TwinView with 2 different sized monitors

Hi,
I am using TwinView on my laptop, which has a 1440x900 screen resolution, with a 1280x1024 monitor attached. I have set up a horizontal layout with the external monitor on the right, resulting in a 2720x1024 desktop.
My problem with that is that, being my laptop 124 pixels shorter than the external monitor, the bottom left corner of the desktop (or the top left, if I shift the layout) is always cut off.
I can have the left monitor scroll, but I don't want that - I need the whole desktop visible all the time.
Is there a way to configure Xorg in order to have a 2720x900 desktop, that is as tall as the shortest monitor, using only the top 900 pixels of the external monitor? In simpler words, I would like to have the right monitor to use an area of 1280x900 pixels, and the rest would be black/unused. Is that possible?
This is my current Xorg configuration:

  • How do I make a site with full browser sized images look right on different desktop monitors

If I cannot get an answer to this question, I will have to cancel my subscription. I have contacted support to no avail, and there is no place else to go for help. My vertically scrolling site looks great on my laptop, but when published the layout is all screwed up on differently sized desktop monitors. I have spent hundreds of dollars now in cc subscription now learning this. Someone please help!

I think you're asking how to make a fullscreen slideshow.
That's a new feature just added with the Muse 7 release.

  • NEW NICHE DEVICE NEEDED: a MINI sized monitor for  portbility!!

The first time I saw the Mini, in my mind I envisioned an entire desktop ensemble comprised of Mini sized gadgets- smaller sized keyboards, little mice, cute little USB HD's and yes an itty bitty sized flat screen monitor like those digi picture frames that everyone is making! This is the biggest no brainer solution which so far has escaped the entire industry!
The Mini, after all is no smaller and no more portable than the size of the largest periphrial device in the desktop system. The smallest monitor sold in any retail store is currently 17" diag. and what we need is half that size. Funny how everyone jumped on the Mac Mini fashion statement to make external drives and every other kind of USB periphrial device within the chassias size of the Mini which was smart niche marketing...except they neglected to exploit the ultimate ADVANTAGE the Mini could afford as being the smallest most power and capable desktop system. Perhaps Apple neglected to embellish this advantage in order to prevent the affordable Mini from hurting its laptop sales.Just a theory. But third party vendors have also ignored this obvious design advantage and have not given us any Mini sized keyboards and monitors.
Now we see so called Mac Mini-designed keyboards that are smaller than those huge surfboard sized ergonomic shaped padded boards that serve well as a desktop bed pillow and arm rest but these new keyboards are really just the old skool no-frills boards that are smaller than the new styled surfboard sized ones.
While I can carry my Mini +my 500Gb USB external drive +mouse +power adaptor inside a cute leather shaving kit bag, the modularity factor becomes a JOKE when I walk into a Starbucks or Public Library with a 22" Flat screen monitor under one arm and my little shaving bag in my hand!!I got yelled at by two fat ladies at the Library when after asking them if I can plug my Mini into their ac wall socket I went to my car and returned with my fullsized roller suitcase containing my shaving bag with Mini Plus my billboard sized flat screen monitor.
"We don't allow HUGE MAYFLOWER MOVING TRILER SIZED suitcases inside the Public Library ,sir!! YOU MUST LEAVE AT ONCE OR GET RID OF THAT SUITCASE!"
"But,madame sir, this is my Mac "MINI"..its mini mini mini mini OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE TWO ROLLER SUITCASES-One for my Mac Tower of Power and one for my billowing billboard sized monitor!!!!", I pleaded. Then I rolled my empty roller suitcase outside (its back-up beeper beeping as I carefully navigated through the metel detector gates.UuuuGhhhh
Watch...someone flunky engineer in some company somewhere will read this post and get a light bulb over his otherwise empty skull and get himself one huge promotion by sketching a new Mac Mini 10 " flatscreen monitor that sells cheap for $100! I'm here waiting with cash in hand...

