Ufsdump and restore over a networks

hi im a beginner of unix i want to know how to dump a workstation root and home partition in the server in the network or different location using ufsdump command inorder to restore it in a defferent location using ufsrestore command..im using nfs and solaris 8.because this is my problem our workstation is working and the other workstation got broken and i want to dump a working workstation not physically connect the hard disk in the working workstation..i will dump it in my office.over a network
please help me..this is useful for me cause this is always happen when workstation have powerfailure or not shutdown properly..
thnks

Create two shares on the nfs server and share it out across the network.
On the workstation that you want to use as your ufs image, mount that share point on the workstation, say /restore_root and /restore_home
mount nfs_server:/share_dir /restore_root
mount nfs_server:/share_dir2 /restore_home
Issue the following command (the assumption is that root is on slice 0 and home is on slice 3)
ufsdump 0f - /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 | (cd /restore_root;ufsrestore xf -)
ufsdump 0f - /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s3 | (cd /restore_home;ufsrestore xf -)

  • Sharing Files between Mac and PC over a Network

    Greetings,
I have recently made the switch to the Mac, and I have been so pleased with it ever since! I am getting married soon and my wife-to-be has a Windows XP desktop machine. I have been reading up on the different options on sharing files, and I want to ask if someone with experience can confirm what I think I have discovered.
    1. A person on Windows can read and/or write to a Mac OS X formatted drive only if they run Macdrive.
    2. A person running Windows XP can read files stored on a shared folder on the Mac through network sharing without additional software. But can they write to the shared volume on the Mac??
Now, I know all about the Mac side of things. It can read NTFS, read/write to FAT/FAT32, connect to Windows computers...etc. I have actually done all these things already, and know how to use them. I just want to make sure that I have the right idea before I go into working in the other direction, from Windows to Mac.
Thank you for any help that you might offer.

    1. A person on Windows can read and/or write to a Mac OS X formatted drive only if they run Macdrive.
You don't need Macdrive for sharing files over the network, macdrive is only needed for a PC to read a Mac formatted Hard drive that is directly connected to a PC i.e Firewire Drive.
    2. A person running Windows XP can read files stored on a shared folder on the Mac through network sharing without additional software. But can they write to the shared volume on the Mac??
Yes you can write to a windows sharepoint on a mac this would be limited to their home folder unless you setup other permissions.
To setup windows sharepoints your best using a shareware utility called sharepoints

It does not matter what format hte pc drives are if your sharing over a network you only need to know about formatted drives if they are directly connected to the computer i.e firewire, or usb drives.

  • Has anybody built a BERTS generator and detector over a network?

I'm using LabView 7.0 and I was wondering if anybody had developed a BERT's generator and Detector using LabView 7.0. I will be using it over a TCP/IP network.

    Hello,
Im not exactly sure what your application is but here are the two paths I can see:
    1) Youd like to do BERT testing on a data set. This data set is transferred to the PC via TCP/IP. In this case I would suggest using the standard TCP/IP VIs that are included with Labview 7.0 to transfer the data. These VIs are located in the following location on the Function Palette: All Functions -> Communications -> TCP.
There are also examples for using the TCP/IP VIs at the following location in the NI Example Finder: Networking -> TCP & UDP
Once this data is collected you could perform BERT on the data set using the Modulation Toolkit:
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?lang=US&cid=12855
    2) Youd like to do BERT testing on the actual TCP/IP traff
ic thats going by on the Ethernet segment your PC is attached to. The TCP/IP data that is received by Labview and most other TCP/IP applications has already had data packets with errors in them removed and retransmitted by the networking card and/or the operating system, so the data you would see from Labview shouldnt have any errors in it. To get the raw data from the Ethernet segment would require low-level Windows API calls and/or access to the networking card driver itself.
Hope this helps! Let me know if there is anything I can help with or clarify.

  • Emailing and synching over GSM network (i.e. without wifi)

My new iPhone emails no problem with WiFi but does not seem to without the Wifi. Do I need to change the settings?
I also want to synch my contacts and calendar and iTunes (podcasts) the same way.... Is that the same issue or should I adjust somethings else for that?
    Thanks for the help!

Most likely you are using your home wi-fi, and your email account provider doesn't allow SMTP access when not on their network. Accounts like Gmail do. As a workaround, send email using AT&T's SMTP server - go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > tap the account > SMTP > tap the AT&T SMTP server under Other SMTP servers, and toggle it ON.
You cannot sync iTunes content 'over the air'. You can sync contacts/calendars 'over the air' with a MobileMe account or a Google Sync account, or via MS Exchange (corporate email).

  • E7-00 and SIP over Internal Network (WiFi)

Hey all, maybe someone here knows something more about it.
I want to use an Sip account in our internal Network via WiFi. Our Telephone-Central (Panasonic TDE-100) supports connections to it via Sip (internal SIP-Server).
I can connect with my User-Account and it says connected.
I can make calls into the internal Telephone-Network
    Now the Problem:
I cannot be called internal. The TDE is sending an INVITE to the E7 and the E7 declines it when a call is coming in.
I have also an external SIP Account with another Provider. That one works as it should.
Our Technical assistance for the TDE has no idea, neither the their technical guys from Panasonic.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I'm not sure whether an Apple TV can connect to a wifi hotspot, however even if it could you are going to experience extremely slow downloads and reach your devices data limits very quickly.
This is not a practical way to use an Apple TV.

  • How to share iPad Photos and iMac iPhoto via network?

