Trying to access Lion server remote using multi-user access, but from a legacy Leopard system

Just purchased a mini server running Lion, and got screen sharing working fine from my legacy system (32-bit so Leopard only). However, I would like to run in multi-user mode, so someone can use the Lion system and another person can access their own account, from the older Leopard system, at the same time. Using multi-user rather than screen sharing. But Leopard does not have the option on the Finder/Share Screen command, the pop-up window to select screen sharing or new virtual session. So, is there a way still to run a new virtual session from a remote client running Leopard?  Since the multi-user capability resides on the Lion server, it should be possible, but how, without the pop-up menu?

  • Problem accessing company resources remotely using Cisco VPN Client

    I connect to my company's network remotely using Cisco VPN client both from a PC (v 4.0.1) and from a MacBook Pro (v 4.9.00)(same configs), and use Remote Desktop to connect to my work computer, and now i'm able to use Citrix to run applications on the company server.
    The problem occurs on the Mac when I'm connecting from a location that uses the same private domain IP as our company's private domain. Our company's private domain is 192.168.1.x, so when I'm using the Mac on a WiFi router that happens to be set to 192.168.1.1, the Mac can connect using VPN but the remote desktop cannot connect to my work computer. Presumably, the Mac doesn't "know" that I'm trying to go through the VPN for the connection and not connect to something locally.
    This problem seems to be unique to the Mac. Every Windows machine with the same client installed has no problems no matter what WiFi I've tried. The Mac works fine on any WiFi that is not 192.168.1.x.
    However, since 192.168.1.x is very common (hotels, airports, etc., its a major problem with the Mac.
    Suggestions are greatly appreciated!
    Also, now that we're moving to Citrix, our administrator has created a webpage on the intranet that we launch applications from, but the Mac cannot find that page when connected to VPN from 192.168.1.x. Same problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I presume you have split-tunneling activated.
    1. Make sure the 192.168.1.x is on the protected networks and on the MacBook client, disable "Allow local LAN access"
    2. Create a separate group for the Mac users and assgn them a different pool (192.168.100.x )and advertise it in your company to point to the VPN Concentrator.
    3. Use the NAT feature on your VPN concentrator.
    If this helped, please rate.

    Daniel

  • Problem in accessing application server file using open dataset

    Hi All,
    I am trying to access application server file using open dataset command, its working fine for normal path which imention. But when i am giving path of XI server file, its not working. How to access XI server file using open dataset. Please let me know.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Vishal

    Hi Vishal,
    You need to verify if the location where you are trying to save the file is in the same server of SAP. In case that the location is in other server you need to map that directy into the same server of SAP.
    You need to point always to a location in the same server of SAP, in order that the open dataset could work.

  • File structure and Multi-user access/control

    Hi All
    Currently evaluating RH. Our plan is to use RH HTML with RoboServer and either SourceSafe or Team Foundation for source control. We will be producing the "printed" manual (PDF) and publishing online help (hopefully html via RH server) from the single source layout
    Given that we will edit content in RH's XHTML editor, I'm not clear on when we should create new files or the granularity of multi-user access. We have 17 apps and I plan to use a master project and merging (because we need to link to related topics in other apps).
    I'm really not sure what should constitute a file in RH. First off, is access controlled at the file level?
    I want to have multiple authors editing the same manual at the same time, so do I need to break the manual into multiple small files (currently it's a single word doc)?
    If I do break it into multiple files, what's the best approach: 1 file per topic (or is this a requirement)?
    Finally, when I come to generate the PDF, will the files be combined. (i.e. can I have different page-breaks than I have in the RH project)?
    Any pointers greatly appreciated
    Regards
    Mark

