TS3992 What happens if I press "Cancel Backup" on my iphone 5 in the middle of an initial backup as I didnt realise that a first time backup would take so long, according to my phone about 30 hours ?
Hi need help! Purchased iphone5 and I have recieved a message saying that I have to back-up the phone as it has "never been" backed up. I proceeded to "back up now" to icloud and the phone went into back-up mode as it should via my wi-fi connection. However I am now recieving a message saying that the back-up has "about 32 hours remaining" and as I didn't realise that a back-up would take this long I was wondering what will now happen if I press the "Cancel Backup" button? Will I lose any information from my phone i.e. contacts, calendars etc all the important stuff ? Or will the back-up just cancel without actually backing up any info at all and that I will then have to try again at a later date or back-up through itunes? Heeeeeelp please !!!!

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

I store any file that I save onto my external drives so that I don't fill up my main hard drive.....( I label each external hard drive by year + alpha, such as 14a, 14b etc.) Is that a problem? Any suggestions?
I know iMovie works from the main iMac HD and therefore needs to find the file that I want in the external drive, such as when I "import" a file from an external such as 14a into iMovie that has been previously downloaded onto the external 14a (I download all SD cards & tapes to externals)......and it sounds like you're saying that is causing iMovie problems because the file is not so easily accessible for iMovie?
I assume that iMovie processes the file that I have "imported" into an "iMovie Event" on my iMac HD. I label that version as say "NLGE 3000E" for my 3000th movie, Event version, "events" that is always rough.
After I have imported media as an event and have labeled an event, "NLGE 3000E," then I go to "new movie" that I assume is a "project".....and I label that version "NLGE 3000P1"...."P" for "project" and "1" for the first edition....also to help me keep track of where my movies go. I focus on "Projects" then when editing ...and watch which edition I am editing and which edition appears where.
I learned that I need to "share" all movies from "Projects" to save......and store my final versions on my external drive, 14a (eg) so that I am sure that I have a retrievable copy. I try to share to YouTube from iMovie and succeeded 1/10 tries.
Evidently a movie is not saved unless it is in "theater"?

I have the trial version- love it. I want to buy the real version. But I've been making a video on the trial version. What happens to my video I'm making once I download the real version. I cannot lose it.Yes! As long as you don't delete your project files/library, you'll be fine. When you install the full version, it might create a new library, go to your movies folder or wherever your current library is and just double click it to open it.

I disconnected my iPhone in the middle of an iTunes update. Now it wont run properly what do I do? I was working online and I recieved a pop up from iTunes stating that there was an harwared update for my iPhone. I had it plugged up for a while , long enoung for me to watch a tv show have dinner and come back. I thought the update was complete and came back to the computer and unplugged it. The next morning I saw a picture of aUSB cord and the iTunes icon. I have no use of my phone and cannot get access to emails, internet contacts..nothing . Help !
Well it should NEVER be unplugged when doing something.
It actually had not installed the software at that stage, it had been copied over to the iPhone, it was being checked and then it would be installed.
You need to connect your iPhone to the computer at home and hope that you can install the software again and then restore your backup.
If you install iTunes at work you may be able to Restore the software but you will most likely lose the content on your iPhone as you do not have a backup to restore on that computer, or all your media / apps. -

First Time Backup Using Ver. 7
After inserting my 3rd blank DVD during backup, the msg "tfswctrl.exe - wrong volume" (Please insert vol. Backup 2006-08-17 into drive E) appeared. The itunes screen indicates that music/data is still being written to the DVD. Am I safe to assume that itunes is in fact backing up? I responded to the msg with "continue".
Your post is confusing me a bit. You say you were backing up, but a backup is making a second copy of files in case you lose the first copy. Why did you then move the media folder to the trash? Drag it back to your iTunes folder.
Which tutorial did you follow? A link would help.
To properly back up iTunes the first time you would quite iTunes, copy (drag) the whole iTunes folder in your Home > Music to the external drive, disconnect the drive, then start iTunes as normal for continued use.
Perhaps you were trying to move your library to the external drive but if that's the case you need to say you want to move it, not back up. -

Actually, I think that to a certain extent, iiCloud does support video storage - for backup purposes anyway. Maybe I am splitting hairs here or it's simply semantics ... Copied from Apple's iCloud backup and restore overview....

So if the video was in the backup - and you restored the iPad from that backup, then the video would be retrievable .... But only by restoring the iPad from a backup that contains the video. -
When I switch on my new iPad it asks me to move the slider to begin set-up. A list of languages appears and I tick English then NEXT. Another list of languages appears and the only thing to do is press the home button or BACK. I press BACK and it returns to the first list. I press the home button and a message appears saying that SET-UP was not completed do you wish to retry or continue. I press CONTINUE and nothing happens I press RETRY and it goes back to the message. What am I doing wrong or do I need to connect to I-Tunes to set-up ?
Try to connect to iTunes during the setup.

Have you tried a hard reset yet to see if that does any good? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear. Try this more than once if necessary.
Otherwise, try connecting it to your iTunes library in Recovery Mode and restoring it. See this article for instructions on getting your iPod into Recovery mode.