Your assumption is that folks who need portability prefer to use a fragile battery powered toy with a PDA style rinky **** keypad with tiny trackball gizmo and that assumption is dead wrong. Proof lies in the keyboard/mice/periphrial device aisle of any computer store. You see tons of USB devices for laptops intended solely to provide desktop system features/capability that the laptop doesn't provide. An lets not forget to add the cost of repairing these fragile thin puters..replacing adaptor cords and battery packs etc . Soon you've got more $ tied up ina laptop than you ever intended.
Personally I've yet to meet ANY laptop user who LOVES the tricky pain in the a**
trackball navigation mechanism and compact PDA-like keypad. Everyone I know relies upon a USB mouse and most folks are plugging fullsize keybords into their slim fragile overpriced laptops because pecking on the rinky **** keypad toy greatly increases the risk of damaging or dropping the computer. ( They are merely trying to minimize the need to touch the machine as they work which is smart thinking ..its the desktop systems design strategy as well.
The machine itself need not be touched and so we use wireless or USB periphrial devices . The Mini therefore is classified as a desktop but by definition "desktop system "does not preclude the need nor capability for modular portability and besides the MAC MINI IS BY FAR MORE DURABLE AND IMPACT RESISTANT THAN ANY LAPTOP so there goes your premis out the window.
I'll bet you one dozen ac powered laptop chiller pads, two sticks of DDR RAM and five laptop replacement power adaptors/battery chargers ('cause you laptop users seem to go through these pricey adaptors/cords faster than alkaline
batteries in a boombox at a beach bikini contest!) that if you displayed a Mac Mini with a small 10"screen sitting beside it and full size keyboard/mouse priced for $850 in the Apple store laptop sales would puke.
There's no debate that when you need thin notebook sized
modularity and battery pwr the laptop is the only solution.
I've not been hampered by the lack of battery powerpack just the lack of
    a small monitor.

  • Need help with a Asus 27" monitor with webcam problem.

Need help with a Asus 27" monitor I bought.  Model VK278Q.  The issue is that the webcam will not work properly.  Various applications can see the webcam, but I just get a black box.  From what I have read, the issue seems to be that there are no official drivers for the webcam.
I thought someone in this community might be able to offer some help before I return the monitor. I read somewhere that it may be possible to tweat the OS so that the iSight software will work for the monitor webcam.
    Thx

Eureka! You now understand the situation.
Even the old standard for Mac OS X drivers for non-compatible cams, macam, says that it has no driver for ASUS (20") monitor camera.
    The macam status shows:
    not working (no documentation)
With no working driver for the 20" ASUS, it is not surprising that there is none for the 27" either.  There may be good reason that ASUS won't (or can't) offer either the technical documentation or a Mac driver for their monitor's inbuilt webcam.  However, they apparently do not publish that information.
If ASUS Technical Support cannot provide the driver you need for OS X, the ASUS will continue to be a ridonculous (sic) monitor whose webcam will not work with your OS X Mac.  The only other simple fix I can think of is to use the ASUS with a different PC that is compatible with this monitor and its inbuilt webcam.  What you do is certainly your choice.

  • Different sized clips in the same sequence?

I have footage from various types of cameras with resolutions ranging from 640x480 to 720P in the same sequence.
    1. What is the best size to set my sequence? At the size of the largest clip?
    2. What else can I do to make the different sized clips work well in the same sequence (with the understanding that 640x480 is low res and poor quality)?
    Thanks.

    Hi Stanwelks,
    1) No, especially since the 640x480 material you have is not of good quality (even if it was you'd lose quality by enlarging the images). Sounds like that converting the HD material to SD could be your best choice especially if you have more standard definition material than HD.
2)Keep it simple. Convert the HD material to DV and work on a DV timeline. This way you can match your sequence settings to one format, making sure you don't get to render all the time and that the lower res material is not going to look any worse.

  • Can I make my web page stretch and shrink to fill different sized browsers?

    Hey team,
I just built my first site in iWeb: www.dylanjamesgeorge.com
    I'm using iWeb version 3.0.2
I set the page width to 1200px because that's what looks best on my screen, however when I look at the site on a larger or smaller screen it doesn't look good. When I check out some other websites they manage to make their content stretch to fill different sized browsers. Something about using relative sizes (%) instead of absolute sizes (pixels) for the page dimensions?
I know iWeb doesn't offer this option, but I'm wondering if there's anyway to change the code manually.
I'm just trying to avoid people with small screens having to scroll to see content and people with large screens being left with lots of void space on either side of the screen.
Thanks in advance for your time.
    Dylan

    Hey Roddy,
Thanks for your reply. I've read that before, but what I'm trying to do is get the content on my page to move as the browser window gets smaller. For example, if I grab the bottom right hand corner of my browser right now and make the window smaller, the content of this page will adjust itself to stay centered until the window is too small, THEN it will add a scroll bar. Any idea how to make this happen in iWeb?

  • Iweb auto adjust for different computer monitor settings

Nobody has the same display settings on their monitor, so how can I get iweb to auto adjust to different computer monitor settings?

