Udev won't populate /dev [fixed ?]

I'm trying to write a udev rule so that my usb drive can have a symlink.  Here is my rule inside the file /etc/udev/rules.d/local.rules:
ACTION=="add",
bus=="usb",
SYSFS{prduct}=="Mini Drive",
KERNEL=="sd*1",
NAME="%k",
SYMLINK="mdrive"
I then restart udev by entering the /etc/start_udev command.  I unplug my usb drive and plug it in agani.  There is not device in /dev that shows mdrive.  I have my fstab properly updated.  dmesg shows that the kernel recognizes the drive, and assigns it to sda1.  I have tried my rule with scsi instead of usb, I've included the mode option in my rule, and still no luck.
Any input to get this working would be great.

The rule you posted had
SYSFS{prduct}
It should be
SYSFS{product}

  • IPad Air apps won't populate in iTunes

    I have a 32gb iPad Air. I'm trying to sync it to my MacBook Pro (late 2013, OS X Yosemite 10.10.2) - mainly because I want to rearrange my apps and app folders and it's easier to to in iTunes. The apps pane on the right side won't populate. The wheel just spins - going on ten minutes now. I have 156 apps (15 gb). Everything else syncs just fine. Any suggestions on how to get them to load up in iTunes? Thanks.

    I would eject your iPad from iTunes. Click on the eject icon and wait until your iPad is gone from iTunes. Then quit iTunes and restart your computer. Also reset your iPad Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.
    Then start iTunes on the computer again and connect your iPad with the cable and try again.

  • WRT300N DHCP Client table won't populate in Vista

    My web access to WRT300N won't populate the DHCP client table.
    This is a completely clean install of my PC and my router. In fact, I wiped my entire PC and loaded a clean copy of Vista on the PC. Initially, all clients in the DHCP table were visible. However, after running Windows Update (after a new install, it updates about 47 things), the clients in the table are no longer visible.
    The router otherwise works fine. But something is blocking the DHCP table from populating.
    The firmware on the router is Firmware Version: v1.03.6. I'm using Vista. The problem occurs with both Firefox and Internet Explorer (most recent versions). My Java installation is the most recent version.
    In Internet Explorer, there is a little error icon at the bottom of the screen. Double clicking on it and opening the "Details" reveals this:
    I've searched the forums and Google and found nothing about this. Does anyone have any solutions?

    It's not IE...or Firefox for that matter. They both worked and showed the router table earlier. The only difference was downloading the Microsoft updates and the Lenovo updates for my notebook. I think it was something in one of those updates. I may have to sit here and figure out how to system restore back to the time before they were installed and reinstall them one by one. What a pain. I was trying to prevent that.
    Disabling antivirus protection was a good thought. I disabled Norton and all of its little subprograms, and it didn't make a difference.
    And as far as connecting a different computer...got one I can borrow? It's a good idea, but I don't have any extras lying around, so I can't work through the error that way.
    Hoping for any other suggestions before I wind the clock back on my computer's installation.

    Odd that Apple won't post publicly what "Jeff" from iTunes support says is official fix for this error - downloading and installing 8.1.1. Anybody had problems with 8.1.1? Transcript of my discussions with iTunes support is below for your reading pleasure:

    Hi Rich,
    Jeff, here from the iTunes Store. I understand that you are seeking "official" word from Apple. Now because the information given to me is directly from Apple, you can consider the resolution official. You can rest assured that the issue has been resolved with the release of iTunes 8.1.1.
    I hope this clarifies your concerns, Rich. Thank you very much for being part of the iTunes Store family, and I hope you have a great weekend.

    Jeff:
    Sorry. I guess I wasn't clear. I was asking for a link to this official news from Apple. If it is official, it seems like Apple should declare that publicly. My guess is that they probably have, but I can't find it.
    Since I already have installed, removed and reinstalled the prior version so many times, I just want to see something from Apple first. Thanks again for your help.

