Trouble reading/accessing a shared mailbox (via imap)

I am having troubles accessing/reading a shared mailbox using IMAP.
I have no problems accessing my own mailbox, but my account has a shared mailbox that I want to parse through, using javamail, in order to perform activities based on what emails arrive.
Am I attempting the impossible?

Yes, I think you are. You're attempting to get help without providing any of the information that would be necessary for someone to help you.Understood. (and agreed)
What server are you using?MS Exchange 2007
How are you accessing the shared mailbox?I don't know how to access it, that's kinda the question. When I open ms outlook I see my own private mailbox with folders (that I can access via javamail no problems) and I also see a shared mailbox at the bottom of the list, lets call it Mailbox Otherstuff. This is the mailbox that I want my app to access and read.
Here's a sample of some code that I've used to successfully access my own private mailbox...
session = Session.getDefaultInstance(System.getProperties(), null);
session.setDebug(true);
store = (IMAPStore) session.getStore("imap");
store.connect(mailserver, username, password);
Folder publicFolder = store.getFolder("/");
Folder[] folders = publicFolder.list("*");
How does it fail? What does the protocol trace show? There is no failure per-se, I just don't know what code I need to add/change/modify so that my app can access a shared mailbox instead of my own private mailbox (which is the default?)

  • Mail app and GroupWise mailbox via IMAP

I am using the Mail app to access my GroupWise mailbox via IMAP. I am experiencing the "neverending cache update" problems that others have reported in this forum, without any relief (shy of killing activities that appear to have stalled).
That aside, I have a question. The folder that stores mail message that I have sent in GroupWise is "Sent Items". The Mail app has gone ahead and created a "Sent Messages" folder in my mailbox for the same purpose. While this is somewhat of an inconvenience, the greater problem is that messages that I send via the Mail app are not recognized by GroupWise as "sent messages" by nature of not appearing in the "Sent Items" folder, which causes, among other things, filters to return incorrect results.
So... is there a way to control what folder the Mail app uses for sent messages on an IMAP mailbox, such as my GroupWise mailbox? (Other mail clients, such as Thunderbird, handle this situation well.)
    Thanks.
    - GC

Thank you... I suppose I should have said it didn't "seem" as flexible.
So, that is an improvement... now sent messages appear in the "Sent Items" folder as desired, rather than the "Sent Messages" that the Mail app created. One thing that I noticed now is that the message in "Sent Items" appears like it were a message stored in that folder, rather than one originating for the mailbox. Let me explain... messages sent from a native GroupWise client have attributes such as # recipients, # opened, # deleted, # accepted, #accepted, replied#, etc. None of these attributes appear for Mail app-originating messages. Is this a limitation or is there more magic to be aware of?
    Thanks,

  • Accessing a shared mailbox for users that do not have a mailbox associated with their AD account.

is it possible to give just AD users access to a shared mailbox via webmail in an exchange 2010 environment when those users do not have mailboxes associated with their AD account? They do have full access rights to the shared mailbox.

    Hi Shmaxolin,
According to my experience and research, we can use AD account access to shared mailbox, as long as set properly permission.
We can use IMAP application to access it, please try following steps:
    1. Make sure you have enabled IMAP and POP3 protocol.
    2. Change IMAP4’s authentication to “Plain test logon (Basic authentication). No…..”(open EMC--->Server Configuration--->Client Access, switch to POP3 and IMAP4, right-click IMAP4 and select Properties, then switch to Authentication)
    3. Use the following user format DomainName\Username\MailboxAlias (e.g. DOMAIN\John.Doe\Shared.Mailbox1) to log into the shared mailbox.

  • Unable to change members of AD security groups who have access to shared mailboxes

I have an exchange 2013 running for over a year now and never had any problems with it. Until recently.
A request came in to make a new shared mailbox. So I did just that and gave rights to a security (not mail enabled) AD group. Just like I Always do. Everything worked fine. A few hours later I did exactly the same for another request and then the people
could not access the shared mailbox. So I added my regular user to the AD group and I also couldn't (I tested it with OWA and Outlook). I tried to remove myself of one of my own shared mailboxes and the permissions wouldn't stick. When I removed the entire
group then the permissions were gone(and I could not access the shared mailbox). When I added it back I had my permissions back but still wasn't in the group. Then I tried adding a distribution group with the same result.
It seems when I add normal users directly to the permissions everything works.
When I had to restart the server a few days later. All changes were applied but I could not change it again.
i'm a bit stumped on this one. i'm out of options.

    Hi Jelle,
"I did exactly the same for another request and then the people could not access the shared mailbox.", I would like to verify if you give the same Security Group rights to multiple shared mailboxes.
If the security group members can't have access to all the shared mailboxes they have rights, you can recreate a security group and grant permissions to shared mailboxes one by one to check the result.
Hope this can be helpful to you.

