How do you resolve a problem with a system that shuts itself down after a safe reboot and when the progress bar is completed? Thanks.

Thanks for you response - the honest answer is I don't know, not being particularly IT literate. I do know however that I'm running Maverick if that is of any help?
I also tried the Command R route, along with holding some other keys as per the Apple troubleshooting guide, but no luck. My wife pointed out though that the system was running slowly over the last few days and we had quite a lot of the 'spinning beach ball' before being able to undertake tasks.
Lastly, I inserted my start up disk bit as the system is unable to start I'm now unable to retrieve it. All-in-all a real pain.
Appreciate any advice. Many thanks.

I'm very interested in how you cope with release management in the Portal (PCD).
Where I'm focusing on is the release of a "project" trough your landscape (Dev, Test, QA, Prod)
When starting a project you start with a new folder lets say "My Custom App" that contains all your content.
Once done you transport to Test, QA and eventually Prod. Now the Content is in use and roles are assigned.
Request for changes arive from the customer and eventually a new release need to be implemented.
Offcourse you could then change/update the content in the initial folder and transport that to Test, QA again but you will not be able to fix incidents while creating the new release because objects maybe touched.
I was thinking about a scenario where you create subfolders in your application folder, see example below:

|--- Release 1.0
|--- Release 1.1
|--- Release 2.0
|--- Current
You only do this on your Dev system. Everytime a Release is OK you put it in the "Current" folder and transport this to Prod.
Using this you won't have to change the Role assignments in your different landscapes as they are always pointing to the "Current" folder. In addition this scenario enables you to provide Pilot rollouts to smaller groups parallel to the Major release.
My question to you is to shoot on it and give your oppinion/feedback... where possible provide links to SAP document or best practices that describe this subject...

It is an interesting approach you describe and I see no reason it should not work.
The only thing which can create some problems is that the object ID of roles must be unique. For example com.mycom.roles.roleA cannot exist in two separate folders in the PCD. For all other PCD objects it is the PCD ID which must be unique and this includes the folder prefix.
In my experience, the most natural solution for this in large portal environments is to have both a version and a production line.
The production line will be your standard sandbox, development, test/QA, production and the version line will consist of an development and test/QA systems.
Long running projects for enhancements to existing functionality will be done in the version line, before being transported to the production line when ready for GoLive. This makes even more sense when you have version lines for backend systems your portal are using which are modified at the same time.
Whilst the project is running, the production line can be used for changes to the current version, but it is important to note that all these changes have to be migrated into the version line in order to make sure they are not overwritten.
Of course, a version line brings extra cost related to synchronization and similar, so it is not always it makes sense.

How do i make wls 9.2 stop shutting itself down within eclipse 3.2.2?

after starting weblogic server 9.2 mp1 from within eclipse
sdk 3.2.2 build M20070212-1330 for solaris gtk, something

steps to reproduce:

the servers view eventually indicates the server has transitioned to the
"Stopped" state. the problem is, i never commanded neither eclipse or wls to
shutdown the wls server.
since the wls server can be successfully started outside of eclipse from the
shell, and since - once it is successfully started outside of eclipse - wls
doesn't automatically shutdown as soon as it starts; i suspect there is
something in eclipse|wtp that is triggering the automatic
shutdown. but of course, i could be wrong. maybe something
in wls itself is at fault.
i encountered this exact same bug in wls 9.0 with eclipse 3.2.2/wtp 1.5.3 on
solaris 9 sparc (which is what prompted me to upgrade to wls 9.2 on solaris 9
sparc; see [url https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=169197]eclipse bug #169197); and i encounter this exact same bug with wls 9.2 with
eclipse 3.2.2/wtp 1.5.3 in mac os x 10.4.9! there is a
slight difference in what happens in solaris vs what happens on the mac. on the mac, the exception appears to
be thrown at a different point (when a wldeploy.xml script
is executed; not at the point of "Initializing WebLogic
Scripting Tool (WLST)" like in the solaris installation):

TS1884 What if the Safe Boot progress bar stops (around the 25%-30% mark)? Any other alternatives I have to get my MAcBook Pro to boot without running into an error?

after starting my MacBook Pro I was faced with a grey screen stating that "an error has occurred, you need to restart your computer". I did that multiple times but the same message appeared each time. So I started the Safe Boot. Now the progress bar is stuck at the 25-30% progress mark since 30 min. Any advise on what to do from here?

