UAC And Control Panel information

Publishing from InMarket to Intel's AppUp is definiately causing quite a few problems.  Attached are images of UAC when installing and uninstalling our app from AppUp - it incorrectly identifies the publisher.  When installed, it doesn't report a version in the control panel.  It also doesn't allow Adobe's browserapi SWF to launch the app - all of these things are creating a load of issues for us when it comes to our end users.
We just got off a call with Intel talking about the browserapi problem and another issue we're experiecing where a user has AIR 2.0 installed but our app requires 2.5 and AppUp doesn't prompt to upgrade so it fails and we get a bad rating from that user.  They say they don't even officially support AIR 2.5 in AppUp.  This is crazy

Damon,
can you, by any chance get the real icon files from the installed apps as they are used on the desktop and send them in an email to me.
This is hard to compare because one appears to be from a netbook running Windows (Vista?) then the other screen shot appears to be from an OSX installation or a desktop version.
Are you sure it is not the OS and the desktop shell that picks the icons and renders it?
The text on the top one is wrapped so the way shortcuts are pictured appears to have some space contraints.
Have you tried to change the way desktop icons are displayed?
Right-click the desktop, point to View, and then click Large Icons, Medium Icons, or Classic Icons. (Classic icons are the smallest size.)
When you have selected Classsic only the very small icon files are used
Let me know if that works

Are any of these yours ??
You may also try to restore your machine to a point before the trojan attack with Microsoft System restore.
Go to start > all programs > accessories > system tool > system restore.
If the trojan corrupted your system to the point where you can't fix it, then you may have to reload your OS using your HP recovery manager. Save all your personal info. before you do this, as it will be deleted.

  • Having both PC Settings and Control Panel is unnecessary redundancy.

    Hi!
I keep getting into the Windows 8 type of PC Settings. And honestly, the PC settings is really lacking highly in substance. It is also very confusing to have both PC settings and control panel. Why not only use the control panel? It is waaaaaaay way more
    polished than the PC settings.
I feel like this is a bad decision.

Agreed. It's completely redundant and should be consolidated to one view. Preferably the control panel view. Dont try and fix what isn't broken.

So are there any other ways to get there, or to change options there?

  • Notifications and control panel do not work on either the app screen or home screen

On my home screen and in apps, I can not swipe up or down to release the notifications or control panel. It has worked earlier today, however not any more.
I can, however, access them in the lock screen, andin settings, they are allows to open in apps. It should always allow me to access them in the home screen though, so I do not know what has happened.
What do I have to do to access the control panel in the home screen, and why is it like this?

Do you have a screen protector or case that would interfere with swiping?
If so remove them as a test.

  • What is the differences between PC Settings and Control Panel in Windows 8 and later

    Background:
I made a windows driver. I need to let the settings of it can be searched in 2 places:
1.Search box of the Control Panel page
                   2.Search box[Settings] when press the [Win] + W Keys.
Now the 1st place has been supported, but did not find out the method for 2nd place.
About Windows Search I just find out the search guide for file systems, does anyone know how to support the 2nd Search box[Settings].

What region are you in? I heard that there are no separate student and education versions anymore.
If it actually says "Education edition" somewhere then I'm guessing 1 of 2 things:
    1. "Education Edition" is just another name or title for "Student + Teacher Edition"
    or
    2. The "Education Edition" is the volume licence equivalent of the Student + Teacher Edition (which is a single licence for personal use on one computer only).
Don't take my word for it though. I'm new to all of this (looking to buy my first Adobe software products)
I'm in Australia and I can only buy Student + Teacher Edition (no Education Edition).
Did you receive a physical CD copy of the suite?

  • Palettes, toolbar, and control panel don't work in CS3?