  • How can we set Admin rights to access all user mailboxes in IMAP server exchange 2010?

    Hi,
    IMAP is in exchange 2010..
    as per guide:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200730%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx
CSV Files for IMAP Migration Batches`
Use super-user or administrator credentials.   This requires that you use an account in your IMAP messaging system that has the necessary rights to access all user mailboxes.
In the CSV file, you use the credentials for this account for each row. To learn whether your IMAP server supports this approach and how to enable it, see the documentation for your IMAP server.
How can we set Admin rights to access all user mailboxes in IMAP server exchange 2010?
    thanks?

    Hi,
Do you mean assigning a user full access permission to all other mailboxes? If so, we can try the following command:
Get-Mailbox -Server “Exchange 2010” | Add-MailboxPermission -User AdminUserName -AccessRights FullAccess

If anyone could offer any help it'd be much appreciated, it's going to take several days to migrate my remaining 2010 users to 2013 which is causing a lot of use complaints.

    Hi Seb,
    Try the following please.
1- Remove the existing assigned mailbox permission from the mailbox.
2- Assign the permission (Add-MailboxPermission) with -AutoMapping value set to $false.
3- Launch Outlook. Then add the mailbox manually as an additional mailbox from the Account Settings. (Access to the mailbox by only following this step would also work but your user's then will have the same mailbox displayed twice hence
    step 1 & 2)

    Hi Amy,
    Yes Inheritance is enabled.
Just to clarify this is affecting ALL mailboxes once moved to Exchange 2013, not specific users.
There are multiple 2013 databases all with mailboxes on. Each databases is displaying the same behaviour.
Here are the permissions I have checked so far:
    ADSI Edit: CN=Databases,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (<>),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Company
    ,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=localnet
The AD group has inherited Full Control on all of the database objects.
EAC: The AD group has full control on every migrated mailbox
EMS: The AD group has the following permissions on all mailbox databases:
    Identity User                                           IsInherited   Deny  AccessRights
    MDB01  Company\AD Group                         True         False     {GenericAll}
I have removed permissions for the group and re-added them, this has made no difference.
The only way I can access any of the migrated mailboxes is to explicitly grant my account "Full Access" via the Add-MailboxPermission command.

  • I can not access a shared album via my iPhone.

I created  and shared a photo album from my iMac.  I shared the album with myself and several family members.  Some can access the album and for some it says "This album is no longer shared".   I did a test and sent myself the album invitation.  I am able to open the album through the email on my iMac.  However, when I click on subscribe via my iPhone, it says the album is no longer available.  The album is available - so that's not the issue.    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Julie2020,
Thanks for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the invitation link for your shared album sometimes does not let you or others view the album. I am sure your family wants to see your photos, and I can offer some troubleshooting steps.
If you've already accepted the invitation on your Mac, first check the Photos app on your iPhone to see if the album automatically appears in the "Shared" section, as mentioned in the iCloud Photo Sharing overview.
If so, next make sure that the album is shared with your family members' Apple IDs, and try re-sending an invitation to the ones who can't view the album:
In the Photos app, tap Shared at the bottom of the screen, then tap Sharing at the top of the screen.
Tap the shared album that has the people you want to invite again, then tap People.
Tap the person you want to invite again, then tap Resend Invitation.
You can also complete these steps on your iMac by following the steps at this link:

  • Accessing windows shared printer via mac over wireless

So i want to share my deskjet 812c thats attached to my pc and be able to print via my MBP over wireless. I simply shared teh printer in windows, but have yet been able to figure it out, or to get it to work. It seems that the MBP will not see the printer, so any advice or any walk throughs would be appreciated.
    Thanks

To connect to a shared Windows printer, open the Printer Setup Utility and click More Printers. For the new window, click the drop-down and select Windows Printing and then Network Neighborhood. The workgroup name that has been configured in the Windows computer should display. Double-click the workgroup name and then select the computer name from the new list. A new window will appear asking you to enter your Windows account name and password. Enter these details and click OK. Select the printer share name from the list and then for the Printer Model, browse to HP and then to the Deskjet 812C. If this model is not listed, download a copy of Gutenprint 5.0.0 for Mac OS X (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3). This has the 812C which you can use for network printing. With the 812C selected, click Add.
Note that if you are not prompted to authenticate to the Windows computer, then this can impact your ability to connect to shares, especially on XP SP2. You will need to either enable the Guest account or create an account on the Windows computer for the MacBook.

