TT0885: Invalid T-tree index
After running for several days, our TimesTen 6.0.4 returns errors: TT0885: Invalid T-tree index
What is wrong? How can we fix this?
The error was first encountered when monitoring a table size:
/opt/TimesTen/myapp/bin/ttSize -tbl mydb.users -connstr "dsn=myDB;uid=***;pwd=***"
Rows = 1787180
Table in-line row bytes = 178192657

Can't get info on index SECOND_INDX.MYDB: TT0885: Invalid T-tree index -- file "index.c", lineno 8243, procedure "sb_ixInfo ()"
T-tree index MYDB.UID_INDX adds 36313369 bytes

Hi,
As I suspected. Using ttSize in this manner is not that useful since it does not measure./report on a tables actual space utilisation but rather it computes an 'estimated' utilisation based on the schema, indexes and rowcount. The calculations it use have to make certain assumptions about various things so the values returned may in some cases differ significantly from 'reality'. There is currently no exact way to determine the actual memory occupied by a specific table or index. However, there are accurate figures available about overall memory utiliation in the datastore. The SYS.MONITOR table includes fields such as PERM_ALLOCATED_SIZE, PERM_IN_USE_SIZE and PERM_IN_USE_HIGH_WATER plus equivalent fields for the TEMP region. Also, there is a useful built in procedure called ttBlockInfo.
I would strongly recommend that any routine space monitoring scheme be based on these rather than ttSize...

So I used techtool 4 to try to improve my performance. There weren't any problems before, but I figured "Hey, I might as well." Suddenly both drives disappeared and techtool 4 told me they aren't there. I tried Disk Utility, but it gave me the error message "Invalid B-tree node size." I have no idea what that means and I have some extremely valuable information on that drive that I haven't backed up yet. I don't have $100 to throw away on Disk Warrior either. Is there any other solution that I can do to fix this problem that techtool 4 seemed to have caused.
You analyzed it with Disk Utility but it won't mount? Did you try to mount it with Disk Utility?
Try using an application such as [Data Rescue II|http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php] or [FileSalvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1]. Both have free trial versions that let you see if the software will help before you decide to buy. You will also need a second hard drive equal to or larger in size than your first drive.
There is also this free tool which supposedly runs on OSX and does recovery of popular media and Office files. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download
I have not seen any reports from anybody who has actually used this tool and the documentation is not terribly clear so it really is an unknown as far as I am concerned. -
Is my hard drive dead? Invalid B-Tree Node Size
When I turn on my powerbook it goes to the grey screen with the apple in the middle comes up and then it goes to loading Mac OS X which I am trying to do but when it comes to Select a Destination my hard drive is not listed. I click on utilities and go to utilities and disk utility. My hard drive is listed on the left side so i click it. I then click verify disk and it sais Invalid B-Tree Node Size and Volume needs repair. Then I click repair but the same thing comes up. What can I do? PS-I did a search but none of the info I came up with helped me at all.
they are about $100 and available from most Apple dealers:
http://alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html
http://www.micromat.com/
if there are no important files on the drive, erasing the drive and reinstalling OS could possibly fix it unless it's caused by failing drive hardware.
if erase/install does not work properly, could be bad drive.
"B-Tree" message could simply be caused by messed up files and there is nothing wrong with the drive itself. -
Swapped out the monitor on my Mac mini tonight and it wouldn't start back up. Managed to boot off the install disk and run disk utility, which gave the invalid b tree node error. Wasn't able to repair the disk, suggested a reformat. Is this worth my time? Or is the disk toasted? I got it in 2010, it's out of warranty and has already had the hard drive replaced once. Thanks!
-lauraIf you want to save the data from the drive, Phoenix might be able to copy (clone) it off on another volume. You can check it out at:
http://scsc-online.com/Phoenix.html
Phoenix does a file copying cloning, not block copy cloning, so a new index is generated on the drive when the copy is being made. If none of the files got lost, meaning just the index is screwed up, I would think this would work.
Regarding the hard drive an index problem isn't a hard drive problem. That hard drive may be in perfect working order, especially since it's fairly new. -
Hi All,
Could some one please let me know how Bitmap indexes are useful compared to B-Tree indexes on low-cardinality columns ?.
Thanks,
-Kumar.>>
As Re: why oracle db 9i optimizer can't choose to use the bitmap index? there are a number of issues with bitmap indexes. Your best bet is to read these three articles by Jonathan Lewis.
It does pay us to understand how the optimizer works with bitmap indexes. I posted some Re: Cost-based optimizer behavior to show how indexes on even very low valued columns can be useful in certain circumstances.

