Trouble with MergeFormat tags appearing in Word doc

Hello! I have been living with this problem for ages, and
just manually deleting them. But, I now have a new coworker who
does not get the same problem when we single-source the same
project to Word.
When I create a single-source Word document, before each
topic heading in the newly generated Word doc, I get a tag like
this: { XE "GPA:setting up" \MERGEFORMAT} I get one for each index
entry for the topic. I do not generate an index when I generate
printed docs. I'm trying to figure out where to get rid of these.
It looks like a Word setting. My coworker and I have looked at all
of our options in both Robo and Word, and can't seem to find which
one made hers go away.
I use RH7 and Word 2003.
Any ideas? Thank you for your help in advance.

Sorry - I think I figured it out. I have to look at
formatting (Show/Hide Formatting) when I use Word, she does not. I
see now that the index entry tags don't print when you print the
Word docs (so I don't need to delete them) - but they are ugly to
look at as you are editing! Not sure if there is any other way to
view all other formatting marks without those. As long as I don't
have to delete them all anymore, and they don't appear in the
printed docs, I'm happy.
Thanks anyway.

  • Problems with saving pdf as a word doc

    hello, i
    recently upgraded to acrobt x pro, and i went to convert a one-page pdf into a word doc.  i went to "file,"
    "save as," "word document, and when i went to view
    the word doc, the format/layout/font, etc. was completely garbled.  what could i be doing wrong?  thanks!

    Your problem is likely with the PDF not having the tags that provide the format information you are expecting. Such information is not needed for the PDF, but is used for the conversion back to WORD. You could try converting a file from DOC to PDF and back to DOC with both a print to the Adobe PDF printer and PDF Maker to get the format info. See how they compare and you should get the idea.

  • Trouble with struts tags

    Hi,
    I am new to struts and am getting confused with the tags.
    I have few doubts.
    My Actionform would be -
    public class AForm extends ActionForm {
        //~ Instance fields ********************************************************
        String deptNo;
        String dName;
        String loc;
        //~ Methods ****************************************************************
         * This function
         * @param deptNo DOCUMENT ME!
        public void setDeptNo(String deptNo) {
            this.deptNo = deptNo;
         * This function
         * @return DOCUMENT ME!
        public String getDeptNo() {
            return deptNo;
        }In my action class I say -
    selectSql = "SELECT DEPTNO FROM DEPT";
                    pStmt = conn.prepareStatement(selectSql);
                    theResultSet = pStmt.executeQuery();
                    ArrayList _arrayList = new ArrayList();
                     while (theResultSet.next()) {
                        AForm theAForm = new AForm();
                        theAForm.setDeptNo(theResultSet.getString("DEPTNO"));
                        _arrayList.add(theAForm);
                    req.setAttribute("arrayListOfDeptnos", _arrayList);My question is -
    How do I get this arraylist in the JSP and iterate through it? Should I code in this way? Is there an more elegant way to do it??
    My JSP page
    <%
              java.util.ArrayList ss = (java.util.ArrayList)request.getAttribute("arrayListOfDeptnos");
              if(ss!=null){
        %>
          <logic:iterate id="booId" scope="request" collection="<%=ss%>" type="mypackage27.AForm">
            <html:link action="/getme" paramId="theNum" paramProperty="deptNo" paramName="booId">
              <bean:write name="booId" property="deptNo"/>
            </html:link>
          </logic:iterate>
          <%
        %>I know this must be very trivial ...

    Rather than using collection attribute (which requires a runtime expression) instead use the name attribute.
    Also, if you aren't going to use the variable "booId" in scriptlet code/expressions, you can leave out the "type" attribute.
    Probably the scope attribute as well.
    That all boils down to:
    <logic:iterate id="booId" name="arrayListOfDeptnos">
      <html:link action="/getme" paramId="theNum" paramProperty="deptNo" paramName="booId">
        <bean:write name="booId" property="deptNo"/>
      </html:link>
    </logic:iterate>And for completeness, the same thing using some JSTL code:
    <c:forEach var="booId" items="${requestScope.namearrayListOfDeptnos}">
      <html:link action="/getme" paramId="theNum" paramProperty="deptNo" paramName="booId">
        <c:out value="${booId.deptNo}"/>
      </html:link>
    </c:forEach>Cheers,