    Hi,
    First off, is access controlled at the file level?
    Not sure what you mean by that. In source control, you can check in/out ever file independent. Sometimes dependent files will be automatically checked out, for instance images used in the css when you check out the style sheet.
    I want to have multiple authors editing the same manual at the same time, so do I need to break the manual into multiple small files (currently it's a single word doc)?
    That be the idea. Anyway, it's not a good idea to have an entire RoboHelp project in a single topic. You probably want to cut up your contents into the small chunck: topics.
    If I do break it into multiple files, what's the best approach: 1 file per topic (or is this a requirement)?
    In RoboHelp a topic is a HTML file. RoboHelp doesn't force you to split up content into one or more topics. If you are creating help for the web, you want the information to be organized in relatively small chunck so users can quickly scan through it.
    Finally, when I come to generate the PDF, will the files be combined. (i.e. can I have different page-breaks than I have in the RH project)?
    Not sure what you mean by page breaks. As RoboHelp creates HTML files, there are no page breaks such as in paper manuals. When you create a PDF, you combine the topics you need into a single document.
    If a PDF is required for you, you may want to consider not using RoboHelp for your sources. A PDF created by RoboHelp is useful for internal use, but it never seems to get good enough to give to customers. Personally, when a PDF version of a manual is required, I create the manual in FrameMaker and link or import the book into RoboHelp. You can also link Word documents, so you may want to play around with that before deciding whether to use Word, RoboHelp or FrameMaker for your source.

  • Multi user access in Single application file

    Hi,
    Is it possible to work Single application but multi-user access in Indesign CS6.
    If yes, Please let me know how to access.
    Thansk,
    Uvaraj S

    I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. InDesign files can be edited by only a single user at one time, but any user can open a file not already in use.

  • Multi-user access?

    I would like to switch over our organization's website from blogspot to iweb. Right now, several of us have access to the blogspot site so that we can all post. Will I loose multi-user access if I switch to iweb? And, if not, will everyone have to have access to my personal mac account in order to post?
    Thanks for the help.

    Having multiuser access requires that everyone share the Domain file where iWeb keeps its data and that each person only use the latest version of it. Of course each user must also have a Mac and iWeb installed as well. Personally I would stick with blogspot.

  • Is it possible access to dashboards by using network users insted of obiee

    Hi,
    can anybody have idea about this
    is it possible access to dashboard by using network users.insted of obiee users.i.ewhen you are login into presentation services it will ask user name and password. in this case it will not like that when we are log in to the sysytem by using user name and password.by using that user name and password it can directly access to the dashboard is it possible or not?means that by using network username and password can i able to login to the dashboard by cliking the presentation url.with out asking username and password again.
    please help me
    thanking you

    Yes, you can and if your presentation services are hosted on a windows server, thats lot more easy. While the presentation server is being promoted, you can have users get authenticated using LDAP/AD and that way, you need not go through typing username/pwd once again.
    Configure SSO
    Set IIS authentication to “Windows authentication”:
    Open IIS Manager => Select Default website => Right-click => Properties => Directory Security tab => Authentication and access contol => Edit … => deselect “Enable anonymous access” => Select “Integrated Windows authentication” => Ok => Ok => Select All => Ok
    Open the instanceconfig.xml file (located in OracleBIData\web\config). Set <SSO enabled = “true”>. Save and close file.
    Restart your server and start your OBIEE services.. You are good to go now.
    Like others said, may be you are better off with closing your questions so others can use it.

    I tried to download latest windows support using the boot camp , but the download stopped beacause of a network proplem ,  can you help?!

    I have the same issues.  I keep getting a "network error" even though my connections are fine.  I have installed Bootcamp fine on another Macbook, but am having major issues with my brand new one.  I have read the support forums where they say to keep trying because the servers are notoriously slow, but this seems a little ridiculous.  Hope I can get some help as well.
    Thanks!

    Update on my problem connecting in Itunes with my Airport Express. Not sure if anything I tried made a difference
    but I finally got the Pop up window saying this device requires a Password. I entered the password and I can once again use the Airport Express as a remote speaker.

