Trouble after switching to cable

Switched to cable from phone modem (different provider). Going to mail - using mac.com account - but won't send (I do receive mail ok thru the account). When I switch back to the phone modem - it goes thru without any problems.
Any suggestions?

Did some more looking around - ended up being a port problem - needed to switch Server port from 25 to 587. Yea!

    It's a bug in PC suite 6.84.
    Hopefully it will be fixed in 6.85 when it is released.
    6.83 works fine and is far more stable and reliable than 6.84.

  • Bios not starting after switching SATA cables?

    Problem description: I'll try to be as specific as possible with this. Yesterday I installed an Intel SSD into my computer to use as a boot disk. I had previously been using a Spinpoint F3, which I retained as a storage/gaming disk. The firmware update software for the SSD was unable to detect the SSD, so I checked intel's website and saw that some MSI boards conflict with the firmware update on certain specific SATA ports. I then did the following, after unplugging the computer and opening the case:
    1. Removed the power cord to the motherboard so I would be able to more easily remove the graphics card.
    2. Removed the graphics card to access the SATA plug-ins
    3. Removed the cables for the F3 and the SSD
    4. Removed the cables in the SATA ports I wanted (these hooked up to my CD/DVD drive and the front panel USB/headphones/ESata drives)
    5. Put the cables for the F3 and SSD in the ports from part 4.
    6. Put the cables for the F3 and SSD in the ports from part 3.
    7. Replaced the graphics card (Making sure that the two connectors at the end were definitely attached to it)
    8. Replaced the power cord to the motherboard
    After all of this I closed the case and powered it on. It starts up, but the only thing that happens is the fan turns on, the various LCD lights on the case come on, and the lights on the motherboard come on. Nothing comes on the screen, although it appears that the monitor can detect that it is at least plugged into the DVI plug on the graphics card. At this point I had not actually updated the firmware for the SSD.
    Attempted fixes: Putting the SATA cables back in the prior positions. Unplugging and resetting every cable I can think of.  Took apart the computer and put it back together more or less.  Switched around the RAM
    Recent changes: Other than moving the SATA connectors around, I added a new keyboard (can't see how this would affect it) and the SSD drive. As mentioned above, I never got around to updating the firmware on the SSD.
    Operating system: Windows 7 64-bit
    System specs:
    Lite-on DVD RW - Sata cable
    Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB G2 SSD
    CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3
    Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor
    SeaSonic SS-500ES Bronze 500W ATX12V v2.31 80 PLUS BRONZE
    MSI P55-CD53 LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard
    Radeon 4890
    CoolerMaster 690 case
    Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

    Try to clear CMOS and boot again to see.

  • Blank Screen after switching HDMI

    I've been using and enjoying ATV2 for at least a month now. My TV has only two HDMI ports so I share one of them for DVD and ATV2. Last night for the first time I switched back to DVD and this morning switched the cable back to ATV2 again and now I get a blank screen. I've read through the manual and tried the suggestions and they didn't help. The situation is this:
    When I force a reset from the remote the ATV2 status light blinks rapidly after 6 seconds and when I release the buttons it blinks slowly for about 15 seconds and then stays on. The screen stays blank (except for Sony telling me which input is enabled, of course).
    The light responds to any remote button with a single blink but the screen stays black.
    I can press the Menu button over and over but the screen stays blank
    I have checked the HDMI cable and removed it and reconnected it and it is definitely connected between the TV and ATV2 properly.
    The TV is definitely turned on and set to the input for DVD/ATV2.
    My iMac has iTunes open and there are no complaint messages on iTunes.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    I'm humiliated to report that I had the cables switched btw TV and DVD/ATV2. How dumb.

  • Nokia CK-7W Car Kit won't switch off after switch...