  • Probs with drop-down text in Word doc

    I'd like to include drop-down text in my printed
    documentation, but I'm having problems making it work. I have lots
    of i-frames in my Webhelp project and, for some reason, they all
    seem to have carriage returns in them. When I turn on the "include
    drop-down text" in my printed doc options, these carriage returns
    wreak havoc on my formatting.
    I've tried removing them from the TrueCode, but they just
    re-generate. I've also thought about writing a macro in Word to
    remove them, but I can't think of a way to ensure it is consisent.
    And, I have numerous long documents that will be generated from
    this project, so it is not feasible to remove them manually.
    I'd really like to use the drop-down text functionality for
    my printed docs. Short of turning of the drop-down text, using
    conditional tags, and duplicating text , I don't know how. Any
    ideas?
    BTW, I'm using RoboHelp X5.

    Based on the information I received from Peter Grainge, I completed the following steps.  The Bulleted-List issue was fixed, but not the numbered-lists.
    1.        Make sure your RoboHelp project is not opened.
    2.        Open up the default.css style sheet for your project in Notepad.
    3.        Search for the following text:
    P.Numbered-List {
       list-style: decimal;
       text-indent: -;
       margin-left: 0pt;
    4.        Replace with the following text:
    /*P.Numbered-List {
       list-style: decimal;
       text-indent: -;
       margin-left: 0pt;
    5.        Search for the following text:
    P.Bulleted-List {
       list-style: disc;
       margin-left: -6pt;
    6.        Replace with the following text:
    /*P.Bulleted-List {
       list-style: disc;
       margin-left: -6pt;
    7.        Open up your RoboHelp Project
    8.        Go to Edit : Find and Replace Files
    9.        Search for:  <li><p class="Bulleted-List">
    10.     Replace with: <li class="Bulleted-List"><p>
    11.     Now do another search and replace.
    12.     Search for: <li><p class="Numbered-List">
    13.     Replace with: <li class="Numbered-List"><p>
    14.     Remove any extra lines that appear at the end of the drop-down text.

  • Trouble with Equations When Exporting to Word

    First, I should note, I'm an economist, equations are basically most of my documents.
    I'm having trouble getting equations to export correctly to word (I have CS 6 with A. Pro X), what appears to be happening is that Acrobat tries to make the equation using standard characters, not using Word's equation editor.  This doesn't really work, and you get results like this:
    When this is from the PDF:
    Does anyone know how to impove this behavior?  Also, there seems to be conficting information about the ExportPdf service, some says it works some say stay away -- and there doesn't seem to be a free trial to try it out.

    Well I found that TeX2WORD worked pretty well. It converted the TeX equations into MathType equations. It was not perfect, but the best I have had. I had no luck with the figures, but then I really use TeX as an intermediate step and am not that TeX saavy. It may be that if you use TeX, it will work fine for you. Converting from PDF will simply convert the equations into text in the right spot, but possibly the wrong fonts. I was actually surprised how well it did with AA XI, I was not expecting much at all (really great compared to older products of AA).
    For the figures I simply reinserted them in the WORD file. Keep in mind I did this for OFFICE 2003. I believe TeX2WORD has been updated to work with the newer OFFICE. I had gone this route as the best way to get some of my word processor files into WORD -- I have a LaTeX output option and used that. Hope the suggestion helps. It is a direct route and avoids the added problems of additional conversions. This conversion is one of the only reasons I still keep an old Dell laptop around as it is the one that the software is license for. You can download a trial version to try.

  • Trouble with Meta Tags

    I manually add the tags meta name="description" and meta
    name="keywords" to the html code in RH7. Then when I save the file
    it strips out the quote marks around the words "description" and
    "keywords". Then when I compile as WebHelp the tags are completely
    removed. What is up with this? Surely there must be a way to use
    these common tags in RH.