I doubt that shutting it off will do any harm but don't do it too often.

How do you deal with API calls that do not exist in some versions of OS X

For example, I have been writing this app to manage the ipfw (Darwin's side of it). I have been confused about a lot of things because the command could do more then the API calls.
As it turns out, there is another firewall API ip_fw2 which does all this stuff I have been trying to figure out.
The problem is that OS X 10.3 does not have ip_fw2. I could check the versions of the OS and do some if (OSX > 10.3) then do ip_fw2 else ip_fw.
The question is, the code for ip_fw2 is in my binary and even if I never call it, will the loader have a problem on 10.3? I know in some cases on windows having an API call in your code that is not even run, will prevent the exe from even loading. There is this lazy linking thing I think you can do to work around that. Can you do that on OS X and what compiler options do I need?

This always happens when I do a render using Adobe Media Encoder CS6.
I was annoyed because I was 100% cpu.
is there a solution?

In this case, you would see many BOMs, High quantity of POs, Supplier invoices etc. This is in addition to the normal needs for Quality inspection forms, WIP movement and valuation. It's intended to be utilise all the modules, ordering, inventory, quality, purchasing, MRP, sales order, invoicing, payments, AR/AP, HR, CRM.

SAP was built around the manufacturing functionality. I have been implementing SAP into Manufacturing companies for the past 17 years and the size (Big or small) and complexity (simple or complex) has never been an issue.
In fact, I would say that the companies that benefit the most from SAP are manufacturing companies that have lots of BOMs, lots of POs etc.
there couldn't be a better fit of functionality.

I don't have good news. You will need to repartition and reformat the hard drive in order to determine if the drive is still OK or if it needs to be replaced. If your computer is a 2011 model or later do the following:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
If your computer is pre-2011 model, then locate the original installer discs that came with the computer. Then do this:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
     1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
         with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
         After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
         a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
     2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
         button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
         After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
         size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
         partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
         and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
         (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
     3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
         with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
     4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
         Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
         username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
         Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
         install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
         Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. You can now download a version of OS X from which to upgrade from your Purchases page in the App Store.

How do you backup with 2 users

Alright, I've been using Time Machine at work, it's been easy with 1 user.
Now at home I have my user account and my wife has her user account, both are admin.
How do I set it up for backing up.
How do you set it up so that it doesn't backup everything twice over like apps and documents we share?
Is there a way to Backup my account and then have only what is different on my wife's account be backed up?
Does Time Machine know how to do that on its own?
Any info or help would be great.

Yes, that's what it does. Time Machine is a system-wide app, not a user-level app.
It backs-up your entire system (OSX, apps, configuration, plus all users, preferences, and data) at once. You do not need to set it up (or run it) separately for each user.

Hyperlinks in cells, how do you deal with it?

I've got the hyperlinks palette open (Windows menu / Interactive / Hyperlinks)
Selecting a cell (or a table), that I would like to be clickable in a PDF, disables the hyperlinks address text field:
Obviously hyperlinks from cells are not supported.
How do you deal with it? Do you put empty textboxed on top of each cell that should be clickable?

@Andreas – to choose buttons over text based hyperlinks would mean you can define the area that is responsive like you want (the size is the size of the button) and you could design different button states in different ways (color, images, what not…).
For the scripter in you: Hyperlink objects have no geometric bounds, Button objects have…
Just an idea:
Imagine a script that is scanning all cells of a selected table and if there are hyperlinks detected uses position, width and height of that cell to generate a button just on top of the cell (it could be well on a different layer above) using the information the hyperlink provides. Every time the table is changed by the user and the script is fired again, the old buttons are removed and new buttons will be built…
If there are more hyperlinks than one in a specific cell, the buttons will be built around the area the hyperlinked text will occupy…

I was using wifi. It shows as a purchase on iTunes but it does not show up on iTunes for download. I keep getting the download error with our a number attached on the iPad. Very frustrating. Apple has been of no help at all.