    Hi,
    I have a CK-7W car kit (connected via bluetooth).
    Recently, the car kit has been reconnecting 2 to 3 seconds after switching the engine of the car off. I cannot seem to stop this from happening, even when clearing memory or even disconnecting the car battery for 20 mins.
    Any advice on how to reset the car kit would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Thanks for the response.
    The car kit was installed by a Car Phone Warehouse Nokia approved fitter about 4 years ago The kit has worked really well until recently!
    The contol button doesn't seem to be stuck in and responds as it should to button presses. In terms of the cable being squashed or damaged. Obviously there is a chance, but in actual fact, only an inch is on show before it is hidden behind the dashboard. In this instance I'm not sure what damage might occur since I don't know how to remove the dash!
    Apologies, I'm not certain I understand your comment re:
      -  "You can rule out the button by disconnecting it then starting the car and connecting, before switching off the car to see if the kit shuts down."
    How do I disconnect the button? Does it pull away from the lead / cable?
    Many, many thanks for your help,
    Chris

  • Audio grayed, non-adjustable after using HDMI cable

    I have just installed Lion on a 2.66GHz 13in MacBook Pro7,1. After connecting to a TV monitor via the Apple HDMI cable and then disconnecting I am unable to adjust the audio on the internal speaker output. The audio button on the menu bar is grayed out and the physical audio controls show a Ø symbol as unavailable. The device "Internal Speakers" states "The selected device has no output controls". I have rebooted several times to no avail. I have tried various combinations of re-connecting the monitor, rebooting, disconnecting, but there is no way I can get the internal speakers or the volume controls to work.
    When I connect an external speaker via the headphone socket the sound settings are resurrected and the audio control button is reinstated.
    I have used a late 2010 MacBook Air 11, also running Lion,  with the same monitor and same cable but have not experienced the problem.
    Can anyone suggest what I might try to get things back to default?

    Some HTIB systems only switch HDMI and pass its audio, but don't process the audio.  My Yamaha HTIB is an example.
    You need to run a separate optical or coaxial audio cable from your sources to the HTIB receiver.  I do not reccommend downgrading to component - continue with HDMI, just use it only for video.
    In my case:
    PS2 to Yamaha optical - since the PS2 doesn't do HDMI and is my only component device, video goes directly to the TV
    Cable box to Yamaha is HDMI + coaxial (Yamaha only has two optical inputs)
    PC to Yamaha is DVI-to-HDMI + optical (Even if the Yamaha did process HDMI audio, this connection would need the optical cable anyway)
    There is an HDMI cable from the Yamaha to the TV.  The Yamaha can switch between cable and PC inputs for me.  I need to switch inputs on both the TV and the Yamaha for the PS2.

  • Switching from cable modem to DSL

    I have a WRT54G that is connected to a desktop computer.  I also have a laptop.  I am currently trying to switch from cable modem to At&T DSL service.  AT&T uses a Motorola 2210 modem.  I am having trouble setting up the router under the new DSL system.  I have an intenet connection when I connect straight from the modem to the desktop.  When I connect the computer to the modem through the router I do not have internet connection, even though the appropriate lights are lit (according to the instructions found on the Linksys site).
    I have tried to connect to the router website, but obviously connot when I do not get an internet signal with the modem connected to the router.  How do I correct this problem?

    As you have changed your Internet Service Providor from Cable to DSL you should reset your router first...
    Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router using the link here