  • Suddenly not possible to synchronize Exchange mailbox via IMAP

    Hello folks,
I have been using TB as my working email as IMAP client with our corporate MS Exchange server for last several years. All changed this morning where me and my colleagues (running newly updated TB 24.5 or older 24.4) suddenly are not able to sync emails - Server Security Settings was set to SSL/TLS (port 993)
When trying to read new emails I am getting error:
SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.
    (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)
We suspect something has changed on server side (as it stopped to work on older TB releases)
(options https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/976504 does not work for me)
Is there anything we can do to overcome this problem on Thunderbird ?
    Thank you very much
    Regards

At last this was Server certification issue ... Not TB problem
    Thanks anyway

  • Email body automatically changes inside a shared mailbox.

    Hi There,
We have exchange 2010 environment sp3 Ru6. We have some users accessing a Shared mailbox via outlook and sometimes a few of them face the issue of the email body of an email getting replaced with another email in the same mailbox (both emails then have same
images in their body). for example. if there is a mail from one sender with a certain subject and an image pasted in the body then sometimes another email from a different sender with a different subject is also observed to have the same image pasted in its
body (thereby replacing its own). this has happened with a lot of users using the mailbox and with random emails.
Kindly note: users have arranged the emails by their color categories. it happens if email is in any of the folder in shared mailbox and happens only in a few cases.

  • Auto-mapping of shared mailboxes in a resource forest scenario

In a resource forest scenario you assign full access to a shared mailbox using:
Add-MailboxPermission -Identity SharedMailbox -User AccountForestDomain\UserID -AccessRights FullAccess
This provides the user in the account forest full access, but it will NOT auto-map the shared mailbox in Outlook.
    If you use the command:
Add-MailboxPermission -Identity SharedMailbox -User UserID -AccessRights FullAccess
and UserID is the disabled account of the linked mailbox in the resource forest then the user in the account forest does not have the necessary permission to
open the mailbox, but the auto-mapping of the mailbox in Outlook works.
You have to use both commands to have the auto-mapping feature and have access to the shared mailbox.
This looks like another issue of the auto-mapping feature. The intention of the feature is good, but the way it was implemented can be improved.
How do you configure full access to shared mailboxes in a resource forest scenario?

    Hi J-H,
Because i don’t have such a lab environment, so I am unable to do a test.
    Now let’s separate the issue.
    1. The first issue is
    [email protected]
unable to auto configure outlook profile.
    I suggest you
changing the user’s attributes in the account forest, does it work?
     2. The second issue is
[email protected] unable to open a shared mailbox in the resource
    forest.
At first, I suggest you create a shared mailbox in resource forest with this command.
    New-Mailbox -name
    <name> -Database <Database name> -OrganizationalUnit Users –UserPrincipalName
<UPN value, example: [email protected]> -<ResourceType: Room, Equipment or Shared>
    Managing
Resource Mailboxes in Exchange Server 2007 (Part 1)
Then test if you can log on the shared mailbox via outlook.
If yes, then grant full access right for
    [email protected]
    to [email protected]
    Resource:
    Shared mailbox
permission in resource forest with linked users

  • Outlook 2013 (Only) - Shared Mailbox - Not Syncing

    Hi
After searching this forum and many other forums online, I have decided to ask my question here as I cannot find a solution.
We are migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 at the moment. All of a sudden our Outlook 2013 users (All of them) cannot update Shared Mailboxes. When you select that folder it says "Updating this Folder" but nothing is happening. Only happens
with their open Shared Mailbox not with their own Mailbox. I have done the following tests:
Users can open the Shared Mailbox and sync properly using OWA.
Users can open the Shared Mailbox but cannot sync via Outlook 2013.
Users can open and sync the Shared Mailbox via Outlook 2010.
Ran OST repair tool, no luck.
Completely deleted the profile and wiped all the files in the outlook folder and recreated the profile, no luck. (Not syncing straight away.)
Users can sync the Shared Mailbox when they are running outlook in Online mode. (I dont wanna do this coz they want to save their sent emails from a Shared Mailbox into the respective "Sent Item" folder which only works in Cached Mode.
Everything used to work fine and suddenly stopped for everyone. Can you please guide me on how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.
    With regards
    M
    PS
I just realized that my Build Version is "Version 14.1 (Build 218.15)"
I am downloading the Service Pack 3, and it might help?

    Hi,
It seems that the issue only happens in Outlook 2013 Cached mode. If you add secondary mailboxes to your profile through the Advanced
tab in the Microsoft Exchange dialog box, please check whether the “Download Shared Folders” is enabled in the Advanced tab.
If it is, the Sync issue occurs may because Outlook 2013 locally caches (in your Outlook data file [.ost]) all folders to which you have access in the secondary mailbox. To resolve it, we can refer to the detailed solution in the following KB:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2297543/en-us

    Hi,

at server level :) I have marked your post as the answer. Thanks again.
