Udev17 breaking touchpad?

Hey all,
I've tried searching here but haven't been able to find what's going on here. After installing udev17, it looks like my synaptics touchpad has stopped working. The keyboard does work fine, and so does an external mouse. I downgraded to udev16 and that fixed my issues. I've tried a few fixes I searched for on the forums but nothing seemed to point directly to what I'm experiencing.

  • D-Bus upgrade breaks touchpad special features

    The latest upgrade of D-Bus (dbus-core-1.4.14-1  dbus-1.4.14-1) makes Xorg detect my synaptics touchpad as a standard mouse. That means that scrolling etc doesn't work anymore. Downgrading to 1.4.12-1 works as a workaround. Does anyone have a similar problem?

    works for me

  • Unable to see file system on touchpad over USB from Windows 7

    When I plug in my HP touchpad running 3.0.4 via USB to my PC running Windows 7 the device appears in device manager, but I don't see a new drive appear with a given drive letter under my computer.
    If I look at device manager in windows, I see two webos devices.  One is under disks.  The other is an unknown device with a question mark next to it.
    If I look at the disk from the disk management interface, the disk appears, but doesn't seem to have a drive letter nor a filesystem on it.
    If I plug the touchpad into an XP box, it wants to format the drive... which loses my apps.
    What did I break?  Any way of fixing this?
    Thanks!

    Before you disconnect the cord from the PC, are you correctly choosing "Eject", or the incorrect "Safely Remove Hardware" from the tool tray?
    I've heard the latter can cause confusion on a PC...

  • Yoga 3 Pro Touchpad "Momentum" or "Inertia"

    The Yoga 3 Pro appears to use a Synaptics touchpad driver. I have used a Dell at work and an HP at home both using Synaptics touchpads as well as my wife's Toshiba Satellite. The device drivers for these offered "Momentum" which, once you get used to, you can't live without. Momentum allows you to flick your finger a little in a direction and the mouse cursor will continue in that direction across the screen until you touch the touchpad again which "catches" or stops the cursor movement and you can resume moving it to its final destination. The Lenovo Yoga 3 "Synaptics" touchpad driver does not offer this option in its settings. Does anyone know of updated drivers that will provide this capability?
    I have looked a little deeper (into the registry) of the other computers and have found some settings that seem to enable it in the current driver (Synaptics 18.0.7.85) - MomentumMotion (setting to 1 enables it) as well as MomentumMotionFriction. No wonder it is disabled by default and no setting in the GUI to turn it on - it is very erratic and barely works (sometimes works a little if you make a very long pass across the touchpad and not too quickly before letting go). It is very unusable as it stands in this driver.
    If anyone has any information on how to enable this feature properly through a proper driver that works, please let me know. This one feature really makes or breaks using a touch pad all day without getting so "tired" in the hands, fingers, and wrist. Even though it is a touch screen, it is just awkward to poke at the screen when in laptop mode with such a nice and light laptop

    I will be doing a video review on my experience soon but here are some points I can tell you already -
    1) It is a great travelling companion, movies, videos, songs, small gaming is all perfect.
    2) Battery life is really nice, I watched 3.5 hour long Lord of the rings and still had about 60% left
    3) Pretty light and rotates 360 degrees, very comfortable to use in any and every mode.
    4) Does not get hot, remains cool.
    5) Exquisite looks especially the Bright orange color, which is my fav.
    6) Screen is beautiful and everything is crisp (I use it at 1080p)
    7) Some apps are very useful like ShareIt, transfer data from android, iphone etc in seconds over a wifi network.
    8) Performance is good for browsing as well.
    9) Boots in 3-5 seconds
    10) Keyoard is backlit and very nice but shallow, trackpad is an absolute delight.
    2 finger taps, 2 finger swipes, 3 finger swipes, 2 finger zoom, 2 finger scrolling of pages, everything is smooth and responsive.
    11) Sound quality is awesome as well, very loud and clear. Enough bass to provide enjoyable experience.
    What you should not expect -
    1) Heavy graphics intensive tasks.
    2) Lags a bit on some web pages scrolling (NOT noticeable)
    3) Some software which are useless and can be uninstalled.
    I typed this whole post on my Yoga 3 Pro and it is a great for me to type on this beauty.
    Going to watch a movie now.

