my ipod classic is visible in windows but not in itunes, this happens on 2 different computers where my iphone and ipod touch work fine which leads me to think something is up with the ipod itself and i cant find any threads to help.
any thoughts anyone??

Perhaps the reason you haven't had any replies is because there is no such thing as an 8GB iPod Classic.
I suggest that you begin by correctly identifying which iPod you have.

My iPod Classic is seen by Windows but not by iTunes.  I have reset it, gone to disk mode and it won't show up in iTunes.  There appears to be music on it in a file called MUSICSAVE.  How can I get this to work with iTunes again?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • IPod Classic 80GB shows on desktop but not in iTunes, so will not sync

My work Mac has just been upgraded to 10.5.8, and with it iTunes to 10.1. Now, when I connect my iPod, it appears on the desktop but not in the iTunes panel. As such, it won't sync any new content.
There is no problem with the cable, as the iPod charges while connected. I've tried resetting the iPod about a dozen times, which has no effect (once in a while the iPod says it is synchronizing, but this only lasts a few seconds and then disappears). Is there anything else I should try before I take the big step of formatting the iPod? I'm reluctant to do this because at the moment I at least have an iPod full of music - if I format and it still won't sync, I'll have a useless empty black box! Is it possible to go back to the previous version of iTunes which was syncing fine?

    Have you seen this?

  • IPod visible in Windows but NOT in iTunes - please help!

I just got this sexy black iPod. Too bad I can't use it! Please help!
Here's what I've done thus far to try to troubleshoot why Windows sees my iPod but iTunes does not:
-went through the 5 R's (http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/) Did this twice with NO luck! I obviously was not able to do the fifth R (restore) since iTunes never saw my sexy black iPod.
-reinstalled iTunes many times (restarted the service, deleted temp files etc)
    -went through these steps: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
-made sure that Terminal Services is set to Manual (in services)
-made sure the the black thing was not on 'hold'
-hit menu & select for 10 seconds
-tried on a different PC with a fresh copy of WinXP Pro installed. Same thing! Windows sees the iPod but iTunes does not.
-I ran the diagnostic and it says that my iPod is connected! What!? No it's not!
It also seems kind of slow, however, I don't have anything to compare this to.
I'm beginning to think that my iPod is iBroken. I'm very iDissapointed.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Ipod (click 40g) recognized by windows, but not by itunes strange problem

    Hey,
Since about two weeks my ipod is not recognized by itunes.
I suspect it started when i unplugged the ipod (accidentely) when the 'do not disconnect' sign was still on.
Since then every time i plug in my ipod, it is recognized by windows as plugged in hardware. When opening windows explorer, i can see my ipod, but clicking on it, to view its contents causes the explorer to jam. Itunes also does not recognize the ipod at all. IpodUpdater tends to be a little bit unpredictable about whether it will recognize the ipod.
i tried al the five R's. Resetting, reinstalling itunes and my ipod, retrying on a different computer, restarting, restoring.
My ipod itself seems to work fine. it sometimes jammed during a song, which never occured before. but now, since i restored my ipod, i don't have any music any more, so i can't test it.
When trying my ipod on a different computer, i managed to get it recognized on itunes once. but when i tried to copy music, the connection failed and itunes froze.
the sound my ipod makes is also a bit strange. when
i open ipodupdater, and the updater tries to connect to the ipod, the ipod seems to start up with a zooming (normal) sound, but then, after a second you hear a little ipod-cracklingsound, and it starts all over.
is there any suggestion at all about what i can do to try to
    fix this myself
    greetings
    river

I have a very similar problem except that I have tried all the remedial steps but the last. I cannot get the ipod updater to recognise the ipod at all, A reset simply resets and the do not disconnect message comes back after a few seconds. Again, My Computer can see the ipod as a hard drive but it cannotb access it and this causes My Computer to stop responding. Grateful for any help.

  • Ipod classic shows on mac desktop, but not in itunes

I have an ipod classic that connects fine to my dell computer (with Windows 7) but when I try to connect it to my MacBook Air it shows up on my desktop but won't connect to itunes. I've made sure I have the most current version of itunes, and have tried multiple ways of plugging it in and have restarted my computer, but I still can't get it to show up. Please help!

