UCS B-Series Management Interface

Can the management of the B-Series UCS be on pass to the uplink/server ports of the Fabric Interconnect and not on the Management Interface of the FI? Just like in the C-Series there is a choice in the CIMC where the management passes to the LAN ports (LOM)

Yes from the FI you have a connection from the mgmt0 port - this is for the FI management and blade like KVM etc (i.e. the OOB management).
Then on the FI you configure the uplink prots which are used to carry the network traffic from the blades.
On the C series if you configure the CIMC port to be in shared-LOM mode then yes all the management traffic and the data path will be via the same LOM ports. If you choose the dediacted port then you need to use the CIMC port on the C series for management and LOM for the data.

  • Is it possible to have 2500 series management interface out of band of APs?

I currently have 2500 series WLCs. Our wireless network is completely separate from our internal network, keeping the WLC from talking to any internal servers. The company would like to start using AD(LDAP authentication) for end users while still keeping the APs on a completely separate network. Since the 2500 series does not support a "service port", Is there any way to move the management port out-of-band with no access to APs and just use the other ports for AP management?

I haven't had my morning coffee ... But let me give this a shot..
I am going to say no. The managment interface is needed for APs to join. If you isloate this interface no APs can join. Even if AP managers are used, the AP requries to touch the managment interface when booting up.

  • Cisco UCS Managment interface

    Hi Dear
Which is the function of the management interface of a Cisco UCS server? Only monitoring ?
    Best Regards

    Hi,
The management interface present in the Cisco UCS C-Series is a out-of-band interface that provides to you access to Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) where you can perform all management/monitoring tasks related the hardware set.
You can find more information about the CIMC in this link:

  • IPv6 en de Cisco UCS B - Series

Los Cisco UCS B - Series soporta ipv6?

    Hello Mario,
If your question is towards UCS management interfaces (FI and VIP interfaces) supporting IPv6 addresses - the answer is NO, UCS currently does not supports IPv6.
This is on the roadmap but nothing commited as of now.

  • UCS C Series hardware monitoring

Does anybody know how we could monitor the UCS C Series hardware (power supply, Hard disk, Memory ect...) within SolarWinds. We usually monitor servers via SNMP. It looks like there is the CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-EQUIPMENT-MIB that is supported on UCS manager 1.4 and above. When I to poll the box for those MIB's I get the OID is not supported. The UCS C Series server is on 1.3(2j) for the firmware version. Do we need to upgrade to 1.4 to get the equipment monitoring to work or is there another way? I notice a lot of users are monitoring B Series in Solarwinds but I haven't really seen anything on C Series.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Yes, CIMC 1.4 has additional SNMP functionality.

    Hi Jackson,
Yes its is possible.    Connect the storage array to the fabric interconnects using two 10GB links per storage processor.  Connect each SP to both fabric interconnects and configure the ports on the fabric interconnect as “Appliance” ports from UCSM

  • Cannot crate ap-manager interface

Hello everybody hope you are doing great!
Yesterday I was in one of our client premises configuring a WLC 5508 with software 7.2, went through the initial configuration wizard with no problem whatsoever, my issue began when trying to configure a ap-manager interface.
In many WLC configuration guides cisco states that for 5508 it is not required to configure an ap-manager interface because the management will suffice, but then they put a side note recommending it's configuration for best practices and better performance. OK so I saw that in an earlier version document and now they do not make the recommendation but the still use the word required and for me that's still is not a limitation.
Well anyways, I can't create the ap manager interface because when I put the VLAN ID it says the it is being used by another interface. Any help?
    Thank you in advance

For 5500 series controllers, you are not required to configure an AP-manager interface,
the management interface acts like an AP-manager interface by default.
If desired, you can disable the management interface as an AP-manager
interface and create another dynamic interface as an AP manager.
Make sure that you have disable the option of ap manager on the management interface before creating the new AP manager interface and on the 5508 WLC the AP-manager interface can not be on the same VLAN as the managment interface like on the old WLCs.

  • ACL blocking traffic towards the management interface on WLC 5508

    Hello All,
I need to apply an ACL in WLC 5508 such that it would allow https traffic on management interface only from selected clients.
For same, I have created an ACL permitting only the intended users while blocking the rest. Have applied the same on the management interface.
However still the access from all devices to management interface is not blocked. The ACL hit count too is not incremented.
I am on WLC code 8.0.110.0.
Has anyone else faced similar issue while applying ACL against management interface.
    Highly appreciate the inputs.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Adnan

    Hi Adnan,
you have to apply this ACL as a CPU ACL. Then it will work.

