TV shows on 120Gb Classic

Addition to my earlier post on TV shows on Ipod, I have noticed lately, when I sync my Ipod, some of the files listed under TV shows, disappear from the Ipod, although they are still in Itunes, and NOT selected for deletion.
Is this an extra feature of Ipod, it has no sense of humor and does not like 1950's comedy shows?
Alex

The *disk full* error comes up in error if you try to copy a file that's too large for the filing system to cope with. The limit under FAT32 (which is what's on your iPod) is 4Gb so you've either got some very chunky files or this idea has nothing to do with the problem...
Can't say I recommend the iPod as a place to store anything you'd regret losing.

  • Random crashes with new 120gb classic

Is anyone experiencing random crashes with the new iPod classic 120gb units?
Every so often my unit just locks up and shows the Apple screen, only the screen is drawn in what looks like 4 colour mode, and badly drawn at that, requiring a hard reboot of the iPod to resume use (which sadly resets my smart playlists/playcounts by the looks of it).
This sounds like the problems that plaged the earlier 160gb models, so I changed my settings to not include album art which I've read circumvents the problem, and this seemed fine for a few days but I just had another lock up so maybe not.
    Mark

My new 120gb classic survived a 7 hour bus ride on Saturday without crashing once, however I was watching videos for most of the trip.
Over the weekend away I was using my small sound dock and again, no crashes what so ever.
After picking up my car from the workshop (the reason for the trip away) I plugged the classic into my Alpine IDA-X100 stereo (first time using the USB cable on the X100, as opposed to the older style connector) and no crashes at all during a 6 hour drive home.
And yet - after an hour of using the classic in the office with just headphones I've just had a crash.
This confuses me further - if it was firmware I'd have thought I'd have had crashes when using the sound dock, or car as well.
Have any of you who are also having crashes/skips seen this behaviour?

  • Shuffle problems with 120gb classic

    Hi all,
I was on my morning run and put my ipod 120gb classic on shuffle so it would shuffle through my nearly 4000 songs and then after it played 5 songs it started just flicking to the next song etc without playing it??!! Turned it off and then back on but same thing plays 5 songs normally then just flicks through the rest without playing them?!! VERY annoying! Hasn't happened before and I've had it since October. Also in the last few days it has stopped showing album art and my photos in the main menu?? Does anyone have a soloution or is this just another of what seems myriad of problems with the new classic?

This just happened to me after having my 120GB Ipod for 2 weeks. What I did was I clicked on "Restore" when the ipod is connected. It removes all your music and restores the ipod back to factory settings. Then I loaded everything back on. It's a pain in the neck but it worked.

  • 120GB Classic filled halfway. Games  error - Device Full

I have 16,000 tracks with playlists on a 120GB classic. The music isn't playing, screen just shows the music like it's playing, but the time counter doesn't move. It does this on all songs. Went to access a game and there was an error message saying that it cannot access a game becasue the device is full. There are 48.3GB of available space on the iPod. Any clues?

I think the problem is not hard-drive space, but ram. It may not be relevant to your case, but in the past I had created quite at lot of large interdependent smart playlists. As I put more music onto the iPod I began to find that it would reset when I played certain games, then any game, then occasionally just navigating menus could cause it, so I set about restoring. When I rebuilt the iPod I would use the method below and everything would work fine until I completeted the final phase of importing all my playlists. Once I suspected that the playlists might be the cause I went through them simplyfing the rules where possible or just excluding them from the sync list. My iPod has been fine ever since.

    <hr>
    *Break up large transfers*
In iTunes select the menu item *File... New Smart Playlist*. Change the first drop-down box to Playlist, the next to is and the next to Music. Tick against *Limit to*, type in say 10, then change the drop-down to GB, and set the last drop-down to artist. When you click OK you can enter a name for the playlist, e.g. Transfer. Now sync this playlist to your iPod rather than your entire library. When the sync is complete modify the rule ( *File... Edit playlist* ) to increase the size by your chosen amount, then sync and repeat. You can experiment with different size increments, if it doesn't work just choose something a bit smaller until it works each time. Before long you should have all your music on your iPod. Once that's done you can move on to other media such as podcasts, videos, photos, playlists etc.

  • I have a 120gb Classic that has no space left on it. i am going to buy a larger gb capacity ipod as soon as i get clearer instruction on how to get the old ipod content to the new ipod. How do you get content from one ipod to the other?

how do you get content from one ipod to the new one? my content is on an external hard drive not on my pc and i have run out of space on my 120gb classic. can you get old ipod content to new? my itunes has only got short cuts, the real content is on an external drive? can this be done?? please help

If the content is on an external drive, but your library knows where to find it, then it should all work. Connect your device, make some selections for what to put on it, and sync. If, on the other hand, your current iPod is the only place holding some of your media then see this user tip: Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

What generation  is model MB565LL 120GB classic ipod? I am afraid battery is going dead. Where can I find a replacement battery?