    Hi Rich,
    Jeff, here from the iTunes Store. I've just finished consulting with an iTunes Senior Specialist, and have confirmed that this issue has been resolved. You will be able to burn CD's like normal once you have upgraded to iTunes 8.1.1.
    I hope this clarifies your concerns, Rich. Please let me know if you require any further assistance with this issue, as I would be glad to help. Thanks for your understanding and have a wonderful day.

    I've looked at Apple's web site, and searched all over Google and Yahoo, but can't seem to find anything official from Apple to that effect. Could you please send me the link regarding your engineers releasing this official news? I would really appreciate that before attempting the download.

    Hi Rich,
    Jeff, here from the iTunes Store. Well I have great news for you today! Our engineers have released the official news that the issue you have been experiencing with CD burning has been resolved in iTunes 8.1.1. This being said, please install iTunes 8.1.1, which can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
    Furthermore, I have issued an additional five song credits to your "[email protected]" iTunes Store account, for the inconvenience and your tremendous amount of patience and understanding. You can use these to buy the individual songs of your choice from the iTunes Store.
    When you next sign in with this account, the song credits will appear by your account name (in the upper-right section of the iTunes Store). The next individual song you buy from the iTunes Store will use one of your song credits instead of your primary form of payment (until all credits have been used or have expired). Please note that song credits cannot be used for purchasing songs that are listed as "Album Only."
    If you don't see your credits, refresh your account information by signing out and back in to the iTunes Store. You can find both "Sign Out" and "Sign In" within the pull-down "Store" menu. If you don't see this menu, you should need only download the latest version of iTunes from our website for free:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    If you have any further questions or concerns, please let me know and I would be more than happy to address them for you. Thank you very much for being part of the iTunes Store family, Phil, and I hope you have a great day.

    Thanks, but I am going to wait until Apple tells me it has discovered a solution to this problem caused by the previous version of iTunes. As you say, you have engineers working very hard on this now, so I am hoping this will not be much longer.

    Hi Rich,
    Jeff, here from the iTunes Store. Wow, very sorry for the "Marlene" mixup, it's been a long day! In response to your question, our engineers have not released an official fix at this point. However, I don't like to see customer's unable to utilize the application to its full potential, and therefore I wanted to provide you with every last bit of information that may prove helpful.
    I am not promising that upgrading to 8.1.1 will work, however some customer's have been able to resolve this issue by doing so, and therefore I felt I should pass the information along to you.
    Once again, I apologize for the mixup Rich. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let me know and I would be more than happy to address them for you. Thank you very much for being part of the iTunes Store family, and I hope you have a great day.

    Marlene? Not sure what that is about. Before installing 8.1.1, let me ask: Is this Apple's official fix, or have some people just coincidentally had some luck? I'd like to hear something officially from Apple.

    Hi Rich,
    Jeff, here from the iTunes Store again! Now although this issue has not officially been resolved yet, I have some new information which may help. It appears that some customer's have been able to resolve this CD burning issue by downloading and installing the new release of iTunes 8.1.1. It can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
    I would like to ask that you try downloading this new software, and then responding to this email to let me know how you make out! You may also be automatically prompted to upgrade to iTunes 8.1.1 when you open the iTunes Application, which will lead you through the same process.
    I have retained your request to ensure that I receive your reply and can make sure this gets resolved for you, Marlene. Thank you very much for being part of the iTunes Store family, and I hope you have a great day.

    Jeff:
    Thanks, but as you might imagine, I am reluctant to download another version of iTunes when the last one led to these problems. My CD-DVD burner doesn't work properly since the last download. In fact, I had just imported some old 8mm videos of the family, and was going to burn those to a DVD for my father-in-law's birthday. Couldn't get it working, though. It's too bad, because I had been considering replacing my five year old PC with an iMac. However, I could get this kind of functionality with Microsoft.

