Trying to patch my wireless drivers, kernal issues.

Im trying to patch my wireless drivers while following http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=compat-wireless
Now heres what my issue is, in the make file it looks for my directory "/usr/src/linux-3.8.*-1-ARCH", it uses "uname -a" to do so, but what ive ran into is that that folder is alway 1 number ahead of my actual kernel version.
EX:
uname -a shows me:
3.8.5-1-ARCH
While the only folder i have in /usr/src is:
/usr/src/linux-3.8.6-1-ARCH/
So its 6-1 when in reality my kernal is 5-1.
I went in and manually edited that since i knew that would be no biggie, then when i ran "make" as normal user it came up with this new error:
make[3]: *** [/home/dyzaster/Downloads/compat-wireless-3.6.8-1/drivers/bcma/main.o] Error 1
make[2]: *** [/home/dyzaster/Downloads/compat-wireless-3.6.8-1/drivers/bcma] Error 2
make[1]: *** [_module_/home/dyzaster/Downloads/compat-wireless-3.6.8-1] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-3.8.6-1-ARCH'
make: *** [modules] Error 2
So with this thread i have 2 questions, first off, is it normal for the folder and kernel version to be off like that? Im assuming no, and if not then how do i fix that? And most importantly what is this error and what do i do at this point?
Thank you for any and all feedback

You probably didn't paste the line which has the actual error.
The page you linked to is for older kernels, it links to http://drvbp1.linux-foundation.org/~mcg … t-drivers/, which has stuff for the 3.8 kernel.
There are some compat-drivers packages in AUR.
What patch(es) are you trying to apply?
I need to patch 2 drivers:
rtl8192cu (Which is a USB Dongle)
and
iwlwifi (Build in Athros wifi card+Bluetooth)
And i would rather use source for this then use the AUR, just to make sure its correct.
I dont see 3.8.6-1 there, because im sure you know more then i do about the kernel, which version should i use? "compat-drivers-3.8-1", or "compat-drivers-3.8-1-u"?

  • Wireless Drivers... Error :/

Hello all!!!. I Was able to Install a Full Arch Linux Install including a Full GUI (GNOME). Now i'm installing this on a MacBook Pro so this is INTEL hardware. I'm running the x86_64 version. Now im trying to install my Wireless drivers (Broadcom BCM312) Now i was able to compile and install YAY!. Using Makepkg and Pacman install method. Now following this guide to install http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_BCM4312 . I Now to do these following commads
    # modprobe lib80211_crypt_tkip
    # modprobe wl
    # insmod /lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/wl.ko
Now when i do this command i get the following error in Terminal: WARNING: /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf line 5: ignoring bad line starting with 'MODULES=(!snd_pcsp). Im getting this for "modprobe lib80211_crypt_tkip"
now when i do this command i get the following error in Terminal: WARNING: /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf line 5: ignoring bad line starting with 'MODULES=(!snd_pcsp)'. Im Getting this for "modprobe wl"
and Last but not least when i do this command i get the Follow error in Terminal: insmod: error inserting '/lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/wl.ko': -1 File exists. And im getting this for "insmod /lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/wl.ko". Please assist!
Thanks! And this is my Offical first post in Arch Linux Forums ::)

Correct - no bumping. See here for details on this and other guidelines for using this forum.
Re your issue - the first message is quite clear IMO. Line 5 of your modprobe.conf is not in the correct format i.e. it's a bad line, so modprobe is ignoring it. It also says it is a warning, not an error. If you want it to go away, fix line 5.
The second message is an error, due to a mistake on that wiki page. Use either modprobe or insmod (preferably modprobe) to load the wl driver, but not both.

  • HP all in one ms237 cant get wireless drivers to work

Hi i have a HP all in one PC, ive had this PC for a very long time, we upgraded to windows 8 and i dont remember how but i did manage to get wireless drivers on it at one point. the PC's hard drive went out and so i bought a new one and re-installed windows 8 (64 bit) onto it and now i cant get wireless drivers to get installed on it. I tried running the drivers with windows 7 compatability but no dice. I also tried different versions of the driver and still no luck, device manager will see the wireless card but says its not working properly (driver issue) the weird thing is that when i uninstall the drivers for it i can see the adapter in adpater settings, however when i install newer drivers and it goes back to being non existent lol. Any ideas?

