Tuning 11i E-Business Application on RAC

Hi all,
I’m converting our 11i E-business database to RAC and after setup a test environment (cloned from Production and converted to RAC) and done some load testing (Mercury Load Runner) I noticed poor performance (user response time) of the Application if compared to Production which consists only a db and a apps tier with lower spec then these test servers (4 T2 Blades – 2 for DB and 2 for Apps).
I’ve followed Oracle recommendations on Metalink Note 216205.1 but didn’t make much difference. At this stage I’m thinking it might be something on the Apps configuration but I’m trying to ensure database is well configured.
So I’m asking if you have any doc or tip specific to tuning 11i E-Business Application on RAC.
Btw, I’m using ASM for the database and Sun Cluster for Apps shared file system and it’s a 2 nodes RAC and 2 nodes for Apps – 1 node for Forms, Apache and Mwa and another node with Concurrent Manager and Reports
I have a TAR open with Oracle but looking for answers from real gurus 
Thanks
Eduardo.

The strange thing about the Niagara processor is it gets fantastic TPCC benchmark results, but can barely handle any real E-Business Suite load. We were getting frequent kernel exhaustion issues on this processor and Sun had us set filesystemio_options=setall, which seemed to help a little. It appears from the following note that it could be set with ASM.
Asynchronous I/O Support on OCFS/OCFS2 and Related Settings: filesystemio_options, disk_asynch_io
http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=432854.1
Apart from that, there are no RAC specific APPS tuning tips beyond the normal tuning methodologies (AWR, statspack, sqlarea etc).
The T2000 and T2 chips are really optimized for lightweight applications server (Apache) type workloads. Attempting to get heavy throughput E-Business Suite type processing load out of that processor is like trying to dig a fence post with a plastic spoon. It may work, but it depends on how soft the dirt (load) is...

  • Has anybody used JDev 10g to write an extension to 11i e-business suite?

We are looking to develop an application that can be called from within the menu structure of the 11i e-business suite and would like to use JDeveloper 10g.
I have read that the OA Extension for JDev 9 can be used for this, but I've also read that this OA extension has been replaced by ADF in 10g. Can we use ADF to obtain values such as user_id, responsibility_id, org_id from 11i?
Failing that, seeing as this is the only information from 11i that we will need in the new application, can we just pass these values in as parameters when initially calling the application?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as we cannot find ANY documentation detailing how to link ADF into 11i.

Just to clarify OAF is not ADF.
e-Business is based on OAF right now, and the fusion generation of Applications will be based on ADF.
While OAF uses UIX and BC4J (an early version of ADF BC) it is not the same as ADF.
If you want to use OAF you better ask the question on the OAF forum on OTN.
for ADF development you should use JDeveloper 10.1.3. ADF first appeared in JDeveloper 9.0.5 but things had evolved a lot since then.

Thanks to previous responder for tip regarding JDK/JRE anchor strings. I'm not sure if that is a problem. After letting the install process (java.exe) run for over an hour, I finally got past the InstantiateFile step. It looks like the process just takes a long time with no visible progress sometimes. After 5-6 hrs, it looked like the install succeeded (for the most part). There were still some errors in the error logs related to the Concurrent Manager (TNS-12541: TNS:no listener) I believe. If anyone has insight on what this error msg means, I would greatly appreciate a reply.
The other problem I am tackling right now is how to explicitly set the Forms processing mode to HTTP rather than the default socket mode. According to the 11i docs (and Forms Developer 6i docs), you should only have to set "connectMode=HTTP" in the config file, appsweb.cfg, to make this happen. However, when I try bringing up a client form, the form hangs. So, obviously, something is amiss. A related question is whether one can run Forms in only HTTP mode and not HTTPS (and thus avoid having to install SSL). I would greatly appreciate any insight from fellow users.