    Dear Rich,
    Jeff, here from the iTunes Store. Please note that you still have full access to your purchased music, and can still transfer your purchases to an iPod if you have one. I am very sorry for the inconvenience, however Apple's engineers are working very hard towards a resolution for this issue.
    I cannot offer a refund for the purchases you have made this year, however I have taken the liberty of issuing five complimentary song credits to your iTunes Store account "[email protected]".
    When you next sign in with this account, the song credits will appear by your account name (in the upper-right section of the iTunes Store). Jeff:
    Since time line is so hazy on resolution, how about thiis:
    A refund for all my downloaded songs this year. After this is fixed, then Apple can charge my account again. This way, neither of us gets something for nothing.

    I suspect these posts will be deleted.

    And for good reason, the bugs they know about get fixed, while introducing new ones. Not on purpose, of course, it just happens.

    I hope this hasn't been discussed elsewhere, but I found a solution to a frequent problem I was having.

    PROBLEM: After completing a workout, attempting to upload it to the nikeplus.com website doesn't work at all. Checking Preferences>iPod>Nike + iPod does not show a "latest workout". Trying the "re-sync" tricks don't work.
    WHAT CAUSES THE PROBLEM: From what I have found, if you listen to a playlist that has an ampersand (&) in the playlist title, the workout won't be synced to the Nike Plus website.
    I had to go in and edit the XML file and remove the ampersand, move the xml file back to the "Latest Workout" folder and sync again.
    I noticed this because opening a good workout in Safari displayed all workout data while the "bad" xml file showed an error on line 12. Line 12 consisted of the playlist I played during my workout ("Shane & Shane"). Changing all instances of this to "Shane and Shane" solved the issue.
    I hope this helps, and I hope this is fixed!

  • Apple won't help me fix my ipod

    I've sent it in twice, they've sent it back to me twice saying there was no problem found. I don't know how they couldn't find a problem, my ipod is completely screwy. It doesn't turn off, the battery dies quickly, it skips, right now I can't even get my computer to recognize it when it did just a couple days ago, the whole thing is messed up and I have no idea why and Apple keeps sending it back to me like nothing is wrong
    I've tried every single suggestion on the apple website to fix it...nothing has worked. I feel like I wasted a lot of money on a broken product and am very disappointed...why won't apple help me? id send it in again but I'm 99% sure they'll send it back to me still broken

  • Bios updated and now K8N Neo won't boot? FIXED!

    Successfully restored from backup (after some hassles!), but thanks to everyone who helped.
    Having messed with the bios some more, I *think* I now know what the problem was.  And *blush*, I think it was my fault all along *blush*.
    I think I had one of the drives selected at the top in Hard Disk Boot sequence, instead of the SCSI - Raid Array.
    That would mean it was only reading half the MBR at boot time which would kindof explain the problems I was having.
    Still, we live and learn.  Thank God for backups!
    Cheers all
    Chippy
    I hope someone can please help me?
    I just upgraded my K8N Neo2 bios from 1.4b to Easybios 1.3c (or whatever its called).
    I took all the proper precautions and the bios update itself has worked just fine. My system is "working" OK.
    However, I can't boot. The system POSTs fine, detects the raid0 array just fine and then falls over with an MBR 1 error and an MBR 3 error.
    I booted from the XP install CD and loaded up recovery console, and I can log on to the array. The array and all data is fine.
    So it looks like its just the MBR record that is screwed. Is this because of some incompatibiliy between my old and new bios?
    And anyway, please does anyone know how to fix it? I suppose I can try to rebuild the MBR somehow, but I don't know how. And I really DO NOT want to risk losing all of the data on the array. Yes, I have a full back up, but I don't want to end up having to rely on it!
    Has anyone seen this problem before when doing a bios update? And any ideas how to fix it?
    (I guess I could flash back to 1.4b, but I really would like a later bios version to go with my new - as yet untested - Opty 146).
    Thanks