  • Setup Lion Server for use in Small Office of Windows & Mac Clients

    I've purchased a Mac Mini Server with Lion Server installed to be used in my small office of less than 10 people.
    The primary goal of this server is to used for File Sharing, bother locally, and remotely.
    In the process of setting up Lion Server I have come across a couple things that I am confused about.
    The first is Open Directory.
    It is my understanding that this is not a necessary setup for the number of users in my office, however I set it up anyway as it appeared to be something that would be useful in the future.
    I have come across information that states Lion Server will not be accessible for Windows users connected via Open Directory. Thus my inclination is to disable the service, and set up my users as local users.
    My question is, for local and remote File Sharing, is there any benefit to using Open Directory?
    The second has to do with Remote Access.
    I am familiar with the notion of a VPN, but I need some clarification as to my remote access options.
    When I go to setup my Server's hostname, I am presented with three options. 1) Host name for local network, 2) Host name for private network, and 3) Host name for Internet.
    I have a domain name for my company's website, so I set up a subdomain (server.mycompany.com), asked my ISP for a Static WAN IP, and pointed thesubdomain to said IP using my DNS. Thus this appears to be option number 3; to allow users to connect to my server from the local network, as well as the Internet.
    My question is, how does this differ from a VPN both in setup, as well as method with which users will access the server? Is there a benefit to one over the other? I would Google this to find an answer, but I can't seem to find a name for what this setup is called.
    I very much appreciate any help you can provide.
    Thanks.

    Well, I spoke too soon.  Lion Server is unstable, awkward and is far too limited to qualify as an Apple product. Even though there's quite a few enhancements, the omissions of technologies in the server 10.6 edition makes this "server" a no go for us.
    Even after installing mysql, I still cannot run a Joomla website on Lion server as it should be done. The wiki's a nice thing to have, but isn't a "professional grade" solution.  There's too much iOS as well.
    With that said, I think it's a shame that apple would put customers through so much frustration and disappointment by releasing such a lame product. In order for us to use Lion server, we would have to be able to run a second (totally separate) instance of Apache. It also appears that server settings are changing to the extent that services become inaccessible as the system is running.

  • Impossible to access File server shares using a DNS alias

    I am currently testing migration scenarios to replace 2 standalone W2K3 File Servers into 1 W2K8R2 Failover Cluster.
    Everything went very well, shares are well accessible as long as I use the new File Server names, but...
    ... when I try to use DNS aliases (of the old servers), It is getting a nightmare!
    First, each time I tried to to connect to the shares using the alias name \\tempsf\ I got an error message prompting for Duplicate name on the network.
    I solved this first issue by applying the DisableStrictNameChecking
    reg key (see below). The Duplicate name error message disappeared and I was able to access to the \\tempsf\ folder but it was empty however I have 2 shares well displayed when accessing it through the real file server name. Moreover, I confirm that :
    ping tempsf resolves correctly the real file server name and IP
    nslookup tempsf do the same
    net view \\realfileserver displays my 2 shares
    net view \\tempsf doesn't display anything :-(
    Then, I almost tried everything currently documented :
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters Add a new DWORD value called DisableStrictNameChecking and set to 1.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters Add a new Multi-String value called OptionalNames. Enter one or more aliases, one per line.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters Add a new DWORD value called DisableLoopBackCheck and set to 1.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0 Add a new Multi-String Value BackConnectionHostNames. Enter one or more aliases, one per line.
    And also the SETSPN:
    setspn -A host/<your_ALIAS_name> <ServerrName>
    setspn -A host/<your_ALIAS_name.domain.com> <ServerNname>
    But still nothing... Launch date is approaching, I am feeling so desperate...
    Any idea? please... Thanks in advance,
    Max
    PS : Ahh yes, one more thing, we are using a third-party DNS here (Infoblox) but I don't think it could be the issue.

    Hello,
    Configure my new File Server (new name, new IP)
    Shutdown the old File Server
    Map the mirrored SAN disk to the new File Server
    Mount Storage and create shares (previously exported from old FS)
    Update Alias to point to point to new FS (in Infoblox)
    Update Reg keys, setspn and netdom as explained above
    Try access. Shares well displayed when using new FS name but nothing when using updated alias despite dns resolution is ok.
    I also found the following doc :
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2009/01/09/file-share-scoping-in-windows-server-2008-failover-clusters.aspx?PageIndex=2#comments which explain precisely the way the W2K8R2 File Servers are working but without giving any solution to my issue.
    Your doc was interesting but didn't help :-(
    Anyone else ? Thanks

