Trouble Creating Share Point via 'sharing' Command

I'm having trouble creating a share point via the command line using the 'sharing' utility. Basically just trying to script the creation of a /WindowsShares/ share via SMB.
Here is the command:
<pre class=command>sharing -a /WindowsShares/ -n WindowsShares -s 001 -g 000 -i 00 -o 0 -t 1'</pre>
It seems like everything works. <pre class=command>sharing -l</pre> shows this:
<pre class=command>name: WindowsShares
path: /WindowsShares/
afp: {
name: WindowsShares
shared: 0
guest access: 0
inherit perms: 0
ftp: {
name: WindowsShares
shared: 0
guest access: 0
smb: {
name: WindowsShares
shared: 1
guest access: 0
inherit perms: 0
oplocks: 0
strict locking: 1
directory mask: 493
create mask: 420
}</pre>
However, it doesn't seem to write anything to the /etc/smb.conf file... So nothing works.
If I enter the following in smb.conf the share does work:
<pre class=command>[WindowsShares]
oplocks = 0
map archive = no
vfs objects = darwin_acls
path = /WindowsShares
read only = no
strict locking = 1
inherit permissions = 0
comment = macosx
create mask = 0644
guest ok = 0
directory mask = 0755</pre>
However, even after entering this information - when I check 'Share Points' within WGM the share IS listed - but the 'Share this item and its contents' is NOT checked and thus, is confusing and can't be modified from WGM.
Am I missing something when I am creating this share via the CLI?
I assumed using 'sharing' worked the same way as using WGM and checking 'Share this item and its contents' - that works perfectly.
I tried this with 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 Server (Universal).
Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the reply...
I ran the 'serveradmin' command to discover the SMB settings before and after the change via WGM. I restarted the SMB service as well...
<pre class=command>S999EDC1:~ root# serveradmin settings smb:\*
smb:encrypt passwords = yes
smb:log level = 2
smb:display charset = "UTF-8-MAC"
smb:security = "ads"
smb:deadtime = 5
smb:hide dot files = "yes"
smb:guest account = "unknown"
smb:client ntlmv2 auth = "yes"
smb:preferred master = no
smb:defer sharing violations = "no"
smb:adminCommands:homes = yes
smb:adminCommands:serverRole = "domainmember"
smb:adminCommands:ldapRole = "1.1 - hosting a master LDAP directory server\n"
smb:allow trusted domains = yes
smb:netbios name = "S999EDC1"
smb:lanman auth = "YES"
smb:vfs objects = "darwin_acls"
smb:wins support = no
smb:brlm = "yes"
smb:max smbd processes = 0
smb:server string = "S999EDC1 OS X Server"
smb:os level = 8
smb:domain logons = no
smb:passdb backend = "opendirectorysam guest"
smb:dos charset = "CP437"
smb:realm = "EDU.CBE.AB.CA"
smb:unix charset = "UTF-8-MAC"
smb:auth methods = "guest opendirectory"
smb:local master = no
smb:domain master = no
smb:map to guest = "Never"
smb:use spnego = yes
smb:printer admin = "@admin, @staff"
smb:ntlm auth = "YES"
smb:workgroup = "CBEEDU"</pre>
The only difference was that smb:workgroup = "CBEEDU" and smb:log level = 2 were reversed. The settings were the same though. Thought that was odd.
When making the change via 'sharing', there is no change.
Is there any other documentation on 'sharing' other than the man page and CLI Guide from Apple? I haven't been able to find anything concrete.

  • Create share point in dock as an alias

Currently, when I try to add an alias of a share point to the dock in Workgroup Manager it behaves like a folder in the user's dock. Specifically it behaves as a stack. I want it to behave like an alias does when it is added locally to a user's dock which is to open the share point as a window in the finder. How do I do this?
    - Snow Leopard Server 10.6 on a core 2 duo mac mini

See table 256 in the Database Administrator's Guide: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_dbag/esb_restricted_names.html#esb_restricted_names1063037
There is a list of characters that can not be the first character in a member alias, and "-" is one of them. So you can't set an alias to "-70.20, -80.4". A possible workaround is to add some constant prefix - for example "Map -70.20, -80.4" would be an acceptable alias - then trim it off for use in your Widget.