I can't select pages from the "Pages Palette" or add or delete pages from the same palette. All of the palettes are having similar issues (i.e. Pages, Info, Layers, Links, Stroke, Swatches, Object Styles, Color, Effects, Gradient, Character Character Styles, Paragraph, Paragraph Styles, etc.) They are just unusable.  Most of the toolbar work except for the selection tool which I can only activate by pressing (V). The control panel seems to be having the same issue. I've tried reinstalling and repairing the install on the entire CS3 package. I've tried reinstalling and repairing the install on just InDesign. Photoshop CS3, Acrobat, and Illustrator work fine....not sure about Dreamweaver, Flash, and the others.I've downloaded and installed all available updates for CS3 from Adobe's site.
    Any thoughts?

  • My Starter has (1GB usable) despite 4GB acknowledged by BIOS and Control Panel

I have a 110-4250NR with Windows 7 Starter.  My new RAM is Crucial, meeting all the specs.   To me, the hardware and software both recognize the 4GB, but Windows will only use 1GB.  Am I missing something here?  In other machines, Windows would use the maximum amount per OS, even when excess capacity is installed.  HP support was not helpfull.
FRIW, I may upgrade to Premium, which addresses  the 4 GQ,
    Thanks

  • RUNAS another user: assistance with my batch file for control panel and explorer

Hello, for desktop support on end user or multi/generic user pcs it is nice to access common commands quickly from a batch file to run under your account. In xp both explorer and control panel apps launched without issues. The primary issue for explorer
is it appears to ignore the runas command (but the user has permissions to explorer so no error) while the control panel apps ignores run as well but does not have permissions so generates an error. The other commands all execute as the attempting admin's
    account.
who it is for: the user with the admin account to execute on the user's desktop whom is a nonadmin
**please note, the commands appear to work if you do have admin rights**, the logged in user does not  have admin rights to these utilities like in a common corporate environment.

    Issue#1:

You guys I appreciate the feedback but please read my entire post and help if related, this is getting a bit frustrating.
    a. I am not developing a powershell solution or "how do I launch them via command prompt" that is well known. The goal is to create an easy to use "run as helper" script for those that are not as savvy or do not have the commands memorized.
Even so many of your suggestions do not work because the user logged in does not have admin rights and the commands are blocked because of this restriction.
    b. This is for the batch file in question, NOT "how do I launch command prompt as an admin"
    c. Again, several options work, several do not (network connections and programs and features do not) must likely due to same limitations as explorer.exe or UAC
    d. this is not "how do I launch the utilities by command line" it is "how do I launch them as the admin WHEN the current user does not have admin rights". The entire script works on a pc if you have admin rights because its launching
it instead AS the current user, in that case the current user has admin rights therefore it doesnt reproduce the issue.
    e. running by control.exe using the app name or with cpl does not resolve the issue.
    f. I did not post that command prompt is having issues launching, I wrote a couple times that the options in my script do work such as command prompt. Even if you launch command prompt you cannot launch programs and features or network connections with your
admin account with or without an additional runas command.

  • Office 2013 64Bit on WIN 8.1 64bit MAIL control panel

Hey guys I found out that after installing Office 2013 home and business (64bit office only) on a windows 8.1 pro 64bit the mail options in the control panel will not open or come up to create new profiles. This seems to only happen with the 64bit version
of office 2013 on windows 8.1.
I think this only happens after already configuring a exchange account rebooting and then trying to open mail from the control panel. it doesn't seem to matter if you are a admin or not. For the time being those with the same issue as me just remove the
old profile from the registry or make changes to the profile via the registry
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Profile
again this is only an issue on the 64bit version of office 32bit works fine
    http://WrinkleFreeIT.com/

    Backup up your registry first.
This is impossible to fathom a new install of Windows 8.1 with Office 2013 and the control panel mail app will not open. Client believes you're a complete dill!
The problem we needed to solve was to create 2 exchange email accounts with profile options on outlook start up. We couldn't create the second account while outlook was running and control panel mail would not respond.
This is how it worked for me. Created the first email account by starting outlook and providing the account information during the initial setup of the exchange account.
But what about the second account. Have to start the mail from control panel.
    Navigate to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office15.0\Outlook
Select DefaultProfile and delete the name of the profile.
    Next navigate to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\
Create a Key and name it Client
Navigate to Client and create a key and name it Options
In Options add a new String Value and name it PickLogonProfile
Press Enter and set the value to 1
Start Outlook and you will be prompted to select a profile or create a new profile. Hooray!
If there are any corrupt profiles that present while selecting a profile in outlook, then navigate to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\outlook\Profiles and delete corrupted profiles.
    Good Luck.