    Hi Esch
    You might try making the following changes. Note that
    Dreamweaver likely added its own Meta tag to state what the editor
    was. RoboHelp does something similar. So perhaps change the
    RoboHelp meta tag to reflect Dreamweaver. Sort of "fooling"
    RoboHelp into thinking Dreamweaver created the topic. You would
    also probably want to remove any other RoboHelp specific tags just
    in case. (I think there are two or three others. Maybe more.)
    My thought here is that if you could trick RoboHelp into
    believing Dreamweaver created the page it would leave it alone.
    Assuming, of course, that your observation is spot on with RoboHelp
    leaving the tags alone.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Problem with ChemDraw structures when converting word doc to pdf

    I am trying to convert a word document with ChemDraw structures in it to a pdf.  When it converts, I doesn't hold the chemical structures together.  Is there a quick solution?

    I realize that many word processors have an option to turn off the printer metric use. I finally found it in OFFICE 2007 and it is indeed off. It is not off in OFFICE 2003. Though it is available to folks, it is far from an obvious option in WORD. In the word processor I use it is NOT an option and there is actually a warning in the help about the printer metrics. The fact that there may be a switch in a package is not a given and the information I provide is not incorrect, though adding a comment about a switch option is reasonable.
    Yes it's on in prior versions that wasn't ny uncertainity. I wasn't positive it was off in Office 2007. Why do you make a strawman argument over something that isn't the point of contention ? <sigh>
    You were incorrect. Printer Metrics is the only answer because it's a global switch. You're not helping by telling people to use a solution that's not permanent. It's a clumsy hack.

  • Trouble with XML tags

    I have tagged individual elements of text within a text box with tags from an imported xml file. When I import another xml file with the exact same tags but different content two of my tagged elements won't update. I have tried untagging and retagging and I can't get it to update with the new content. Another bit of info is that I have another text box with some of the same tags in it and that one will update just fine. Can anyone tell me what I am missing?
    Thanks.

  • Trouble with colors not appearing correctly.

    This has been an ongoing problem. I have created links within my pages and assigned the links different colors to help the user determine which link it is. On some pages the colors appear correct and the next page the color links appear as black. Sometimes the entire page links are black and sometimes it is just a few. I have deleted all links and colors and started over, but no luck.
    Has anyone had this issue and overcome it? What is the cause of this problem?

    I believe you are referring to visited links , which by default changes on revisiting the page.
    You can try the suggestion mentioned here to change back to default color on visit :
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8188060/how-to-make-link-not-change-color-after-visited
    If this is not you are referring to , then please provide page url and screenshots where you see a change in color.

  • Trouble with pdf document converted to word

    I converted a pdf to a word document but it will  only allow picture tools. It does not let me make changes to the word document.

    Update: I have run additional tests today, seems like it's a font that is creating the problem:
    I use Merriweather, which suddenly convert to shrunken size in PDF, but if I convert the document font to something more generic, e.g. Courier New, the font size remains accurate in the PDF version.

  • Trouble with new episodes appearing

    My XML - http://www.baseballprospectus.com/feeds/fantasypodcastrss.xml
    I see the new content in the feed, and Podtrac has picked up the new episode just fine. 10 hours later, iTunes is still not showing the update. This used to happen rather instantaneously, but in recent episodes it has been 90+ minutes for something to show up. I uploaded the XML & file at midnight last night.
    Thanks for any help.

    I see 55:
    I also downloaded the file and looked at the coding, and episode 55 is the last one.
    EDIT: I posted this when you said you saw 56 episodes, but you've changed the post since. Checked again and there are still 55.

  • Creating a link to a word doc

    I'm having trouble creating a link to a word doc on my computer.
    I select "enable as hyperlink" and then "Link to file".
    I select the the word doc on my computer. It didn't create a link to the file.
    Hmmmm... then I tried it with a pdf. Still no link.
    Do I need to have a pdf ? The document was created with microsoft word.
    However I also tried it with an old Adobe pdf file.. still no go.
    Any thoughts? I'm using an old version of iWeb 1.1.2
    Thanks.

    No.
    arf arf wrote:

    That should work too.
    NOTE: Links to files aren't testable within iWeb — they become active when published and viewed in a browser.
    An alternative approach is to post MS Word docs (or PDFs) to the free Posterous where they'll be automatically presented in a convenient viewer, e.g.
    http://dont-panic.posterous.com/pdf-document-example
    ...Then in iWeb set up a simple text or image hyperlink to that particular Posterous blog entry.

