Turion ML-28 vs Mobile Sempron 2800+

Would I see a performance increase with the purchase of a turion ml-28 over the mobile sempron 2800+? They both run at 1.6ghz.

Can´t tell about the Turion / Sempron, but I´ve had some good experience and performance with my P-M 730.
However, here´s some general reading about the Turions running as Desktop cpu.

  • KT6V + sempron 2800 does not boot when BIOS saved

    Hi,
I have just bought a new sempron 2800 to be use on a KT6V LSR. I plugget in my KT6V but was not recognised well (but all was working ok with windows). To be recognised, I have flashed with the last bios of MSI my motherboard... and now I have the following problem:
    - I clear CMOS, then boot. It comes ok (processor detected and set a 1200Mhz)
    - Then CMOS has a bad checksum: I enter setup, then load default, save.
    - I reboot: the computer does not boot up.
If I re-clear CMOS I can re-enter setup and modify frequencies or other options. But when I save my modifications, then the computer does not reboot anymore (I have to re-clear cmos again)...
I tried to apply the configuation I found in this thread:
    http://forums.amd.com/lofiversion/index.php/t69536.html
It says that SDRAM must be at 333, FSB at 166 and multiplicator at 12. When applying this settings, it does not boot (the leds indicate that the chipset initialisation (the first step) does not pass).
If I just load biios default, the leds indicates that it fails when checking the memory (second step of boot). I suspect that it's a problem of memory (but my memory was working well before !): it's 2x512 of DDR 400.
Any suggestion is appreciated :D . I spent several hours trying to configure the bios but it does not boot..
(I'll also try to find help on AMD forums...)
(Some extra info: my PSU is 26A for 12V, so it seems that it's not due to the PSU (as I read in the FAQ of this forum).
    Thanks,
    Ptitmain.

  • Sempron 2800 bios K8N-NEO

    Hi all,
I have resurrected a K8-N Neo Platinum SKT 754 (MS-7030 Ver1) but I cannot get it to post when using a new Sempron 64 Rev E6. The bios just bleeps 2 second tones and the monitor goes into standby. A borrowed Athlon 64 3200 mobile works fine. The bios is V2.1, but the MSI CPU support for this model shows the rev E6 as bios V2.2 on ? Is this an error as I cannot find anything other than v2.1 ??
    Anyone help please

have you tried to Clear CMOS and to use one memory stick only on DIMM slot close to CPU socket?
Yes, done both suggestions, I'll try reflashing the Bios again as kakarocht suggests. It did work with another earlier revision Sempron 2800, but I don't have that anymore.

  • K8N Neo-FSR v2.0 + Sempron 2800+ E6 = No Go?

    Hello!
Wanted to assemble a rig for playing around with Ubuntu 64-Bit, so I headed out and obtained ...
    ... a MSI K8N Neo-FSR v2.0 (7030-20C, shipped with BIOS 5.10)
    ... a AMD Sempron 2800+ (Palomino, Step E6)
Upon power-on it refuses to POST ---> 1 continous beep
If I recall the AWARD beep-codes correctly this means that the CPU failed to initialize.
    Troubleshooting steps:
    - Stripped down to board + CPU + 1x RAM + GFX -> No Go (1 beep)
    - Stripped down to board + CPU + 1x RAM -> No Go (1 beep)
    - Stripped down to board + CPU -> No Go (1 beep)
Meanwhile I tested the CPU and RAM in in another S754 board a friend borrowed me ... both work fine.
So this leads me to the question:
Does anyone has a clue what might be wrong here? I don't have greater experiences with nForce boards so my knowledge about them is very limited.
    Thanks for helpful suggestions.

This is the latest bios version of the 5X bios series (and should be a safe one since yours is currently running with 510).
    http://download.msi.com.tw/support/bos_exe/mbd_bios/7030v54.zip
Don't know if it will add support for your cpu though.
Well ... as the changelog of the BIOS isn't exactly informative we would only know if I could get the board to POST so that I would be able to flash.
This however isn't a valid option as the board keeps on beeping upon power-on.
    Quote from: syar2003 on 27-August-06, 20:29:14
Theese 7030 boards have become unbelievable hard to track as there are so many versions released now.
    ref:  http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=688
This page also lists another bios series to use 1X and 9X series
In addition it lists 2800 E6 Palermo as NONE (which means not verified/under testing)
Direct link to many 7030 boards bioses are also gone .
You're right --- I did some more investigation yesterday and became award of the "too many 7030's" issue. The one I'm referring to is actually the one you linked at (K8N Neo-FSR V2.0).
As the sticker on the flash reads v5.1 I assume the board is PCB rev. 1 ... as the 9.x BIOS seems to be for PCB v3.0 only.
Took a look through the CPU Support ... and ... WTH?
Only Turion CPUs and one A64 (step E6) is listed as compatible?
Guess we found the showstopper ... either the board or BIOS seems to dislike the E6 Sempron then. Hmm ... guess I either return the CPU or the board. It seems as getting a Turion would be the better choice as the shops in my area don't have anymore AGP S754 boards (and the same goes S939 boards). I only need a rig to play with server setup-scenarios of Ubuntu 64-Bit and no powerhorse for gaming or such.
Thanks for pointing me to the CPU support list ... I would have never dared to imagine that a board will only run with a limited set of AMD CPUs ...