  • Basic home network setup troubles: Airport, ethernet, and cable modem

    Hi,
    Having only just subscribed to a cable broadband service we're experiencing some troubles setting up a mixed-mode home network and I'm wondering whether we've got some of the very basics messed-up.
    What we have is:
    1. Recent version (white) ibook, with airport, running 10.4.7;
    2. Old G4 PowerPC (450MHz I think) running 10.4.7 ... airport card available;
    3. Old powerbook (?Lombard) running 10.2.8 ... no airport;
    4. A PC running Windows XP (not that important to have this in the network though) with no wireless;
    5. A 3com SuperStack 1100 switch;
    6. A cable modem;
    7. A Linksys BEFSX41 Etherfast Cable/DSL Router ... 4 ethernet switch ports;
    8. An airport express base station;
    9. An HP laser printer connected into the ethernet LAN.
    We'd like to keep both our wireless and ethernet networks running with all computers able to access one another, print to the laser printer, and access the broadband (fixed IP address) account. We're not (yet) conderned with hosting websites from our home computers.
    I'm unsure of how we should configure this system. Do I connect the airport base station to the switch (which is what we presently have) or into the router? Do I connect each of the hardwired PCs (and the printer) into the switch
    and then the switch to the router via single conenction?
    If we use DHCP to access the router have I got the potential for the router and the airport base station to interfere with one another?
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've pulled a few TCP/IP setup-for-idiots books from our local library but this specific situation doesn't seem to be well covered.
    Cheers
    Dougal

    You probably have a few options here that will work. Considering the number of wired devices, I would suggest the following:
    Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Internet port] BEFSX41 [LAN_1] > (Ethernet cable) > SuperStack switch > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] AirPort Express Base Station (AX) > (wireless) > wireless clients, AND
    SuperStack switch > (Ethernet cable) > wired clients
    Then setup the AX as a bridge, as follows:
    To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, make these settings:
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    - Apply the new setting.
    - Wait at least 5 minutes.

  • Z77A-G45 : My pc doesn't post after switch on

    Hello,
    A few days ago, I connected on my PC a friend's hard disk in order to check it (I used the SATA port of the DVD Reader). When I have disconnected it and I have tried to boot, I didn't see the post after switch on. Now, I can't manage to boot or to go on the boot menu by typing F11 or DEL. I can hear the hard drive but I don't see anything on my screen.
    Thanks in advance.

    Maybe by a mistake you have connected your computer to the monitor through the motherboard's video port, not through graphics card? That might be a problem you don't see anything. Also try alternate way of video cable, like VGA or DVI.
    If you have graphics card then try with removing it and connect motherboard's port to the monitor.
    And possibly, if that's not mistake (see above), then yes, try clearing CMOS.

  • HT1386 My iOS device (Ipad mini) only appears in iTunes while cable-connected, but does not appear after diconnect the cable. How can I Wifi sync ?

    Hi, My iOS device (Ipad mini) only appears in iTunes while cable-connected, but does not appear after diconnect the cable. How can I Wifi sync ?
    Documents say
    Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it....
    But I can't see my iPad Mini in iTunes.
    And my  Ipad  (Settings, General, iTunes Wifi Sinc)  shows  a message :" Sync will resume when xxx(my PC with iTunes) is available "...
    Both are in the same network,
      Ipad mini is is plugged in to power
    . iTunes is open on the computer
    what can i Do ???

    Hi Skydiver119,  and tks for four interest.
    I have done exactly as you say, but it does not work for me.
    You indicated  " Navigate to the info tab and scroll down. There'll be a check box for 'sync over wifi' or something to that effect. Check that box and sync to affirm your choice."
    I navigated to Summary tab (not Info Tab) and checked "Sync with this ipad over Wi-Fi"
    I disconnect the wire,
    and my iPad disappears from my iTunes screen.
    in my iPad ->Settings -> General -> iTunes Wi-Fi Sync -> says " Sync will resume when (my PC) is available.
    So, I can not sync via wi-fi
    I appreciate if you can help me.

  • Can't find my main iPhoto library after switching to another library. Where is it - its not in list of libraries

    I can see the library of photos in Aperture so I know the photos are still there and still organized, but I'm unable to see them in iPhoto after switching to a different library, then trying to go back - where is that library? Its not listed. The desired iPhoto library was iPhoto 11, this one is only 9.6.

    First: Locate it.
    Right click on the word iPhoto in the Menu bar. This will show you the location of the Library:
    Most Simple Back Up:
    Drag the iPhoto Library from wherever it is to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
    Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
