Two user profiles in SQL Developer

Hello,
is it possible to start 2 instances of SQL Developer on Windows with 2 different user profiles at the same time? I like to have one instance with a set of connections and one instance with another set of connections. Maybe it is also possible to color the connections with a different color (like TOAD) at this possibility I don't need 2 different profiles. I need for better overview which project I'm working on. Ok, I can name my connection with prefixes for example, but when many SQL windows are opened, the differences are not so clear.
I'm also happy for different solutions.
Best regards
Carsten

Mmm, yes, but you could mix up a batch file for using one file or the other.
And this is really just a Java parameter, so you should be able to just pass it as command line parameter to the executable, like:
sqldeveloper -J-Dide.user.dir="%SQLDEVELOPER_USER_DIR%"Hope that helps,
K.

  • Two user profiles on my iMac but only one can connect to the internet

    Hi,
I got the most recent upgrade for Lion and installed it.  I have two user profiles on my iMac and now, only one of them can connect to the internet yet both appear to have gotten the full upgrades.  Any ideas why this might be happening?
    Thanks!!

Does the Account that can not connect to the Internet have full Administative priveleges or is it a Standard Account. If Standard, check to make sure it is allowed to connect.

  • Profiler in SQL Developer not working

When I run the profiler in SQL developer , I get the following error.
"Directory exists; check if /tmp exists on file system, and oracle has permission to write there. "
This error sounds like an UNIX error but I am running SQL developer on Windows 7 (64) OS. Has anyone seen this or knows how to get around it.
    Thanks so much..

    Hi,
According to the SQL Developer 3.1.04.72 documentation, the "get" command (among others) is not supported:
Help|Table of Contents|SQL Developer Concepts and Usage|Using the SQL Worksheet|SQL*Plus Statement Supported and Not Supported...
so options are limited. If sqlplus is accessible and using it as an "external tool" won't conflict entirely with local policy, these links might interest you:

Otherwise you may add a feature request for this on the SQL Developer and see if such an enhancement is a priority for the community.

  • Using Proxy User Authentication in Sql Developer

    Hi!
Is it possible to use proxy user authentication in SQL Developer? I'm thinking that if I'm clever enough, I can craft a custom jdbc URL that will allow my users to proxy authenticate into my Oracle 10gR2 database while using SQL Developer.
Unfortunately, I'm not feeling all that clever. ;)
Can anybody help me out here? Is it even in the realm of possibility?
    Thanks!

I found the possibility that proxy authentication of both accounts can be enforced:
    SQL> alter user appuser grant connect through personaluser AUTHENTICATION REQUIRED;
I guess that this is the motivation for implementing the 2-session proxy connection method in SQL Developer.

  • Proxy User Authentication with SQL Developer

    Hello,
I realized that there are 2 methods for configuring SQL Developer to user Proxy User Authentication.
    1) one-session method with Syntax:
    personaluser[appuser]
    2) two session-method with dialog "Proxy Connection"
For me it is unclear, why anybody would want to use the two-session-method.
    a. you need username/password for both user acocunts (personaluser and appuser)
    b. it is unclear which operations in SQL Developer are using the personaluser account. It seems that the SQL Window is only using appuser account.
What was the motivation to implement Two Session Method?
    Best regards,
    Martin

  • How to compare two schemas in Oracle sql developer

    Hello,
I need to compare both the data and schemas details (columns etc) between two schemas on different databases (connections).
What is the easiest and most efficient way to do this? Hopefully in Oracle Sql Developer or Sql Plus?
    Thanks.

In SQL Developer go to Tools -> Schema Diff !
in SQL* Plus you will need to write PL/SQL for this.

    Hi there,

  • Prompt For User Input in SQL Developer

I am using the '&' in a very basic SQL select script, but I do not get a prompt for my input. However, i have used the '&' in update scripts and it does prompt me.
    For example:
    select DCC_DESCRIPTION
    from S_TBLDTMINOR
    where DCC_DTMINOR = &Minor;
Gives an ORA-01008 error (not all variables bound).
If it's a varchar field and I use '&Minor' - it executes with no error, but does not prompt for data. Please note:  this script works when it's run in SQL*Plus, but not in SQL Developer.
    If I execute:
    update S_TBLDTMINOR
    set DCC_DESCRIPTION = 'Mark & Wilson'
    where DCC_DTMINOR = 'AAA';
It does prompt me for a value (but I do not want it to).
So I know prompting works in SQL Developer, but it does not work in select statements.
Is this a configuration setting I can change in SQL Developer? I know I can use the escape in the update statement to avoid the prompt, but I'm not concerned with that. I'm trying to get the prompting to work in the select statement.

    Hi user12289057,
1/Not sure what your testcase is (including table definition), I was trying to reproduce with:
select * from dual where dummy = '&myin'
    2/Try
    undefine Minor
to ensure Minor is not already set.
3/Minor may need to be quoted if it is a string.

  • Firefox is only displaying one of the two user profiles on my computer

I just added my husband onto my computer by creating a user profile for him. It seemed fine at first, but then it disappeared. After researching the problem I think what probably happened was that I forgot to uncheck the "Don't ask at start up" box in the Firefox-choose user profile box. How can I get back to this box and uncheck it? I can't find it.

Create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch each user with its own profile.

My MacBook Air has two versions of my user ID - only one of those I use. I fear that all my files are duplicated, because my startup disk is full. How can I consolidate these two profiles? And, are my files really all there twice and taking up lots of room? Thanks for your help!