  • Tagged PDF to Word Document

    I'm not sure this is in the right area for discussion.
    I have a tagged PDF, the way it was generated was just compiling a bunch of images on various sheets and add comments with the acrobat tools.
    I want to be able to convert this PDF with all tags to a word document. Is there a way to do this with how the PDF was originally set up?
    Thanks!

    I assume you have Acrobat. If so I recommend the Acrobat forums (there are a whole bunch of them, and one specifically about tagging). This is the forum for the CreatePDF web service (http://createpdf.adobe.com/) and probably doesn't have the experts you need.

  • Importing Word docs from a RH for Word project

    I have a HUGE RH for Word project that I'm trying to convert
    to RHTML (RH Office X5). We generate CHM with this project, and
    we've got map ids for all topics. I've been to Peter Grainge's site
    to get some ideas, but I don't think they're going to work. There
    are so many Word files and topics (537 and 2,974, respectively)
    that the more I think about it, the more I think that a conversion
    to RH HTML might not be worth it.
    When I tried to import all of the Word documents and also
    convert the TOC (converting the Index isn't an option since it
    never worked with our large number of Word docs) and use the
    HTMLHelp.css (using the Import wizard), RH HTML crashed twice after
    40 minutes.
    So, I created a new RH HTML project and tried to import just
    one Word doc from the RH for Word project, and selected the same
    wizard options. As I expected, the Word doc imported, but even
    though I told RH to split the topics on Heading 2, it also copied
    in the characters (#S+@) that preceded every topic heading and
    incorporated them into the Topic Title. AND, RH HTML did not
    "convert" the TOC - it was blank.
    In another post I saw a reference to this patch -
    http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb07-10.html.
    I'm not sure it's related, although when I examined my second
    failed import attempt, the imported topics were visible in the
    project folder only by using Windows Explorer - RoboHelp HTML did
    not display them from within RoboHelp.
    Does anyone know if this is the patch that will fix this
    issue as well?
    By the way, based on the number of questions I've seen posted
    about RH for Word 7 with zero replies, I'm thinking I'm going to
    run into issues as well, even if we leave it in RH for Word when we
    upgrade to version 7. It seems that its size is an issue for RH
    HTML.
    Thanks,
    Jim
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,
    just as an encouragement: we sucessfully converted a HUGE RH
    for Word project (4,300 topics) to RH HTML a while ago, including
    TOC, index and everything. I must admit though that we had all
    those topics in only 25 word documents. Maybe you can reduce the
    number of documents by moving the topics? There will always be
    problems you run into and afterward, we had to go through every
    single topic and check the formatting, but I guess you'd always
    have to do this. But I think it's worth it, working in HTML is so
    much more convenient.
    Good luck!

  • Converting segments of MS Word doc to lists.

    I am pasting MS Word docs into my web page. There are segments of the doc that have names, placed initially by setting and using the tab key. there may be 3 columns of first and last names. HOW... can I align these when I copy them.  This must be a common problem.. can someone point to a decent complete tutorial? or... for example.. the steps to turn the following into aligned text on my web page
    Shareholders:     Tom Jones                    Bill Strong          Ralph Smith
                             Susan Bright                 Mary Shoe         Paul Windy
                              Joe Blow
    Here then would be another paragraph to be included but is not part of the list.
    Any help most appreciated.... getting very frustrated trying to find the trick on my own. From what I have read... it seems I "should" be able to select a number of words.. apply a class and have the padding move it  the required number of pixels... I would need 3 different classes to pad to 3 different locations... That does not work consistently... sometimes it does.. sometimes it does not. From what I have read I "should" also be able to use the make list feature... tried that in HTML then use CSS to remove the bullet.. well that sort of works but I can not capture the second and third rows of names. I can see using an AP div... but that seems really complicated... there must be an easy way

    Hi Ralph,
    Please use the Copy/Paste settings in DW Prefereces to set this up. If you need just the structure with basic formatting from your word doc then choose option 3rd and if you want exactly as that in word then use option 4th.
    Just try these options and see what suits you best.

    Vinay
