UCS C210 integration for UPS remote power down

I need to configure my UCS servers (not sure if its via CIMC or VMWare) so that the APC UPS can tell the server to shut down the hosts and power the server down before the UPS dies during a power hit.  Not looking for details but a pointer to some documentation as google is not working its magic this morning.  Thanks-

Sounds like what you're looking for is PowerChute.  It's an agent provided by APC that will talk to the host (vmware) and tell it to gracefully shutdown in the event of a power loss (before the battery depletes).  Search for PCNS (Powerchute network shutdown).

I uploaded the new 6.0.01 software 2 weeks ago and my phone flipped out so I took it into Apple store and they gave me a new SIM card and the ATT rep told me to power down my phone every week or so.  So I powered the phone down last night and since I turned it on this morning it is stuck on "searching" for network.  I have WIFI in the hoouse so I have email use but no phone or texting.  How do I get my phone back on track and connected to the Netwrok?
    Thanks so much!

v 3.6.13 - what has become of 'Restore previous session'? I've lost track of many topics in tags I had open when I had to shut down in advance of a power down by the electricity co. for day-long maintenence work in my area. Being able to quickly close all tags, knowing one can recover them later is invaluable.

  • Cisco UCS C210 M1 server certified for Unified Communications

    Hello:
Our VAR is telling us that HP and Cisco are splitting up.  We're an HP shop today and the MCS 7800-H series routers were a perfect fit.  Our VAR is now telling us we have to go with the rebranded IBM systems.  BUT I would like to avoid the IBM servers.  And the Cisco servers look attractive.  But I've been unable to determine if the Cisco UCS C210 M1 server is certified for various Unified Communications applications (Communications Manager, Unity, Cisco Emergency Responder, ICM, CVP, etc.).
Has anyone heard of any Unified Communications deployments on UCS hardware?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Mr. Schroeder:
Thank you for the information.  Timing is everything.  We'll likely have to order our equipment in May of this year.  I'd love to start getting Cisco UCS hardware in.  Oh well... maybe next year!

My screen won't work, i have tried turning it off but i cant swipe the power down button because my screen doesnt work. I have only had my iphone 4s for one day and this has happened, someone please help me.

Did the trick!  Not sure what I did to cause the screen to go numb, but this worked perfectly!!!  I cleaned the screen and must have inadvertently selected something that locked the screen.  This perfect solution kept me from having to run to the Apple Store.  Many thanks.

  • Power Down needed for adding extra disk

I have a sun netra 240 which currently has one 72GB disk,
I am adding an extra 72GB disk, my question is do I need
to power down the server to insert the new disk or can I
insert it while power is on ????

You do not need to power the server off to insert the new disk, this can be done live. The only thing you might have to do is run devfsadm after inserting the disk.

  • Imac/Lion power down instead of sleep

My new iMac powers down after sleeping. 2 Hours of sleuthing with Applecare is unable to find the problem. There have been no power outages, the energy saver has no scheduled power cycling, we've reset the parameter RAM, and many other checks and tests.
It behaved most of yesterday after I removed the wireless keyboard from the room. But, in the middle of the night,
I found it powered off again.
This morning, it was powering down (instead of sleeping) again about half the time. I let it sleep by energy saver timeout, not the power button.
Then I switched to a different user (only used for remote sharing). All day today, sleep has worked with no power downs - about 10 hrs so far.
Have any of you experienced any misbehavior like this? How did you stop the power downs? Clues?
    Thanks, Tony

I havent' connected them because I suspect that the old monitor was causing the problem. I plug in the hard drives only as I need them but don't leave them on. It's only been four days now but I haven't had the powering off issue since I unplugged everything. I may buy a new second monitor as the one I was using was from  an old Mac Quicksilver Tower and needed a specialized adapter to work.I seem to remeber there is also a setting somewhere in prefernces that allows you to use the power button to put the iMac to sleep. I think i also uchecked that option in addition to unplugging everything.
    Good Luck!

  • What external drive will idle power down. TM and mini use.

Hello, can someone tell me what external drive will power down after x minutes.
I want two drives to do this.
One for my airport extreme as a time machine location and then another for my mac mini.
Can anyone recomend a few. I have tried two so far with no luck they all dont power down when idle.
    thanks

A virus is not something you need to lose much sleep over. See my Mac Malware Guide:
    http://www.thesafemac.com/mmg
As for the question, there's always a danger that something could happen to your backup, whether you leave it connected or not. You need to be sure to maintain multiple backups... Two completely separate backups, made with two different backup programs, is the bare minimum to ensure data integrity in my eyes.

  • Can one turn off the UPS utility power lost warning?