  • How to deal with those pesky touchpad buttons

    The Pavilion series laptops are really well made in a lot of respects.  I have owned my DV5t for almost 4 years now and I've been quite happy with it (except for rather anemic battery life).  There is one thing that became a nasty problem for me, that being the left touchpad button.  It is the most commonly used touchpad button and unfortunately these buttons were not well designed.  They can easily break after a certain number of hits, whereby there's no longer any spring to it.  Pressing the button ends up getting double-taps like mad.  Also, the silver coating on them tends to wear away, looking rather unsightly over time. Once you start seeing the black plastic beneath, it won't be long before the button breaks.  It's really a shame, because these tactile feel buttons work well--they just don't last.  The newer HP laptops have those "lite touch" buttons which I do not like.  The tactile feel is so much better.  Unfortunately, it seems like most laptop makers are going with those solid state buttons to avoid another component that might go wrong.  It's a shame, because with just a little more effort they could have been designed to last a very long time.
    As of this writing, I have now gone through TWO of these touchpads.  How did I manage to get another two chances?  Well, they can be replaced but unfortunately they require you to disassemble more than half of the laptop.  You see, the touchpad is integrated into the palm bezel, and the palm bezel is a piece of plastic coated metal that runs all the way to the back of the laptop.  To get at it requires about an hour of taking the laptop apart.  It's not for the faint of heart either.  However, there is a service manual available that shows you what to do and I was able to follow it... thrice.  Yes, the first button wore out after just under 2 years.  The second one held up about as long.  I use the touchpad buttons frequently, so... well, needless to say, now that I've got the 3rd bezel in place, I am going to rely mostly on an external mouse.  And when I have to use the touchpad, I am going to use it very carefully, not exerting too much pressure (note that you can also tap the touchpad itself for a single click, something good to get into the habit of doing).  Additionally, I'm going to put a sheet of protector plastic on the left mouse button to help avoid wearing out the surface.
    So... one hour to disassemble it and a little more than an hour to reassemble it.  It looked daunting to do at first, but believe me if you're patient and can follow instructions it is definitely doable.  You don't need to be an HP tech to do it.
    As for the parts, I obtained them from eBay.  Apparently there are a lot of excellent condition used parts available from a variety of sources.  I got the bezel for just under $30 shipped.  Also, the speaker grille part is metal and tends to dent, so this time around I replaced it as well as the keyboard (the original was fine, but just a little touchy on one or two keys).  With all 3 of these parts replaced, my laptop feels like new all over again.  As for obtaining parts, you'll need to do your homework with the HP parts finder.  There are many variants of the Pavilion laptop models with many parts in common, so the part you need can vary by number.  The parts catalog can help you find them.
    Anyway, that's about it.  After having done this for the 3rd time, I figured there might be others out there with this problem on the brink of tossing out the laptop or selling it for parts on the cheap.  It's salvageable!

    Thank you for your information and support. I may have to replace my touch pad and keyboard and you have given me hope and confidence. Thank you again,

  • Touchpad headphone jack partially works

    Finally got a refurbished unit that has working wifi and now I find out that when headphones are used sound only comes out of the left channel. The diagnostic test for the headphones wont recognize that the headphones are being plugged in. Everything I have tried:
    1. Webos doctor 3.0.4
    2. 4 pairs of headphones. All confirmed working on other sources
    3. Wiggling headphones in the headset jack/ blowing out the headset jack.
    4. Audio works out of both speakers without headphones connected. Audio works fine with a bluetooth headset also.
    5. Contacting webos support but got disconnected and figured I would post here for any other ideas.
    6. Touchpad case is NOT interfearing with any of the headphones being plugged in.
    I am almost postive this is a hardware issue with the headset jack but thought I would post here first before contacting support again.
    I have to say I feel sorry for the people who paid full price for a touchpad. This is my fourth unit and looks like I will have to send this one back in too. HP's refurbished units are garbage. Maybe I am just unlucky............
    Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