I've recently added an iPad 2 to my Apple system.  Can anyone tell me how to access my iMac's iPhoto library (OSX 10.7.2) with the iPad 2's Photo's app (or other app) via my Apple Extreme home network?  I'm running iOS 5 on the iPad.
It's clearly possible (and I've done it) to share iPhoto libraries between computers running OSX and iPhoto over my network.  On my iMac, iPhoto Preferences>Sharing opens a window with clear options to enable this service:
However, I have yet to find the app on the iPad 2 which will perform the same function so I can link libraries between my desktop and my iPad.  Is there one, or a third party app for this?
    Thanks

In general the simplest way would be to store the document in iCloud, and use iCloud to access the document from both your iMac and iPad.
But your post above says you're running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.4).  Snow Leopard is now two years old.  I'm not sure it supports iCloud.

  • Fax over the network with HP LaserJet 400 ColorMFP M475dw

Hi there, I was trying to send fax over the network with  HP LaserJet 400 ColorMFP M475dw, I have connected the printer/scan/fax on a wired network, just have 3 computers on it, all of them  can scan or print. But I can't find any option to just FAX from Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat Reader, going to File ---> Print ---> and select M475dw "FAx", I installed the lasted version of the drivers downloaded from hp.com and there's no way to install this multifunction printer as a FAX.
So I can't see the FAX on Printers in the control panel of windows.
I have never got an error message from any computer during the installation process either.
Does anyone has an idea of what to do here?
    Thanks ahead.

Thanks for your quick answer, I really appreciate it. But unfortunately, it didn't resolve my problem
Actually any of the workstations after complete the installation (with the last version of drivers downloaded just now from hp.com) can't recognize the HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color MFP M475dw, as a fax. I can print and scan over the network, or connecting the printer with a usb cable. I just can't see the icon "HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color MFP M475dw FAX" in Control Panel ---> Devices and Printers.   I did a full installation when I were asked during the installation process... I did then I custom installation and neither of them seems to work to me
This is very strange, it never happened to me with any other models of all-in-on (printer/fax/scanner)

  • Filling iShuffle over a network connection - possible?

Hi, my wife and I have a Mac and a PC. My Music files are on my Mac and her music files are on her PC. She likes to listen to my music via a shared connection to my Mac (we set up sharing in iTunes on her pc in order to do this). What we are wondering is can she load up her iShuffle with shared songs from my music library on my Mac over the network via her PC? In other words, she not only wants to be able to plug her iShuffle into her PC and fill it up with songs from her own library (located on her PC) but also with songs from my library (located on my Mac) over a network connection. We don't want to have to transfer all of my Mac song files to her PC - that would seem like a waste of space and a bit redundant. So, is it possible to fill and iShuffle over a network connection?
    Thanks,

You may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

My apps store will not go online with verizon network, but on wifi it works. I am on an iphone 4, verizon.  I tried to do a complete, backup and restore on the phone 1 day before i noticed this problem,  The backup finished but the RESTORE would fail I had an error, could not access Apple server ( some server name I cant remember).
I have plenty of space available on the iphone,
    8gb free,
    ios version- 6.1.3 ( 10B329)
    carrier - Verizon 14.0
    Modem Firmware - 3.0.04
    Can someone help.
I tried doing my backup restore on the same computer as I once did a year ago. and THis time I cant do the restore on the iphone.
    computer osx is 10.5.8
    itunes version 10.
I do not wish to go to ios 7 at this time.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue continues, contact the carrier to troubleshoot the network connectivity issues.

  • My iphone 4S wont allow me to restore a bckup of icloud it has just rebooted the os and for over 24 hours i have been trying to fix it i use this phone for my job so i need help

My iphone 4S wont allow me to restore a bckup of icloud it has just rebooted the os and for over 24 hours i have been trying to fix it i use this phone for my job so i need help. when i try to restore it says "Your iphone could not be activated becuase the activation server is unavailable, If the problom presests goto apple.com/support"   It has done this for 27 hours now PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

    - Connect the iPod to the computer and see if iTunes sees it. If it sees it try to get the photos off the iPod.
    - Next let the battery fully drain. It will likely take days. After charging for at least an hour try again
    - Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My iPod touch won't connect to wifi. Password is correct. Already reset network settings and restored ipod to original settings. Already updated iTunes and upgraded iPod to iOS 6.

A message keeps popping up when I try to join my network that says, "unable to join the network."
I have already reset network settings and restored ipod to original settings.
I already updated iTunes and upgraded iPod to iOS 6.
The password is correct. I even made sure by checking my wifi account.
I have completely restarted my internet connection multiple times.
I have also restarted my ipod multiple times
My wifi was working on my iPod yesterday before I reset all settings.
I updated it yesterday to iOS 5. Still didn't work.
It wasn't updated to the new iOS 6 until today so I don't think it has anything to do with the upgrade.
My camera started to be glitchy, so I reset my Ipod like I was advised in another discussion.
My internet wasn't connected anymore. My password wasn't working either, but the wifi connection was still showing.
    Safari still wasn't working, though.
I did the sensible thing and I reset my network connection.
Now, the password isn't working and there's no wifi signal.
The camera is working well now, but the wifi is messed up. I didn't expect any of this to happen. The internet is all I use the iPod for. Now, the iPod is useless to me. Please help?

are other things still connecting to the wifi without a problem?
Have you tried resetting network settings, then unplugging modem and router from power for 40 seconds then plugging back in letting the lights stabilize and Then recconecting with the ipod>?
