Turning a computer simulation into sound

I have a program that simulates the behavior of a collection of what I call Connectrons. There are in this case 12 such of these Connectrons that are interconnected in such a way that they produce the following pattern of behavior. I have mapped these behaviors onto one octave.
B ......................$....................$....................$.............. ......$.............
A# .....$............$............$.................$............$............$... ............$.......
A ......................$....................$....................$.............. ......$.............
G# .................................................$............................. ..........$.........
G .....$............$............$............$............$............$........ ....$............$..
F# .........$.......$.......$.......$.......$.......$.......$.......$.......$..... ..$.......$.......$.
F ......................$....................$....................$.............. ......$.............
E .....$............$............$.................$............$...........$.... ...........$.......
D# ......................$....................$....................$.............. ......$.............
D .........$.....$..........$............$............$.....$...........$........ ....$............$..
C# .....$...............$............$............$................$............$. ...........$........
C ..................$............$............$.................$............$... .........$..........
Each dot is a beat and each $ is a note. There are a constant number of beats in each note-line. In a Courier font, every line would be the same length.
The actual pattern is much longer when it repeats. I could supply that file later. A real human genome would have 40,000 lines of different notes.
I can modify the file format however anyone would suggest to conform to some GarageBand input standard.
For example, I could reformat my input as
Instrument=piano
notevalue=1/8
beat=6
note=A#
note=G
note=E
Note=c#
beat=10
note=F#
note=D
beat=16
note=D
Or any variation on this style.

I take it you want to create a musical representation of "connectrons" in genomes.
I think the key is to choose musically meaningful variables that map meaningfully onto whatever science phenomenon you are trying to express, in order to avoid random-sounding cacophony (e.g. is a chromatic scale the best choice?).
I think the best program for this kind of thing is MAX: http://www.cycling74.com/products/maxoverview.
I believe you might be able to forage around for simpler MIDI mapping tools (or write your own, as Christoph suggests), and once your variables are realized in MIDI, you can import them into any DAW - what used to called, appropriately enough, a sequencer.

  • Downloading Adobe Reader turns all computer files into PDF's!

    Hi, Every time I try to download the Adobe Reader onto my laptop, it turns every file (including the internet etc) into a PDF File and I have to uninstall. I have no idea how to fix this can anyone please help? I assume it is something to do with my computer settings but I have never come across this problem before.

    If you create a System Restore Point before applying the registry fix, you can at any time restore the registry to its previous state; see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-restore-point

  • Turn on computer without sound?

    Is there a way to, after turning it off with sound on, turn on my macbook without it playing the start up sound?
    Too many times during class do I want to turn on my computer, but refrain from doing so because it will be a disturbance.

    That is a good question about which I wonder as well : I have the same problem, only it's at 5:55 in the morning and I don't want to wake the whole house up. Turning it off with sound off fixes the problem, now if you left the sound on I don't know. On iMacs (at least the one my father uses, which is not the most recent one nor the one before that, but the one even before, the last one that had a half-sphere) if you plug earphones in before turning the computer on, the sound will play in them and won't be heard. Now I think that this doesn't work on MacBooks, but you'd better check, Toucan334. I'll ask around on other forums and post any answer here.

    It sounds very very much like the battery. You will need to have it replaced. If you put the failing one in yourself you will need to pay as your Warranty is now void.

    You may want to wait for others to see this thread who might offer some other suggestions, but you could consider resetting the password. These instructions work for Lion (10.7.x) and Mountain Lion (10.8.x).

    Hello,
    My white McBook (2008 or 2009) recently stopped turning on.  When I hook up the Magsafe power adapter, the light shows green, but the computer will not turn on, or make a sound.  I've tried the re-boot option, but nothing works.  I first thought I needed a new battery because the lights at the back are all off, but shouldn't the computer turn on once the power adapter is hooked up and the light on the Magsafe adapter shows green?  I'm a computer doofus, so please be kind.  Please advise!  Thanks in advance.

  • Time Machine stops due to computer going into Sleep/Hibernation Mode

    Time Machine stops due to computer going into Sleep/Hibernation Mode then restarts to try to start the Back up process again and again vicious cycle. I have made sure all settings are turned off. I have done one or two backups since the initial first backup. My HDD is almost full and I want it backed up before I try to clone/mirror the drive to upgrade it to a 1TB HDD. Thank you in advance.

    Set the Energy Saver (in System Preferences) to Never. Then reset the NVRAM, as follows:
    Shut down your Mac.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
    Release the keys.

  • No power after turning off and plugging into a new functioning outlet.

    Every time I turn my computer on and open iTunes all my music is gone, if comes up with the scan media page, all my playlists have been deleted. All my music is still on the computer and in the files. I don't know why it keeps doing this, it's really annoying as I have loads of music and then have to do my playlists again just to sync my phone. Can someone please help??

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
    Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
    In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
    Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied and renamed asiTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
    If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
    When you get it all working make a backup!
    Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Even if you have the media you can use selected steps from the tip to ensure that you don't lose settings and data from the device as a result of switching libraries.
    A large number of users with this issue have been using AVG Anti-Virus which appears to be implicated in the problem. AVG have released a patch which might help, so if you use AVG then I would update that first. I'd also be interested to know which AV you use in case others may cause similar issues. I recommend excluding the iTunes folder from any real-time and scheduled AV scanning process. Another possible cause could be automatic backup tools.

  • Is there a way to turn a text character into an image?

    Is it possible to turn a text character into an image/shape...using Pages or any other iLife or iWorks app?
    Reason being - I want to use a certain font and a character in it, but that particular font is not being recognized/shown properly by another computer. I want to make sure the text character shows up as I intend, and I figure the way to do that is by turning the text character into an image/shape (like a jpeg maybe? or a tiff or gif? I don't know too much about the difference between these last two). Then I can paste that image onto any background and have it still look like text laying on top of the background.
    Hope that makes sense, and many thanks in advance for any insights!

    Although it saves the text character as an image, it also saves the background (the white of the page) as part of that image. So when the character is pasted into a document whose background is anything other than white, it doesn't look like a simple text character anymore. It looks like a white box with a text character in it. You know what I mean?
    I'm thinking I might need to use whole 'nother graphics program to do this whole deal...what do you think?
    Rather than using Preview, create the new image from the clipboard in GraphicConverter & use the transparency wand to make the background transparent. Then use ⌘ E to select just the image & save, choosing to save just the selection.

I'm worried about losing photos/videos of my children. Im not sure if there's something special I need to do once I turn it back on; in the meantime, its still on... which I'm afraid the picture on the screen will burn into the screen. Does that happen on iMac's? Thx!

    Try a hard reset. ( holding Power til it restarts)
    Once to your desktop. Click the Apple icon >> About this mac >> More info>> Storage
    Once you see what you have the most of. Try to see what you can delete.
    Open up any folder>>all files>> or buy an external to store more data.
    Once deleting make sure you empty your trash.
    If you are new and its a new computer, you might need to bring it to a store for further assistence.