An internationally recognized expert, Max is Technical Director and principal at International System Group, (ISG) Inc a leading consulting firm that specializes in design, development and integration of large-scale distributed applications using leading edge Middleware technologies. Max is coming to Business Technology Sumit 2010 (www.btsummit.com) to speak about all things SOA, on 12 November at the NIHANS Convention Center in Bangalore. At the summit, Max covers the following sessions:
    * Managing the SOA Evolution: once a company has completed initial SOA projects, the number of deployed services increases such that the key question no longer is how to build services, but rather how to efficiently govern the development and operation of services on an enterprise scale. The focus of SOA shifts to reusability, securing how a growing number of clients access the services, and assuring that Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met, to name just a few issues. At this point companies run the danger that a "free for all" environment proliferates, and the benefits of SOA cannot be realized. The key is to introduce SOA governance before services spin out of control. Managing the evolution of SOA into the cloud with the correct governance is the next challenge. This keynote will address: typical categories of SOA projects, how SOA Maturity Models and governance relate, and how SOA governance needs to be extended when we move applications into the cloud
    * A ROI Calculator for SOA: let the Numbers Do the Talking: there are many pro and very few con arguments from an engineering perspective that make us believe that SOA is a superior approach for most application development and integration projects. However, nowadays we typically won't get away with brilliant technical arguments to justify the transition to SOA. In most cases we will have to convince the CFO that there is a positive bottom line result. This presentation outlines a ROI model for application development based on service reusability in a SOA. It describes how the cost effect of reuse can be calculated during the development and the maintenance cycle of a portfolio of service oriented business applications. The model is based on metrics that have been widely accepted throughout the IT industry. The model will then be illustrated by a project where multiple business applications have been developed within a SOA that employs a foundation of reusable services. This presentation will show an overview of a project that is used as an example, a popular ROI model that is the basis for the ROI calculation, and the application of the model to determine concrete monetary savings.
    * Defining a SOA Roadmap Based on SOA Maturity Model: once a company has completed initial SOA projects, the number of deployed services increases and the key question no longer is how to build services, but rather how to efficiently manage the development and operation of services on an enterprise scale. What is needed is a concise roadmap that guides the evolution of SOA such that IT can deliver the right value at the right time to the business. This roadmap has to address multiple dimensions of IT: architecture, development processes, applications, information, etc. This presentation will outline a model against which the degree of service oriented maturity of an organization can be assessed, and a process (i.e. the roadmap) for assessing the current and desired degree of service maturity of an organization and for developing a plan for how to get to the target state. This presentation will show: what SOA Maturity Models exist today?, walkthrough of the levels and key elements of each level, developing a custom SOA Roadmap and project example for mapping a Maturity Model to a Roadmap.
    * Service Oriented Integration (SOI): doing Integration the Right Way: IT managers have been under increasing pressure to migrate a portfolio of independent “stovepipe” applications to an integrated set of business services that can be aligned with changing business requirements and support new business processes faster and with reduced cost. Today, corporations have to choose from a number of integration products (e.g. Enterprise Service Buses) that have quite different capabilities, never mind different architectures and standards. This seminar starts with a comparison of SOA and event based architectures and then outlines the key issues and guidelines that architects should consider when defining an integration architecture based on services. The key point of the seminar is a case study that illustrates how SOA concepts have been applied in a real project. It explains the key architectural and design decisions that produced an integration architecture and a set of services that were reused beyond one particular project. This presentation will show: drivers for Service Oriented Integration (SOI), comparing SOA to Event-Driven Architecture (EDA), how to evolve from Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) to SOA/EDA to SOI, and applying SOI in a project example.

  • Lightroom Linked to Business Application

    July 15, 2011
    Hello:
I'm interested in a business application that links to Lightroom 2.7; the operating system is Windows XP.  The application would link Photoshop files to cost, sale price, customers, etc.  Hopefully, a thumbnail of the photo could be included with the file name.
At this time, I've used Excel and done some expansion into Access.  The set-up is very cumbersome and time consuming.  Can I link between Excel and the Lightroom database?
Help with this effort would be appreciated.
    Scott

    Dear Hal:
I thank you for your suggestion.
My original thought of your reply was that I begin programming.  Re-reading your reply revealed that this is not the case.  Also, programming would take me away from photography.
My intent is for my ledger and bills to include thumbnails of the photos, which are sold as greeting cards or prints.  It would be nice to have the photos entered automatically, instead of manually.
    I thank you.

  • Very Large Business Application (VLBA)

    CVLBA Research Center
The Center for Very Large Business Applications (CVLBA) is a joint research initiative of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and the Technische Universität München which was initiated by SAP in 2006. The decision by SAP AG to fund research with these two university partners stems from the cooperation experiences and the knowledge transfer that has taken place by jointly running the SAP University Alliances Project. Fifteen researchers in the CVLBA teams at Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and Technische Universität München focus their research on bridging the gap between ERP research and ERP development.
    Defining Very Large Business Applications
The first step in exploring issues of VLBA was to establish a common working definition to be used by all partners. According to the definition used a VLBA is essentially characterized u2013 in contrast to a single business application u2013 by its strategic importance for an organization, by its spatial, organizational, cultural or technical unrestrictedness and by its capability to be implemented by application systems or system landscapes.
The goal of the foundation of VLBA is a profound definition that conceives a VLBA as both, an application (instantiation level; VLBA in the narrower sense) and a research framework (meta level; VLBA in the broader sense). You can find more details in the text attached in this thread. We are looking forward to your feedback about this highly relevant topic, in particular regarding sustainability, legacy systems and cultural diversity!