  • Bootcamp Control Panel Gone (Windows 7 System Tray)

After I installed Windows 7 64-bit using bootcamp, I had a system tray icon for the Bootcamp Control Panel. It recently disappeared and I can't get it to appear back. Without the control panel running properly, it looks like the volume keys, backlit keyboard, etc don't work anymore in Windows.
I have tried the things I could find in these forums and through online searches but nothing has worked:
    1) Uninstall and then reinstall Bootcamp drivers and controll panel program using the OSX install DVD. I installed "Boot Camp Update for MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) (Windows 64 bit)"
    2) Using msconfig to confirm Bootcamp was in the start up program list (it was already in the list so I unchecked it, rebooted, then checked it again, an rebooted)
    3) Running Bootcamp.exe in Windows Vista compatibility mode
    4) Checking my registry for the entry being there correctly (it was)
    5) Customising the "notification area icons" to make bootcamp have the "Show icon and notifications" behavior.
None of these things worked. For additional information, I see that Bootcamp.exe is in the Windows task manager process list so it seems to be running.
How anyone found a solution to get the control panel system tray working again?
    Thank you!

    Hi Flying High,
Thanks for the response. The little gray square for the Boot Camp Manager has shown up in the notification area before (accessible through the little arrow on the right side of the screen), but the problem is that it doesn't show up anymore.
I just tried uninstalling Boot Camp and all the drivers, and then reinstalling it again from the DVD and using the "Boot Camp Update for MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010 (Windows 64 bit)"...
The little gray square for the Boot Camp Manager showed up after the first reboot and the function keys worked (like volume control), but when I rebooted again, the notification manager didn't show up and none of the function keys work anymore. So back to square one.
Has anyone had this problem with the Boot Camp Manager showing up in the notification ares only after the initial installation but not after reboots?
    Thank you!

  • Ios7 Update Problems on iPad 3 - My iPad is not going to black screen after not being touched.  Also, am I crazy; I can't find timing adjustment to go to black.  Finally, iPad slow to switch between some catgagories in control panel

O.K.  I found 3 issues on my iPad 3 after ios update:
    1.  iPad does not go to black after non-use
    2.  iPad is slow to switch between some catagories in control panel
    3.  Speaking of control panel; have I lost my mind?  I can't find time adjustment responsible for iPad going to black.

Outside of the contact number for that you've already used I don't know another way of direct contact. Here are some things that they may or may not of had you try that might help you. If you will go to the settings app and pick general on the right-hand side you will see accessibility. Within that you can adjust a text size make the text bowl you can also increase the contrast. You can also adjust the brightness and control panel.
As for Siri again in the settings app under general you should see Siri on the right-hand side with the switch to turn it on. If that is turned on and you're still having issues
    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • HP LaserJet M1120n Multifunction Printer, control panel display

    Hi,
Yesterday here was an electrisity cut. After that all devices worked normally, except the printer. Control panel display of the printer was out of function and control panel buttons  didn't work.
I turned  the printer off and waited some time. After that I tried to restart the printer. I heard that the printer started, but the display didn't work though, even I waited couple of hours . How could I solve this problem and can you help me?
    BR Vesa

    Hi @Vesa57 ,
I see that the display isn't working on the printer since you had a power outage. I will certainly do my best to help you.
Can you still print to the printer?
Make sure there is no damage on the power cord and that it is connected directly to a wall outlet.
The printer shouldn't be exposed to any electric or magnetic field.
Try another power cord, you can use a monitor power cord to test it. Just to rule that out.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 30-60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Try another wall outlet in another room, on another breaker. Just to make sure that isn't causing the issue.