Please let me know what I can do to get my Numbers (iWork 09) working properly again.
Here is what is going on:
Numbers in iWork 09 not working can't access Blank, Checklist and many other files within Numbers. I can open the program but only a few files are available. When I click on the file (which also has no icon just the name of the file) this warning appears:
The document "Blank.nmbtemplate" is invalid. The index.xml file is missing.
I recently had to get a new hard drive installed and had the system upgraded and more memory put in by a Mac certified specialist recommended to me from the Apple store in Northbrook because this was the 3rd time my drive went bad but this time it was to old (I got the IMAC- in 2007) and the Apple store could no longer work on it this time so they recommended a few places that had certified Mac specialists. Since then Numbers is not working right.
I'm sure it's something simple to fix, but I've tried re installing it and that didn't work. Appreciate any help.
Thanks
AppMareThere is one way its getting fixed. Once I update my Adobe Illustrator CC to Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 it is further allowing me to go into the system folder and allocate the font to the file so that it can replace it. My only concern now is that our MAC partners who will receive these files back from us have Adobe CS6. We will down save it to CS6 but I hope they won't experience any font issues because of us using CC 2014? Any light you can shed on this?

Error in updating R-tree index
Hi,
I want to update a geometry column with a R-tree index on it with a statement like:
update xxx set xxx.geometry = (select yyy.geometry...
All geometries in the updated table are NULL before. I get the following error:
ORA-29877: failed in the execution of the ODCIINDEXUPDATE routine
ORA-13237: internal error during R-tree concurrent updates: [empty-node
encountered; rebuild index]
ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.SDO_INDEX_METHOD", line 7
ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.SDO_IDX", line 86
ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.SDO_INDEX_METHOD", line 83
ORA-06512: at line 1
What's wrong?
JoergJoerg,
This is a known bug in R-tree indexing.
When you create an R-tree index
on a table with no geometries, it gives
this error.
This is fixed in 8.1.7.
To get around this problem, make sure
that atleast one geometry is non-null
when you create the index.
For a performance reason, it is not
recommended that you create
index on spatial table with NULL
geometries.
Updates on such indexed table will
be very expensive compared to
creating the index on a fully
populated table.

How to get the tree index of a child node
Hi, I am loading a tree object from an XML source file (via
an XMLListCollection)
I can find the children on the currently selected node, like:
var children:XMLList =
XMLList(myTree.selectedItem).children();
for(var i:Number=0; i < children.length(); i++) {
trace("Child Found: " + children
.@caption);
But how can I determine the tree index for each of the
children? I would like to be able to grab and save the tree index
for each child, so that I can later just to do
"myTree.selectedIndex = (saved child index) (based on some form
action the user performs). I can't find any method of determining
what the tree index for a child is, other than walking down the
tree from the parent node and counting the number of nodes till I
hit each child. Is there a simple method?Tree is hierarchical, index is linear. I have never seen
anyone successfully use selectedIndex with Tree.
You best bet is to put an id on each node and use e4x
expression to find that node when you want.

Oracle Spatial 8.1.7 r-tree indexes
I don't think this problem is specific to r-tree indexes vs. quad-tree.
Even though I specify a tablespace other than the SYSTEM tablespace in Oracle Spatial Index Advisor when creating r-tree indexes, the index is still created in the SYSTEM tablespace. I don't want my spatial indexes in the SYSTEM tablespace!
select tablespace_name from user_indexes where index_name = 'GPS_IDX';
TABLESPACE_NAME
SYSTEM
Here is the sql statement that Spatial Index Advisor constructed:
create index gis.gps_idx on gis.gps (geometry) indextype is mdsys.spatial_index parameters ('sdo_indx_dims=2');
I was not able to issue this sql from worksheet with the tablespace option added. Is there a way to do that?
In Spatial Index Advisor, if I don't select the geometry column, then the sql is constructed with the tablespace option added, but when I select the geometry column, it removes it from the sql.
Can anybody shed some light on how to do this?
thanks
DaveSpatial creates an index entry in the system tablespace but realy creates the spatial index in the tablespace you gave it. To verify it execute the select:
select table_name,tablespace_name
from user_tables
where table_name like 'spatial_table%';
It will return your table_name plus the spatial index table created for it.
The table_name will look something like this:
spatial_table_SX_FL10$.
spatial_tables beeing your spatial table.
You can query the same for the indexes built on that previous table.
select index_name,tablespace_name
from user_indexes
where table_name = 'SPATIAL_TABLE_SX_FL10$';
The two index names would look like:
spatial_table_sx_fl10$B1
spatial_table_sx_fl10$B2
They should be created in the tablespace mentionned in your tablespace clause when creating the spatial index.
Hope this helps -
Does an irrepariable "Invalid B-tree node" = unusable HD?
Hello,
I've decided my external LaCie drive has officially "died," but I want to know if it's truly unuseable or if I can just reformat it and start over (with it) again.
The Drive: a LaCie 300GB with one 40GB scratch partition and one 260GB backup partition.
What happened: After a about a week of erratic/slow disk access to the backup partiton (I'd shrugged it off as a full and fragmented drive), it finally just screeched to a snail's pace - so I could read/write to it, but, for example, copying 5MB file to/from it took about 3mins. I quickly backed up as much as I could off of it to another drive (100GB took 14hrs) and just as it finished copying the last file, it disappeared from my sidebar (though the scratch partition was still visible). I Disk Utility and could see it was unmounted and it's "name" had been reset to "disk5s3". Running the First Aid repair resulted in a quick "Invalid B-tree node size" ... "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit".
Flash forward three days later: After unsuccessfully running Disk Warrior and Data Rescue for 20hrs (progress estimated it would take 400hrs to complete scan) - I gave up.
Sorry for the long setup, but my question is: can I just "zero" the drive and use it again, or is it "damaged" physically and suitable for a paperweight only. If it's usuable after reformatting, is there a way to test the hardware of the drive to assure it's stable?
Thanks for your time!can I just "zero" the drive and use it again, or is it "damaged" physically and suitable for a paperweight only
Like Dwight I doubt the drive is physically damaged but simply has a damaged catalogue b-tree. The only way you're going to find out though it to erase the drive and write zeros to it. Just be aware that everything on the drive will be lost (though I gather you know that already) if you do this. -
Migrate B-Tree Indexes of XML O-R Table to XMLIndex on Binary XML Table
We need slight help on how to migrate existing B-TREE Indexes from XML Obj-Rel Tables to XMLIndex on new XML Binary Tables
We use searches on Nested Collection Elements (defined unbounded in XSD)