Definition of Very Large Business Application
The first step in exploring issues of a Very Large Business Application (VLBA) was to establish a common working definition to be used by all partners. A VLBA deals with a business application, which has a strategic importance within a constituted organization. Significant features of a VLBA are:
    (1) A VLBA supports one or more processes, from which one at least is a business process. Consequently, a VLBA is directly successfully effective and the strategic dependency of the organization is given by an application of a VLBA, because changing or turning the system away is associated with big financial, organizational and personnel-related costs.
    (2) A VLBA does not have any spatial, organizational, cultural or technical limits.
    (3) VLBAs could be implemented through application systems as well as through system landscapes. It is significant that they support a (universal organizational) business process.
A possible far reaching ability of automation of internal processes should be achieved through the application of the most modern technologies. Supply Chain Management (SCM)- and Customer Relationship Management (CRM)-systems are instances for this kind of software, as far as they fulfill all defined requirements. VLBAs are similar to a Business Information System in the manner that they can support several Business Application Fields and in this case, they are based on several types of Business Application Systems.
VLBA as a Field of Research
Along with the first definition, the concept of u2018VLBAu2019 was classified and integrated into the already existing conceptual world of business informatics, using the UML. This allows distinguishing u2018VLBAu2019 from other related topics and clearly defines its scope in the business informaticsu2019 scientific world. In particular, a VLBA can be regarded as a special system landscape on the one hand and as a research area in the other hand. The present-day heterogeneous and grown system landscapes, just like they are usually discovered in the business practice, suffer from the symptom of spaghetti integration. Therefore, it seems to be practical to raise principles of the Software Engineering to the level of the system landscapes and to establish a design theory in the sense of System Landscape Engineering.

  • E-business Application cloning

    Hi,
I have some doubts regarding E-business application cloning. As per Oracle documents, we have to first prepare source system by executing adpreclone.pl script. I do understand, that this script captures the changes done in source system and create templates out of it. On target system, we execute adcfgclone.pl on dbtier and apps tier.
However I have seen a practice where sometimes refresh from production environment to dev environment is done. While doing refresh, following steps are performed:
1> source system's db tier is directly cloned using Rman duplicate command. Only dbtier is cloned not rdbms oracle home.
2> on dbtier, adcgfclone.pl is NOT EXECUTED. instead node_name column from FND_CONCURRENT_QUEUES is updated with web-tier name and concurrent manager server name ( APPS tier has shared APPL_TOP and one node is webtier node and other is APPS_tier node)
3> application tier binaries are copied (overwritten) to apps tier of dev system (context file for both nodes already backed up before overwrite)
4> adcfgclone appstier <backedup contextfile> is executed on webtier first then on concurrent manager node following is executed in order
adclonectx.pl addnode contextfile= <path to backed up context file> then backuped up contextfile copied to original location and
    adconfig.pl contextfile=<path of contextfile> is executed.
Then autoconfig is executed on all appstier nodes and system works all fine. In whole process, I am unable to understand following two steps,
1> how update to FND_CONCURRENT_QUEUES table works directly.
2> in Oracle home of rdbms, i checked, in appsutil folder, clone folder is missing, i.e no adcfgclone.pl.. why is this??
These steps are complete different from those mentioned in Oracle docs.. Kindly please explain the steps here at dbtier.. they are confusing.

I meant we do not execute adcfgclone.pl. only update this table with node names of web node and concurrent manager node. then execute cmclean.sql and then run autoconfig thats it. no more steps and our dbtier gets set.As mentioned above, run cmclean.sql, clean FND_NODES then run AutoConfig. You could also update it from the application (System Administrator responsibility > Concurrent > Manager > Define) screen or from the backend by updating the table (cmclean.sql script updates other columns in the same table).
On my rdbms Oracle_home folder appsutil folder is present. only clone folder in it is missing. that means adpreclone was not executed. I am not able to under stand how without preparing source system for cloning (without using adpreclone) directly cloning db with rman (using active clone) and just cloning apps tier we are able to get exact copy. when docs suggest we muct execute adcfgclone on dbtier (which we don't) and we also do not execute adpreclone on source systemRunning preclone on the source instance is a must. However, if you only need to refresh the database (you mentioned before you do not need to refresh the RDBMS ORACLE_HOME) then you can recreate the database manually or using RMAN. If you need to refresh RDBMS $ORACLE_HOME then you need to run preclone on the source RDBMS $ORACLE_HOME, copy the $ORACLE_HOME files and run adcfgclone.pl script on the target node.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Activate GOS business application for object PREL