    Hello!
You need to put your iPod into Forced Disk Mode and restore it using iTunes.
Try resetting your iPod by following these steps:
    1. toggle to hold switch on and then off again
    2. press the Menu and Center/Select buttons together until the screen goes black (should take no longer then 30 seconds)
    3. as soon as you see the Apple logo let up on the buttons and press down the Center/Select and Play/Pause buttons until a checkmark appears on the screen.
    4. connect your iPod to your computer and restore thru iTunes

  • Ipod classic recognised as external disc, but not by itunes

I've had a 120gb Classic for a while and more recently got an iphone. I had no problems with either, until recently. When I attach my classic, itunes does not recognise that it is there, yet it still appears as an external drive on my desktop. I am not aware of any changes I have made or that might have led to this issue.
    All help much appreciated!

    Further update:
I've tried resetting the ipod. I've tested it with two cables and two usb ports that all work fine with my iphone and other usb devices. I've reinstalled itunes. I'm reluctant to fully restore the ipod just yet and wonder if anyone has any other suggestions?
    Many Thanks

  • IPod classic recognized in 'my computer' but not in iTunes

This has been going on for about a year and I've been able to fix it (but now I can't remember how) but now nothing will work. I connect it and this message pops up and asks 'Do you want to scan and fix iPod?' and I click 'continue without scanning' (because clicking scan and fix does nothing) and then my iTunes freezes. I don't know what to do!

Next time you plug your iPod in, ignore the Scan and Fix message.  Click the Start Menu and type "cmd" into the search bar.  Then click on the appropriate Command Prompt application that appears in the results.
Then inside the command prompt type chkdsk [driveletter]: /f and then hit Enter.  So if you iPod's drive letter was g you would type chkdsk g: /f.
This should resolve the issue of the scan and fix prompt.

  • My ipod is recognized in windows but not in itunes. I ran the troubleshooter and followed all of the steps to fix it....itunes still does not recognize my ipod.  Anyone know how to fix this?

My ipod is recognized in windows but not in itunes. It shows up in devices and gives me the ok to eject prompt, so I know that the connection is good. I ran the troubleshooter and did all the recommended fixes.  Hours and hours later, I still have the same problem. I uninstalled itunes and all its folders, restarted the apple device services and changed the drive letter. Checked my security settings and everything else I can think of. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Did you remove all Apple related software including QuickTime, Safari, Software Update utility for Windows, etc using the exact instructions in this Apple support document?
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port and not a USB or similar?  Have you tried different cables to help rule out a faulty or damaged cable?
Does it connect to iTunes okay on another PC or Mac?

  • TS1363 "iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes" Isn't working!

I've tried all of the things in the "iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes" but none of them work.
I'm on Windows 8 and those are the instrucations I've followed.
The only thing I haven't done is reset my computer to factory mode but that Isn't an option for me cause I got saved games that can't be backed up.
I've literaly tried everything in that help page and it doesn't work.
All I get is the iTouch charging, asking me to trust the computer, I say trust, nothing happens, I check the device manager and it doesn't shw the USB no matter what, I restart the ipod services and the apple software services, nothing happens, I completely take dwn my McAfee firewall and scanning system, it doesn't work, restarting it to make sure no viruses attack, uninstalled Razer Synapsis because it has been a pain in the butt before, that doesn't work, I emptied my Temp file and that didn't work, And in the end the iTouch is charging but not even being see by Itunes and no updates, restarts, reinstallations, uninstallations, checking, researching, and anything else I can do works.
Can someone please explain why apple tech is such a pain when it comes to Windows 8 and how I can fix this without losing 2 years worth of school and saved games?!?!?!?

Try a full teardown as in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates?
A recent poster to forum is suggesting uninstalling WMP from Windows?
Connect the device to a different compuer and back it up there. You should be able to copy off the library to a portable hard drive. See also Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Apple, Pfft!!! (Another iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes post)

How in the world does Apple market the iPod, etc... as if 10-year olds and grandmothers can operate the technology, when having viewed these message boards for 10 hours yesterday, it seems as even the tech savy people who can make a computer out of two pieces of bread and a piece of bologna have to wrack their brains to make it come a step closer to actually working. Blah!!!
Anyway, the problem that I am having is the problem that a lot of other people are having and seems to be the main theme at the moment.
I am unable to have iTunes recognize my iPod. My PC will once-in-a-blue-moon recognize the iPod as its own drive in Windows Explorer, but mostly all I get is the big freeze. Every time I connect my iPod to the USB, all of the programs cease to operate until I unplug it. I am not having memory problems either.
Here's what I've done. I have updated the iPod Updater to the 06-23-06 version. I was able to get it to update the software on my 60GB iPod. I got all excited only to then have it give me several error messages 1) an internal manager error and 2) some unable to dock or something like that (sorry I'm not at my home cpu.) Once while I was doing the 4-hour battery charge my iPod came up in the source list in iTunes, but I have been unable to have it be rerecognized.
I've unistalled and reinstalled iTunes and the iPod Updater over 10 times and have gone through the 5 Rs as well as all of the steps on
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716 (My iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes)
I've even messed with msconfig and tried a whole bunch of other suggestions. It doesn't seem that Apple has a fix for this problem and we are all left with paperweights.
    Any suggestions?
Thanks you all and condolences to everyone who is going through this same problem. I swear what happened to plug and play. Pfft!!!