    Hello @rapid3642,
I understand that you are having issues getting your wireless to work on your HP Pavilion All-in-One MS237 Desktop PC running Windows 8. As you probably have already figured out there are no Windows 8 drivers for your computer. I can see why you would have issues installing Windows 7 drivers on a Windows 8 computer. What you probably did initially was upgrade your Windows 7 to Windows 8 with the driver already installed. Unlike a new Windows 8 installation where you need to install the drivers an upgrade will already have drivers installed and the operating system is simply replacing what is needed without having to go through the installation process.
I would recommend that you either install your original Windows 7 and then upgrade to Windows 8 or you may want to look at replacing the 802.11 b/g/n PCI express wireless half-length mini card with one that is compatible with Windows 8.
I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Wireless Drivers in Win2K on Z61m

I recently installed windows 2000 and I am trying to get my wireless networking to function.  I have tried downloading the drivers on the lenovo site but have been unsuccessful.  There appear to be three drivers but I am uncertain which is the correct one so I have tried all three.  IBM System Update/Windows Update did not resolve the issue.  In device manager there is a PCI device that is not working of location PCI bus 21, device 0, function 3.
Any help on getting my wireless to function would be appreciated.

    Hello;
Well, if you already tried the same DAQ device on different machines and if the board didn't work on none of the machines, the board is most likely defective. The best way to go about that is to give NI a call and ask for a RMA number to have the board fixed.

  • Kernal Issue

I have been using 10.5.5 since this past summer and the frequency of my system crashing has increased. My system typically crashes shortly after booting up with the gray screen of death. It normally runs well after the initial crash (as if it needs to "warm up" but it has been freezing on a more frequent basis of late.
I am tired of this issue and it is especially frustrating when I am rendering videos etc. I have tried to read up on "Kernal issues" but I am not certain I completely understand the logic.
Should I uninstall the drivers for my printer, etc. one at a time and try and isolate the issue. Because my system normally only crashes after the initial start-up is there something else I can do to determine the exact cause? If I have to uninstall, and then reinstall, and wait for the crash it may take me weeks to resolve.
Can someone provide the best step by step instructions on how I can go about resolving the issue? Is there a diagnostic I can run? Appreciate the help!
    Thanks!

Frequent spontaneous kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem. Primary suspect is bad RAM. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostic screen appears. Run the extended diagnostics repeatedly for at least an hour. Note down any error messages produced. An error message with "MEM" in it means the RAM is bad.
You can test for software causes by creating a new user account. Boot the computer into safe mode then log out of your normal account and log into the new one. If the kernel panics do not recur, then you may have a problem with your account or third-party extensions, login items, startup items, etc. that could be the cause of the kernel panics. Disconnecting any third-party peripherals would also be a good idea as some may be the cause of the kernel panics.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on solving kernel panic problems.

  • Error when trying to patch Crystal Report 10

Hi, I'm having problem when trying to apply patches on PC running on Windows 7 64bit. Below is the error msg I got:
It seemed to be something to do with the registry as I was unable to find crystal report entries under ''HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Crystal Decisions\Crystal Reports\......" but all the .dll files were found under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Crystal Decisions........." though.
    Anyone able to help? Thanks..

    Hello,
Are you using the full Crystal Reports Designer itself? Or are you using a bundled edition of Crystal Reports that ships with Visual Studio?
Also, are you trying to patch Crystal Reports 10 itself - the actual report designer? Or are you trying to update runtime files for an application you created using the CR10 runtime files and deployed to a client machine?
Crystal Reports 10 (full, stand alone version) was never tested on Win7. CR10 reached End of Life for patch support on June 8, 2007. There's no expectation that CR10 will install or work correctly on the Win7 operating system. It's possible that it might work anyway, but I'd be surprised if there weren't any issues.
If you want to keep trying make sure you're using the correct patch for the product you're using. A patch for the full version of Crystal Reports will not work on a machine that is using the bundled edition of CR that ships with Visual Studio. They're not interchangeable. You didn't say which file you ran when you tried applying the patch.
    Sincerely,
    Dan Kelleher

  • Need wireless drivers for Satellite A100-259

    Hi
Had to reformat my daughters laptop (A100-259 PSAA2) due to virus issues and am in the process of rebuilding it. Almost there but can't seem to get the wireless bit to work. Nothing appears in the system tray even when it's switched on (little switch on the right has the light on). I assume because i've reinstalled XP that i need to reinstall the wireless drivers but i can't seem to find them on the toshiba web site (http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK). It only shows the Atheros management utility.
Any advice would be greatly appreciate especially as i'm pretty new to this kind of stuff and she has lost the manual that came with the laptop.
    many thanks
    Norrie

    Hi!
I dont know why no WLAN drivers are available for this A100 model and Windows XP but you can search for an other A100 model (for example Satellite A100 PSAA8).
Then you will find an Atheros WLAN driver for Windows XP and it should also work.
    Bye

I am trying to add a wireless printer to my MacBook Pro.  It was working properly until we had to get a new modem.  I have gone through the steps with the printer customer service rep, and it was working properly for one day.  When I booted up the next morning, the printer was no longer "connected".  It will work if I have the printer and computer connected, but I much prefer the wireless capability.  Suggestions? The printer is a Brother MFC7860DW.  The other laptop in the house (Dell) can print wirelessly so I don't think it's an issue with the modem or the printer.