  • OS X Server Calendar Won't Share Calendar via Sharing Settings

I have OS X Server 10.9.1 with Server 3.0.2.  The CalDAV server is enabled, and I have a few users who are using calendars from their devices (e.g. Calendar.app on 10.8.5 and iOS 7).    Everythign is working great (events are syncing between devices properly).
If you right click a CalDAV Calendar on 10.8.5 you get a popup saying "Sharing Settings..."   Choosing this gives you an option "Share CalendarName with..." and a dialog box, into which you can type a persons name.   The field autocompletes initially with names (which appear to be from one's local Contacts list) but in a second later some names show up (which appear to be from the Server's list of Accounts).
If I choose one of the people who is in my address book but not a user on OSX Server, then I get an error message "At least one sharee was not recognized by the server.  New invitations have not been sent.".    Fair enough: this is how it should work.
However, if I choose a name which only exists on OS X server, I get a beep, and nothing happens.
Possibly related: the usernames on OS X server do not show up with any email address attached (probably because I never set an email address there, as we are not using email there).
Any ideas how or why this is functioning like this?

  • Can't remove share points once created in admin tool

I created share points using the Workgroup Manager according to the instructions found in the documentation. I am unable to remove them from the "Sharing/All list in the manager even after I uncheck the "Share this item and its contents" option as found in the documentation. I have checked for the "no change" toggle on the directories but that isn't the issue.
    Any help would be appreciated!
Xserve Intel   Mac OS X Server (10.4.8)

Unchecking "Share this item and its contents" and saving changes should remove the SharePoints from the list.
You can double-check this by opening NetInfo Manager and looking into the directory config/SharePoints of your local NetInfo Domain. That's where sharepoints are stored (at least until 10.5).

  • Create BO Event via Change Document

    Hello gurus
I'm having some trouble creating an event via a change document for a custom Z table.  I've already followed the steps outlined in help.sap.com:
    1. Created the change document for the z table and generated the program.
    2. Made the Z table and its data elements relevant for change documents.  Did this through the Technical Settings for table (Log changes checkbox) and data element characteristics.
    3. Made an entry under "CREATE" in SWED for my new change document object, with the z table as the leading table and change document key with structure.
    4. Made an entry for my event in SWEC and linked it for a create of the change document.
However, the event is not being fired when a new entry is made in the z table.  I set a breakpoint in the funcion module generated for the change document but it's not being detected apparently.
Are there any further settings I need to look at/change for the change document to activate the event?  Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Juan Ramos

    Hi Ramki
Indeed, I consider using SAP_WAPI_CREATE_EVENT much, much simpler, but unfortunately it was another consultant, not me, who built the table, its code, and the code behind the z transaction where the table is used (and he's based offshore).  It was only just now that I also found the code he wrote for the txn.
If I would have to add code anyway to make the change document work, I'll just talk to the consultant to have him add the SAP_WAPI_CREATE_EVENT, or I'll just add it myself if I get permission from our development manager.
Thanks for your help as always!

    Juan Ramos

  • System creates group for every share point

Every time I create a new share point on my OS X Server 10.5, a group is created by the system on the fly along with it.
For example, I created a folder nameded Research Office and shared in Server Admin. Then when I assign the permission for the share point in Server Admin, I see a group called Research Office group with a GID of 124. However, this group does not appear in Workgroup Manager so I can not assign members to it.
    Anyone see this before?