You know they are probably going to search me out and crash my computer for posting this but i had the same problem with iTunes. i spent hours, went through the 50000 "R's" and changed my settings and formatted and reset and reloaded and then i tried Realaudio. it found all the songs i had loaded into iTunes and put them on my shuffle first try. you can get Realaudio at <www.real.com> Let me know how it works...

  • IPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes

I have recieved a new IPod video 30Gb off my g/f (how nice of her :D) anyway when I plug it into my computer it will not appear in iTunes, a problem plenty of people are having it seems. The difference being I think I know what caused the problem but I'm having trouble with it still.
When I recieved the Ipod I tried it on my girlfriends computer and it worked fine. She already had an ipod and itunes installed. I was able to add music no problem and it appeared in itunes. She however was having problems downloading on her computer for websites or using download sofware since installing itunes and the problem went away when itunes was uninstalled.
Because of this (there were work arounds so I'm not after a fix for that) I thought I try using other software to see if that stopped me having this problem. This meant when I got my ipod home I plugged the ipod into my computer and did not install anything off the disc. This I believe is what has caused my problem for not being able to see my ipod in itunes.
Anyway I tried to get other software to work (winamp at the time) but couldn't figure it out and so thought I'd just bite the bullet and install itunes and hope I didn't have the same problems as my g/f.
After installing and plugging my ipod in again nothing happened. I checked My Computer and the ipod was there and called PHIL'S IPOD but nothing was in itunes. I then followed all the instructions on here :
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
but it still won't pick up my ipod.
Is there anything else I can try to get my ipod to appear in itunes I really do want to use it but at the minute I can't at all.
    Thanks in advance.

Two years ago I had to return an ipod mini to the shop for a refund as I could not get it to work. It showed up in windows but not in itunes. I spent about a week trying EVERYTHING, blamed apple for some stupid glitch and gave up. Ten days ago my daughter got an ipod nano, and since we share the same pc I did warn her of what might happen. Yup, it did. Exactly the same problem. Once again I tried all the tricks, the five Rs, renaming the drive, you name it, I did it. Throughout this period though my PC was running a little slow and weird things were happening and despite using Norton Antivirus and other anti spyware I suspected I had not fully recovered from some sort of infection which drove me mad by blasting me with popups for 888 casinos etc. What I thought was really odd was that nothing showed up in Device Manager and having googled around a bit I came across this from which you can download a AproposFix.
So if this sounds like your problem go here:
    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,14679793
and try it. The ipod now works, my daughter turned pink with delight, and my PC is now back to normal speed and all sorts of other seemingly unconnected annoyances have been resolved. I really do wish Apple could be more aware of problems like this as there seem to be many thousands of 'users' (ha ha) out there who look as if they are having similar problems.

  • Fix for "iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes"

This is a possible fix for those with the "iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes" problem. This also fixes those have the update/restore problem (ipod disconnects after clicking update/restore in itunes)
    SOLUTION
    SOLUTION
I had the exact same problems before, iTunes doesn’t recognize iPod after connecting it, I had to use the restart iPod Service method to get it working.
I tried this on my second computer and it worked perfectly, iTunes recognizes iPod every time I plug it in.
I compared the process/services opened in both computers, and I turned on some services which were previously on disable(excluding iPod Service). Unfortunately I forgot which services it was, so I took some screenshots and compare these with your services.
After modifying the services, I tried plug and unplug the iPod several times without closing iTunes, iPod was instantly recognized by iTunes every time!
I attached the links to screenshots of my automatic services and manual services, ignore the service if its not on your list!
For those don’t know how to open Services, Start -> Run -> “services.msc”

  • TS3988 i changed my apple id email and when i sign into iCloud on my phone it still comes up with the old email and my password isn't working for it?

i changed my apple id email and when i sign into iCloud on my phone it still comes up with the old email and my password isn't working for it?

Try going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