Well, mostly you don't. Most of us eventually wind up with at least two.

  • SQL Developer High Memory Consumption 3.2.20.09.87

    Hello,
I have been using SQL developer for quite some time and had initially had problems in the past with high memory consuption when I use this tool.
I have received and applied advice from this forum and while it had helped a little, the majority of the high memory consuption remained an issue.
I finally got more time to dig around and try to specifically isolate where the problem seems to be coming from and here is what I found.
*1)* I have removed the Check for Updates feature
*2)* I have turned off many of the extensions except for DBA Navigator, Real Time SQL Monitoring, SearchBar and Snippet.
*3)* When I start a fresh SQL Developer Session and initiate a Oracle Connection the application consumes roughly 148 meg fo RAM
*4)* When I open my Windows Task Manager and watch the memory allocated to SQL Developer I notice it goes up when I move my mouse over the SQL Developer tool and When I run through menus at roughly 5k a second or so and the memory is never released back to the system.
*5)* When I run a Large SQL to the grid the memory jumps by about 100 meg or so and will continue to do so every time I repeat the SQL until SQL Developer consumes roughly 748 meg of RAM.
*6)* 748 Meg of RAM seems to be the number when SQL Developer (with one Oracle connection) no longer continues to consume more and then not return the memory to the system.
Is there a way to have SQL Developer automatically clear up it's active memory usage without closing it down and restarting it?
Why does SQL Developer continue to consume more and more memory just from moving your mouse over it and/or by navigating menus?

    Aces!!! You nailed it Gary...
    Thank you.
I applied fixed noted in Re: Reduce SQLDeveloper memory footprint with JDK 1.7
For others, to summarize my changes.
    product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf
    AddVMOption -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions
    AddVMOption -XX:+UseG1GC
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50
    AddVMOption -XX:GCPauseIntervalMillis=200
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=128M
    AddVMOption -Xms50M
    AddVMOption -Xmx384M
    AddVMOption -XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=10
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio=10
    product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\ide\bin\ide.conf
comment the following two lines as shown below
    #AddVMOption -Xmx640M
    #AddVMOption -Xms128M
Now SQL Developer runs at roughly 500 meg.
I guess the only thing I have left to ask others reviewing this would be if there is a way to get these memory values down without having much adverse impacts on SQL Developer based on newer JVM switches/functionalities.
The posts that drove these changes are old from a technologoical perspective :) 2010.

  • A Patch to SQL Developer 1.5.4

For those of you who have been involved with SQL Developer through a number of releases, you'll be aware that we have wanted to take advantage of the Check for Updates facility to update releases. We have established that the mechanism is not effective when there are structural any changes to some core functionality and as such we now require you to do a full download and reinstall to upgrade a release. However, we can use the mechanism to patch a feature.
We have now released a patch to SQL Developer 1.5.4. You must have SQL Developer 1.5.4 installed to see the patch. To download and install the patch, use Help -> Check for Updates. Check the Oracle SQL Developer option to list the patch. Select to install and complete the wizard.
This patch fixes LDAP, Import and the 9i, 11g query performance issues recently discussed on the forum.
The patch is made up of two parts, the file sqldeveloper.1.5.4.jar will be installed into the \sqldeveloper\ide\lib\patches folder and the file oracle.sqldeveloper.patch.jar into the \sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\extensions folder. To remove the patch, delete these two files and restart SQL Developer
    Regards
    Sue

____Thanks for the link. I'm not quite sure how or when the patch got installed (Attempt #: 1) Local install as user - cycle - no joy; 2) Local install as root - cycle - root is patched, user is not; 3) Local install as user - cycle - MIGRATE ! - WAHOO !). I'm starting to dream about Thomas Alva Edison (perspiration vs. inspiration) sitting in a lotus-type squat chanting "Per Ardua Ad Astra".
P.S. For the Linux curious here's how I ran as root :
    1) Start Konqueror in "Super User Mode" (see System -> File Manager);
    2) Walk the dir. tree to /opt/sqldeveloper (from the RPM install);
    3) Press "F4" to spawn a shell window;
    4) Type in "./sqldeveloper.sh" (w/o quotes) and press "Enter".
This way avoids multiple logins and the use of su / sudo .

  • Multiple Apple IDs, Multiple Apple Devices, Multiple User Profiles, & One Mac

My husband and I recently bought our first mac and iPhones. When we set each of them up I'm not sure we took the best method as far as ease of access to content and simplification. Each iPhone is linked to a separate Apple ID and we have two user accounts on our mac that each use our own Apple IDs. This prevents us from sharing content between devices linked to the other person's Apple ID. Is there a way to overcome this or should we have set up our devices differently? When we got the mac and transferred our music over from our old computer we ended up essentially setting up duplicate files, one for each user profile. We've each purchased items or downloaded digital content on each Apple ID. Is there a simple way to combine all of this content and maintain two user profiles? I'm fine with even reducing our profiles to one if that ultimately simplifies everything and we don't lose anything. However, keeping our iPhones under separate Apple IDs allows for personal settings and downloads. We're also considering buying an iPad. Would registering all of our devices make things easier? How should we have set up our accounts and devices? How can we make things simpler?

You might try setting up iCloud Family. I haven't tried it but I think it could help. https://www.apple.com/icloud/family-sharing/