    Thanks for the tip, Doc.  But I have entered the bios settings from scratch.
    I can try it again, but why do you think that might work?  There really aren't two many sata and raid settings to make - all you have to do is enable the two channels (sata3 and sata3) and then enable them also in the raid menu.  That's it.  And the board "sees" the raid array just fine, its just it won't boot anymore.  I can read and write to the array no problem from Windows Recovery Console, so I conclude that the hardware is all working properly.  I think its an MBR incompatibility issue between the two bios versions... or maybe MBR corruption.
    I seem to remember some people having problems with this a year or so ago when upgrade this bios from 1.4 to 1.5.  Some people were having to do complete Windows reinstalls to fix it.  That was why I didn't update my bios sooner.
    But I asked around this time and it seemed those problems had been resolved.
    Seems I was mistaken!
    Any other thoughts / suggestions?
    Thanks

  • [Solved] udev won't trig my simple rule (jscal gamepad calibration)

    SUBSYSTEM=="input", ATTRS{idVendor}=="045e", ATTRS{idProduct}=="028e", ATTRS{serial}=="1E6674E", ACTION=="add", RUN+="jscal -s 8,1,0,-5000,4500,19423,19078,1,0,-5500,128,19781,16513,1,0,127,127,4227201,4227201,1,0,-4000,5500,18745,19781,1,0,-3000,3000,18113,18113,1,0,127,127,4227201,4227201,1,0,0,0,536854528,536854528,1,0,0,0,536854528,536854528 /dev/input/by-id/usb-©Microsoft_Corporation_Controller_1E6674E-joystick"
    It seems udev doesn't run the jscal command as my gamepad isn't calibrated when I plug in it.
    The attributes seem correct though:
    florian@flobox:~$ udevadm info --attribute-walk --name /dev/input/by-id/usb-©Microsoft_Corporation_Controller_1E6674E-joystick
    Udevadm info starts with the device specified by the devpath and then
    walks up the chain of parent devices. It prints for every device
    found, all possible attributes in the udev rules key format.
    A rule to match, can be composed by the attributes of the device
    and the attributes from one single parent device.

    I must be missing something basic. I've even tried and removed all the attributes, but it didn't help.
    What did I do wrong?

    You didn't follow the rules.
    udev(7) wrote: RUN{type}

  • Core Data PopUp won't populate...Please HELP!!!

    Hi all.
    Working through the Core Data Relationships Chapter 30 of Hillegrass' book.
    Can't get the Departments.xib, tableView Department column to populate the PopUp.
    Checked rechecked bindings, rebuilt the Xib five times. even Re-did the Relationships.
    Not sure add is calling..
    - (void)addEmployeesObject:(Employee *)value
    When add employee I can add first and last but Only: "No Value" available
    Any ANY hints or help would be greatly appreciated.. been on this chapter for two weeks!!!
    and it's freaking me batty!!!
    Help! thanks.
    Ian

    I'm actually on those forums a lot.
    and
    I downloaded the example files..
    and it actually generates an error.. after the second employee entry..
    HIToolbox: ignoring exception 'Unacceptable type of value for to-one relationship: property = "department"; desired type = Department; given type = Employee; value = <Employee: 0x2478d0> (entity: Employee; id: 0x246730 <x-coredata:///Employee/tE2856ABB-4F2A-4A98-BCB8-957B88DE47194> ; data: {
    department = nil;
    deptName = nil;
    employees = (
    firstName = jazz;
    lastName = fm;
    manager = nil;
    }).' that raised inside Carbon event dispatch
    etc....
    also noticed that every new entry generates a extra blank department entry kind of odd..
    also Rebuilt rebound this many times, in fact so many times, my pages are coming loose.
    but thanks, really do appreciate any help I can get..
    basically My tableview column doesn't popup with anything but "No Value"
    and won't let me select anything.. which is why I think
    - (void)addEmployeesObject:(Employee *)value
    isn't being triggered..
    well thanks..