  • Can't load drivers for KT4A-V with Sempron 2800

    I have a kt4a-v board with Sempron 2800 chip
256mb geforce FX5500-TD256 TV DVI AGP card
    also 512 Mb PC2700 DDR
Loading windows 98SE works fine until I try to load the drivers that come with the motherboard.
Windows will then not load in anything other than safe mode.

    Hello,
Memory module, 1 of them could be faulty but I know windows 98se does not like a lot of memory.
This website says it is made worse with large memory video cards.
    http://www.dewassoc.com/support/win98/win9x_512memory.htm
Try this then out the other stick in.
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=304943
If you swap the sticks around what happens?
Here is a program that can test the memory.
    http://www.memtest.org/download/1.51/memtest86+-1.51.floppy.zip
Download, extract it to a folder, run the install.bat and it will make a memtest bootdisk.

  • KT3V Problem with CPU Sempron 2800+

Need help to configure my new CPU Sempron 2800+ in my motherboard KT3V. I have upgrade Bios but work 1900. i set Mhz to 166 and now work 2400+. Any body help plzzzzz

Make sure you have the latest bios update so it will recognize the sempron.
Windows may still try to read it as an old Thoroughbread even though it is not.
Just use CPU-z to make sure your getting Sempron clock speeds (2800+ Sempron is 2.0ghz i beleive) and that it recognizes all of the 256 L2 cache.

  • K8MM-V Support for Mobile Semprons

Has anyone tried the mobile semprons on this board? Will it work ?

    Maybe it'll work.
But it'll be a very difficult task - there's no heatspreader on a Mobile Sempron, if I'm not mistaken. The heatsink must be modified to fit onto the processor. And y'see, the die on the processor is very sensitive, you might not want to crack it.

  • K7N2G-L + newly installed Sempron 2800+ = games don't work anymore

    Hi folks,
I have upgarded my K7N2G-L mobo with a Sempron 2800+ Socket A Thoroughbred core and after that games installed on my computer stopped working. After clicking  a game icon, the black screen is displayed for a moment and Windows XP returns.
I have formatted the HDD and installed Windows XP again, than installed  drivers from  mobo CD and at the end games. It didn't help. Everything is as before. I have upgraded BIOS to the newest version yet before I installed the cpu. Bios recognizes the cpu correctly. I have performed HOT CPU TESTER PRO 4.41 and the cpu is OK. FSB is set to 166 (333) in the bios as well as by jumpers. The cpu temperature must be ok because the cpu passed hot cpu tester pro with a 100% load for 6 hours. However games work when I change FSB to the 133 (266) and what's more they work when the fsb is set to maximum 158, higher fsb results with that games stop to work.
    Any suggestions?

  • [VIA] KM4AM with sempron 2800+ shutdown!

    Hi. i buy a MSI KM4AM mainboard, and a Sempron 2800+ and 512 MB DDR 400MHz PC 3200
I followed the instructions, and configure the FSB clock jumper to 166MHz
but the PC shutdown in less than a minute...i thought it could be a BIOs configuration problem, maybe with the memory. Any ideas how to solve it?
    thanks a lot!

I doubt you would sustain damage, but it's not out of the question. That is why it shutdown, to protect itself. You should be ok, I've seen and even duplicated this issue myself with no ill effects.
I am not familiar with that mainboard, so I can't really comment.
I look at it this way. If it has the features you were looking for, and you've done your homework like looking for reviews etc, and it suits your needs, then you should be happy. The biggest thing is not to have expectations beyond it's capabilities. You also have to keep in mind every board is different ie has it's quirks etc.
    Glad you got it sorted....

  • Problem with K7N2Delta2 LSR and Sempron 2800+

Well.., yesterday at friends house, i decieded to push more my overclock (Stable was 200x11, 1.75v vCore), so i started playing around..., got the vCore to 1.8, the PC to 225x11 with rams running at aprox 110mhz (cant remember 100%, since they wouldnt run at 225), so... it booted up, i was on windows happy, transfering some files over lan, and decieded to burn a dvd..., now when that dvd was at about a 52% pc got stuck..., brrp..., i reseted it assuming it just wasnt stable..., but after that reset it wouldnt EVEN show the Bios windows (not the bios setup, but when its detecting ide, it shows your ram, procesor etc), i said [content edited]!!!, of course i proceded to Clear CMOS, but nothing happened..., as far as i know this mobo got a very strange way to reset the FSB, and its starting the pc while you pressing the key "Insert", it worked a few times when the FSB was at 210, 215, 220, (with rams @ 1:1), and it reseted just fine..., but this time it wont...
After some hours, and over my house, i started playing around trying to make it boot, and it booted once..., but i reseted to plug all back in (Ide, Sata, etc), and it wouldnt boot up again ><..., i removed Sata, Ide, and everything i plugged in and nothing..., last night i removed the jumper, the battery and disconnected the pc from the Energy source, and nothing this morning...., im really out of ideas, some people think its a Corrupt Bios, other thinks Procesor is gone, but i dunno what to think..., im thinking on flashing the bios on a friends house (who got same mobo), but i wanna be 100% sure of what the [content edited] i can be...