We have our machine in the bedroom. If the power dips at night, it wakes up to give us the news that we are running on UPS backup power. Since I have the machine set to shut down if the power gets too low, I'd rather not have it wake me up. The only thing I've been able to do is shut it down before we go to bed. Can that warning dialog be disabled?
    Best,
    David

It's not a question of sound, but of the 27" screen suddenly lighting up. I don't have a problem with it doing this for a shutdown. My issue is that the UPS issues its "on battery" message if there is the slightest momentary dip in the power, which happens fairly often around here. If someone can point me to the specification for the UPS messages, I may try to come up with an extension that filters them, so that the "on battery" message will be ignored if, say, a corresponding "on mains power" message comes within a minute or so.

  • Sudden Power Downs | Sudden Power Offs

We have just moved from one office to another office in the same small unit (rewired by professional A grade electricians).
We now have the following Mac Pro's suddenly switching off:
1/ Mac Pro QUAD 4 Core (3 months old, worked fine in old office) 10.5.2
2/ Mac Pro QUAD 8 Core (1 week old, worked fine in old office) 10.5.4
3/ Mac Pro DUAL 4 Core (1 year old, worked fine in old office) 10.5.3
Does anyone have ideas as to why this is?
Is it a system, OS X 10,.5.x issue?
    Is it a hardware issue?
All (but the 8 core as it's too new to consider) have been fine till the move.
Or is it the electric's and the power draw on the system?
Mind you, shouldn't all the Macs go and not just these ones (together or separately)?
We have 12 other Mac's (Pro/G5/iMac/Mini, 10.4.11, + perriferals) on the power ring too.
I have read about MacBook Pro power issues but cannot find anything about Mac Pro's on the Discussions...
    I think it's the wiring / electrics...am I correct?
    Thanks,

I have a Mac Pro 8 Core and I've also had trouble with 3 seemingly random power downs. I noticed that an external HD on the same outlet was off (it does not turn back on when power is restored like my other HDs), which lead me to believe it was an electrical problem. The power never went completely off as far as I can tell, as the clocks still read correct time.
Until I can figure out and fix what is actually causing the shutdowns, I decided to buy a cheap battery backup which could help keep my computer up if I am just overloading the electrical system.
I bought the APC Back-UPS ES 350 Battery Backup/Surge Protector at circuit city for $30
    http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/APC-Back-UPS-ES-350-Battery-Backup-Surge-Protecto r-BE350G/sem/rpsm/oid/217087/catOid/-13021/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do?linkid=j134 59594k1971&affiliateid=k1971&mid=sduidp0t878330
Granted with as many computers as you are running, my quick fix is not as fitting a solution.

  • UPS and shutting down servers

Not sure if this thread should be better posted at the OS X Server forum, but let's try it
Today I found the time to connect the UPS to our XServe via USB. It worked great, the UPS appears at ServerMonitor and also at the system preference panels energy settings.
However the UPS has only one USB port, but we have currently two XServes. My intention is to keep the servers running as long as possible till the UPS reaches 25 % left of its energy. Then safely shutting down the servers.
While it is easy to configure this on the server the UPS is connected, I find no setting for doing so at the other system. Basically the "master" XServe (that connects to the UPS) should shut down its "slaves" (the other XServe specifically).
I already dealt with a quite old system some time before (Cobalt RaQ) where it was able to set this up (via the MAC addresses if I'm not wrong).
I would look forward if someone can give me a glue how to realize this on the XServe ?

    >Okay, writing a script... I guess you don't have anything already written
    Nope, sorry.
    >The main problem would be that both servers can communicate with each other only by using their WAN IPs. So we would need to get some security (like authentication with a username and password) additionally.
If your servers have two NICs, there's nothing preventing you from creating a private network between the two using a simple ethernet cable between them. That way they can communicate privately.
    > When I connect the UPS with an USB hub and on that hub both XServes, could this work ?
No. USB doesn't support this kind of topology. There can only be one bus master. The other machine won't work.
    >The UPS also has a serial interface, just the XServe lacks of this "old technology"
On the contrary. The XServe has a 9-pin serial interface on the back. It's normally configured as a console port for out-of-band management but you can configure it as a standard serial port by disabling SerialTerminalSupport (in /System/Library/StartupItems). However, the issue is then how to read the serial port. I'm guessing the software that ships with the UPS is designed to use the USB port and you may be on your own there.
    >By the way, I should mention that the UPS is a Belkin "Universal UPS".
I don't think it makes a big difference. You'll have the same issues with any UPS vendor.
The only other option I can think of is a network-aware UPS. Some UPSes (such as those from APC) have a network option where you can query the UPS over the network. It would then be relatively simple to query the UPS via SNMP to gauge its runtime and shut down safely. I don't know if the Belkin has this option.

