MacBook Pro. When trying to powering up the sleep light blinks five times then there's a pause, then blinks five more times and then shuts down. hard drive spins up for a few seconds in the beginning. I've tried pulling ram from a working MacBook Pro from same generation and it didn't seem to make any changes. battery has been dead for years.  serial number of mac is W8819AWHYJX,
Thanks for any help you might provide.

If you don’t hear beeps, but the sleep indicator light flashes five  times when you start it up or wake it from sleep, its battery may need  service. Take the battery to an Apple Authorized Service Provider, such  as an Apple Retail Store.

  • I live in Louisiana. Every search, and website that I vist lists local events or preferences for Chicago. Any idea why this is happening or how I can fix it? It's almost like the internet thinks that I live in Chicago?????

If I go to google news, it automatically lists local news for Chicago. If I go to any website that lets me look at local events, it pulls events for Chicago. Even Pepsi Refresh project, I clicked a button for "projects near me" and it pulls projects in Chicago. WHY?

This only happens with this business. No other email has this problem.

I suspect that activenetwork.com is the actual provisioner of the email service used by cornerstoneonline.com and there is a misconfigured server or MX record somewhere that is failing to substitute the appropriate ''from:'' address.
The ''reply-to:'' looks like a ham-fisted attempt to get replies to go back to the preferred account, but they don't help you as all the ''from:'' addresses are incorrect.
Now, cornerstoneonline.com appears to be a church-related organization:
    Domain Name: CORNERSTONEONLINE.COM
    Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.godaddy.com
    Registrar URL: http://www.godaddy.com
    Admin Organization: Cornerstone Christian Fellowshiip
    (from their whois record)
and activenetworks.com provides "software for the unique needs of your church"
    http://www.fellowshipone.com/features
So it would appear that cornerstone buy some services from activenetworks, (including email) and this appears in the originating address. Ideally it would be aliased to an email address on the cornerstoneonline.com domain.
I suspect that someone at cornerstone has misconfigured settings at godaddy.com, from whence they appear to purchased the cornerstoneonline.com domain.

  • Upon pushing power button my mac pro sits in a holding status with the power light blinking continuously.  Fans kick on and it never goes to startup.  Trickle LED shows good as does the Power LED.  No RAM DIMMS are lit either.

Upon powering on my Mac, the power light begins to flash, the fans kick on and the it seems to lock up.  Screen does not come on.  I have confirmed it has Trickle and Power by checking the diagnostic LED's on the mother board.  No other LED's are lit.  None of the RAM LED's are lit either.  I removed the battery from the motherboard and waited ten minutes, then reinstalled it.  What could the issue be?
    Mac Pro specs are:
OS X, Duel Processor, 2.6 GHz, Duel Core, Intel Xeon, 12GB DDR2 RAM

As a general rule, pairs in adjacent slots. Largest sizes on lowest-numbered slots on each riser in turn. It will in work most any order, then when you get close to a final arrangement there is a small .pdf manual available that shows "optimum" arrangement.

  • I have a TON of bookmarks that I want to back up, but when I open the window to organize them, back them up, etc., none of them are there! Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how to fix it?

On the dropdown menu where my bookmarks are, I select "show all bookmarks", which opens up a window called "Library". I should have hundreds of bookmarks, but none of them are showing in this window.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

If so that is not the charger ,that is the cable
The charger is the device that plugs into the mains socket

My bank card will no longer link to my billing information when it has previously worked; I'd like to know why this is happening and how to resolve it

Do you mean that it's being declined, that you are getting an error message, ... ?
If it's a debit card then I don't think that they are still accepted as a valid payment method - they are not listed on this page and there have been a number of posts recently about them being declined
If it is a credit card then is it registered to exactly the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, it was issued by a bank in your country and you are currently in that country ? If it is then you could check with the card issuer to see if it's them that are declining it, and if not then try contacting iTunes support and see if they know why it's being declined : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

10.7.5 is not Snow Leopard so we have to wait and see, the answers to the question I asked will define what it really is.

  • When I switch libraries I lose the majority of the material in my main library and can only restore it by repairing the database. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I can resolve the problem? Thanks

When I switch libraries I "lose" the majority of the material in my main library (or at least I can't see it) and can only restore it by repairing the database. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I can resolve the problem? Thanks

I seem to have found a way around it. Rather than switching libraries by going into files/switch libraries I used Aperture Preferences to change them. I've done it a couple of times and it appears to work OK.
That is an interesting finding. It suggests, that your "Preferences" file "com.apple.Aperture.plist" may have been corrupted and you fixed it this way. Can you now switch between libraries the usual way? If not, I'd try to remove the "preferences" file from the user library to the Desktop and relaunch Aperture.

I have a MacBook Pro that will not boot up. The apple symbol is there and the spinning wheel keeps spinning. Any idea how I can fix this?

    Reinstall OS X.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    OR
Reinstall Snow Leopard without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.