You'll find it printed on P.Su. side. And please, read carefully what the people trying to help, is asking you, so you can answer what is asked, and not other things.

  • Sempron 2800 recognised as Athlon 2400+

The mainboard is km7av, 512 ram, 120gb hd, geforce 256.
Before it has a 1.8 processor and works fine.
I chance the fsd to  166 and it change from 1.8 to 2.4.
The manual said that this mainboard support that processor.
    The bios is 3.0

I wonder a little what mobo you have. Is it this one: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=614&kind=1
It is probably only the name that is wrong, so an update should fix this
    Quoting Sharp:
    "Hello,
The 2800+ sempron operates at 2Ghz.
The XP2400+ CPU operates at 2Ghz.
So your BIOS probably can't detect the CPU name, usually a BIOS update can cure this."

  • Msi k8n neo3 cool 'n' quiet & amd a64 sempron 2800+

nice forum! I hope you guys can help me out.
    here's the deal.
I am what one would call a computer expert, but unfortunately I seem to miss something in this particular matter, unlike in other cases, which is very frustrating.
I personally own loads of MSI boards, most of which for amd64 systems, so I have experience with the drivers and utilities and I know how to get these systems up and running with cool 'n' quiet, except for this particular system. I know the cpu can't be to blame for this, since it supports cool 'n' quiet. I also have owned some other boards from other manufacturers (also amd64), so I'd like to think that I am aquainted with the technology.
    msi k8n neo3 motherboard:
    - bought this one three days ago
    - came with bios version 1.05x (!!!)
    - updated the bios to 1.5x (amongst others because of the sempron support)
    - enabled the coolnquiet feature (OC options were enabled, settings to optimized, captain etc. etc. (what I usually do)).
    - installed the drivers from the cd; the .inf driver was also installed (I saw a screen confirming that).
    - put energy management to minimalized setting
    - rebooted
and... nothing! well, except for the normal speed it should not be running on at 0% cpu load (1607 MHz).
tried installing the standard amd driver from the amd website; also nothing... I did come across this problem once before and then I had to conclude that the problem could be resolved by installing another amd a64 driver package that came from another manufacturer's motherboard cd (which should not be the problem of course, because this driver (just as the cpu) should be generic).
    configuration:
    - this board @ bios 1.5x
    - amd 2800+ sempron (latest model) + boxed cooler
    - 2x samsung ddr400 512mb (also tested it with corsair modules)
    - dvd-drive
    - couple of hard drives connected to pata/sata, no raid enabled.
    - winxp-32 us. SP2
apart from this particular problem, the system works just fine.
    who can help me out?

    Thanks for your replies guys.

Appearently only Sempron 3000+ and higher support CnQ .
Some lower models ildes down to as litte as 14W so CnQ don't make much sense in those low power models.
Also if the multiplier is locked downwards CnQ can't work (E.g can you run 7*200 , and make it stick).
Well, appearently this specific model does support it, I know this because it says so on the box... so why isn't it working then?
For the sake of the argument, what if this CPU did support CnQ, what am I doing wrong then?
What I also can't figure out is why these CPU's, according to your statement, should be doing something like 14W in idle mode, whereas these cpu's basically aren't that different from normal amd64 cpu's, except for the support of x86-AMD64 and having a larger cache ; these fully featured amd64 cpu's need something like 80-90W in stressed mode, running on their normal clock speeds and do something like 32W when in CnQ-mode. How is that possible? Because of newer generation production processes with less nm-technology or something like that?

  • KT6V and sempron 2800 problem

I have updated the bios to the latest version, but if i set the fsb to 166 the conputer fails as it starts to load windows, it doesnt display the correct information in post.
if i set it to 133 and run it as a 2300 (i think) it runs fine, but at 62c on idle!!!!!
any idea what may be going wrong here. i am going to do some more trouble shooting using my hardware which is kinda simliar, but i would rather not have to go through that hassle.
    david.

yeah it was on back to front, i am hating myself for that, it is down to the low 50s. still high but its really hot where i live.
i still cant put the fsb up to 166 to run it as a 2800. but ill work on it more when i can swap bits with my hardware.
    anyone else had the problem.
    thanks.