  • Power down issue on a K9N SLI-2F (601-7250-090)

I have a K9N-2F with the serial number 601-7250-090 Kxxxxblablabala
According to the sticky on the powerdown issue it should not be affected.
But since about a month it will power down when I download large files.
It always powers down the first 5-6 times when I switch the computer on.
Then it works, sometimes for hours, sometimes for minutes.
But it always shuts down when I download files from the internet or p2p.
If I disable the LAN-controllers the computer runs just fine, with no powerdowns even on startup.
Do I have this problem as well? I have the latest BIOS. Is there anything I could do or do I have to get MSI to replace it?
    Regardsfrom Sweden.

    I have a Amd Athlon64 6000+ (125W)
XION 630W PSU with 21A rails.
2gb Corsair Value Select 5300 DDR
I know the amps is a bit low but the PSU is not the problem... I have managed to narrow it down to the LAN controllers.
If I push my GF8800 grahics card to the limit nothing happens, so it couldn't be the PSU.
But if I start up IE or Firefox and dowload a file or enters a heavy webpage the computer shuts down.
Also it ALWAYS shuts down 5-6 times when I boot up the first time after having the computer turned off over night.'
Then it runs allright for 5 minutes up to a few hours.
If I disable the LAN controllers the computer never shuts down,
When I start up Azerus it shuts down after just a few minutes.
This problem started about a month ago.
It worked just fine for 4 months.
I tried giving the CPU more juice, but that didn't help.
The DDR runs at 1.90v bydefault.

  • Zen Vision:M 30GB won't power down; any ide

I've had a 30GB Zen Vision M for a couple of months now! Awesome player, went through the usual round of recognition problems, but it's been working fine of late. My problem is, it won't power down now. When I try to power down, the unit says it's powering down, the dispaly goes black except for the battery icon. And it stops there. The blue backlight on the menu buttons stays on, the battery icon stays on, and eventually it turns off after 5 minutes because of being idle. Not a terrible problem I know, but a real niusance. I am running the most current firmware (have been for a while). I've tried resetting and clean-up. No change. I'm afraid of trying to reinstall the firmware, in case I have the same problem that many others are having, and go from a good player with a power issue, to a player that does nothing. I can't see it being the power switch itself, since it powers up fine, and tries to power down. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. birder

  • Internal iMac hard drive keeps trying to power down without my consent

How do you stop an internal hard drive from shutting down when you didn't ask it to?
    Background:
I use Missing Sync for Palm to sync my Palm handheld with my iMac. My Palm has a SD card slot it in and the sync software came with a program that allows me to mount the
SD card as an external drive on my iMac. From there, I can add podcasts, music or whatever I want directly to the card. I have used this software since March with no problems.
Also, when you put my computer to sleep or shut it down, there is a click and then the internal hard drive shuts down.
Last night, I activated the program to mount the SD card to my iMac and instead of it mounting, the iMac's internal hard drive started trying to shut down.
I have used this program many, many times to mount the SD card to my iMac with absolutely no problem. It was weird this time because I kept hearing that clicking noise. The computer became extremely sluggish. To me, it appeared that the internal hard drive was trying to shut down. After about 4-5 clicks, it succeeded and the computer froze.
Since that time, shortly after you turn the iMac on, you hear that clicking noise trying to power down the hard drive. Sometimes, it just takes a few clicks and the hard drive shuts off. Sometimes the computer will boot all the way up, I can log in and launch a program before it shuts off and the computer freezes. While I can't check the drive with First Aid or Diskwarrior because it shuts off before I can scan it, I assume the data and the drive are ok because I have been able to successfully boot from it and log into my account but shortly after I log in, the hard drive shuts down and the computer is stuck.
Any ideas? Any help would be wonderful!

You are right. It is failing. I took my Mac into the Apple Store and talked with a genius. Although the hard drive would not do what it had at home (typical when you're trying to get something diagnosed) I shut it down so he could hear the noise I do.
Sure enough, he said the noise I heard was the drive read head hitting its start position. When a hard drive shuts down, the drive head moves out of the way since the "hard disk" is actually a thin floppy magnetic disc. The noise I kept hearing was indeed the drive trying to shut down.
Fortunately, I did make a clone of my internal drive to that external drive 6 months ago so I was (eventually) able to copy over all the important files, update the external clone and boot off of it.
Sure enough, tonight, I opened Disk Utility and it said in plain red letters that the drive had reported a hardware failure and should be replaced.
Since my iMac is Summer 2001, the Mac Genius said they no longer carry parts for it so he gave me the name of a local place that would be glad to fix it up. I called them and luck would have it that they were completely out of the internal drives used by my model iMac. So I have to check next week to see if they have received more in yet.
The good news is I can get a slightly larger interal hard drive since I was down to 10GB of a 60GB factory drive. So far, I hear I can go as high as 160GB but the RPM must be lower since my iMac has no fans.
Thanks for your help! As much as I didn't want to believe it, you hit the problem right on.
