U430 Touch Screen Hinge Issue

Hi,
I have U430 Touch Screen Hinge issue, but lenovo service agents are not responding even if I give them the reference of below forum. Can you please help me resolve this issue as the laptop is under warranty (bought on december 2014)and it was not damaged. It was used last night and then just closed and kept on the bed. When I returned and tried opening it, I had this hinge issue. Please help me get this issue resolve at once.

Hi, This is the third time I called them but they are persistent that it is not cover under warranty for U430T. I do understand that if it is an accidental damage then it will not be covered. But my point is, from my end, there was no damage on the laptop and simply closed it and tried opening it after a while caused it. Furthermore refering to the post link, it is mentioned by Amy Tuper that if it is under warranty and cause is not by damage contact support. It is also mentioned that Lenovo launched an investigation in which it was concluded that there was mount failure on this model. So, my question is, isn't there a possibility that this defect could have been the mount failure issue ? Last call, they state that it is just for U530T even when the post says it is for both U430T and U530T. People on the same post have posted that they got it repaired by Lenovo for free. I am not sure what to believe, the post posted by Lenovo or the support service ? Can you please escalate the issue as it is hampering my day to day work. Awaiting reply from your end.

  • U430 Touch Screen Hinge

I got the Lenovo U430 Touch in late August and have noticed that the screen hinge wasn't very sturdy but it was still working fine. But today the hinge is broken and I can't close the screen properly without adjusting it. I didn't drop it or damage it and I looked it up and saw that other people were having similar issues and saying it was a production failure. Is there anyway I can get a replacement or do I have to send it in for repairs? I'm in college and I'll be needing it for a couple more weeks so I can't send it in for repairs yet. And is the $99 fee not covered by the warranty? I called Lenovo support and they said they can't look at my laptop until I pay the fee. I feel like the quality of Lenovo has declined recently. Any help would be appreciated.

This just happened to me this morning! For those of you that were working with it broken for a while...did the break impede your daily use in any way beyond the inconvenience of the hinge function? I'm teaching in Romania right now (ironically, I bought this model specifically so it would be easier to travel with) and won't be back home in the U.S. for over a month so I can't exactly send it to be fixed right away. Am I going to damage it further if I keep using it? Edit: I'm also out of warranty, AND I noticed a month or two ago that my screen stop auto-rotating whenever I tried to flip it (which wasn't often at all, so I still don't know why my hinges would break so suddenly). Am I going to end up paying for these repairs?

  • Lenovo U430 touch screen screen crack in just 6 months?

Hi! I brought my lenovo 6 months ago and my experience was very bad....
After i tink around 2 months. Whenever i open up my laptop, there is like a crack sound. I couldnt see anything visable until yesterday when the bottom of the screen just pop out.
I went to the service center and was told this is not covered in the warrenty and he was sure I had drop it before to have such a problem.
However I AM 100% SURE i have not drop my laptop before. My previous 2 computer could use for 5 and 4 years respectively but this lenovo brand computer that i tried is a disappointment.
I was told the estimated cost is around $300 if i would have to repair it and it would take 1 month to fully fix it.
I am a student. I have many upcoming projects to finish. Do you think i will have 1 month to fix this problem. And that $300 is just too much.
I am pretty sure it is the quality of the laptop since i have NEVER drop it before. Although i close and open the laptop many times due to the need to travel between school and home almost everyday, isit that what a laptop is for to be portable?
Please find out for me what can I do with this problem or are there any cheaper alternative out there since i am not that rich to just throw away my money for this.

I need to gather several customer-provided photos of hinge mount failures on the U430 Touch model.
If you could, it would really help me if several people could provide photos. (Please resize photos to make them smaller before posting.)
    Thank you for your help,

I just bought a new IdeaPad U430 laptop a few days ago and I love it. However, the touch screen doesnt work. I've looked through the forums and have tried a lot of things and none of it has helped so far. Using the f6 key on the laptop freezes the mouse but the touch screen doesnt seem to recognize my finger. Please help! Like I said, I love everything else about this laptop and I really dont want to return it.