  • Wireless drivers will not work properly in Win XP

    Hi,
I have a late 2007 white macbook and when I got the computer then I immediately installed Windows XP so I could have Microsoft Office. When I did so I installed the Boot Camp Drivers from the Mac instal disc 1. It worked fine for about a year, I don't use Windows much at all except for maybe powerpoint and for some reason the wireless internet stopped working.
I've tried reinstalling and repairing the drivers to no avail. Some of them like the iSight camera work and the eject button/ right click with two fingers.
The gray diamond for Boot Camp that used to appear in the windows toolbar (bottom right corner) does not load anymore. I'm not sure why not. that's probably the problem but I used the same install disc I used the first time (reinstalled them twice now) and this time it will not work completely.
Windows XP wireless utility does not recognize the signal, when you click "refresh network list" nothing happens....it doesn't even search.
Finally I tried installing the third party driver from Broadcom which has a wireless utility. this utility at least recognizes my network but cannot connect. the log for the utility just keeps saying:
    "Initializing Wireless State Machine"
The network conects fie to OSX and the three windows computers in my house....there is no protection.
    Thanks for the help!

printer not present when trying to connect even though drivers have been installed

    Hi Marc,
If you are having issues with printing from your iMac I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
    Mac 101: Printing (Mac OS X v10.6)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3771
    Specifically -
Troubleshooting steps you can use if there is an issue
Ensure the printer is connected, has power, has ink / toner, paper, and no alerts on its built-in display.
Network based printers should be on the same subnet; you shouldn't have to worry about this if your printer is on your home network.
Use Software Update for the latest available updates.
Delete the affected printer from Printer & Fax System Preferences, then re-add the printer.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Reset the printing system (see below). Then, add the printer again.
If the issue persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers from here. Then, add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Wireless Trackpad/Keyboard Issue Bootcamp Windows 7

Hi so i'm pretty much all the way to the part in windows where it tells you "Create User Name/Password"
1 Problem. My Wireless trackpad and keyboard worked all the way until this point. Now i get nothing. not even a twitch from my mouse
Keyboar is out too. Has this issue been solved? Do i need to find a usb keyboard? Please help?

hi, to get past this stage of the instalation you need to use a usb wired mouse, this means a mouse that has a wire and usb to plug into your mac.
the onscreen keyboard can be found if you click on the icon on the bottom left of the setup screen (looks similar to a wheelchair sgn)
a usb wireless mouse or keyboard will not work because the wireless drivers are not yet installed in windows. they will install along with all other drivers when you open the bootcamp drive (can be found in win7; "my computer"
in win 8; "this pc") and click on setup exe. this installs bootcamp on the windows side and installs all the drivers that you downloaded while originally running bootcamp assistant.

  • Wireless Music System Issue in Windows 7

I've been using the wireless music system for a few years and love it. However, I have an issue with it in Windows 7. all the software installs fine and appears to be functioning correctly. I did notice that the updated software driver does give me a network not ready error.
The main issue I have been unable to solve is when starting the media server it shows it's running at the address of 27.0.0. not the address of the machine. With it running at this address the receiver never can find the server.
I haven't been able to configure the receiver as I get a error message saying there is a problem with the wirelss network. when i do plug in the receiver, it lists the name I named it under XP. I am able to ping the device from Windows 7 as well as two other XP machines so it has retained it's address. When I boot back into XP it connects fine. I don't think the issue is with the receiver since when I go back to XP everything works fine.
Does anyone have an idea how to make the media server run on the IP address of the computer itself rather than the local host address? I noticed also that in the properties for windows media player in the network section in Windows 7 it also shows that it is running on the same 27.0.0. address.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hate to think I might have to come up with something new.

My Apple TV will not update to the latest software, dose anyone know what the problem is, I've reset, tried to do it wirelessly as well as while connected via Ethernet cable.. Both have resulted in the same message!! Update unsuccessful, current software version is 5.1 (5201) . I've rented a movie recently and does not appear in my movie list, but I have been charged for this movie, can someone help me out with these issues.

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.
If when you choose restore you get a message that the device cannot be found, download the file below
Apple TV Software Restore 5.1.1 (2nd generation)
Apple TV Software Restore 5.1.1 (3rd generation)
Then hold down the option key while choosing restore and select the downloaded file when prompted.