We have 6 more Normal Indexes on this Table, some created on Nested Elements as shown below:

create index TNMAB_AGREEMENT_XML_IDX4 on TNMAB_AGREEMENT_XML (AGREEMENT_XML.XMLDATA."CREATION_DATE")
tablespace TNMAB_XMLDB_ME_INDX;

create index TNMAB_AGREEMENT_XML_NT_IDX2 on SHIPPING_PARTIES_NT NT(NT.CUSTOMER_HOLDER.SAP_ID, NT.NESTED_TABLE_ID)
tablespace TNMAB_XMLDB_ME_INDX;
Could you please let us know how we should migrate above Indexes to XMLIndex format.
Specifically, not sure how the last 2 Indexes on Nested Tables is to be defined.
Any help or resources pointing to this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the help,

I have been having problems since updating to the latest version of Numbers.
When I try to open files I am getting an error.
"The document “'13 Tax Prep .numbers” is invalid.
The index.xml file is missing."
Anyone else getting this message? Anyone know how to fix the issue?Jeff Shenk wrote:
Numbers 3.1 can recognize both the new files without the index.xml file and the old ones with it, which it imports to the new format.
Agreed on that part. But take it a step further. If Numbers 3.1 is asked to open an old document that is still in the old Numbers 2 format that relies on an index.xml file but Numbers 3.1 can't find the index.xml file (perhaps the document is corrupted) then how can Numbers 3.1 open the document and interpret it in order to convert it to the new format? My guess is that this a possible trigger for the 'index.xml missing' error message.
Interesting link here on the new document format.

I have been working on the same numbers file for the past few weeks. The last time I opened it was 1 week ago. Today when I tried to open it I am unable and getting a message that the file is invalid and the index.xml file is missing.
Hi Tracie,
I upgraded to Maverick OS X 10.9.5, numbers spreadsheet is saved. Upon re-opening, it appears to be frozen, a warning "file is invalid as index.xml file is missing". I checked, and the file is not "locked". This appears to occur only with using the new numbers app. When I open previous spreadsheets from old iWorks, no such problem occurs.
How did you resolve your problem?
Would appreciate any help here.
Thanks,

Invalid B-tree node and disk stuck
Last night my 2 year old iMac froze up. When I re-started I received the flashing question-mark folder. I ended up inserting my OS X install disk and attempting to run the Disk Utility. I tried to repair the disk, but got the "Invalid B-tree node size" error with "The volume needs to be repaired."
I have tried a lot of things and will probably end up buying Disk Warrior and hoping that fixes it. BUT, I have another problem. I can't eject the OS X install disk. The option to eject is greyed out on the Disk Utility, the eject key doesn't work, and I can't find any way to unload the disk. Help would be appreciated.If you have an external hard drive it would be easier to clone your system to the external then boot to the external and run Disk Warrior from there. However if your system won't boot in the first place that won't work. You could pick up a copy of Disk Warrior from the Apple store.