These groups are 'local' (Not LDAP) I still have difficulty wrapping my head around some of the rules about the 'how' this works but assigning LDAP users to this group does work!
    OK _To see this group(s)_.
    1: Open Workgroup Manager.app.
2: Select /Local/Default in your Authentication list (this spot is between the Toolbar and the 4 (or 5) icons for User, Groups, Computer Groups etc.) We are looking for the place that should say something like 'Authenticated as XXXXX to local directory /Local/Default')
3: Select the Groups icon (3 Shadows standing together)
4: Select Menu View, Show System Users and Groups
5: Now you will be able to select these groups.
_To add LDAP users and groups to this 'local' group._
1: Highlight the group in question
2: Select the Members tab in the right pane
    3:Click the plus
4: After the tray slides out, at the top of the tray, you will see a disclosure arrow and Local Directory /Local/Default. Click on it and select /LDAP/127.0.0.1
Now you can select your LDAP users to assign rights.

  • Trouble creating shared photo streams

A few days ago I created four separate shared photo streams using various events in iphoto. I shared all four with my husband and everything worked great.
Since then I have tried multiple times to create additional shared photo streams to share with him and none of them work. I hilite all the photos and select Share and it creates the shared photo stream but no photos are ever inside.
Why can't I get this feature to work anymore?
The existing four photo streams still work perfectly and all the photos are intact.
Any help you could offer would be appreciated.
    Thank you!!

I am using the most recent version of iphoto 9.5.1.
The problem with getting shared photo streams to populate seems to be a bit random. I was able to create a couple more shared photo streams today, but it doesn't work everytime.
Nothing seems to be wrong with any of the photos I am using. They are viewable in full size and don't seem to be any different than any other photos.
There are certain events I am having trouble with. Each time I try to create a shared photo stream with them, either they don't populate at all, or they only load a portion of the photos and videos before stopping.
In the last case, it stopped after 390 photos out of approx. 600 photos, according to the icloud shared photo stream on the Mac, although my iphone has maybe 20 more in the shared photo stream than the Mac says there are.
None of this seems to make any sense.
    Thanks,
    Lorraine

  • Trouble Creating Users Via Web Form

I'm having trouble creating user in a 9i database via web front end.
I use the following sql to create the user
strSQL="CREATE USER"""+strUser+"""PROFILE ""DEFAULT"" IDENTIFIED BY ""HELLO"" DEFAULT TABLESPACE ""DATA"" TEMPORARY TABLESPACE ""TEMP"" ACCOUNT UNLOCK"
I then execute another two sql statments to grant "connect" thus
    strSQL="GRANT ""CONNECT"" TO "+strUser+""""
    strSQL="ALTER USER """ strUser"""DEFAULT ROLE ALL"
Whenever I try connecting using the new users details, but get an error message that the server had problems accessing the LDAP directory service(ORA-28030).
I'm happy that the SQL is correect as I created the account that I wanted using Enterprise Console and coppied the SQL it produced. I'm assuming that there's something in the background that is not being triggered when creating the user via the web front end.
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?
    Thanks

  • User can't create folders on Share point

The users is on 10.4.3 trying to create a new folder on a share point on a 10.3.8 server. All permissions in workgroup manager are correct with regards to the particualr share point. The user was able to create the folders about 3 weeks ago and then when she tried to create a folder, it came up with the error 'You do not have the permissions'
I have re-copied all permsions to the share point, run repair permissions on the server and the user's machine.
The user is logging in to a roaming account on the server.
Although they do not have permissions to create a new folder they can save any document into any folder that is already created on the share point.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for all the help on this one. If anyone else has this problem, a full re-install of the local machine seemed to work.

  • How to create work space in the share point work space ?

    Hi,
I have office 2010 with Share point work space.
I have lot of files in the remote drives ( //sever1 ..etc ) and it is hard to find the files and modify them every time.
So I have created groove work space and added one of the file from remote driver
and then I have modified the file in the groove and it should be modified in the remote driver also, But it is not modifying.
Please let me know any other ways to do this.
I would like to reference the file in the share point work space tool. It should be modify in the remove driver once it is saved from space and vice versa.
    Thank you.