  • Can RedHat 5.4 fence with IPMI port on UCS B-series blade ?

    Hi to all,
Is it possible for a RedHat 5.4 installed on a UCS blade to fence with a IPMI (BMC) port of another blade ?
We created and applied a IPMI profile to the target (controlled) blade. We also created and activated a Serial over Lan policy on that blade.
Linux guys say they still can't reach ports 623 (maybe Serial over Lan) and 664 (I don't know this port). We have already cheched firewalls, no drops or blocking rules.
Has anyone succeeded configuring fencing on UCS blades ? And if so, could you explain how ?
    Many thanks, best regards
    Daniele

At least we succeeded without using too much effort. IPMI inside UCS B series blade is itself able to be managed by RedHat 5.4, it's only a matter to configure it properly on RedHat.
No need to use Serial Over Lan policy, we have disabled it.
So this problem is solved, I can answer "yes" to my topic question.
    Thank you anyway, goodbye

  • UCS C series server whether accessible from Linux prompt

    Hi UCS Team,
I have UCS c series server.
I am able to check the Fan, power, cooling and equipment and hardware status using the CIMC.
In CIMC I configured the SNMP and check it using MG soft Mib browser tool.
The CIMC query the BIOS for getting the information.
Similarly is there any process to get the BIOS information from the Linux.
Correct me If I am wrong anywhere.
My requirement is to query the UCS C server BIOS information using Linux-SNMP without CIMC.(direct access of BIOS from Linux)
Can I install a Linux supported SNMP client and supported MIBS to query the BIOS level information of UCS using SNMP MG soft Mib browser?

    Hi Keny,
I tried to powercycle both servers (c260M2 and C460M2) but still no discovered server and also no logg.
    I checked
Rack Server Discovery Policy == immediate
Rack management Connecton Policy == Auto Achnowledged
    Chassis/Fex Doscovery Policy == 2 Link and Port-Channel (As I installed 2232PP I moved to Port Channel)
I am running UCSM Version 2.1(1e)
    FI 6248 Version 5.0(3)N2(2.11e)
2232PP run on same as FI
I also have a connected 5108 with IOM 2104 running on 2.1(1e) Version.
CIMC Version of C260M2 and C460M2 will be checked tomorrow when my kolleague is in the datacenter.
Server Connection is not really the same like in http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c-series_integration/ucsm2.1/b_UCSM2-1_C-Integration_chapter_011.html
Because I still have no VIC Card but the connections are the same.

  • UCS C-Series Standalone P81E firmware

    Hello everyone!
I need to upgrade firmware of p81e on a standalone c200 m2 server.
The latest firmware I can find is 2.1(1a)
However there is more recent versions in bundles for c-series managed by USC manager (like this: ucs-k9-bundle-c-series.2.2.2c.C.bin).
How can I get single firmware file from these bundles for my standalone server?

    thank you Kenny!
    I've already installed this firmware.
however the firmware version of P81E in this bundle is 2.1(1a)
according to vmware HCL it has to be at least 2.1(2a) for ESXi 5.5 U2
    http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=io&productid=19981&vcl=true
if it is true, then c200 m2 standalone is not compatible with newest versions of vsphere, with is unlikely as for me.

  • UCS E-Series

    Hi
I am testing a isr  router with a ucs blade installed but seem to run into some issues.  I have the router directly connected to my laptop and are follow the configuration instructions in the configuration guide.  I get the following symptoms in any of the configuration / connectivity scenarios….  connecting to one of the router port and mapping that to the ucs, connecting to port g2 on the ucs or connecting directly to the management port.  I do configure the unit with the appropriate configs for each of the connection types as per the guide.
Problem 1 – although I am able to ping both the router and the cimc IP I cannot web to the cimc.
Problem 2 – if I try to install esxi (same as I run on our B and C series servers) it gets to about 75% and then halts looking for a network card.
I am obviously missing something here… any assistance will be appreciated

  • Configuring management interface in transparent firewall

    Hi there,
I know I have been asking basic questions. But I have 5520 with VPN plus license.
This firewall is in transparent mode now. How do I configure the management IP on this( I mean is there a dedicated management interface or what)
    Regards,
    Yad Singh

    Hi,
Consider ASA in transparent mode just like a Layer 2 Switch , where you would have to define an SVI or IP address for management.
In the Case of ASA device , on ASA 8.2 and before , you can only configure one single IP address for management.
On the ASA 8.4 and above , we have something know as Bridge groups which are configured for the management IP address.