    hi graceella,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Ideally, the OS automatically identifies if you have unit with a Touchscreen or not. To check, look under Control Panel (large icon view) > System (see images below).
    Non-Touchscreen:
    - Link to picture
    - Link to picture
    Touchscreen:
    - Link to picture
If the machine is showing No Pen and Touch Input:
    1. The OS is not identifying the screen as Touch capable. To isolate, perform a System Recovery (via the OneKey Recovery button) to check if the issue is on the OS level (ensure you backup important files first).
If the machine is showing Limited Touch Support:
    1. Recalibrate or Reset the touchscreen
    2. Reconfigure the Touchscreen
    If same problem,
    3.  Press the Windows key‌ +R, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
    4. On the device manager, navigate to Human Interface Devices and uninstall anything that says HID-compliant device. When finished, reboot the system and observe.
    5. After the reboot, press Windows key‌ +R, type mspaint and press Enter. On mspaint, try to touch the screen and observe if the touchscreen capability is working.
     - Link to picture
If the above steps doesn't resolve the issue, I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the problem (or the place of purchase if it's still possible to exchange the unit).
    Regards

  • U430 Touch Screen Settings / System Question

Is there anyway to adjust the touch screen for the ideapad U430? I have noticed over the last couple of days the touch screen is getting more and more difficult to click on things. I have only had the laptop about a week, if that. Also, does anyone know why this computer is soooo slow? I know it comes with a lot of programs installed and I've uninstalled and only installed a couple (literally) of my own programs I needed. I have had Geek Squad already run test and clean it up. I do a disk clean up daily, it multiple times a day. I've defragmented and optimized as well. Just curious why the computer freezes or the internet takes about 45 seconds to 1 minute to load a page sometimes? As time goes on, its getting longer and longer timing before the page will appear.

Mine freezes from time to time as well, hybrid hard drive is the culprit. Internet slowdown is due to the Intel WiFi driver. Update to the latest Intel driver and you'll notice a huge improvement. You can get it from here:

  • Touch Screen Button Issue

I have a kiosk using a touch screen monitor running a Projector.  The basic screen on the projector is an index screen with 18 transparent buttons overlaying text on an underlying graphic.  The underlaying graphic is the bottom layer. A full screen (stage) transparent button is the next layer, and the top layer has the 19 transparent buttons.  The full screen button is looking for a "right-click" (simulated by a motion detector).  Upon sensing a "right-click", an attract loop is played as a MIAW.  The top layer buttons are "mouseUp" and will close the attract loop and play a specific MIAW.
My problem:  When a top layer button is touched, the mouse pointer stays over the button just pressed thereby preventing a detection of a 'right-click".  I need it to 'jump' out of the defined button area so it sits on top of the full screen button, waiting for a "right-click".  Is there a method of moving the pointer to a predefined location or coordinates on the stage on the 'mouseUp' of the top layer button?
Running on a MAC mini with OS 10.5.7
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Rockodyne

If I guess correctly, you placed the right click detection in a sprite script, attached to the backgroundsprite. Hence, it can only be detected if the mouse is over the background sprite.
Just place the detection in a moviescript (so NOT attached to the backgroundsprite), and it will be detected, no matter where your mouse is.
One more thing: if you use a touchscreen, the intuitive thing is to have an action on touching, not on releasing, so you should make your buttons react on an on mousedown instead. At the Science Center where I work, I always use this policy, as do most developers when working with a touchscreen. If you use it as an end-user, it's just that much more logical.

Try to connect an external monitor and check for the issue, also try to move the laptop lid back n forth.
Also try to update the graphic driver and check for the issue.

Thank you for you fast response..
    Here's what i did..
1..  powered on / off the device multiple times without any luck
2.. plugged my externeal monitor to the hdmi port... external monitor worked perfectly so i followed your advice...
however the drivers i had installed were newer than the ones provided by the lenovo download site.. but i still
"downgraded" the drivers to the ones you provided in your link.. rebooted. no luck ..  updated them to the newes
ones found on windows update... rebooted.. no luck ..  at this point i was about to give up..
3.. opened up the laptop and unplugged/ plugged the screen connector and turning on the laptop.. no luck..
4.. unplugged / plugged the bios battery on the mother board.. no luck
5.. unplugged / plugged the laptop battery connector and the bios battery ... no luck
6.. unplugged the hard drive and booting up the laptop without it... no luck so i plugged it back in
7.. remove the memory stick and booting up the laptop without it .. screen wouldnt even light up (power button shows it was on.. and the keyboard light went on and off like it does when it boots up.. -- something for a change!!
8.. reinstalled the memory stick and booting up the laptop.. still the same thing.. white screen followed by red.. green.. blue.. no luck
9.. i didnt have a direct replacement of the PC3L memory stick but i did have a DDR3 PC3 memory stick in another laptop..  some google search and found that as long as theyre both DDR3 PC3 they should be compatible .. so .. i  replaced the memory stick.. booted up the laptop.. screen wouldnt even light up ..
10.. replaced the memory with the original stick.. before quiting i decided to give it another try before plugging in the hard drive...  and ...  IT WORKED..  however since the hard drive was unplugged it went to the no booting device and bios screen..
11... powered off the laptop... plugged in the hard drive...  (started praying) .. turned it on.. and it worked...
12... powered it off.. screwed the back cover on ..  powered it back on...  and its working fine so far.. played some video.. rebooted a couple times without any issues..
i do not know if there whas a "current state" flag or data saved on the ram or if it was caused by the UEFI system..
but i guess after replacing the memory stick it cleared up or something that when i replaced it back i booted up from scratch refreshing the devices or i have no idea.. but it works now ..
hope this helps someone in the future.. .. again thank you for your time!!