Didn't know Workspace can sync folders, I only use it to sync offline folders and SharePoint. As an alternative, you can use SyncToy (
http://sharepointdragons.com/2012/04/10/synctoy/ ) which for sure is able to sync multiple file locations (btw, it uses the Sync framework, the same that's being used by Workspace)

  • How to create script that run sudo-command, via automator?

    Hi
I'd want to create script to automate one command I need quite often. I just can't get this to work.
I'm not using english OS, but I think this is what I do. In automator I choose Utilities -> Run script
Here's the script I try to run:
    sudo "/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/boot.sh --restart"
I found some tip to do it like this:
do shell script "sudo /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/boot.sh --restart password "pass" with administrator privileges
Where pass is my admin password.
    This does not work, either.
Could anybody help me on this?
    Thanks...

This is not working. What's wrong?
What's wrong is that the '--restart' is a parameter for boot.sh, and therefore needs to be included within the quotes.
Additionally, the shell uses spaces to divide parameters, so the spaces in the command will make it appear as multiple commands - '/Library/Application', 'Support/VMware' and 'Fusion/boot.sh'. You need to escape them using a backslash:
    <pre class=command>do shell script "/Library/Application\ Support/VMware\ Fusion/boot.sh --restart" password "pass" with administrator privileges</pre>
If it's outside of the quotes it would be interpreted as a parameter to 'do shell script' and it won't know what to do with that.

  • Custom NFS share point directory showing up on all network machines

    Hi,
I'm in the process of migrating our 10.4 PowerMac server to a Mac Pro (running 10.5). I've been trying to recreate our 10.4 server setup as much as possible and so far I've only come across one annoying issue.
We have fink installed on the server and under our 10.4 setup the /sw directory was set up as an NFS automounted share point with a custom mount point of '/sw'. I.e. users logging into client machines saw a /sw directory and could work with that. This made it easier to add fink packages as I only needed to do this on one machine (the server). This setup worked very well under 10.4 and had been working stably for the last couple of years.
As we now have (for another month or two at least) a mix of intel and Power PC machines, I don't want to share out the (intel) server version of fink to all clients. In Server Admin, I have chosen to set the NFS protocol options to specify the IP address of just one client (an intel machine). I am only using NFS to share this directory. The plan is to add more client IP addresses as we get more intel machines.
This works for the one intel client machine. Logging in via the GUI or via ssh allows you to run programs located under the /sw directory. The problem is that a phantom /sw directory appears on all client machines, even though their IP addresses are not specified in Server Admin. The /sw directory has root/wheel permissions (for user/group) and attempting to list its contents returns 'Operation not permitted' (even with 'sudo ls /sw').
If I use Directory Utility to remove the connection to the Directory server on our main server, then the /sw directory becomes owned by root/admin and I can remove it (it appears empty). Reconnecting to the Directory Server changes the permissions back to root/wheel. It is also worth noting that when I first installed fink on the server (in /sw) the act of making this a share point also changed the permissions on /sw to root/wheel meaning that I couldn't access the fink programs that I had only just installed (this forced me to reinstall fink in /Volumes/Data/fink).
Has anyone else noticed this behavior? It almost seems like Server Admin is not honoring the list of IP addresses that are being listed as targets for client machines. I had planned to install fink locally on the PowerPC clients until we upgrade them to intel machines. However, I would then also have to install fink somewhere other than /sw as I can't write to that directory. I would presume that this behavior should happen on any NFS share point that is trying to automount to a custom mount point on a client. Can anyone else verify this?
    Regards,
    Keith

As a footnote. I have now removed my shared fink installation. It is no longer listed as an NFS sharepoint in Server Admin and running the 'showmount -e' command does not list it. However, a /sw directory is still being created on the server and on the client machines on our network.
This is perplexing and frustrating. There is no sharepoint any more. I rebooted the server but it makes no difference. I removed the /sw directory (on the server) by booting the machine in target firewire mode and removing it by using a 2nd machine. But following the restart, it appeared again.
This suggests that once you make any custom mountpoint (using NFS sharing) then you will forever be stuck with a directory at the root level of all your clients which you can not remove.
    Keith
