Trying to reach Lenovo support for urgent hardware repairs; is anyone home?

I have a warranty on my Thinkpad T530 that includes next-day, on-site support. I have been trying to contact Lenovo about getting my failing hard drive replaced (also need a USB port and DELETE key replacement), but I've been unable to get through.
I don't have access to a phone right now, so I have been trying to place a support request online. Lenovo's chat support said no representatives were available. I've tried twice to submit an electronic support request through the IBM website, and both requests were mysteriously canceled.
Can someone please help? Any support people on this forum? Thanks!
Gentoo Linux/Windows 7 Home Premium on Lenovo Thinkpad T530

Hello toiletresin,
Has the issue with your ThinkPad T530 been resolved?
If not, could you send me a private message including...
Your first and last name
Phone number where you can be contacted, if available
Email address where you can be contacted
Full address of where the machine is located (for onsite service)
The Machine Type, Model, and Serial Number of your T530
A complete description of the problem(s) to be resolved
If you can send me this information, I will work to have our contact center process your service request and get someone out to repair your machine.
I'm sorry it's taken this long for someone at Lenovo to respond to your post, but these forums are not typcially monitored by Lenovo personnel. They are intended for peer-to-peer support.

  • Saddened at the loss of support for 32bit hardware

My 32bit '07 Mac is crying and I am too,
As a strong supporter of Apple products early on I've been let down at the resent change to support only 64 bit hardware. As a old geek from the 80's I understand the movement to bigger, stronger, faster. Though as a father of 7 I don't have the luxury to keep up, even at a low end with the Macs. I have an '07 Mac and carried the news of how innovative and user friendly Apple products are to all my windows friends. They now continued to be amazed at the strong leadership into what I agree the future of this technology is. It saddens me that at this point I will not be able to even keep up at a cheap end. I hope in the next months support for 32bit hardware may arise. Though honestly I was hoping that as an early adopter of your hardware you may be able to do something on the low end to assist me. I just would like to continue to be able to support our company as it moves forward into what we both know the future holds. Pickup and play technology, seamless to the user.

  • Trying to understand Lenovo support - I just need a basic question answered

I have a few Thinkstation S20 desktops that are now out of warranty and I am trying to re-purpose them for lab machines.  These desktops do not have any Windows 7 product key stickers on them and I would like to put Windows 7 Pro on them.  I assume they probably were shipped with Windows 7, but these came from another office in our company and they might have been ordered as CAD workstations.  However, if they are allowed legally to have Windows 7, I would like to install it.  With our older Dell's systems, we can go into Dell's website, put in a service tag and see the original configuration.  There doesn't appear to be this simple way of doing this on Lenovo's website...is there?
What is the deal with Lenovo support?  I've had some awful experiences and this one is no exception.  Read on if you are interested in the absurd support details...
So I call the main Lenovo 800 support number.  After I give the lady all my information, she says "oh, this is a thinkstation, and you are in the wrong department...let me transfer you".  So, after a long hold, I get another person on the phone...I go through all the information on the system in question, explain that I am trying to find out if this machine came with an OEM Windows 7 license.  After a few more minutes, she now tells me "Oh, this is a Thinkstation...I cannot support those...you have to call a different phone number".  She give me the phone number (which is the ORIGINAL phone number I called!!!) and tells me to push option 2, then option 1, and put in a machine type of 4155, even though the machine type is really 4157.  I confirm with her that she is giving me the wrong machine type, but she insists I use that one.  So, I call back the other 800 number, go through ALL the information a third time, and she tells me these machines are out of warranty.  I know they are out of warranty, I just want find out if they came with Windows 7 Professional!  She says she needs to transfer me to the software department.  I get put on hold again, and then have to give ALL my information to the NEW person for the 4th time!  After a long hold, she finally gets back to me and tells me this is a CTO model and customizable by the customer.  She then says her records show it came with Vista.  This machine was built well after the release of Windows 7...I have no idea how it came with Vista, and she says I need to call the vendor and find out why there is no sticker on it.

    Hi jbobst,
if you go to the support site, http://support.lenovo.com/us/en, or click on support at the top of the forum you will be able to search on the model type of your system after selecting Search by Machine Type Model.
If your system is a CTO, Configured To Order, this wont unfortunately tell you which OS was preinstalled in which case you can use Parts Lookup; this will usually state which OS was installed. For Parts Lookup only the first 4 characters of the MTM are required.

  • Lenovo support for t61 in UK

    Hi
I brought t61 from USA and now I am in UK. I crashed the BIOS - Lenovo UKcustomer support cannot support it because they do not have parts !!!!
Does anybody have any experience to send laptop to USA to service from UK? Otherwise can I fix dead BIOS problem locally?
    Thanks in Advance
    Dijo

call lenovo US and discuss the options that is available to you, if they got parts the turn around time would around 2~3 weeks, if they don't have parts you could be waiting for around 1 month.