I'm no expert on eBay, but I'd look for a vendor that has made plenty of transactions with positive feedback and isn't going to gouge on the postage and packing. This search comes up with a few to choose from, but I'm in the UK so you may need to tweak it if you're elsewhere.

  • Can I use my Ipod photo 4th gen charger with the 120gb classic?

My new 120gb classic will arrive shortly, I notice Apple don't include chargers anymore. Will the mains charger I got with my old 60gb ipod photo also work with the new classic or do I have to buy a new one? I notice the charger on sale via the apple website looks a bit different to my old one.

If you old charger is a USB (+5V output) it will work. If it is a Firewire charger (+12V) then I think it will still work, but Apple has removed Firewire charging from most of the new iPod lines including the iPhone and 4th Generation Nano. However I think that the 120GB Classic may be the last iPod to still charge off Firewire chargers.
It won't hurt anything to try it. If it doesn't work, you will get a screen display that states that the accessory is not supported or something to that effect.
    Good luck,

  • 120gb classic

Why does 120gb classic take up nearly 9gb in programmes etc I know some has to used but 9gb seems excissive

My 160Gb Classic has 12GB taken up before I get to it. I'm not sure exactly what the space is all used for, but obviously firmware to allow the iPod to access the hard drive and to run the iPod.
You cannot do anything about it, and since 120GB is quite a lot of space, it should meet your needs for the foreseeable future. If you do run out of space for your music, there are ways to manage that, such as reducing the Bit Rate for your music, or using Smart Playlists to automatically add and remove songs from the iPod at each Sync.

  • IPod 120gb Classic randomly restarting

I just upgraded to a 120GB classic, my former iPod was a 4thGen 60gb. I've had it for just over 3 weeks now, and it's starting to act strange. Yesterday, it just stopped mid-song and restarted, and continued to do so. I'll get anywhere between 15-25 minutes of playtime, then it just restarts itself.
This has happened before, but not with any real frequency. Yesterday it started getting bad. Also, when it reboots to the apple screen, the colors are all distorted.
It's not at capacity (70+ gb free) and I'm running most the recent version of the software. The battery has almost a full charge. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

EXACTLY the same problem I'm having with my 120GB Classic, and it's only about three months old. The problem actually started after a few days of owning it. Restarts are random...sometimes it will be within a few minutes, other times after a few hours.
When I restore the iPod back to factory settings and resync my library it will temporarily cure the problem. However, if I add/remove/change music in my library and then sync again it tends to cause the problem to rear its ugly head once more.
I have sent the iPod back to Apple but they could find nothing wrong, and promptly sent it back to me.
Thinking it was a possible problem with my PC (Win XP Pro) I decided to wipe my PC at the weekend. I also rebuilt my itunes library. Still the fault reoccured. The other night I ran a tool called MP3Val (http://mp3val.sourceforge.net/download.shtml) on the mp3s on my hard drive to check them for any problems. Some of them did have some problems and I used the tool to repair them. Once this was done I did the restore and resync. Worked fine again until next sync and then back to square one again...
This is driving me mental now. I do not want to have restore my iPod every other day. It takes 2 hours for a start.
Oh, by the way, I trawled through the net a little while back, hoping to find a solution. One temp fix was to set the backlight to always on, and the brightness down to the lowest level. This DOES stop the restarts occurring but obviously this shouldn't be the fix we have to live with.
I'm going to take mine to my nearest Apple store next week. I've emailed them and they said they would replace it. Hopefully this will be the case and HOPEFULLY my next iPod won't have the same problem.

  • 120gb classic gone mang

My 120gb classic has decided to "quit", im not sure if i can save it, but im more than happy to try!
The screen has been white for about a month (not why im here), i know how to fix that but i need to back up the music first.
this whole time the screen has been white, i have been able to listen to my music (like a shuffle), again, fine with me
about 3 days ago something happened to it, it now wont play music and plays the clicks from the clickwheel (as if it was factory restored)
i plugged my ipod into an imac and it opened itunes i can listen to my music that way.
but for some reason a random selection of songs are "not found", they have the little exclimation mark.
these songs worked before the strange problem mentioned above.
these songs seem to be randomly selected from my whole collection, some are from albums that have other songs working from the same album.
is there anything i can do? or does anyone have any ideas?
i would rather not redownload the handful of songs that dont work.
i have already removed the rest off my ipod using a 3rd party program

My guess would be that some sections of the iPod's hard drive are no longer reading relaibly. If your screen were working you could go through some diagnostic tests but I'm guessing that isn't practical. You may get some milage from running disk check on the device. Because of the way that the media is arranged on the device a single corrupt folder could result in random tracks from different ablums becoming inaccessible. Disk check might be able to restore the folder or recover the files that were in it to the root of the drive.