  • Client access to Server application using Web Server

    Hi there.
    I'm working on a LabView application that controls several devices, read data from them and show their measures on the front panel, using different graphs and indicators. All the items defined in the project and the collected data is stored in a SQL Server database. The application includes another module ("Reports Module"), which consists of several windows (VIs Front Panels) where queries to the SQL Server database are made and displays lists of the selected data. This module can be accessed by the main menu of the software.
    Our intention is to deploy the application in a PC placed in the working site (server), and access the registered data using remote PCs (clients). The idea is to access the "Reports Module" via web.
    For this purpose, we are using the Web Server feature of LabView. The main VI of the "Reports Module" is defined with "Reentrant execution" (so that it can be accessed by multiple clients), and we create an HTML document of it using the Web Publishing Tool. We make an executable of the application (using the Application Builder) and, to create a Web Server in the deploy machine, we make use of what is stated in the following link:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/7F95D43D3F50FCAC8625710E000068E1?OpenDocument
    The problem we find is that when the main application is running in the server computer, if we access the "Reports Module" and begin selecting the queries options through its different windows, the same windows are opened in the server computer screen, so that it's difficult for an operator to control the main application on the server side if someone its accessing simultaneously through a remote client.
    Is there a way to do prevent this behaviour?
    Could you suggest me a different method to accomplish what we intend to do?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Francisco

    I played with remote front panels a really long time ago snd it was nothing but problems. I hear they have improved but what I did was abandon them for an extJS application to do what you are doing. It is now called Sencha. Sorry but I can't help with a pure LabVIEW solution.

  • How do I switch off Time Machine in Lion Server remotely?

    So here's what I want to do:
    I have a mac mini with OSX Lion Server running providing wireless backups for the laptops in the house. I want to rsync these backups, as sparsebundle images, to a machine at my work.
    I have the rsync working over ssh correctly, and have verified that if I rsync a sparsebundle there and back again then everything works fine. However, this only works if the sparsebundle wasn't mounted at the time of the sync.
    I can use 'ssh xxx@xxx "hdiutil info"' to determine if the image is mounted, but I would like ideally to be able to switch off time machine remotely for the duration of the rsync copy.
    Does anyone know of a command-line way of switching off Time Machine in OSX Lion Server from the command line.
    As an extra question, for bonus marks, is there any way of verifying that a sparsebundle is mountable from a windows machine?

    I'm going to answer my own question:
    I was more or less completely on the wrong track. When performing a networked time-machine backup the sparse bundle is mounted on the remote machine for one thing. So hdiutil won't tell me if the backup is going on.
    Also, backing up the sparsebundle is probably a bad idea in general, since if it's corrupt then none of the files will be easily recoverable.
    So instead I've written a bash script that
    a) mounts the sparse bundle on the server machine. If this fails, then a backup is in progress. The script exits in this case, but I guess it could always try again
    b) Performs an rsync on the contents of the sparsebundle
    c) ejects the sparsebundle.
    For those interested, here's the script. Note that I had to build rsync 3.0.9 to get this to work, the bundled rsync barfs on the hardlinks in time machine backups.
    (go here http://www.behindtherack.com/?p=308 for the rsync build instructions).
    And here's the script
    #!/bin/bash
    user=dave
    remotehost=your.home.machine
    remoteport=5050
    sshkeyfile=~/ssh.key.file
    imagepath="/Volumes/tmachine/Shared Items/Backups/machine-name.sparsebundle"
    remotepath="/Volumes/Time\ Machine\ Backups/Backups.backupdb/machine-name/Latest/"
    localpath=~/Local-backup-path
    # mount path
    mountresult=`ssh $user@$remotehost -p$remoteport -i $sshkeyfile "hdiutil mount \"$imagepath\" -readonly"`
    devpath=${mountresult%% *}
    # did the mount work out?
    if [[ "$devpath" == /dev/disk* ]]
    then
              echo "Mount succeeded, remote disk mounted to $devpath"
    else
              echo $mountresult
              echo $devpath
              echo "Remote mount failed, exiting"
              exit
    fi
    # now run the rsync
    /usr/local/bin/rsync -rv --rsync-path="/usr/local/bin/rsync" --rsh="ssh -p$remoteport -i $sshkeyfile -l $user" "$user@$remotehost:$remotepath" $localpath
    # unmount sparsebundle
    ssh $user@$remotehost -p$remoteport -i $sshkeyfile "hdiutil eject $devpath"