  • Lenovo A7 (A3500) / A8 (A5500) touch screen digitizer issues

Having bought an A8-50F (A5500) recently I was immediately confronted with what -as found at a later stage- appears to be a widespread issue on Lenovo's A3500 / A5500 tablets. The issue is quite easy to replicate and is clearly evident when scrolling through settings or a web browser page, or in reading any documet / pdf with the finger in direct and constant touch to the screen. It results in a scrolling flow that is jumpy and non-continuous as shown in the video below.
    https://vid.me/gfEj
What strikes me most is that I couldn't find any mention of the issue anywhere on the internet, seeing that it has obvious knock-on effects even on sketching a simple vertical line as shown above. So this happens only on the vertical axis, on almost all of the Lenovo A3500/A5500 devices I could get my hands on, even on the display / demo units found on major retail stores in the vicinity of where I live (South Europe). And I say almost all of the devices, since apparently A10s (A7500s) 10'' models DON'T exhibit said behavior, which is ALSO the case with most other branded tablets I managed to test, either these being LG, or Asus etc...
So my question would be if this is a known-issue for these devices, or something's gone horribly wrong with the digitizer panel of specific batches of these and need to be replaced by the manufacturer...In either case if you happen to be the owner of one such tablet, please take some time to perform these tests and report back.
    Thanks!

So seriously, there have already been more than 60 views to this thread...this is considered either 'normal' or no-one noticed?

  • Miix 10 Windows 8 Touch screen problem

I am using this tablet for last 5 months. There was no problem but I faced a problem with the upper part of the touch screen. About 1.5 cm lenth of upper part of screen is not working. The rest is ok. There is no problem with display but I cannot click on that part.
First I think that maybe I have changed some setting accidently but I couldn't find any related setting about defining the touch screen area.
Is there any solution or do I need to change the screen ?

    hi NetSurfer,
AFAIK, Windows 8 has an INF driver database that automatically installs the Touch Screen driver whenever a touch screen capable device is installed (it's like a usb device that's plug and play).
If you're having issues with the Touch Screen, try to:
    1. Calibrate the Touch Screen (see page 18 of the User's Guide)
    2. If you're getting touch screen insensitive issue, check this article.
    Hope this helps.

  • Searching For a Reliable Touch Screen Phone

The family is moving up to the share everything plan and we are shopping for 2 smart phones.  Outside of the Iphone, is there a particular model that has the fewest touch screen freeze issues?
    Jack

The iPhone is great choice and in regards to another quality device I would recommend the Droid Razr. The Droid Razr is the thinnest 4G LTE smartphone, has a scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass screen, and a water-repellent nanocoating to protect against water and everyday spills.
I have the Droid Razr as a personal phone and have never ran into freezing issues; overall it has been a great device. That is just my opinion though, you will want to make sure you pick a phone that matches your needs and usage, but the Droid Razr is a good place to start.

  • U430 Touch - Dead screen?

    Hello,
My U430's screen recently stopped working, and I would like some advice on what to do to fix it. The laptop works fine otherwise, only the monitor doesn't work.
Here's what I've tried so far and what I've found out:
Powering the laptop off and on again - no change
Connecting the laptop to another monitor via HDMI - the laptop is fully functional, and the computer does not recognize the dead screen, only the other monitor
I also noticed crackling sounds when I opened my laptop previously, and the hinge appears to be offset. This leads me to believe that the cable connecting the screen to the laptop got caught and/or cut by the hinge - especially with the rest of the laptop working properly. Is there a fix I can perform manually, or do I need to send the laptop in for service?
EDIT: This happened today (13 February) during normal use of the laptop (sitting on a desk) after 5-10 minutes of normal use. The screen went black without any warning, and this was the first indication of any issues with the screen - it had worked perfectly until this point.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Lenovo has concluded an investigation into reports of hinge mount failures on U430 Touch and U530 Touch laptops. If the laptop has not been dropped or otherwise damaged, and is under warranty, please contact Lenovo Service for support.