  • Any news on Lenovo support for LTE 4G from ATT and/or Verizon?

I'm getting close to ordering several T410 notebooks, but I came up with another reason to wait:
As far as I can tell, Lenovo is currently installing WiMax 4G modems in the T410, but not the Qualcomm Gobi MDM9600 LTE 4G modem that supports both future LTE 4G service from ATT and Verizon and current 3G service from both carriers.  I would prefer to have a 4G LTE modem, not WiMax.
Anyone know if Lenovo has any plans to start installing 4G LTE modems?
The other option would be to get the current Gobi 2000 modem and just upgrade it later myself- is that sort of upgrade an easy card swap, or something harder (I'm thinking built-in 3G antennas may cause problems if I try to upgrade to LTE later).
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm interested as well. We are planning some X201 and T400 purchases.

  • Where can I find the support for CC Switzerland? Has anyone a phone number where I can talk to real people?

I'm looking now for 30 minutes without finding a phone number to call. By pressing the SUPPORT button and then with a click on CC > Contact > Decisions to buy > Need further Help? Please contact us > a window opens saying "Ask the community". Well, here I am. It's a shame that nobody is available by phone. The FAQ's are not 100% satisfying and the question I have is not mentioned. Please, if somebody knows the phone number for Switzerland I really would appreciate. THANX!

    Hi, Atul
Thank you for your answer. I use now for almost 16 years Adobe products and would inform me about the possibilities to switch to CC. We are using multiple computers in different countries. Does my wife need to have a separate account or can I buy a full license and we can use all the software we need on all our computers? I have 2 accounts. One in Switzerland and a main account in France. If I decide for CC I need at least CS3 software running on one of my computers. What, if I will sign a CC contract with my Swiss account, but only on my French account valid CS software is registered?
I prefer to talk to an Adobe Sales Manager by phone. Why can't I find a phone number on the Adobe website? Why do I need to write in English? The software I use is all in German. Thank you for your help!

  • Trying to burn a DVD for my mum to send her home photos

Through help in another forum I have made a slide show from my photos in iphoto (98 pics) and exported them to movies. I then (under advice) opened these in iDVD and tried burning them to a DVD+R disc (twice on separate occasions!) It takes a long time! Both times nothing has been burned to the disc even though it said it was burning. I may have missed some window comments as I wasn't there the whole time. I checked under system profiler that Mac OSX 10.4.11 and it seems that I can read DVD+R and DVD-R. What went wrong? Did I miss a crucial setting up stage? I have reinserted the disc into my computer and it says it's blank.
PS I have a Wharfedale M3 DVD player and on various review sites it says it will read anything. So I live in hope. My DVD+R disks are supermarket Tesco variety that says Technica, Bush, Alba, Daewoo, Goodmans, Matsui, Philips
Have I got the wrong DVD's?

It's always a good idea to buy good quality DVDs because lower quality discs often will have imperfections that increase playback errors. That said, it doesn't sound like the discs are the primary problem. Are you importing the movies or dragging into the menu button area (not drop zones)? What's the total length in time of your slideshows/movies? (under 60 min gets you max quality). It will take a long time to encode video depending on the speed of your processor.
Here are some general tips to increase the odds of successful burns:
Lots of memory helps; and you'll need 10-15 gigs of free space on your main hard drive for scratch space.
Buy good quality disks - I've seen recommendations for Maxell, Sony, Verbatim, TDK and a few others based on testing. I primarily use the first two and usually don't have trouble.
    Give yourself lots of time.
Turn off your screen savers and energy savers; don't let your hard drive go to sleep.
Get your computer healthy and ready for some heavy lifting. (video work could be the hardest job your computer can do) I use MacJanitor (from VersionTracker.com) followed by Apple's DiskUtility's Repair Permissions.
Most of the time iDVD is working, it is encoding (compressing) your video to fit on the DVD. Create an image .img file (Save to Disc Image) and use Toast or Disk Utility to burn it to disk. Burn slower than the highest rated speed of your burner (eg. 1 or 2x on a 4x burner).
I keep my projects under 60 minutes (for highest resolution).
I import into iDVD rather than export from iMovie or iPhoto (fewer errors).
    No other apps open.
Let it encode and burn while you go to bed; it can take awhile, esp. on older Macs.
If you use iDVD for burning the DVD (and don't make a disk image), don't quit iDVD even when the DVD is burned, until you've played the DVD in a regular player (it's much easier to burn another disk and check to see if the problem was a bad disk, than to go back through all that encoding again by quitting iDVD).

  • Lenovo support phone numbers no longer connected

Since my fan noise problem on my T60p model 2613-H5U is extremely bad now and I have another year left on my Warranty with on-site support, I am trying to reach the support phone numbers I can find listed on the lenovo site for Thailand. None of them work. Can any lenovo staff on this board please help me to log a hardware support ticket?  On http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4HWSE3 it shows the 1800 number for Thailand as 1-800-060-066, when I call it it is no longer in service. I found another number for Thailand on another lenovo page 1-800-299-229 which is also no longer in service.