    Hi all!
In the transaktion PA30 the functionality of the GOS is available. But the business application is standardly deactivated for the object "PREL". So the function "Store business document" (under menue point "Create...") is not active.
Is there a possibility to activeate this function? And how?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Best Regards
    Stefan

If you want to remove the Create Attachment option for all the GOS toolbar than you can go to table SGOSATTR and remove the entry with the name PCATTA_CREA. Caution: This will remove the option "Create Attachement" from all the GOS Toolbar i.e. Customer, Vendor, Sales order etc.
If you want to do it for specific GOS toolbar, than you have to modify the CHECK_STATUS method of the CL_GOS_SRV_ATTACHMENT_CREATE.
I would not suggest to change the standard SAP code for this.
    Alternativly, you can
    1. copy the class CL_GOS_SRV_ATTACHMENT_CREATE to Z class i.e. ZCL_GOS_SRV_CREATE
    2. Change the method CHECK_STATUS. Check if the Object 'BUS1065' than make it inactive.
Refer to the post: [Generic Object Services (GOS) Toolbar Part 2 : Handle added Service in the Toolbar |http://help-abap.blogspot.com/2008/11/generic-object-services-gos-toolbar.html]. Look for the implemenation of the CHECK_STATUS towards the end.

  • Oracle 11i E-Business Suite Installation on Windows fails

All you Oracle 11i gurus out there, please HELP as I am at my wit's end.
I am trying to install Oracle 11i E-Business Suite (downloaded from the edelivery Website) on Windows 2003 Server with dual PIII CPU, 1GB RAM, and 150GB+ disk space.
My Oracle 11i install on Windows has been failing during Step 1 of 5 following the process of unpacking the 114 zipfiles for the 9.2.0 database even though all the diagnostic steps passed.
It appears the install is failing on the following step:
    InstantiateFile -d d:\oracle\visdb\9.2.0\appsutil\driver\instconf.drv
I have MKS Toolkit installed on C:\MKS and VC++ installed on C:\MVS\VC98.
I have renamed make.exe to gnumake.exe in the C:\MKS\mksnt folder and copied the linker (link.exe) from C:\MVS\VC98\bin to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
The InstantiateFile step is executing some Java classes. I have also installed the JRE on C:\jre1.5.0_06, although it's doubtful this will impact the install scripts since the scripts are all hardcoded with the included JRE 1.4.2.
Why do Oracle DBAs and users deal with this crap? A software install should not be this difficult.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks to previous responder for tip regarding JDK/JRE anchor strings. I'm not sure if that is a problem. • Install Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Automated Storage Management (A

Do I have to install Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Automated Storage Management (ASM) for ETL
I have installed Oracle 10g Release 1 on WIndows 2000 with datawarehousing option.
    Is it ok
Or do I need to install Oracle database again.
    Please help

    Greg,
From what you describe you did exactly the right thing. The runtime platform service will by default run on DWH01, but you can shut it down on that node and have it run on DWH02 (in case you wanted to bring down DWH01 but still run Warehouse Builder processes). Note that we strongly recommend using the net service name in the location registration in the deployment manager (so that you automatically take advantage of the client-side load balancing feature of RAC (as well as the server-side load balancing)).
    Thanks,
    Mark.

  • TabStrip E-Commerce Business-to-Business Application

    Hi People,
I'm configuring the E-Commerce Business-to-Business Application, and I'm wondering to add a new Tab, on that screen after select the shop.
The standard solution shows 2 tabs ("Transactions" and "Products"), but the old one (CRM 3.0) was used to show 3 tabs.
I saw that this Tabs are rendered by a TabStip controller, but I could not find where it is populated.
Anyone knows a standard solutions for this?

    HI
Changing the frame structure  as you have mentioned will enable you to hide the history page only at the time of login.
There are many others places where the frame size is modified.
just search for fourthFS in the workspace and change the size accordingly.
    <frameset cols="*,0,0" id="fourthFS" border="0" frameborder="0" framespacing="0">
Changing the frame size will help you to hide the history page, but in background the calls to get the history details are still happening. We can avoid this to improve performance.
    Comment out the following call.
    getHistoryFrame().location.href = '<isa:webappsURL name="/b2b/history/updatehistory.do"/>' ;
search for updatehistory.do  and comment the call.
    Regards
    Antony