Are you referring to screen size? If so many prefer to have their browser window set to the size they want unlike PCs in which the browsers usually always fill the screen blocking out the desktop.
Why not set your site width to a size that can be utilized by all, desktops, laptops and mobile devices. Apple recommends 980 pixel width for that.
There was a post about this some time ago with, if I recall correctly, some code to do that. I think Cyclosaurus posted it but am not sure.
I know its a personal preference but when I land on a site that forces my browser to fill the screen I leave and don't go back.

  • Scale multiple differently sized objects to exact equal dimensions

    Hello guys
What I'd like to do is the following: I have a large number (couple of hundreds) of equally shaped but differently sized objects - actually circles - and I'd like to scale them all to the exact same height and width while keeping their positions. Apparently, doing it by hand would take quite a while, so I'm looking for a single command or an automated way of doing it.
I have already tried and excluded the following ways:
    - Selecting all objects and playing aroung with the "Transform" box always resulted in the whole selection being scaled.
    - Transform each: my objects are all differently sized, so percental scaling is of no use.
    - CMD+D: I also tried to do it by first resizing one object and then applying CMD+D to each other object by hand, but this function seems to use percental scaling as well. This means: When I scale one object from 10px to 12px (120%), then select an 8 px object, press CMD+D, the final size of the second object is 9.6px instead of 12px. ARGH.
    - Recording an action: I have little experience with actions, but it seems that the result is the same as above when I select all objects (whole selection scaled, instead of each object).
I am using Illustrator CS5 (15.0.2) on a Mac 2.66 GHz quad-core with OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). I couldn't find a proper thread in this forum (or any other forum), so I'm starting a new one here. Maybe I didn't look properly, so please redirect me if there is one that answers my question.
    Thanks in advance!
    HOR

if they are circles, ovals, rectangles or rounded corner rectangles that is easy
    1 Select all  the objects.
    2. Go to Effect>Convert to Shape and select the shape even if it is the same shape you have already.
    3. Select Absolute as the method and enter the dimensions you wish click OK.
    4. While still selected go to Object>Expand Appearance.
But if you have fill and a stroke for these circles they will be two separate paths of the same dimesnions each as a group.
So you will have to either accept that or delete the paths you don't want so you will:
    1. lock all the art other than the circles
    2. Select one of the paths either with the stroke or the fill
    2. Go to Select>Same Stroke Weight
    3. Hit delete

  • Using my mid 2012 MB Air with an external HDMI monitor question.

Am wanting to use my mid 2012 MacBook Air 13 inch running Mavericks with an external HDMI monitor.
I've got a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter which I've plugged in and am able to redirect the sound to my speaker equipped external monitor by choosing it in the sound output preferences box.
BUT I've got a picture displayed on both my air and monitor.
My question - is it possible to switch the display so that it only shows on the external monitor - I'm only wanting to display the same picture on both displays.
Finally is it possible to show one screen on the Air and a different one on the HDMI Monitor.

  • How to enter invoice with two different tax codes in one line?

    Dear friends,
I have this PO for which I enter the invoice.
I recieve later a subsequent debit for this PO from the transporter. This subsequent invoice has got extra debits, one with 21% VAT and one with 19% VAT, which means two items with two different tax codes.
I want to enter this subsequent debit for each item of the PO, and I want to enter both debits in every item of the PO.
How can I enter in one row in MIRO a debit with two different tax codes.
    Thank you.

I want in the same line item to enter two tax codes.
Do you Know if there is any way to do this?
It is a subsequent debit and it has two items with two different tax codes. I want to enter the subsequent debit for a PO with many items and enter the value of the whole subsequent invoice. So there is the need to enter one line item with two tax codes.
    How can this be done?
    Thank you?

Yes, the email addresses need to be unique to each device. You may use the same Apple ID on each device, but the email address used by each device needs to be different.

  • How do I use my late 2011 iMac ( with thunderbolt) as external monitor for laptop/Xbox or other device with hdmi as output.

May be this question has been asked thousand times. how do I use my mid 2011 iMac ( with thunderbolt) as external monitor for laptop/Xbox or other device with hdmi as output. if apple hasn't removed that feature and has just moved that functinoality to thunderbolt then how can I use it. currently there is no laptop available with thunderbolt output. no 3rd party converter available. whats the use of having feature on latest functionality if we cant use it. I wish they would have made one port has mini-dvi and other thunderbolt for backward compatibility untill some vendor comes up with converter.

    It Says :
Mac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) and iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) and later computers support Target Display Mode via Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable (2 m) when the source is another Thunderbolt-equipped computer.
Name one computer model/vendor which has thunderbolt as output for display + audio. this is so stupid to move to new technology without availbility of its compatible devices.