  • ITunes Account Hacked; Won't Let Me Fix It

    Okay, so I was downloading a free app on my iphone when it tells me my password is invalid. I change it, and then all the sudden (this is on my iphone) a message pops up in Chinese characters.
    I get home, get on iTunes and see some noticeable changes on the main "Account Info" page:
    Apple ID: My ID
    Payment Info: NOT MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER
    Billing Address: My address.
    Country/Region: China (I'm from United States)
    Computer Authorisation: One computer, which is mine and only I touch it.
    Then under purchase history, it says I purchased something on October 21st. I figure it's just the free app, but when I click see all:
    There are $36.89 worth of purchases, but underneath the total is in red: "We were unable to authorize your payment card for this purchase. Please update your billing info."
    I'm guessing whoever hacked my account was in the process of purchasing things when I changed my password. I'm now trying to get everything back to normal, but when I try to change my country back to United States I hit the "change" button and the bar at the top of iTunes fills up as if it's making the change. When it fills, it just stays on the page and doesn't make the change. Basically, I can't change it back to United States, it just won't let me.
    Then, if I change my billing info back, it's gonna charge me the $36.89
    So... what am I supposed to do?

    You need to contact Apple Support. They should assist you in resolving this issue.
    My account was hacked last year. Apple Support helped me resolve the problem before someone made a purchase.
    For about 6 months afterwards, we only used iTunes Gift Cards to fund our account...we didn't put any payment information on file.

  • Console won't detect card - Fixed, at least for me

    Hey guys, I'm running a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Yesterday, I got a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro (not the professional one for musicians) Sound card. I installed it no problems and installed all the appropriate programs from the Creative website - Win 7 x64 drivers etc. It worked perfectly all day yesterday while I was playing on my 40 inch screen, while using the Tritton AXPro 5. headset. No problems yesterday. The problem is just a short while ago, I went to turn on the Creative Console Launcher, so I could play around with the settings. However, I get the following error message "The Audio Device supported by this application is not detected. This application will exit". I tried reinstalling the drivers and the program, then rebooted my computer. I'm still getting audio, connected by optical cable to the AXPro decoder box. Creative SB X-fi shows up in Device Manager, so why is it that Windows can detect and use the card, but the actual Creative programs can't? They were working fine just yesterday and between now and then, I haven't actually done anything - I haven't installed anything, beyond a definition update for Microsoft Security Essentials. The Creative Software Autoupdate program says it detects the sound card, driver version 2.7.8, but its the Console I want (ya know, the reason I bought the card, so I could get EAX, and CMSS-3D?)
    Oh and I can't switch PCI slots. I have two PCI-E x and a PCI-E x6, and my graphics card is in the way of the other x slot, so can't do anything there. It's just...the software worked perfectly yesterday, and now, for no reason whatsoever, it just failed.

    Well, I've got the Console Launcher working again. Spent three hours fixing it. What I did was, for everyone else with the same problem
    1.) Uninstall all the Creative Programs, in Control Panel/Add Remove Programs
    2.) In Control Panel/Device Manager, go to your Creative X-FI and DELETE the driver for it. Yes, delete it.
    3.) Restart your computer.
    4.) Go into your BIOS and disable your onboard sound card.
    5.) Let your computer reinstall automatically the drivers for your sound card. At one point for, there was a setup program running that just wouldn't show itself, so I ended it in Task Manager, no biggie.
    6.) Look up Daniel_K on this forum and download his setup pack.
    7.) Install it, restart your computer.
    8.) Let Creative Software Autoupdater work, let it update all your programs.
    9.) Restart again, and make sure in Control Panel/Sound, that you have selected the correct output for the sound card (Speakers for the analog connectors, or optical like me).

  • HT201210 My iPhone is now stuck in that Image of the iTunes Symbol and the charging cord because of this update error message... my ship goes out to sea tomorrow so I won't have this fixed for at least a week... I'm in the United States Navy.

    Please help me fix this if I can without having to go to Apple/ATT.

    Try the troubleshooting steps in the appropriate article here first:
    iPhone not recognized in iTunes for Mac
    iPhone not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    If you need to reinstall iTunes, if you're running Windows, uninstall iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall iTunes.  You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful.  Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.  If you're using a Mac, close iTunes, then download the installer (.dmg file) and reinstall it on top of your current copy.