    Got my replacment refurbished unit today and the headphone jack works but........  Camera is not working (did webos doctor, when you open camera app it makes the hp crash and restart).  O well I would never use the camera. With this being my 5th touchpad I guess I will just wait for something else to break to send it back! I am amazed to keep getting refurbished units with scratches on the gorilla glass. Seriously I do not understand how they can get scratched 'under normal use'. It sickens me because my original touchpad I bought brand new was in perfect condition. Always had it in the official touchpad case and a screen protector.

  • Hp touchpad screen is dark won't reboot

    I have an hp touchpad and the screen is off and won't activate I have tried the force reboot and I'm pretty sure that is operating because I have an hourly clock installed with chimes and I can hear the chimes but the screen remain dark

    There are several other threads already discussing this topic, but they all say the same things:
    --Check your charger.  Many of the USB cables supplied by HP were fragile, and break easily.  Try another micro-USB cable with a charger that supplies 2 amps (2,000mA).  If using an HP charger, check the prongs on the transformer - they are removable, and if twisted out of position no current will flow.
    --Try all the resets - simple (hold both the power and center button for 15 - 20 seconds until the HP logo appears).   Advanced (press and hold the power, center, and volume down together until logo appears.  May give the option to completely erase the unit!)
    --Use a TouchStone to charge the device if you suspect the female charging port on the TouchPad has been damaged.
    --As a last resort, try using the tpdebrick-v004 program.  This is a difficult, but doable re-flash of the device using a computer running Ubuntu, and a program from this link.

  • HP Touchpad will not restart

    As the title says, it will not restart and Im very frustrated. It worked all day, I had about a fourth of the battery left. I was looking online on the touchpad and it froze. I did a force restart and it shut down and now will not get past the loading screen with the HP logo. It would only turn back on to that part when plugged the charger in and it sat on that screen for almost 2 hours. Now the touchpad and the charger is hot and I have no idea what to do now. I have researched the whole time and can find no real answers. Please someone help asap. Thanks in advance

    Unfortunately, HP ended support for the entire line of webOS devices quite a while ago.

  • Why does one openbox key binding break others?

    For some reason, using one of my custom key bindings for openbox breaks some others.  Here's the whole rc.xml file: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/498056/ and the part where the key binding is set:
    <keybind key="XF86TouchpadToggle"><!-- Line 348 -->
    <action name="Execute">
    <startupnotify>
    <enabled>false</enabled>
    </startupnotify>
    <command>/home/user/tpad</command>
    </action>
    </keybind>
    /home/user/tpad:
    #!/bin/bash
    if [[ $1 == "on" ]]
    then echo "turning on touchpad"
    exec synclient touchpadoff=0
    elif [[ $1 == "off" ]]
    then echo "turning off touchpad"
    exec synclient touchpadoff=1
    else
    if (($(synclient | grep TouchpadOff | tail -c 2)==0))
    then echo "turning off touchpad"
    exec synclient touchpadoff=1
    else
    echo "turning on touchpad"
    exec synclient touchpadoff=0
    fi
    fi
    After I press Fn-F3 ("XF86TouchPadToggle"), the following key bindings (all set in rc.xml) are broken: XF86AudioLowerVolume, XF86Display, XF86TouchPadToggle (that's right, it breaks itself).  I've tested this several times.  These keys work when I've just started openbox, but as soon as I press XF86TouchPadToggle, they stop working.
    Does anyone have any idea why, and what can be done to fix it?
    Running the script with the same command as in rc.xml does -not- have the same effect.  Pressing the key with the quoted section from rc.xml commented out does -not- have the same effect.

