the records will just end when the specified number of samples is acquired.
The number of records will be 100, and the size predetermined to be about 10,000 samples. I will fetch continously, by fetching the backlog and then feeding the number of samples from fetch backlog into the number of samples to fetch. When number in fetch backlog goes over say 14 Msamples, I will output a software trigger to stop dynamic generation which is scripttrigger 0.
The problem now is that I have no line to output a ready to advance trigger since all the trigger lines are used up. I wish to send out an ready to advance trigger to and to reeive this to for scripttrigger1.
The basic idea is to do multirecord acquisiton. I will send out a command sequence given by command 2 and command 3. When command 3 is outputted, I then wish to start acquiring data for 10,000 samples. This is caused by marker event 0 or 1. When the acquisiton of 10,000 samples finishes it will send out a ready to advance event when there is more records to acquire.
In parallel, I will be fetching and writing to the harddisk as fast as possible, by reading the fetch backlog and fetching the number of samples specified in fetch backlog. When fetch backlog goes over 14 Msamples, I wish to pause acquiring and generating data. I will pause generating data by sending a software trigger at scripttrigger0. When this trigger is sent, no more data is generated, and no advance trigger will be outputted since the marker event 1 will not be outputted, so there will be no data acquired as well. The dynamic acquisiton session will be stuck in a ready to advance state. The problem is to now find a place to route the ready to advance trigger and read it but there are no more trigger lines left.
One idea I had, but I don't know if it is possible, is to send out the marker event 0 on pfi 1 and send out marker event on pfi 1 as well since they will not occur simultaneously during the same clock cycle. I would then read th start acquisition event and the  advance event on pfi 2 as well, there by leaving pfi 3 and pfi 0 open. I could then send out the ready to advance event on pfi 3 and read it on pfi 1 or maybe do this on pfi 1 and pfi 2 as well.
Please provide any suggestions you may have.
    Thank you,
    -Tim

    Hi Tim,
According to the script you should not need more triggers lines... but I see your point. The only solution I can think on right now is to use pattern match as other sources of triggers. You will use some of those DIO lines as triggers.
You can always use the software program start for the start trigger, then use the two triggers you mention (start acq and advance) using the PFI lines.
    Hope this helps,

  • Intermittent failure to boot, flashing question mark or white screen

So, I've had two MacBooks with similar problems (I am a Mac consultant). The first one would intermittently boot to a white screen, often enough to be annoying. This current one is occasionally booting to a flashing question mark. My first thought is, of course, the hard drive, but in both cases the hard drive tests fine using SMART Utility, which is usually great at giving advance warning when a drive starts experiencing hardware errors.
On the first MacBook, the one with the white-screen boots, I tried reinstalling the system with no effect; replacing the drive eventually made the problem go away. The current MacBook, with the question-mark boots, has already had its drive replaced once, when the stock drive failed.
I will reseat the drive, which is all Apple could suggest. I just wonder if anybody else had experienced something like this and can offer any information about what might be going on.

Thanks for the reply. Aside from finding that holding the mouse button down at boot might cause a flashing question mark, I already knew all that. I will ask the owner if she is leaning on the trackpad button when she starts up her computer in the morning.
I've already reset the power manager and the PRAM; we'll see if that makes any difference. The puzzling thing here is that the problem is intermittent.
I also need to ask her if, when the computer does boot to the question mark, there has been a chime first. Somehow I think there has to be, for the system to have gotten as far as looking for a boot drive. I couldn't find anything useful in the logs; not surprising, since if it can't find a drive to boot to, it won't have anything to write a log to.
Again, the mystery is why the failure to boot is intermittent. If it happened every time, I'd know what to do!
    Thanks

  • Macbook pro 8,2 intermittent failure

I have a macbook pro 8,2 (I think this is a 2011 model). I have a bluetooth mouse and a 30" cinema display. I've had several macbooks and they have all worked very well. This one, suddenly is having problems. It will work fine for a while and then the display will either start blinking (the whole screen) or a set of lines is displayed. I can turn it off and reboot and it runs fine for a while. I ran extended diagnostics with no problems found. Below is the panic report sent to apple. Anyone have any ideas? I've had this computer for 2 years, but it refurbished from apple.

Thanks. I was wondering about the memory and already have 'apple supported' memory on the way from Amazon. Specifically this:

  • Exception not triggered after 4 acknowledgement failures.

    Hi,
I have an FTP Sender, When i am sending the file to FTP site. the send step is defined as throwing send exception and send exception is handled in send exception handler where i cancel the process. The send step is defined with acknowledgement as "Transport".
I have FTP address wrongly spelt.
So the BPM tries 4 times, with 5 min duration between retires. Then after the 4tn try i am expecting the send step to throw send exception. It does not do that.
Could you please let me what changes i have to do to catch this acknowledgement exception.
I also have a deadline exception. but i dont want this to go into the deadline exception. Can i catch this exception in send exception.
    Regards,
    Vinay.

    Hi,
In IMG - Materials Management- Purchasing-Messages - Fields relevant to Print out of changes
Enter Table EKPO , Reference Field LOEKZ, tick on change print relevant for purchase order,in routine enter 03.
Now your Output will be triggered with a change indicator and you can process it using ME9F.

  • SGD 4 6 AD intermittent failures

    Hello all
I have an issue with SGD 4.6....
    The infrastructure:
2 SGD 4.6 in array config
    1 AD for authentication
First time I had authentication to the AD and I saw the tree of the AD on the SGD and every thing worked fine, one day I just couldn´t get the tree.
The next day I found that I could autenticate with the AD in both servers, at the afternoon once again I lost auth in one of the array and a few minutes after on both servers, next day at mid morning I got authentication in one serverver, I restarted the second one and gained authentication again.
When i try to set up the authentication in the global conf during those outages I got this message.
    *errorLDAP Connection Error
Failed to connect, no servers available[ dcexternal-srv.company.com.gt='javax.naming.AuthenticationException: GSSAPI [Root exception is javax.security.sasl.SaslException: GSS initiate failed [Caused by GSSException: No valid credentials provided (Mechanism level: Server not found in Kerberos database (7))]]'; ]*
If I change the user for autentication (I now is not the one to get acces i got this message)
LDAP Connection Error Fail to connect, invalid authentication credentials
I´ll apreciate any help with this issue, is killing me and I have a whole project waiting to solve this.
    Regards,

    Hi there,
    The error:
GSSException: No valid credentials provided (Mechanism level: Server not found in Kerberos database (7))
means that SGD cannot find an authentication realm for the AD server being connected to and therefore cannot connect.
If your AD environment has more than one AD server check you have a domain_realm mapping in your krb5.conf file for the network domain company.com.gt. If the mapping is missing, assign an authentication realm to the company.com.gt domain.
If your AD environment has only a single AD server, were there any DNS outages around the time of the AD failures? DNS outages can mean that SGD cannot resolve the hostname of the server and therefore cannot work out a domain and/or an authentication realm to use when connecting to the server.
For the LDAP issue, you may need to reconfigure the search filter used to find users in LDAP as the default values are sometimes not adequate for AD. The following blog entry should provided more information on reconfiguring this value:
    http://blogs.sun.com/danielc/entry/using_ad_as_an_ldap
    Hope this helps,