Update: I tried in the last few days to use the IBM electronic service call system online to log the ticket and it did not work. Now I tired to use another web browser to submit a ticket and this works. So the Opera browser is not supported by the esc system. Now I have a ticket in the system with a hardware request to replace the thermal / fan unit FRU 41V9931. Let's see what happens.

  • Support for Old Vibrating Sample Magnetometers

    Hello.
I am a relative newcomer to LabView and I am trying to get some support for a few older Vibrating Sample Magnetometers (VSM) on behalf of my employer.  These machines are quite old and, although they have GPIB connectivity, I am having difficulty in being able to control them using LabView.  Although they use the IEEE-488 GPIB standard, they were built before the introduction of the Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI), rather than the newer 488.2 standard.  As such, they work with their own proprietary commands, which are proving impossible to find.  I have a working LabView program that was written by a university student for a master's degree in physics.  However, I cannot communicate with the individual components, such as the gaussmeter, power supply, etc, using measurement and automation explorer.  They don't even respond to an "*IDN?" query without timing out, which I thought was standard.  I have tried lengthening the timeout time and tried to use drivers for similar instruments.  My question to anyone out there is, do you have the drivers or the programming manual for any of the components listed below?  The Vibrating Sample Magnetometers were built by the now defunct DMS/ADE.  The current owners of DMS/ADE can offer little support for such old equipment.  Likewise, is there something else I can try in lieu of these drivers and commands?
Devices:  1.) DMS Model 1660 VSM, 2.) DMS/ADE VSM Model 4, which includes the DMS/ADE model 32KP gaussmeter with its own GPIB port.
    Thank you for your time,
    Liam

    Hi Liam,
As per GPIB 488.2, as I already mentioned, the ibEOSchar under Ibconfig is an 8 bit value so it will take value from 0 to 255 for which 3 number width is sufficient. Measurement and Automation Explorer also works in the same way. EOS byte value under Termination Settings section of GPIB settings accepts a decimal number from 0 to 255 and it will not allow any character and also value more than 255 as its field is limited to 3 numbers and even if you enter a value more than 255, it will be automatically changes to 255.
So, As per 488.2, You cannot give both carriage return and linefeed characters together and you cannot use the same in MAX also.
Try framing your entire command with EOS as per built in LabVIEW carriage return and linefeed functions and use GPIB Write.vi to send this entire frame. It may work.
Also, I would like to see your VSM's communication manual and understand how these commands have been implemented.
Coming to IBEOS command, its easily understandable and its used to Configure the end-of-string (EOS) termination mode or character. It have low byte and high byte.
Low byte is always an 8 bit EOS character and high byte can take three forms which are A, B and C. Also High byte can have values with combination of A,B or C.
For Example, ibeos (ud, 0x140A); means, Configure the software to end reads on newline character (hex 0A) for the unit descriptor. Here high byte is a combination of A and C where as low byte is the HEX equivalent of ASCII Line feed character.

Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details).

  • How do I contact support for ProDAD Mercalli?

I am evaluating Premiere Pro CS5.5 on Mac OS X & downloaded the  demo version of the stablisation plug-in ProDAD Mercalli V2 & was so  impressed that I paid $249 for the standalone & plugin versions for  Windows & Mac. As it turns out there is no standalone version for  Mac but that is by the by. The very big problem that I have is that I  cannot unlock the demo version that puts a pink cross on the image &  cannot contact anyone at ProDAD to get some help.
I removed every last trace of Mercalli I could find. I have removed  & re-installed Mercalli & Premiere several times. I do not get  an UnlockMercalli program installed as described in the PDF manual &  help but the whole description of installation & registration in  the manual, help & FAQ doesn't match up with what I see anyway e.g. I  cannot register the product for "free email technical support" because  there is no 'Registration' button
The problem is that there is apparently no way of contacting ProDAD  technical support or obtaining any support for this product. The emails  with download link & serial number came from element5.com who appear  to be just handling the on-line shop. I am directed to www.prodad.com  for technical support but as far as I can see there is no help there  beyond a few FAQs. I can find no way of raising a support ticket, no  support forum, not even an email address. This is crazy for a moderately  expensive & very sophisticated software product.
This has been the most frustrating exercise that from some other forum  posts that I found while Googling others have had severe difficulties  getting any support for Mercalli.
Please does anyone have a way of contacting ProDAD support? At present I  have a non-functioning piece of software that I cannot get fixed or  even figure out how to get a refund.

Thanks for that link which is hidden away on the ProDAD website & leads to a form to be filled to contact ProDAD. I received an email back this morning & a link to download an unlocked version of the Mac plugins so now all is working. [email address deleted by host]