    You have a misspelling, twice on the same line: commnad should be command.
    If that doesn't fix it, try using a full path:
    <!-- pcmanfm -->
    <keybind key="W-F">
    <action name="Execute">
    <command>/usr/bin/pcmanfm</command>
    </action>
    </keybind>

  • Tm2 touchpad is completely unusuable even when working perfectly due to drivers

    It seems there is a flaw in the touchpad drivers.  If you use two hands on the touch pad, one to move the mouse and another to click the buttons, it becomes unusable.
    This touchpad has physical click buttons that double as part of the touch area.  If you leave one finger physically resting on a button, it messes with another finger trying to move the mouse.  Worse yet, even if you change the way you use it so you use one finger to move the mouse and touch the buttons only when lifting this finger, it becomes impossible to highlight text.
    Since in order to highlight text, you have to keep the physical button pushed in while trying to move the mouse.  The pad basically sees this as a tap or something and breaks the dragging so the highlight area stops growing as you move the mouse.
    It would seem the drivers need to have a setting to either virtually shrink the area of the pad that is used for mouse movements so any area outside of this area is not used.  Or needs to be self aware of physical buttons and have a toggle to not activate the touch area above the buttons.
    I have tried to see if I could maybe set a scroll area or any other area over the area of the buttons to help alleiviate this problem, but none of these attempted tricks have worked.  Using one finger to move and another to touch the physical buttons just breaks everything and makes the pad unusuable.

    What makes it worse is that the user made linux touchpad drivers for synaptic touchpads does let you define the phyiscal touch area.  So in linux you could easily shrink the area so the touch area does not include the buttons.
    There is no technical reason why the windows driver cannot support this. Just add a tab to the menu for touch area and let people define it with a box just like the current driver allows you to set touch zones.  Then the feature is universal and it would work for any future variation of physical buttons and touchpad area.
    I personally am in awe of how they could make a touch pad where the physical buttons double as touch area and not notice that you need a way to exclude the buttons from the touch area if you actually want to use them.  Why did they make physical buttons that you cannot use?  Do they not test this stuff?

    When you copy 10-evdev.conf file into /etc/X11 you completly override previous system configuration. It's the reason copying synaptics configuration file into /etc/X11 fixes the issue
    Defining default system configuration in /etc/X11 with previous xorg was a mistake, now it's fixed.
    Wiki should be fixed. It's not a packaging bug, but a configuration bug.
    @lordheavy
    I agree with you that the new xf86-input-synaptics package is using the right configuration scheme, however it is breaking the functionality on every installed system. It was a packaging bug, which is now fixed, but it has to be handled manually by most users of previous versions. That's why I won't re-open the bug report FS#41589. Instead, I am asking here: shouldn't this change be notified to the users just like it has been done for most breaking changes on archlinux frontpage news?
    By the way, thanks for your great work.

  • Touchpad problems playing Anno 1404 in Windows 7

    Hello,
    I have a problem with my MacBook Pro Late 2013. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate without any problems using the Boot Camp Software and Instructions from Apple. I didn't expect this to work so seamless, but it did! BTW I installed the Boot Camp driver on the Windows 7 and the Touchpad works nice.
    I want to use this partition mainly for playing some older games like Anno 1404.
    But starting this game it has weird problems with the cursor position. For example if I want to click at a button in the menu I have to aim say 200 pixel right of the button to hover over it. It also happens if I use a USB connected external mouse.
    So the question is did anybody experience same problems may be in other games or applications? Is there any way to configure anything in that area? May be the boot camp drivers break it, but it may also be the game that is too old.
    Thanks in advance
    Benjamin

    I'm guessing it's just the old game and Windows 7. If you had XP it probably would be fine. (Which your MBP does not support)
    Hey just had a thought, I know W7 pro has XP emulated in it so I would assume W7Utimate does the same, have you right clicked on the game icon and selected "Run under XP"? (can't remember exactly how it goes)
    Apple only really supports the install of Windows so there's not a whole lot of information on the general workings of Windows.
    Don't forget, this is a 99.9% native Windows install so if you think it's a Windows problem you might try the WIndows forums on the Microsoft support site and see what they have to say. If the game company is still around see if they have any updates for it.
    Have you tried this link? I haven't been around for a while so the last time I looked at it this was way less then 300,000 views!!! You might want to just read a few of the first pages then skip to the last few pages and see if you think this would work for you.