  • Ipod 120gb Classic won't connect to ITunes and says it has 'no music'

    hi!
I've had my Ipod Classic 120gb since the end of 2008 and never experienced any problems. But since this morning things have gone WRONG!
This morning I wanted to rip some cd's to my ipod as I do about every week . I rip the cd's ...then drag them to the ipod and remove them from ITunes after that to save space on my pc.
But when I wanted to rip my cd's, connected my Ipod it gave me a different menu than normal and mentioned something about synchronizing to the ITunes library. Because I think/thought that if I would synchronize, I'd lose all my music in the ipod I unchecked it and proceeded.
But then trouble began. The Ipod section on the left didn';t find any music and all the playlists etc were also missing.
Then I ejected the ipod to see if it would play normally and check if the music would still be on it. Well here comes the weird thing: according to my Ipod...there is no music on it (anymore). But the weird thing is...before all of this misery started...I had 2GB of free space left. And this is still the case.....so the music is probably on there somewhere (especially since when I go in the Ipod via this way: F:\iPod_Control\Music i can see the music still in there but then listed like this:  F:\iPod_Control\Music\F00) ...
Then I tried connecting to I Tunes once again to see if I could do some kind of recovery via I Tunes but now Itunes can't seem to find the Ipod anymore. As mentioned above , Windows actually sees the Ipod. I've tried all the steps as mentioned on the support (these ones:
    2. Restart the iPod Service
    3. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service
    4. Empty your Temp directory and restart
    5. Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed
    6. Change your iPod's drive letter
    7. Remove and reinstall iTunes
    8. Disable conflicting System Services and Startup Items
    9. Update, Reconfigure, Disable, or Remove Security Software
    10. Deleting damaged or incorrect registry keys)
but none of them have fixed the problem . Anyone ever experienced something like this? Any solutions or is bye bye Ipod and the many hours of cd ripping?
Hope anyone can help me out on this one. Thanks in advance!

Your iPod filesystem is corrupted, although the music is still there as you mentioned there is only 2GB of free space.
However due to the corrupted iPod filesystem, iTunes or the iPod firmware cant report the correct file structure.
    Suggestions
In Windows Explorer or my Computer, click on the iPod -> Properties->Tools->Error Checking->Check Now
    Tick on Autofix Filesystem error.
If it doesn't work, google  3rd Party softwares for iPod to PC recovery,  like
    iPodAccess http://www.findleydesigns.com Mac/Windows, $20, limited trial available
There maybe other freeware, that do iPod corrupted database recovery.
    Have a nice day!

  • Trouble downloading new tv shows to iPod Classic

Am having trouble with my iPod Classic. Recently purchased new tv shows and successfully downloaded them to both my computer and iPad; but will not sync onto my iPod(although) there is more than even storage space available. Help!

Not all iTunes video can be transferred to iPod, If the video resolution or video bit rate beyond iPod limitation, even though they are mp4 video, you can't upload them to iPod. For example, some iTunes purchased movie are High definition movie, the resolution is too high to play on iPod, You can highlight the problem video in iTunes and choose Create iPod or iPhone version from the Advanced drop down menu.  When the conversion process has completed, sync the new version to your iPod. For more info, here is a guide about how to convert and transfer video to iPod classic. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • How can I start up my ipod 120GB classic without a firewire connection? Is this possible to do?

I have had this ipod for 2 years and its been sitting in a box because I didnt know how to fix it, thought I'd give it a whirl tonight. It stopped working, displaying the red X screen and Im trying reboot/reset it and  I am at the Accessorize Test. However my Ipod/ Computer doesnt have a Fire Wire port to connect so can I continue in anyway to fix this IPod without the Firewire Port, if not is there any other way to fix this?

You dont  need Friewire for a 120GB, unfortunately you are going about things the wrong way.
    Try these steps
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours) (the iPod need power to run)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Installed iTunes and connect iPod to the USB port.
    Good luck!

  • Can't Add TV Shows to iPod Classic

Recently, I downloaded from the iTunes store a couple TV shows. One was a King & Maxwell episode titled “Wild Card” that I missed a few weeks ago on TNT. The other was the pilot episode of Sleepy Hallow that aired on FOX this past monday.
While attempting to put those two shows on my iPod Classic, I got an error message that said “Wild Card was not copied to the iPod, Dad’s iPod, because it cannot be played on this iPod.” Same with the Sleepy Hallow Pilot.
Why is this. In the past I put shows on my iPod with no problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does any error message pop up?
I've been there before, but the TV Shows didn't sync because of the resolution of the file (iPod supports 640 by 480 pixels).
There's a built-in converter in iTunes. Highlight the items you want to sync go to the Advanced tab and choose "Create iPod or iPhone version". This will create files that should work with your iPod...
If you try this, please report your results... some people (including me) are having problems with the process.
    I hope it helps.