  • Disable touchpad and ps/2 mouse simultanious work

    Hi everyone,
    I have dell Latitude c640 with Arch Voodoo, kernel26suspend2.
    How could I disable simultanious work of the touchpad and the ps/2 mouse. I want when  I plug the mouse, the touchpad to be disabled, and when I unplug it the touchpad to start working again.
    This was possible on my previous Del latitude l400 by default, again with arch, but with stock kernel26.
    Any ideas, how to do this?

    Hi darkhawk,
    Will a RMA require me to send it back and if I send it back with MSi not honor the warranty because of the sticker on the bottom?
    Can I get them to send me the part to replace instead?
    Thanks.
    Read the FAQ for notebooks.
    MSI uses the stickers to deter people from opening the notebook and messing with it. They do this to keep people from breaking their own notebooks. If you obviously did not cause the problem (such as this case it seems....), then there is no reason to worry about them not honoring the warranty.
    You will most likely have to ship the entire notebook to them.
    I'm not sure if they will ship you the part. Your best bet is to just contact them.

  • Uploaded 1.2, now Ipod is frozen and touchpad won't work...

    OK! So, my ipod was working fine this morning, perfectly! Now, after i donwloaded the new 1.2, it seems to have frozen, or something. I tried to reset it, and it resets fine, then brings me back to the start up menu but the touchpad doesn't work. I can't scroll, i can't select. I tried to restore it, and I have the same problem. When i connect it to Itunes, the computer recongnizes it, but then it freezes on the do not disconnnect sign. I don't know what is wrong, and I am getting kinda ****** off. Please if anyone can tell me what is wrong I would really appreciate it. I just can't believe that the touchpad would just break like that. Any advice?

    Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
    Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
    If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

  • Elan touchpad not working in Windows 10

    I have an Aspire ES1-711-P14W and have build 10240 of Windows 10 and the Elantech touchpad does not function in 10, This is not a hardware issue because it functions fine in Windows 8.1. I have tried the drivers from acer, looked in the bios for anthing mouse related. It does not show up in the device manager, when I unplug my Logitech mouse the "Mouse and Other Pointing Devices" tab dissapeares. It looks like Windows 10 is not even loading a generic driver. When I unplug my external mouse the cursor dissapeares as well.

    I have a Aspire S7-392-9439 and I have the same problem after installing Windows 10. Type Mouse into the Start Menu and run the mouse control panel.  Go to ELAN Tab on Mouse Properties. The problems I see are that     1) the "Enable Device" is ghosted (whether or not any external devices are plugged in)     2) "Disable when external USB pointing device plug in" is checked, even after I uncheck it and Restart.  it sets this back to "checked" status no matter what. If I click on "Enable Device" it runs the driver software, however the two buttons don't work.  i.e. left button, right button.  You can move the pointer around just fine using the Touchpad as normal.  Also, multi-finger gestures don't work like two finger scrolling, etc.. Also when you click on Options to bring up the "Elan Smart Pad" options for the Touchpad.  You will notice that this button does nothing!!! I have noticed that after setting things up correctly and Restarting Windows 10, and logging in as normal, the touchpad will operate correctly for a few seconds.  I can move the pointer around and close Explorer windows that are open, for example.  However, as system tray icons continue to load in and other programs start up e.g. Sticky Notes and so on... the touchpad breaks down and you can't see any pointer or get anything done.  Something breaks it after it was working! The ELAN software is simply not finished off for Windows 10... it needs to be finished off ASAP as our computers are somewhat broken.
